After a quick clean up. I think i will place this into service in the near future. Does anyone know what kind of warranty info S&K offers on their older sets such as this as these are my first S&K acquisition.

I broke a 3/8"breaker bar years ago as a teenager (61 now), I sent the pieces to them about a year ago, they sent me a brand new "modern" replacement free of charge.

The bigger one is a Stanley. The smaller one only says made in USA

Here are better pictures

This block plane says c-255 on it. Google tells me it's a Stanley.

Nothing yet again for me. Had to resort to buying stuff at the store yesterday

Jakemac: love that Pats rug! I would have been all over that. And i hear you about the seats, I so wanted to buy one when they sold off the Montreal Forum seats years ago but I was only 10-12 and it wasn't happening. Of course prices for them now are even higher.

Went to a antique tool swapmeet this morning and picked up a couple of things. a52871411f4fd6d8df1e2f34b735b5be.jpgb7eff4837de425d25712d482ea8a063c.jpg6ba6b709191b1c556ec6cf8c5a07d989.jpgd2acf161f4367e6f444849de50be260c.jpg

Love those mini anvils!!

Merc and I hit the auction today but we got blasted out the water on everything but this medical cabinet I picked up and the plotter thing to the right of it that they combined in the lot for $30. The medical cab is electronically locked, I'll need to take it apart to get it to open. Probably put it in the living room and make a book case or media center/knick knack cabinet out of it. The plotter thingy is scrap.

The rolling cart that has the plotter on it looks like it could be repurposed.

I've long felt that Husky is the red-headed stepchild of the New Britain family of brands (New Britain, NONE BETTER), even with the extended family third cousins (Craftsman BE and Circle-H) added in. Well, I finally ran into a fairly complete Husky set that I could not refuse today. I’ve found a lot of individual Husky pieces over the years, in onesy-twosies, mainly sockets, but I’ve never seen the ratchet or extensions in the wild, much less a near-complete set.

Based on the long selector switch, this is probably late 1930's, but NLT 1940.

20170311_101219_zpsohunhyq8.jpg

20170311_101234_zps7xmuqrri.jpg

The ratchet (H4725), extensions (H2711-10”, H2712-6”), sliding tee (H3884), and nine (9) sockets (7/16”, 1/2, 19/32, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 25/32, 13/16, and 7/8) are Husky.

I’ll be on the look out for the missing 9/16!

One thing I never noticed before is the weird Husky model numbering scheme on the sockets. New Britain and NONE BETTER go from NT- or T-1214 (7/16) to NT- or T-1240 (1-1/4) in sequence. The /32nds sockets are -1219, -1225, and -1231. Husky starts at H2700 (7/16) and counts up in increments for every 1/16th of an inch. So H2701 is 1/2. H2702 is 9/16. H2703 is 5/8, and so on. Which means the /32nds would be out in the cold without a whole number digit (similar to the issue with Snap-On’s scheme). The /32nds are 2844 (19/32), 2845 (25/32), and 2902 (31/32). The 1 through 1-1/8 sockets are 2846-48.

Lugnutz, I just grabbed a 1 1/8, 1 1/4, and a 1" Husky from just a bit later, but still knurled on the bottom today. Wierd coincidence. Doesn't seem like your box could hold them based on the edge lines.

Nines, when I did inside logistics, they had cabinets like that for the comps that controlled the sort system, keeping dust out. Be good in the shop to keep the systems clean.

I'm already ahead of you! The first thing I said to Merc when I won was I could repurpose the stand into a welding cart pretty easily. That rectangle tubing is perfect. :rocker:

We also had a running joke of the day, he joked that everything I looked at I thought had a VFD or servo motors in it. Well, nothing there had a VFD but both of these have servo motors, tiny as they are.

That is weird.

I'm certain that this box was meant to hold 10 sockets and that only the 9/16" socket is missing from this set.

The 1938 Husky catalog actually shows a very similar set, in the same exact case, with a ratchet, the two extensions, but no sliding tee, and 12 sockets. The ratchet and extensions are out of the box in the picture. The same 10 sockets are shown tucked into their tray with no room for any other sockets. And the two additional sockets - a 15/16" and a 1" - are placed in the main compartment.

I experimented with my set by removing the sliding tee and adding a New Britain-made Craftsman BE 15/16" and 1" socket. They will fit, but not without careful maneuvering.

