I have more than once had that very same thought!

I do every time I have to work the week end and there are sales! hah..... You know most of my good finds are when I'm off on Thursday and Friday and I hit sales early.. most people are working during the week. I have a weird schedule where I'm off Thursday and Friday on week and Saturday and Sunday the next. Also there doesn't seem to be too many Tool guys around my area. A guy today saw my Plomb box and told me.. you do know about Plomb dont you.. I said yes sir, I kinda of collect the stuff. He says well its really Proto... from Dallas Texas. lmao I was like... oh ok cool. as I look down at the LOS ANGELES on the lid...

Man 3bay you did make a great haul!! some really nice stuff. I got the little brother to your SK 8" adjustable a few weeks ago. I dont see many of those around. I need to start my own estate sale business just to cherry pick the sales I do lol!!

Thanks. Most S-K I see are older. Think I took notice of some Western Forge marks on this btw.

Dang! Good haul 3baygarage ! Between you and RagTopTA I feel like I need to just keep my head down and maybe someday I will find the deals you both do! Especially like the body hammer set....but I may be biased![emoji481][emoji481][emoji481]

Nonsense! :) We all know it takes a lot of sales to find just one honey hole.

Unless you are Ragtop of course. I was just starting to make up a song All Plomb's Excess Lives in Texas

Thanks.

Been in California this week, just now getting back. Jealous is the nice deals posted. The wife had our itinerary booked full, Clark W. Griswold style, so I wasn't even able to cherry pick free things on the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist

Hi Merc, Thanks; If they are box stoves, I have way too many as it is. Single burners, maybe. Let me know what you have.

I am watching for a one gallon tank for big stoves to re-purpose. Size is about 5" X 14"+ or so (the type that you pump up like a camp stove, only these are generally on a stationary cabin range...

Nothing interesting on the box stove side, I've cleared a few out, including the aluminum case ones. Just a few two burner and one three burner left to sell. The single burners I've got are a Primus No 71, a Hipolito No 2, and the large Powr Kraft lead / solder melting stove I posted in January.

Wow 3bay..S-K custom, never heard of that.

It's part of the 80's "peg pack" era of S-K.

The body hammers alone are worth over what you paid ! You ****;)

I actually tossed back 5 Bonney combo wrenches because the whole set wasn't there and I don't like overpaying for individual wrenches!

Also watched an excellent looking Husky USA combo set get broken up because all wrenches were mixed together. It pains me to see that. I tried to help a guy piece the set together but he wanted certain ones.

Also, cant stand when vintage packaging gets destroyed. A Mac slide hammer had a fragile old box, found the box top tossed on the floor in the corner after the thing was man handled so of course I had to fix that.

Now I'm ranting about policing estate sales! Yes, time to each start our own biz and cherry pick. LOL. Before long no one will show up because the sales have nothing good, and what is there will be priced high because the valuable stuff is gone. Also, before we know it nothing left to talk about here because we will have conquered it all in no time. :)

Damn

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Nothing going on here. I hit two nearby garage sales whose idea of "tools" is "we got a rusty POS Chinese screwdriver."

You're getting decent to outstanding finds guys!:thumbup::thumbup:

I like those miter boxes, did you find a good back saw with it? I have one of mine mounted on a wood base with routed edges, and a cleat on the bottom for the Work mate.

I also had a decent day. It just started late. The earliest stop was 8:30 and they weren't open! the next was nine and were insistent "Not til nine!"

So we got a doughnut (one of my daughters was with me), adn came back, adn waited for 5 more minutes...

Worth it though. for $20 I got

1/4" craftsman ratchet box with most of the stuff except for the ratchet, An older midland Analog VOM, Dominoes, in a tin, a Stanley Plane, 3 15 min flares, and an old compass similar to one I got a few weeks ago except no 100 YO patent dates...

attachment.php

A coupe opf small cloth bags about like coin sacks but no ties or labels, an extendable reach magnet, and a key-chain lantern...

attachment.php

And probably the best find, A Velox wood clamp! see that "key" between the screws? its a quick release! open that and you can slid it quick to open or close then cinch with the screws, which is why they are on the same side instead of opposite.

And that was stop one..

That wood clamp was awesome. There was no saw with the miter box, but it is stinking heavy. I haven't found a manufacturer on it yet, but it is by far the heaviest one I have ever encountered.

Also, I'm going back tomorrow, according to the guy who works the sale (you know, the guy who sells stuff cheap instead of "full price sally" that is also there) told me that they are bringing down more tools tonight.

We went back by the 8:30 stop and they were open I picked up a few things and was told "just take them!" So free is always good:

attachment.php

I gave two bucks for the bird, handle and Yankee bits.

attachment.php

last stop was the HS Fleamarket:

$5 for the switches and Stanton Phono cartilage box, (has parts inside but I wanted the box... two for the army bayonet scabbard (WWII? Korea? :dunno: ), and two for the Proto Pickle fork and truck, the truck is metal, made in England for Chevron and has the old Standard RPM chevron on the back. Its not perfect as the front bumper is broken off and whatever the cargo was is MIA

Closeup of the Chevron truck

not a stellar day, but not bad either!

