Picked up my auction winnings today. First stop on the way was a garage sale, got the 65 Ford shop manual for $1, the versa vise for $4, and the valve spring compressor for $3 (all in the upper right). Everything else in the pictures came from the auction, I'm out about $400 total.

MAC TL90 timing light, Bluepoint flaring set, 18" snap-on extension, Matco tap/die set, Snap-on screw extractor set, bluepoint harmonic balancer installer, and a whole slew of loose stuff including 1/4" Matco and Snap-On ratchets, a Snap-On palm ratchet, bunch of metric wrenches (MAC & Snap-on, flare, short, long, regular), bunch of sockets and extensions including wobble (Matco & Snap-On), and a set of 1/4" Matco swivel sockets.

Had a Thursday estate sale this morning with a shed and tools listed and it was pretty near by so we had to go check it out. It was an inside/outside sale but the outside started at 7 and the inside opened at 8. We got there about 6:40 and people were already buying things outside. I ran up to the tables and grabbed the ratchet first, then on to the shed out back to look around. In the shed, I saw the lil vise mounted on a window sill and instantly went for it. Next I grabbed the box of full box of screws, glass cutter, jigsaw blades, new cord end and peg board hooks. I kept looking around and even mentioned it felt like I was leaving something...We finally went to the register to see what the damage was, he hit me with $7.50 and I didn't even negotiate. :D Since it was still like an hour before the inside opened, we went home and had breakfast before going back by the estate sale and re-store.
Second trip we could not find anything inside that we wanted so back out to the shed I went. Glad I did, I got a bug light(not shown $5), the bag of hardware that includes 1000's of plastic shelf bracket things, large eye screws, a couple pin punches, bags of new nuts and washers, etc, the Jorgensen clamps and the heavy duty ratchet strap. The Bernzomatic rods were bought at the re-store for $1 per pack, I got one of each different pack not knowing if this was a deal or not. :dunno:

Here is the ratchet, anyone heard of Koto? The first "o" has a dash over it.
01618.jpg

I stood there in that shed with a feeling that something was calling me... I kept digging and looking under/over and behind everything in there and finally found it... Right next to the door on the floor under some ****, was this Chevy flag, it's double sided!!! :willy_nil

Here are some more pictures of my krater pliers. Don't know what they fit but they are about as long as a 7/16ths wrench. The jaw hole is slightly bigger than a pencil. Any thoughts on what they fit??

The hole in the jaws have no knurling or grooving so I am at a loss what they fit? I was thinking maybe a fuse? On the jaws it says 1601-G. Hope this helps?

Little score today, did not really need any of it but it is mine now. Estwing, and stanley calipers probably the best of the lot. Not often i get to pre-shop a tool sale. $24.00 total.

they look like heat coil pullers, for an old solder frame, in a telco central office.

here's a pic of a newer/different style, the little dark widget in the inset is the coil.

Some cool finds for me at estate sales this morning

My favorite is the Plomb body hammer $5. Original handle on it, but I think I'll have to replace it as it is pretty ragged and weakened near the head. Been looking for one of these for awhile.

Railroad anvil for $3

Long Snap On screwdriver for $.50

About 1" slab of steel for $3

A Yankee Bell System drill for only $1, but it's rough and missing all the bits. I've seen a lot of these recently. Probably should have left it. I think I have 4-5 now.

Some type of wire cutters/strippers for $.25

6" Crescent wrench for $1.

Auction Finds This week . . . .

There are so many threads now, dealing with "show us your new tools", "what is your best deal this year", "garage sale thread", "what did you do in your garage today", etc., that I am hesitant to even post because I don't know where to post.

Anyway . . . .

Today I picked up a few items I won in this week's local online "estate" auction.

First, there is this floor jack:

i-J8DjDjv-M.jpg

i-JBSRvSx-M.jpg

i-MLKKjfs-M.jpg

i-TZgmQLz-M.jpg

It is a Walker 4-ton long-body floor jack. Needs complete cleaning, rebuild of jack pump, etc. I got it for $13.

Next, is an OTC 10-ton porta-power:

i-PWFCNMv-M.jpg

It has a huge 2-1/2" x 10" stroke ram, and a large reservoir pump.
I'll go through it and replace seals, o-rings, etc. I paid $5 for it. The listing said "grease gun, as-is", so it was kinda mis-labeled, and nobody else bid on it.

Thirdly, was the item I really wanted:

i-BmjkhSs-M.jpg

i-Z58bCGS-M.jpg

i-GRGHL4m-M.jpg

i-G26VDss-M.jpg

i-JkRpx4q-M.jpg

For those who don't recognize this, it is an OTC air/hydraulic pump (10,000 psi), connected to a Gates hydraulic hose crimper.
I don't really have a use for the crimper, and it didn't come with any dies anyway, but that 10k psi foot-operated hydraulic pump is AWESOME! I cleaned it up, changed the air fitting and tested it, and it worked great! Oh, I paid $91 for the pump/crimper, expecting to have to buy a $100 seal/gasket kit for the pump, but won't have to now.

I swapped around a few things, and came up with this combination:
i-gngcPxK-M.jpg

10k psi pump, with 2-1/2" x 10" ram. I plan to use this setup to overhaul my hydraulic press.

By the end of the day, this is where I was, having torn down the ram and cleaned it up, and identified the two seals I'll need to replace to refresh it:

i-3RVRwbS-M.jpg

Anyone need a Gates hydraulic hose crimper with no dies?
It is really heavy, and will be costly to ship, but I will sell it cheap.

Any idea the vintage of that Walker jack? It's pretty cool.

Ever since I got my aluminum cheepie jack from Harbor Freight I haven't touched my old steel one, I've turned into a jack wuss!

Nine- what's on the other side of that ratchet? Is it a possible Japanese knockoff of a Williams?

Koto & Drop Forged. It looks just like a knockoff of a larger Williams ratchet I have except that this Koto has an oil hole on the end of the head. :headscrat

Awesome, thanks Nine. Looks like Japanese copy to me but I'll be honest I've never seen that one.

I've seen the rip-off Craftsman V-selector, the Proto copies, s-k type copies. That's a new one to me. Glad you posted it.

Almost forgot the Williams 12" adjustables slab. Paid dealer price but was part of a little package deal. I probably would've paid more anyway because I had to have it.

i cant find any info on it. i need to get out and unload it. brand new stahlwillie gearless ratchet for 5 bucks. ive always heard they were expensive tools, never really seen any in person until today.

passed on a plvmb 3/8 ratchet. he had 20 bucks on it and it was missing a screw for the mechanism and the lever spun in 360 degrees each way. it operated both directions, but for 20 bucks didnt think it was such a good deal for me.

Still a bit Slow, 7 planned stops, the best one was a TOO. The College FM was a complete bust, the couple of things I was interested in were priced in the silly money arena.

Stop one, $3 the TOO: A Finish nail starter, Utica and Danielson Adjustables, Wiss 10's, Short Black smith Tongs, Wood handle spintight

attachment.php

More of the same $3 buy: two 2" Clamps, Utica NN pliers, Wards Eclipse Combos, Williams DBE, an All metal BPH ; Didn't someone find this in a craftsman catalog?

attachment.php

Same Buy, A Pruning Saw, the Pat No was awarded in the mid fifties to the American Saw & Tool Company, the blade needs the rust taken off but is razor sharp. not sure it was ever used... The handle has a tapered pocket in it so it can be used as a pole saw capturing it with tow countersunk screws. The blade is adjustable (The patent + the grip handle) so you can give it a pistol grip...

attachment.php

Same Stop, for another $5 - Bell System Climbing spikes

attachment.php

And a planned stop just before the Col. FM had this Columbian 604-1/2 - 4/1/2" jaws, 49 lbs on my scale - $20!

Pick up a Columbian No. 505 off CL for $ 40. This makes four for me. Going to clean one up and give to my son.
Was telling the wife I'm going to look at a vice, her reply, trying to round off to a even dozen? Kidding I said that was how many block grinders I had, not vises.
Guess I shouldn't correct her and let her be in the dark on how many of anything I have.

Last week random garage sale stop provided this nice little lockable metal cabinet and it actually had the key. $3.
Lock Box-1.jpg
Lock Box-2.jpg

A second sale of last weekend netted this group of items for $20. A never used Craftsman Engine Analyzer. The user manual is still stuffed in the back. Also, a Craftsman remote start switch like new in the box and, an old hand held 12V light of some sort.

Did quite a bit better than I expected to today. It seemed like everyone went out of their way to have sales without tools. The main event, an annual flea market, never produced much in the past, but it was still the best prospect to start the day:

Empty Proto "Professional Tools" socket set box, 3 Petersen Vise Grips in a roll, Plomb 1/2" drive ratchet (seldom see Plomb around here, yet I've found 2 of these this summer :dunno:), SO scaffolding ratchet, 1/2" and 13mm MAC distributor wrenches, SK Crowfoot set, SK needlenose, a Craftsman 'Powr-Panl' (with what's left of its original box and instructions), Crown saw blade set, Diamond fencing pliers and vise grips.

The Powr Panl:

The Vise Grip Roll:

To be continued...

One more thing from the FM:

This will probably be donated to my dad's collection.

Second stop was a garage sale. $3 got me this beat-up Penncraft box:

Which held these complete 1/4" and 3/8" drive Penncraft sets, plus 2 Cman =v= sockets:

A tool and die maker's estate provided the last haul of the day. Little stuff mostly, but I did snag this:

Can any of the toolbox gurus here ID this box?
