I got a good deal at a pawn shop yesterday. I got the following Craftsman USA tools.
Sockets, 1/2" dr. metric & sae short. 3/8" dr. metric & sae deep and short. 1/4" dr. metric & sae deep and short.
Ratchets one 1/2" dr., two 3/8" dr. ratchets, one 1/4" dr. ratchet.
A few screwdrivers, a few assorted wrenches, a few misc sockets.

All the sockets, ratchets and tools were DIRTY. One of the guys from the pawn shop came to see what I was digging out of the bins where they dump the crudy stuff. He said you are getting the dirtyest stuff there! I smiled. After I got all the stuff that was dirty I brought the box to the counter and the guy said how about $3!!! I didn't even argue. The best deal I have gotten in a while.

I picked up two toolboxes that were previously flood victims today for $40: a flooded vidmar / lista five drawer half height box and a three drawer with storage space below Craftsman box. The former is easily salvaged; all drawers open and close well, the key is present, and the locks work. Looks like hell but will be a good box / machine stand. The latter is pretty janky and will likely be a total loss, which is disappointing but c'est la vie. Pictures to come on those when it's light outside and I have a chance to put the drawers back in.

Also got a Powr Kraft stove (of some sort) with the deal. Below are pictures of it next to a standard size Coleman lantern. It's pretty big / hefty and leaves me wondering if it's really a stove or something else, perhaps something for melting lead or a similar purpose. I'd appreciate everybody's $.02 as I've come up with nothing searching on the web, at least using the search terms that come to mind.

The part number (which I assume to be partial) also doesn't turn up anything. Any ideas as to what I've got?

It is a stove, but as you said for melting lead and the like, and could be used for heating soldering coppers.

The key is what fuel? It could be Coleman/White gas/Naphtha, or kerosene, and possibly pump gasoline. The last is less likely.

See the coiled pipe in the flame path? That is the "generator, which the fuel flows through and vaporizes so you can get a good blue flame.

I suspect Kerosene, based on the size of the generator. Open the tank up and smell it, that should give you a clue.

Is there a cup under that coiled pipe? If so that needs to have some fuel in it and lit to preheat the genny. Alcohol is often used for preheat. Gas is very dangerous for that. Coleman/White gas is OK, but don't use a lot...

$3 for that whole pile? :willy_nil Wow you ****! He probably could have said $15 and you wouldn't have argued... lol.

My 77yr old neighbor would have haggled him down to $1, because he's like that... lol

He's probably just glad to get rid of some of it though.

I'll tell you what, I'll double your money and give you $6 for it all. :)

Did a pick after I got home from Newport. Found this 150mm (6") York. Then i found this repaired 4" Reed. On a side note got this old school Cambell Hausfeld 26 gal compressor (115 v single phase 2 hp) and cast iron legs $200 for everything.

So I got three pairs of these today. They're Grip-Ons, made in Spain, labeled RR-55. I found that Blue-Point rebrands Grip-Ons in green, but I can't find these particular pliers anywhere. Anyone know what these are for? I'm thinking an adjustable spanner wrench of some sort..

Those are probably for oil filters. I would be interested in a pair if you don't have a use for all three.

Forgot to go to an estate sale down the street today because it was half-off and there was a paper cutter I was wanting. By the time I remembered late afternoon it was gone. I did a quick walk through the garage and found this 1" EMT | 3/4" Rigid pipe bender (no handle)... Can't believe nobody grabbed it!

A gift for my son:
Found eleven of these guys in a pawn shop for $21, and filled in three more (¼, ¾, 1") from a thrift store for $11.
All -V^- except for the 1" which is -VV-
So mostly the same generation as my son, which I think he will like.

Picked up a couple of gravity spray guns off offer up. Been going back and forth for a couple weeks. I'm planning on doing a lot of spraying this year as I plan on getting all my Vidmars and Listas painted up and I been wanting to get a HVLP/gravity gun for a while.

I was after the Plus model, based on all the reviews and forums I red up on. The guy worked at a dealer paint shop and filled both with thinner so I could test out, we got to talking and he gave me a inside run down on both. So now I'm not sure which one to get, so in GJ fashion, I bought both. I'll try both out and may sell one off later.

I have a handful of DeVilbiss and Binks siphon guns and may just sell them off.

The Plus gun is set up for the 3M PPS system, I'm really impress with it and will invest in some supplies.

My quest for decent and pro equipment just continues, seems like every time I buy something, I find something else to go get for it.

I finally got most of the tools sorted from the loads this week. Most looks like flea market stuff right now but there are some really nice pieces in the mix. Wrench's range from Craftsman long "C" , Billings & Spencer, Williams, Vlchek and Indestro. A stamped steel socket set made by Ray. Other brands of tools like Miller Falls, Iron City, Cheney, Crescent, Blackhawk, Walden, Proto, Starrett, Keen Kutter, Atha and Ford to name a few. Tools were really a small part of the pick over all but the reason I even went to look. Three loads later and I'm stocked for the next 6 months!