Fowldarr,

That's a Langdon ACME mitre box. They partnered with Millers Falls for most of their manufacturing lifetime. I found one back in 2015 and just put it up on Ebay. You got a screaming good deal on it, even without the long back saw.

Here's a good reference site:

Only had 1 local estate sale today. I stayed out of Swingpress AO but that's just for today . I did manage to pick up a few nice items . Most are in need of TLC but should yield well for an even $100 I brought this home.

A $1.00 box of old wrench's. I pulled one old Ford wrench out that I have never seen before. I'm guessing it's a tractor wrench and not an auto one. It has measurement markings on it ! :thumbup:There's lots more goodies in there but that's the best one.

I got this cool looking wood duck. It's made of twigs wired together then cut to form a duck. Kinda like a folk art piece. I don't know the value of it but I'd rather have it than the 2 bucks I gave for it!

Claw hammer hatchet, marked Philadelphia Tool co. Plumb bought these guys out in 1889. They were both in the same city and Plumb was growing fast! I've had a lot of this style of axe/ hatchet and a common fail on them is the claw . Many have a broken tooth. This old dude is built to last ! It's much heavier built then any I have ever owned. It's a keeper!

Also for a buck I picked a No. 235 , size 3 Midget grommet die made by C.S Osbourne, Still in the box and with a few brass grommets

Along with the rest of my dollar deals was an 8" Western knife . The blade is in great condition but all the leather is missing. If the blade wasn't in such great shape I would have just let it lay. I'm gona try to fill in the handle and pin on some teak wood scales. I'll try and use some of those stainless rods I picked up earlier this week as pins and see how that goes. Should be a fun project.

The real money was spent on the planes. I picked up. 35 on the Stanley No. 7 and 35 on a flat top bed rock 606. 12 each on the two no. 5's. One No. 5 is a sweetheart the other is a victory. The no. 7 is dated Apr. 19, 1892and the bedrock is 1895. These all need some work but not a broken tote in the bunch! :pimpflash

I've got quite a few of the wood spin clamps, but I've never seen/heard of a quick release version.

Did a quick Google and found another one listed, but looks like they are very rare. http://theclampguy.info/mkcc_vlx.htm

Great pick up and thanks for giving me another item to look for when out.

Next time your out let me know! I never get weird about people hunting the same stuff as me! There was plenty before me and there will be plenty of stuff long after I'm gone! Heck I had been kicking around the idea of finding a place and inviting folks from GJ to hang out or tool swap/show off this summer. Heck I'd even invite ya over for smoked ribs and brisket provided you don't ask what's in the secret rib rub [emoji58]. If we could get a few folks together over the summer I'd be happy to smoke up ribs and beans for an afternoon B.S. session.

Way to go guys

Hemi- cool find!

Outlaw, that clamp logo is sweet!

Private Lugnutz - are you around? I found something interesting today. I was out at the flea digging through a box of tools I've been through many times before when something caught my eye.

This all metal screwdriver with a crossbar hole. The part # sort of looked military-ish.

# A-293001

Sure enough the actual military manual popped up. Turns out it is a fuel sytem "jet wrench" for a Light Tank M5 and 75mm Howitzer Motor Carriage M8. Pretty neat.

Link to the manual from 1943. Its on page 238, letter G, the 3/16" blade. Found the part # thanks to the second link here.

Here is a picture of the page too.

You two should tag-team.
I've done it with a few other members before on big sales and it makes for a great time, even at a disappointing sale.

Nice variety of goodies today...
Lodge cast iron skillet
Oil can
Littestown vise small
Vintage can
Railroad jack - no name
"Matchless" insulated driver - I always grab those
Samson wood chisel with brass ferrule
2 trade knives - one is an I. Wilson (1849 to 1891 era)

Good thing the one knife had the stamp,
I dont know that I would have figured out what they are.
Most from one seller for cheap money.

This is why sometimes you check out garage sales that have a bunch of kids clothes and toys. Occasionally you will find a gem. Today I paid the princely sum of 50 cents for this Armstrong screw jack. There was exactly nothing else tool or man-oriented at the place, just kids stuff.

Says Armstrong Bros Tool Co Chicago USA and NO 2. 5-1/4" max height. 3-1/2" min height. 3" hex base, 1-5/8" pad diameter. Kinda wish there would have been a pair but the price was right.

2 flea markets, a Restore, Goodwill, 2 thrift stores, and a handful of garage sales, we came home with these for $2.

Pretty much a total bust except for the kid, he got the Rambo Lambo.

Thanks for the link Mike! I've tried to contact them, but rare indeed! This is apparently the second example known! :eyecrazy:
