If anybody else has this car I would like the answer to these two questions.

1) Where do you use a floor jack to lift the entire front of the car. (Pics would be good) Don't respond with use the pinch welds where the emergency jack goes as I know all about that and it doesn't help at all as that's where the jack stands need to go. If you're going to say use the factory manual lift point please don't respond as that's no help whatsoever and a waste of electrons.

2) On the YouTube videos I've seen on the late model Sonata the plastic undershield has a hole in it for the oil filter access and a little removable panel for the oil drain plug. I see neither of these on my 2016 model. It looks to me like I need to remove one of the plastic shields. If anybody could elaborate on this I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

Regrettably not. They just have the hoist lifting points which are worthless with a floor jack as that's where the jackstands need to go. There has got to be a cross member somewhere (the car isn't high enough for me to see it) since the engine and the transmission has to bolt to something. My Pontiac Grand Prix had one right behind the radiator support which worked great. No such lifting point seems to exist for this car.

If I had to, I would use the control arms in the front - one at a time - not sure how I would tackled the rear - lift from the pinch weld and used jackstands under the rear control arms?

That red X in the back is probably safe to lift from, but the front only has that one black engine support section on the driver's side to lift from. I don't see any spot on the passenger side to place a jack saddle. That red brace all the way in the front would surely get dented if an attempt was made to lift from there.

This car most definitely needs pinch weld adapters so the floor jack can lift from there. But for me if I owned to car, I would simply get a set of Rhino ramps to do oil changes.

I would never buy a car that was such an ordeal to get on stands. My 7th gen Accord has a lifting point on the subframe and a hump on the back end of the chasis for lifting points. Takes less than 5 min to have all 4 wheels airborne.

Not to be a party pooper, but is that photo even of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata undercarriage?

Since when did a Sonata get tubular rear a-arms, a rear driveshaft, and a differential heatsink cover?:wtf:

I work on a lot of sonotas & they usually have holes for drain plug & filter. Some have access panels on one or both. I will double check tomorrow but you should be able to use the frame rails inboard of the pinch welds in front & subframe should go across the back side of the belly pan if you can access that without damaging the plastic. Also like other people said the control arms always work. Better to get as close to the wheel as possible.

Ooooops.... sharp eye - that photo came from a Google search and was posted in a Hyundai forum - but you're right - that is definitely not a Sonata.:eek::eek:

Under the front door piller on the rocker edge and rear rocker edge about 10 inches in from the end at a rough guess.

Lift from the pinch welds and see what's under there first of all...how do you think the rest of the mechanic world figures out how to lift a car they have never seen before... get under and look. Beat way to do that is lift from the factory lift point. Once you see what's there you can decide where to put what.

Personally my intrepid has a similar issue as I suspect almost all current vehicles do. I lift at the front pinch and stand where the subframe/body joint. Can't get a jack under the subframe or control arm so no choice. I've see garages lift it on a 2 post from those points also.

Jack it up by the unibody frame rails, or put the jack stand under them and jack it by the pinch welds.

I realize you don't want to damage your new car but it's not made out of porcelain. Find a sturdy spot on the subframe or the frame rails and jack away. If it seems like the jack is going through the floor then drop it and try a new spot.

2011 Hyundai Sonata like the 2016 Hyundai Sonata does not have a defined area to place a jack.

Video on jacking up the rear of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata:

Richard Lloyd created the video and has this to say about jacking the car up:

My jack has a rubber pad in the center and I am using that on a nut and bolt that is in center of the lower suspension swing arms on the rear. The jack stands also have rubber covers on them. I put them between the wheel and the jack on the lower swing arms you can see this on the video at 2:22. I did the same on the front as well but I did not use the jack stands there. I don't like using the rocker panel pinch points to jack the car up as it damages the paint there and begins the process of corrosion.
