Picked up a couple more metal cabinets last night from a CL ad. $20 for both. Re-painted these will make great additions to my garage refurb.

That paddle bit on a wand looks like a robot weapon!!

The Heritage thing is part of a spindle or something, they have been posted here before and someone will be along shortly to tell you what exactly it does.

Simpson 260M multimeter. Nice one. Open it up and check that the batteries aren't growing whiskers.

9V was growing whisker. :( but i pulled them out and got to get a 9V battery to try it out. I've been on the hunt for one and I'm hoping this one works but not sure yet.

Mom came in to town today for a visit so I took her to an estate sale and then we hit the goodwill/thrift stores after lunch. The estate sale was run by one of my favorite sellers, prices were good to great but I have most of what was there and didn't need the rest(except what's shown below). We got to the sale late, just before lunch, I may have missed out on some nice things but spending time with mom was top priority, everyone is getting old....Anyway, nothing from the thrifts but I did get away with these tools for $10 at the estate sale.

Couple of Craftsman, couple of Snap On slider bars, both with 9/16" Snap On sockets, Williams wrench, a 2/3 jaw puller(no name) and some mini wood carving tools.

Interesting jaw puller with two yokes rather than a 2 & 3 arm on the same yoke.

I wasted a lot of time this morning going to the wrong estate sale. It turned out to be a yard/moving sale with the usual bargain bin handtools. So I drove 30 miles in the other direction to the other sale. I didn't want to get in line for a number at 6am, so I thought that I'd pass on this one. When I finally got there, I passed a wheelbarrow full of handtools rolling out of the driveway. Little did I know, that load was the last of the good stuff.

The basement was a hoarder's stash. Everytime I moved a pile, I was expecting something furry to lunge at me. There was very little left and most wasn't worth grabbing. Here's the $5 haul.

Some 60w lightbulbs
a spool of heavy thread
electric tape
a steel block (used as an anvil)
2 tweezers (1 England, 1 Switzerland)
L.S. Starrett Co #18A spring punch (I like this one A LOT ! :bounce:)
and a pair of Channellock #420 (pre-permalock) in original white pouch (barely used)

Went to an estate sale today with a ton of Mac Tools that were way over priced. I was able to spot this little gem. I pretty much buy anything I see plomb. Seems to ratchet fine, although the selector doesn't click into place, just moves wherever you put it. Is this how they are supposed to function?

Also, anyone know if this is cadmium plated? If so how can I safely clean up a little?

The selector being a bit wonky isn't unusual. I have a number of those ratchets and they all seem to have some form of the same problem. As for cleaning, don't use a grinder with a white wheel!

When that old cad plating starts to fly, it can cause all sorts of problems if you breathe it in. I would use some steel wool with a lube to keep the dust from getting airborne

I picked up an old delta Homecraft bench grinder last week and just finished it up. I don't know if this is the right place but I don't think it warranted and whole new thread for a small grinder

It was a simple take apart, mask and paint with a near exact match factory grey paint that I found.

First thing tomorrow it's going to get mounted and used on a small project I've been needing a good grinder for:bounce:

I believe the WF stuff is cad plated. I have a couple of WF sockets that I cleaned up in white vinegar, it worked well.

Clean and lube the insides, inspect the springs, and the switch will probably be fine.

With the cad Plating, I'd be looking at something pretty benign like evaporust, or molasses and water as both are rust converters, and don't mess with the plating.

I should work correctly when it is assembled correctly. The selector should operate between the screws. This will allow the flats of the selector (inside) to rest on the pawls and hold itself in the direction you desire.

Snagged this for $9.25 this morning maybe 75 yards as the crow flies from my house. Hamilton box, Craftsman backsaw, Ridgid 18" steel pipewrench, nylon brush, big rasp. I need to do some cleaning & straightening on the backsaw and prolly make a wooden handle.

Now to find an aluminum 16" or 18" pipewrench...

