Hit an Estate sale on Weds. First day blues, but this sale looked good enough to pay higher prices:
two yards of test lead wire, box of 10/24 nuts, very nice small relay (look that one up on amazon if you want a shock) Sterling amp meter (very old school) GE motor starter, a couple of Plomb drivers, a VACO multi tip. All that was $12. The (almost) perfect Triplett 666 was $20 (works, but had a little corrosion inside) I love the old bakelite meters! Also found this for $35:
A 40's-50's tube tester. That price is about ebay ave. but I had been looking for one and I got to see this one work. Also found this for $12:

It was $86 for everything, but I only had $83. He let me have it. I might go back for day three tomorrow, see what is left. (And hey, you can see how much **** is in my shop!

Yes, its an SK roto. Head is still tight and looks to have been lightly used.
This is only my second roto in 5 years of looking.

I wasn't planning on any sales today, but ....
I need to replace the ******** the fuel tank of my truck, before I pick my nephew up from preschool. But when I went outside to start it this morning, the truck was still soaking wet from last night's rains. Since I didn't want to be dripped on while crawling around under the truck, I decided to dry it off by driving it around a bit.
Which is how I ended up at a yard sale that was really an estate cleanout. Almost the whole house was open so after a quick pass through the garage, it was straight to the basement.
There was a sign on the workbench, "bench not for sale", so I asked if the vise was a part of it. I was told that a nephew wanted the bench, but no-one mentioned the vise.
After the guy did a poll of the other family members there, I was told that the vise was for sale.
"How much are you asking ?"
"How's $15 ?"

I grabbed a wrench out of a box and went to town. The nephew is getting a 2x4 bench with a notch out of the front edge where the vise used to sit. I refuse to feel guilty (Ok, maybe a little), I know the picker who was looking over my shoulder at the time and he would have grabbed it if I hadn't. If the nephew wanted the vise, he should have gotten out of bed and helped with the sale like the other family members.
After securing the vise, I went scrounging for any leftovers in the boxes of tools. Someone got a full set of 50's Craftsman 1/2dr =V= sockets w/ the box head ratchet. Wasn't me, but I did Ok otherwise. There wasn't much there to begin with and the good stuff went fast.
Here's my take for a total of $20

Storage! Was told it was navy gear. No markings. Wheels were added at some point. This is 4 units that interlock too so i could make it into a 6 drawer bench too. Kind of neat
That's a definite you ****, I'm always on the lookout for those style craftsman. I buy all I see but haven't got one that cheap in that good of condition

Picked from an estate sale on the way to work Friday morning. Estate was that of a past Vietnam Era Pilot. Curious if traveled with the air pressure gage to ensure all was up to snuff?.. While a USAF pilot checking air pressures (with a gage) is not practiced today...I wonder if was a thing 'back in the day' or if he stole the dang kit from the crew chief. Anyway, it is very nice and offers readings from 20ish to 400ish what a range, very high quality w/attachments and the ability to fill and read at the same time.
The Lundley hat...Vietnam era, was an exciting find for me as a former AFSOC flyer, the hat shown is that of the USAF Air Commandos which would later evolve into my alma mater Air Force Special Operations Command.
Finally, an extremely complicated measuring device that came with zero instructions...maybe my lovely wife can help me figure this one out.
Oh, and I'm officially changing my call sign to "Home Wrecker" has a nice ring to it!

Stopped at a yard sale yesterday-guy has one about once a month and fills his back yard from A-Z. Found an S-K Socket 40122, 11/16" for 1/2 in drive. $0.00.
Hit the Flea Market in WV today and spent $11.00-lots of vendors today. Williams 1166A 25/32 Combo, S-K 5/8 combo, Proto 1211, 11/32 combo, Proto 1120, 3/8-5/16, DBE, Easco 1/4 " combo, CMAN 1/4 " combo, CMAN 5/16 combo, CMAN 3/8 combo, CMAN 9/16 combo and a CMAN 10 mm. Spent $11.00.

For that, I got a box of chandelier chain, half of the letters of "MACK" from a truck, broken saw bade, cutoff 12V plug, antifreeze tester, Ivy Tools #3&4 Phillips screwdriver, old Craftsman slot screwdriver, Williams 3/16 nutdriver, terminal clips, hammer belt hanger, Eagle Lock w original key, Kreuter pliers, 10" 3-oval Utica Drop Forge & Tool Company Button's pattern pliers, 4" Utica dikes, 1952 Blue Point long DOE, 1947 Blue Point DOE, Bonney CV 2535A wrench, 8oz softface hammer, Bonney ball pein hammer, and a Hollands 400 pipe vise.

