I've been in a selling mood lately and I think I might have sold my bronco. Kind of sad to see it go but I wanted to get a crew cab 4x4 for awhile now.

I hit the mother load last weekend. Will take several days to even figure out what I bought.

Basically, as many tools as I could fit into a mini-van (no seats) for $200

Here is a SMALL sample

(every drawer and space of these cabs were STUFFED full of tools... I have since pulled em out)

Probably another 8 boxes and buckets full of sockets, wrenches, etc etc etc....

Wow, more details and pics please. Already loving the MBC roll a bench.

It was a government property sale... they are closing down the bases at Schweinfurt and Bamberg. The stuff left were things that weren't taken by other Army Units/installations. I also bought a Honda Van (the silver one in the pic) for $500 (it has 60K miles on it!)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd....551_880894981935024_8061690528720690573_o.jpg

What ever we didn't buy, was being sent off to NATO

Wow, did everyone sleep in that day or what?

Can't wait to see the details..

There were six of them... full of "stuff". Everything from auto body tools to 3/4 inch drive stuff. I could only get 1 of the MBCs in the van as I wanted that red snapper and the hazet boxes too.

And you are right, the stuff I couldn't get will probably end up being sold for scrap.

I have 3 buckets of 1/2 drive sockets alone. No "sets" per se' it was just stuff thrown in drawers and boxes. I have about 50 different line wrenches. One of the Hazet boxes was full of em. from snap on to Bonney, Granco to S-K. Lots and lots and lots of duplicate stuff. I got it Saturday, and have only skimmed the surface. I'll report more as I sort through it.

That is my "garage"... its really a Gi-normous barn. The house and barn were built in 1581. It looks cool, but a cobbled stone garage floor is the absolute worst thing to have. You drop a screw, nut, bolt... whatever and it takes days to find!

Rev: that picture of your old house and barn/garage are like **** to a guy that sold Real Estate for 30 years like I did. We call old growth lumber wood milled in the late 1800's and early 1900's and yours is amazing and over 400 years old.

i bet some of the car guys will like your BABY too.

thanks for posting and have fun with all your new tools. don't drop any screws because they are hell on tires. cheers

One sale today I hit it just as they were closing. I was hoping to get in the garage but had to settle for just the basement. I cannot figure out these Estate sale folks open from 10-4 I work 7:00- 3:30 and barely made it, 9 to 5'ers don't have a chance. I wonder who they think has all the money???

Found a bunch of vintage tools and garage odds and ends in a box. Had to be quick so I just said "I'll take it"

To start here is the "stuff"
012 (Large).jpg

013 (Large).jpg

017 (Large).jpg

And the tools including Walden Worchester,Craftsman BE,Snap On ,Williams,Electrolite,Blackhawk and more
024 (Large).jpg
026 (Large).jpg
036 (Large).jpg

And I mentioned the box above........
I failed to mention its a (hopefully ) vintage Craftsman 3 drawer box with lift out tray,folding/locking face, with key !!
039 (Large).jpg

here is a link to a Picasa Web Album with more pics.

Alinc, that is like the holy grail of Craftsman tool boxes; about 1942 or so. The three drawer version seems to be much rarer than the two drawer version and that one is in much better shape than my 2 drawer. It does have slides, right?

You have some neat old tools. A bunch are for old Fords. I see some model T tools as well as some for flathead V8s. You have a valve bar for the V8. There are slug type rear drum pullers and wheel cylinder clamps. There's a set of babbitt bearing scrapers, and king pin reamers.

Yes it has friction slides, no clips like Kennedy or Waterloo's.

So I guess being the holy grail I shouldn't have a problem making a few bucks on this one.I really don't want to get a sentimental attachment to it. :0

They were a vendor to a company I used to work for about 25 years ago. I visited the facility on many occassions. Cool equipment with one of their earliest machine on display in the lobby.
That's a shame... I hate to see US manufacturing shut down. According to their website they were founded in 1850

Alinc100, did you miss the Craftsman block grinder on the bench behind that tool box or was that pic taken at your place? What is the 3 drawer sitting on in those pics?

Great score and Revfan, I love those black/blue boxes

Went to the Western New York Gas and Steam Engine show and here's some of what I brought home:

Some prices:

$40 for the Snap On puller with 2 sets of jaws!

$1 Long Cornwell chisel

$3 Plane

About $2 or 3 on the Knockoff Proto extendable ratchet

I didn't do the tabulating yet but I didn't spend too crazy for it all.