I hit one sale this morning and did pretty good. The old man was an ex employee of the Toledo pipe threading co so there were lots of pipe thread equipment that I would use at work so I got quite a bit. I didn't take pics of that stuff but here were the tools I managed to find

Early plomb DBE wrench and smooth pebble bed 3/8" doe wrench
1/4" drive plomb sockets mixed in with the Japanese tools

Walden drag link sockets, SK taper wall sockets, snap on, deep craftsman underling and one P&C socket

The old dummy rounds are pretty cool and in good shape. Too bad the things that fired them weren't in the garage:lol:

The little pry bar is a Stanley sweetheart. Never seen one before so I had to take it with me

Not garage sale related but I saw it while pumping gas between garage sales soooo.....
01666.jpg

Now to the garage sales. First stop was listed 7 families with tools, there was 7 lil ladies sitting in chairs and couches and 7 vehicles parked by the curb, no tools....Second stop was listed as 3 shops and a house full of tools. There was lots of tools, big vise, Delta band saw, everything priced high. I put a bid on the big vise and bought this for $25, big can of drywall screws, angle vise, band saw blades, Proto vise grips and a pair of Craftsman pliers.
01668.jpg

6 planned stops later...I got this pile for $3, Hydrometer, glass beaker thingy, 2 twist lock connectors, 4 jaw chuck and a pulley for my fold up sewing table project.
01667.jpg

I spent just about as much in gas as good stuff today so I'm hoping the big vise bid comes through...

That little Stanley tool is used for rounding over the edges on boards. That's what the grooves in the bent portion are for.

Findings have been pretty miss for me recently. Good to see you guys are finding some really nice stuff. Made it to two sales early this morning. Was totally worth it. Actually passed on quite a few good deals as I just didn't need, have space or could transport (Ex. misc tool boxes WELDED together, needing quite a bit of help). $20 total spent. Every once in a while a blind squirrel finds the acorn. ;) Just glad it finally stopped raining. No regrets?

Zkling - That Cman Speeder ratchet would have been a you **** at $20 alone. Nice find.

I picked one up today as well, sadly it's a tragedy. When I post it you'll realize just how much I think you ****. Pics later.

Cleaning out the camera, from a few weeks ago. $10 including the drawer (I needed a bag). Again passed on quite a bit of common stuff.

The snap on box (KRA250 IIRC) was $8 from a road side stand type setup. It needs a little help, but I love the side handles. One of my caveats with portable boxes is lack of trust in the top handle. It does have the KT3 tray, just forgot to get a open pic.

It was raining pretty good this morning but I hit the listed sales anyway. Most had cancelled even thought they had there listing still posted. I did find a nice pair of Lincoln 5 ton jack stands for $15. But that was it.

Thanks guy. Never thought I would own one. Dumb luck on my part.
Jake, I would have bought that one as well, it can't be too bad internally?. I'm anxious to try it out on something.

Nine, hope you get that 3C, so were they trying to make a silent auction out of it?

Not really a silent auction, they mentioned that if we saw something we liked and the price was too high, tomorrow would be 25% off day. I spoke with the lady in charge and she said that if I bid more than the 25% off and no one else buys it today, or leaves a higher bid, I can come by and get it today at closing. Same thing for tomorrow, if I wanted to chance it not selling tomorrow, I could leave ANY bid and if it did not sell and I was highest bid, I get it. I bid $3 more than the 25% off so we'll see at 3pm today.

Some nice finds this weekend guys, a little bit of everything.

It's been really slow for me of late but I hadn't given up, stopped at the swap meet this morning although Saturdays are usually dead and came across these twin blocks, model 397.19440.

The seller said his daughter bought him a "bigger" grinder so he was parting with them. He wanted $10 each which I gladly paid. The one on the right is missing the wheel flanges and neither had the quench tray but they're otherwise complete and run fine.

It was supposed to be somewhat dry in my area this morning. They lied !

Despite the rain, my first two stops were really good. The third stop was meh. The 2 TOO's were a bust. And the last stop was cancelled without any notice, so I wasted gas running 20 miles for nothing. I spent a total of $23 this morning.

Today's haul.

Stop 1: $4

WD-40 is about 85% full, box of bolts (some 8.8 and grades 5 and 8), KD Tierod separator, plastic shoe trees and a sealed fuel injector cleaner.

Stop 2: $40

New Fix-a-flat (I don't know, I like having a can in the trunk), metal patch tape, CLR and 2 Schlage FE595 V's brand new sealed in the boxes. Used: Snap-on SSD 12A

Stop 3: $50

Just kidding!!! It was being auctioned at a storage facility. I didn't bother to open it to check if there's some dude with his Snap-on stuff inside. It had a really high lot number and I didn't stick around to see how much it went for. Probably $50 bucks like the way the other junky (bad, junky auction) stuff there was going for.
