I missed the $50 price tag, not much of a Shop Smith fan but for $50, I'd be a buyer as well!!

YOU ****! Possibly the last YS of the year, still waiting on Beatcad to post

Visited several pawn shops today in the afternoon and scored some wrenches.

Pic. #1....Cash America Pawn...walked up to the counter expecting a $5.00 price, I was ready to counter at $2.25 and raise to $2.50 and walk after that but the guy looked at the three wrenches and said, "Happy New Year. No charge, you can have them."

Pic #2.....Just Right Pawn...Virtually never used, Wright #1130, 15/16 in. combo. Walked up to the counter and laid down the wrench. The guy looked at it and said, "What ya offer". I said a buck fifty. The guy picked up the wrench looked at it, commented on how nice it was and said, "Looks like $2.00 to me." I said, a buck seventy five. The guy said, "$2.00 including tax". I said a buck eighty. The guy said, "If you have eighty cents in your pocket plus a dollar bill, I'll do the deal." I reached into my pocket and scooped everything out and I found 86 cents. :)

Happy New Year to all.

KZ

Great season guys and gals, link to new thread here:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274738

I only made it halfway through the thread but wanted to mention some big scores that stood out to me. This is certainly not all of them, thanks to everyone that contributed, in no particular order.

Beatcad had some killer scores with his lathe, Blackhawk Jack and all his boxes...

Drives picked up a nice 150# Peter Wright anvil and cast layout table.

Outlaw got a killer 18" Cannedy Otto drill press, 12" Delta Sander, Skewdriver Pro and the Long C box!

Toomanytoyz lift top table

Cratains equipto bench

Bluebolts Proto box, Gerstner and all the machine stands(of which I ended up with most of:lol:)
Rusty Musket Proto box

Big Caddy Proto Boxes, lathe and most recently, the never ending story nest door score:bowdown:

Maverick V Craftsman Boxes

Emerald Coupe Proto Boxes

Gearhead Glen B&S Milling Machine

ThatMansMustache Atlas Grinder(let me know if you ever want to sell it!)

Dave, I couldn't see your pics but I know you scored lots of great things!

Jakemac, mohawkdave and cbacres, you guys too, major props to everyone that posted, big and small!!

Went to look at a filing cabinet today, guy had a bunch of tools he was looking to sell. Walked away with this stuff for $63. The Macsimizer set is missing the big Philips, but the tips on the drivers are all in very good shape, and the orange snap on screwdriver trips itself into neutral, I have to look into that, maybe just old grease? The ratchets are 1/4 in. snap on and Napa. Not a killer deal, but I'm happy with it.

ive got an older blue/black set of those macs. they look like they are worn out, but the tips are great. i got thema while back for 20 bucks.

Hey, no problem! I don't wan't you guys to think I left anyone out, I have a poor internet connection out in the shop and only skimmed to June, and ONLY mentioned the big scores that really stood out to me. There were literally hundreds of hand tool scores that were better than some of the ones I mentioned, but those sadly got skimmed over as well.

The bar was set pretty high, lets try to beat it this year!!

I feel honored to make the list:rocker:. I was shabby at the volume of "stuff" since I've had a long year of tinkering on a few project cars which seemed to relinquish my fun money. I'm hoping to make up for it this year.

Oh yeah, don't forget to put yourself in the mix. The mag drilled you procured should be on the top of the list.

The mag drill was one of my most financially good purchases but the Delta band saw is probably my most favorite purchase of the year. I've looked at the mag drill a few times but it stays in a drawer and I have not had a chance to use it yet. The band saw however, just got cleaned up, rewired, new belts, tires and put to use, it will be something I use more regularly.

Couple other of my favorite personal scores was the 260# Hey Budden anvil, the Baldor buffer and belt sander, the machinist tools, SK wrench set, the fan stool(awaiting refurb) and the killer Gerstner and machine stands I got from Bluebolt(thanks again man!). This was a great year for me tooling up! :willy_nil

Did some killer trades and received some killer gifts as well, you guys rock!

I remember that one I wouldn't call it a bargain as much as outright theft. The kind we all dream of.

I recall a lathe for $250 sometime in the summer as well.

So I guess it wouldn't make it any worse if I mentioned that when I finally got it plugged in to the wall, it ran and worked just fine...

I joke of course. I couldn't be happier for you. I don't have the space and just had to sell a well loved Logan lathe. For a tad more than your south bend. Should the fates and shop space allow I hope to have a nice little lathe again one day.

My best deal of the year was probably my truck at 600 dollars for a running, driving 4wd truck. It may not be a tool directly, but it makes it a lot easier to pick up bigger tools. Also got some deals on some small tools, mostly at pawn shops. Though I did pick up a short handled proto 3/8 ratchet for cheap at a garage sale. The head is nice and thin for tighter spots too. I also added a chop saw and a cherry picker/engine hoist to my garage.

Funny you mention a vehicle. I went to see a 6" columbian vise at an elderly women's house and there was a 2003 Buick Century with 28k miles on the odometer blocking it. I asked for the keys but she said the car was 'shorted out' and she was pissed the dealer wouldnt take it on trade for her brand new Lincoln Navigator. I asked how much they offered her for it and she said $800. I offered $700 if she threw in the vise. She agreed, i put my jumper cables on it, started it and drove it home.

I didn't feel bad as her husband had passed 6 months earlier and she told me how he had left her $750k in insurance she knew nothing about.

I think my best one of this year's was shared with a buddy when he bought a file cabinet for $10 at an estate sale I talked him into going to. As we put the file cabinet in the van and began to drive away we found an envelope full of cash taped underneath totalling $3120!!!! He blurts out as he's counting it I'll split it with you!!! let's just say it was a good day to estate sale!!

Did you ever figure out what the unknown Bluepoint tool is? The one where you turn the knob on the end and the screwdriver bit turns? I found something similar and i'm having trouble figuring out what it is!