Been a while, here's today's stuff.

IMG_8725.JPG

Five drawer Kennedy set me back $50, probably a bit high but I like it. Craftsman ratchet (metal quick release) and 7WR vise grips were $1/ea. All of the rest ran me $30. Left side is SK, all the stuff in the middle is Cornwell, the set of sockets along the bottom is a metric Blackhawk set (missing 8mm, I might go try and find it tomorrow), the wrench and socket above those are MAC, and the 1/4" spinner, socket, and 12" 1/2 extension are all Snap-On. A lot of the cornwell stuff has had an engraving ground off :(

Nope the CBG is mine in my shop. I wouldn't dream of leaving a clean one behind unless the price was outrageous.
The Craftsman is sitting on a homemade cart with a door. It needs some TLC but I'll bet is held that box for many years.

Saw an ad for a Snap-On box on the craigslist. Went by this evening, to check it out. It was a KRA4107 for which the owner was asking $600. I offered $450 and left. 5 minutes later, the owner called me and accepted my offer. Picked it up and just unloaded it. I guess now I'm part of the Snap-on club. Wonder how the box will feel knowing its going to be full of Craftsman tools??

The box will feel just fine about it. It will be flattered knowing that you spent your money on the wrapping paper instead of the present. :lol_hitti

BTW - That's a good looking box, nice grab.

So after I was complaining on this thread about never finding any snappy items like you guys do at garage sales. Got these at a sale where most of the tools where overpriced, and I saw these in a box of **** tools. I was almost afraid to ask how much they wanted for them. I plunked them down at the cashier and he said "how bout a buck?" I almost broke my arm getting a dollar out of my wallet :)

I picked up this beat up Craftsman top box off of Craigslist the other day. I'm thinking I'll restore it hammertone silver with red drawers to match the bottom cabinet I have..

I think the millions of HF freebie screwdrivers floating around that look like old Snap On have helped us greatly. Most non tool savvy people see that distinctive black handle shape and assume it is just a POS and price it cheap.

I got a small SO flathead today for a quarter because the handle was so caked with dirt that you could not see the name.

Been a while since I had the chance to stop at a garage sale, but I made an effort today. Only one in town had a few odds and ends, bought all for $7:

Stanley flat razor knife, 2 sockets (S-K Wayne and unmarked USA), flag holder, almost empty roll of solder, multi-tool belt pouch, large Allen driver dated 1918, 1" wide drill bit

jack plane made by Great Dane, called the Corsair. Plastic handles but it's in good shape, a little surface rust from storage, will wire wheel it and oil it up, and hope to put it to use this fall.

Those Kennedy boxes are extremely nice and well built!! I like them better then their toolboxes. You'll find it very useful.

Nice find.

My $80, 130 mile road trip to the Poconos yesterday:

Big mystery box of wrenches....

Contained a boatload of Bonney! I'm slowly collecting those Streamline wrenches, and as soon as I saw nearly a whole set posted on CL, I had to make the road trip!

2 SO's, some Mac, nearly a whole SK Wayne set, and some other goodies

My second long handled Flying V rat! 2 weeks ago was the flex head, and now this one! The rest is CMan too, almost all =V= with some V mixed in!

Some more CMan and some other goodies as well!

nice find for me today. NOS craftsman tap and die set. the foam has deteriorated over the years and is either stuck to the tools or missing. 35piece. its all accounted for expect one tap. $5
williams proto pro snap on and cman 1/2 extensions and screwdriver $15 bucks. id have liked to get it all for 10, but 1/2 inch long extensions arent cheap so i didnt haggle.
HF 44. looks to be brand new except scratches where it wasnt strapped down real tight and rubbed on trailer rail. dent in the backside from other goods being thrown on it. must have lived down a sandy or dirt road. there is sand all in the drawers. not sure how far he pulled it or where it came from. has keys.
$180.00

Ha, Ha  I was thinking the same thing about how many crappy knock off screwdrivers I have dug through before I finally found some good ones. Feels like it must be in the thousands:eyecrazy:

ive found some good wiha and sk screwdrivers like this too. the wiha are odd shaped or have different colors sometimes so people mistake them for china. ive got several red and also green and white sk for a quarter before.

5 planned stops and a TOO (with poor signage that had me running all over the town  ).

I only found 2 pieces in my travels this morning. $5 each.

A 7' digging/tamping bar
and a NIB top/bottom ramp kit.