2 planned stops and 2 TOO's today.
All were busts except the last TOO.
The first stop promised lots of tools. Not really and the prices for his Home Depot purchases were outrageous. The only reason I went was because of a toolbox I saw in one of his pictures. Kinda vintage Matco looking so I wanted to check it out for SnG's. Turned out to be a Dayton (possibly supplied by Matco ????). He wanted $200 for the box and "all the good tools inside". BS, the box was full of junk drawer stuff and a few so-so tools. Wasn't gonna happen.
If the box was deeper (only 18" deep) I might have made a $75-$100 offer on the empty box (which he would have refused), but I don't need anymore boxes that won't roll under my benchwork. PASS
Eventually I made it to the last TOO. It was on a busy street with little room to park and no-one was stopping. So, of course I had to be THAT guy.
Glad I was.
Buckets of tools, mostly Craftsman and junk. But I was told I could dump the buckets on the lawn to dig through them, and I did.
When I went to pay, the lady said "You know what you got, how much to you want to pay for it ?
D'oh !! I hate that. What I'm thinking and what comes out of my mouth are never the same.
I offered $20 and she accepted (I was thinking $5 and settle on $10)

This stuff came from the estate of an instrument/electronics repair guy at a local chemical company. Wish I knew more about electronics since the garage was chock full of electrical test equipment, vacuum tubes, etc. $20

Went to 4 sales today and all if them were a bust for decent tools. I did pick up a full 30-drawer hardware organizer missing the obligatory 2 drawers and a Bessey C clamp at the ReStore for $3.25.

Good stuff guys!
Most of my stuff was nickle dime except for to my second planned stop. Some TOO's were in there also, and all in all, had a good day!
Examples: the first thing was the machete scabbard for a quarter, Orange tape for a buck (I use this up camping/hunting both for a "hatband" so I'm more visible at times, and for lines that could be in the way...), Craftsman 1/2" reversible ratchet wrench for cents fifty, and two bucks for the clamp and clips.
Chruch sale I got the leather leash (got that for the leather strap as material), new car charger for AA/AAA batteries, and the circular slip stick all for $2.
A TOO had the heavy Proto 4" Clamp, Flair wrench, Bondhous ball Allen driver, and three pliers for $5
The Estate sale was for a former machinist. little work shop FULL of stuff! I lest TONS but cherry picked these. there was a BUNCH of ammo cans ful of fasteners probably 30-40! lots of tool boxes, plus a yard full! I'm pretty sure this was day two or more.
I hauled my Haul out in a milk crate:
Ands this was wheat was in it!
Large Union Square set, Small Brown & Sharp square set (this one landed in my mini banch Woon machinest box...) Starrett 1" Mic, and LARGE V blocks with 2 clamps each! (I NEVER find the clamps!)
The pick I thought was a painted US Army pick. Close! its marked USFD Cool!; Coleman funnel in most of the original box, brass hammer, two hand files in a cigar tube, Brass clip, a de-burring tool, and a box of HEAVY Singer sewing machine needles! I'm guessing for the leather duty machines?
Where's Nine? Haven't seen him in a while? Box is marked 7 X 3 and 22...
Very different Pipe wrench with two sizes of jaws, Couple of power hacksaw Blades, 20" SO extension, Brass Bar, set of Proto flare wrenches, a Craftsman Extension, and a TruFit DBE.

After a long dry spell, I found a worthwhile estate sale here in the Tulsa area last week. I went days 1, 2 and 3 on my lunch break. No steals, but fair prices and got a few items I've been looking for. I passed on a few SO items that were overpriced (for an estate sale), so I still have some willpower.