At the first of the year a buddy and I decided to put up a CL ad looking for vise's , anvils and other tools. This was my first hit on the ad. A 6" Bridgeport vise, an improved Cheney vise, anvil , drill combo and a pana vise. The tools are a round hammer, L.Coes 5" monkey wrench, Cee Tee odd pliers, and a odd pair of Proto pliers, 1-60 National Twist Drill & Tool Co. index, and a heavy duty Armstrong 3" C clamp. Gave $140 for every thing. The Cheney vise still has the Hardi cut off amazingly but is missing the drill table and drill handle... No swivel base for the beefy Bridgeport but its in very good condition over all.

I was running around town so figured I would stop at a couple new pawn shops and see what they had. Unfortunately nothing good, and one was waaaay over priced.

However, heading home I stopped by a couple of my usual stores and found some good finds...

First place I got an Ace Super Set no 614 of Taps & Dies... Mostly complete, just missing a couple taps and is a little rusty. Going to dump them in the evaporust later and let them clean up.

Second place, at first I saw this vintage craftsman adjustable wrench and it was cheap. Then I saw that SK set still on the shelf taunting me, so I bought it too! LOL.

Jason, that's a nice SK set! 3/8's? Metric and SAE?

Yep... 3/8" drive... Reg & Long... Metric & SAE...

I just couldn't stand it sitting at the store any longer. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep them or sell. I'll probably list them here first for a while before putting them up on ePay...

The hammer is a Macadam hammer, used to make the old Macadam roads. It was used to break stones.

Forum member asking if Barcalo wrench has numbering. I don't know how to attach pic to Private Message yet. It's kinda weird that #1 is opposite direction of other marking.

Here's my other barcalo's, it's weird the numbering is not sequential. Does anyone know what the numbers mean? I thought they were for like easier organization, but now I'm not so sure.

From last weekend. Went to an estate sale and found this grab bag of misc sockets, ratchets, and other bits for $20. Normally I never get these grab bags since I always end up getting a raw deal but I think this might have been one of the better ones for one reason only...

All laid out, what is shown below are all the things that didn't apply to me or had no use for so I could resell, a chunk of 3/4" sockets and even a snap-on L32 3/4" extension. There was a lot of Bonney, some more snap-on, and a lot of other names that are hard to read out. There were also a lot of old u-joint sockets. A surprising amount of plomb tools like the other 3/8" breaker bar as well as well as sliding bar and sockets. There was also a Cman sliding bar breaker but I don't think ill be wanting that.

Another interesting piece down in the bottom corner are Craftsman BE ratchet, extension, and 1/4 breaker bar. The ratchet looks to be one of the rarer ones I've seen. Plus I've seen plenty of BE 1/4" sockets at flea markets so I think ill put together a set for resale to make back my $20 plus more.

What I took away from it (and what I saw that made me buy it) was this nice snap-on ferret F-70N ratchet, a snap-on 3/8" u-joint, and a few snap-on crowsfeet and Cman USA sockets, plus a 3/8" proto breaker bar.

HOWEVER, I think the most interesting piece to this set was the other ratchet I saw. I found NO info on this ratchet on any of the tool sites, its obviously old and at first I thought it was non-reversing but it turns out pushing the button and then twisting the square drive reverses the direction. Only info I know on it is that Hinsdale hasn't made tools since about the 40's-ish and that its a gearless ratchet. I decided to keep it because I think its really cool, seems (to me) to be a rare tool as there is no info on this ratchet on any site or ebay and I can always use another ratchet.

So... Does anyone have any other info on this hinsdale ratchet? I'm really curious on a potential value/rarity of it.

Uh, I started to read your post Corndeggeh and thought how much I can't stand grab bags, be it at a yard sale or a thrift store or anywhere because they are full of mismatched junk........

Then I scrolled down ..... and what a sweet grab bag.

That ratchet is quite cool. They are a bit harder to find, I've seen a few but Hinsdale are older and some not as common. If you do want to sell it hit me up, I don't have one in the collection.

The bad part though is that I passed up on another grab bag there that was $40 but it was labled "Craftsman, snapon, etc" with the only thing seen in that bag was an extremely worn and beaten Cman ratchet so I thought it would be a bust.

I also ended up passing up a small box of 1/4" sockets that DID have some of the other BE sockets in there but at the time I didn't even know the Cman ratchet was in there >_<.

Ah well, thats what keeps the hunt alive!

No interesting looking garage sales last week so Saturday I hit one of the flea markets. Not much for tools but I picked up this Craftsman Crown label belt dressing can for $5.

Then I found a binder with the entire 1965 Air Trails Hobbies for Young Men magazines for $7. They are not in good shape but I am still happy with them.

I then stopped at an antique show, only a few tools that were pretty high priced but picked up this Dunlap hand plane with the box for $20 and the Sport Car Specials magazine for $5. The hand plane is pretty nice and mostly just needs a good polishing on the bare metal parts.