- Craftsman branded 6" combination square. Seems like every time I drag out my 12" combo square, I think, "It would have been easier to do this if I had a 6-inch version. I'd never seen one at an ES before now. It has the spirit level and the scribe (they're always missing the scribe). It doesn't look like a Starrett, but I wonder who made it - no mfg mark. Good shape, just needs a little cleanup and then it's ready to go to work.
- Proto Professional 5453A adapter 3/4" F to 1/2" M. Wanted one, and this is the first one I've seen in the wild.
- Snap-on LRS 70 1/2" drive ratchet spinner. I have an SO in 3/8" drive and a MAC in 1/4" drive. The set is now complete.
- Snap-on SA18A 1/2" drive 9/16 hex socket. Yes thank you, do you have any more? (They didn't.) The first time I need that little beast, it'll be money well spent.
- Craftsman snap ring spreader. No part number, looks like a circle B mfg mark. I have a MAC version of these with a slightly different tip. One of those tools that if you need it, YOU NEED IT. I couldn't make myself put it down.
Day 2
- Blue-Point TF5 double flaring tool kit. Didn't have a double-flare kit, been watching for one, this one is complete with all the anvils. Surprised it was still there on Day 2. Maybe most guys already have one.
- Utica 8" slip joint pliers. Good chrome, clean jaws. For 75 cents, was there really a decision to be made?
- Vise Grip WR5 and 4LW pliers, USA. Both good shape, clean jaws. Faithful GJ'ers never leave good USA Vise Grips behind.
- OTC 951 bearing splitter. I couldn't find the other pieces to this, but it can be useful stand-alone when using a press.
- Snap-on impact sockets, 3/8" through 11/16", plus a GAX1 1/2" F to 3/8" M impact adapter, 75 cents each I couldn't say no.
- Craftsman 1 1/6" 6pt socket, upside-down G mfg mark. That was a missing size in my set, and doubles as a 27mm.
- Vise Grip 20R chain wrench, USA. Another one of those tools that when you need it, it'll get you out of a jam.
- Craftsman 10" breaker bar, =V= mfg mark. It's near pristine, and I didn't have one in this length.
Day 3
- Craftsman pickle fork set, no mfg mark. Didn't have one (don't take my GJ card) and had to borrow one recently from my cousin. For a few bucks, I'm off the loaner program.
- No-name saw set. Those that do hand tool woodworking will recognize this.
- Snap-on SRP5A snap ring spreader. Similar in function to the Craftsman one picked on Day 1, but the jaws remain parallel to each other.
- Thorsen 1/2" drive t-handle. Perfect chrome, cheap, didn't have one.
- KD Tools 3191 and Blue-Point YA 3080 CV boot clamp tightening tools. Didn't have either tool, but have run across the need before and the work-arounds are never satisfactory. Bring on the torn CV boots!
- No name grinding wheel dressing tool. Much longer and heavier than the one I have - a cheap upgrade.
- Not pictured, but maybe the best bargain - 250 pieces of new un-primed Starline brass in 357 Magnum, fifteen dollars. Never pass up a chance to increase the zombie-apocalypse stash.

Been trying to make up for lost time. My pick is in overdrive. Literally tons of stuff. Including a 1925 Coleman lantern, 1921 pre-snap on vacuum grip pliers. Tip of the iceberg too much to even list.

No steal but $10 on a starret 1-2" mic. Has a name engraved but I don't mind. Now just need get a few more....

Those Huot indexes are great. I have four of them. My Letter and Number are sparsely populated, but (like you) I have a lot of Fractionals (and taps).
I've never seen a pipe wrench like that. Any markings on it?

Today score, I've been on the hunt for a better air impact gun to replace the harbor freight one. Today I found two and for $35 for each I thought I did well! One is a snap on M154a(I think, going off memory) and the other is a 3/4" drive indersoll Rand that I'm unsure of which model number. Any help on identifying the indersoll in case I need to rebuild it. I have yet to test them but I'm hopeful.

Right you are. The earlier Penney's tools that are branded Penncraft were made by New Britain.

I gave the drills I got with the Hout a basic, sorting, and transferred all my "bulk" fractional into it.
So I added 64 added fractional, and it had roughly 50 No. Drills and near 40 letter, as well as 27 taps including 3 pipe, plus 5 reams, 7 center drills

Very different Pipe wrench with two sizes of jaws Couple of power hacksaw Blades, 20" SO extension, Brass Bar, set of Proto flare wrenches, a Craftsman Extension, and a TruFit DBE.
That is indeed a Parmelee-style pipe wrench! It's a non-marring, friction grip, pipe wrench. I once found one of the clamps at a sale and not knowing what it was, bought it. We ID'd it on the GS thread.