So I had another $20 week. The pipe clamps were a dollar each, unmounted, and then I found some tubing later on that fit. The Craftsman vise-grip and Proto hacksaw were each $2, the planer attachment for the RAS was $2, and the rest was various unmarked things. The impacts are a Duro-Indestro and a Proto, the sockets are Husky and one CM =V=, all the wrenches are SK (IIRC, they were $4 total), the saw is a Crowntop Craftsman. All the Woodsmiths were free. When did Husky switch from the underlined Y to regular? Also got a wall mounted sheet metal hose holder (not pictured). Wife found a oil painting she liked of a Magnolia, and a salt glazed jar.

After the auction, we went back to the never ending garage sale for some more digging. Here is the shed where Merc found the Belsaw last week. The light in the center is his headlamp in that first pic.

Lots of driving around over the last few days, so I hit an Estate sales, thrift stores, used tool shops and junk shops, picking up the following:

First estate sale, guy was technical but loved Stanley. Push drill with all the bits (unused) fluids and usables, a Williams wrench, what I thought was a cleaning rod, a cool set of fuse failure brochures and a Stanley claw hammer. The drivers came from the restore, an Irwin shorty and a Proto that needs a new blade. $10.00 for all.

Couple different thrifts, books for $2.50 each and an old reel for $3.

Estate sale this AM, all for $5 the dividers are PS&W.

Used tool shop, paid $14 for everything, Cornwell extension, unused Irwin drivers, Williams rat, various sockets, a Snap On thingy (drain pan screws) and a Schrader valve inflator. Shops owners mom also gave me a piece of German chocolate cake (mmm breakfast.)

Different Restore and a couple junk shops. The driver is a Plomb (needs blade work), the mechs were a buck each and Herbrand and Proto LA sockets. Last is a Indestro 1/2 socket set that is incomplete that I picked up at the last junk shop. The place was crazy, probably 100 junk lawn tractors out front, from JD to Yard Horse. Also a small cudy sailboat. The owner was 83, had been an appliance and small motor mechanic and was selling off a lifetimes work. Cool stuff everywhere. When I went to pay him, he said he didn't have change and to just come back sometime and pay. And I will, while looking at more cool stuff.

The plotter probably has perfectly good stepper motors and precision shafts inside. Is it an HP?

I picked up some heavy I beams for a project and an intake to flip. I paid dearly, almost as much as the two previous times combined.

Sorry, It's actually not a plotter, turns out it is a Pitney Bowes form separator though I'm sure there are some nice heavy shafts and steppers or servos in there to run them. There's even a speed pot on the control panel by the on/off.

I would have bought the Thorsen set just for the hot rod picture! I'm no expert on Thorsen but that looks like 1960's to me. No zip code so it might be pre-1963.

Nine and Merc,
Exactly, my thoughts too. I read the post see you both diving into a shed full to the top with junk. Just like the Pickers you announce some fantastic find way in back and then we go to a commercial break. But wait, we never came back and saw the results.

Found two good auctions with lots of tools today... Both start at same time...Each is in an opposite direction... lol...

Easy decision though, I'm going to the one with the old CMan Block Grinder!

Assuming the weather clears up some in the next couple hours...

Wish me luck! Hopefully this evening I will be bringing home a truckload of old CMan stuff...

Merc: I was wondering how NINES did a selfie of his **** from that far away. i thought maybe that was you taking a picture of him. next time i think you two should take a video of your day's picking adventures and maybe call it GJ PICKING LA STYLE. BTW nice picture and maybe you need to find a belt or eat more, but won't be my screensaver so i can avoid paying any ROYALTIES!!

Always go with a defined bid list and a firm max for each item...

Yep, that's how I am... I write a firm price on each item I want and stick to it... There is *always* another one out there (at least for things I want)...

You never know, sometimes when the weather is crappy like it is today, and the time change... People stay home and you can get good deals. Or everyone thinks that, goes to the place, and bids the snot out of everything...

Found a second-day sale kinda on the way into the office today. It was a town home and attached garage full of mostly junk. There were boxes of stuff that seemed to be clean up from different projects, with enough partial boxes of nails and screws, and cheap hand tools to outfit a hardware store. I picked through the garage and basement, leaving a lot of piles undisturbed, passing on some rusty junk but picking up other unusual pieces. I think I found enough to cover my expenses. I was given a price of $25, but he accepted $20. Probably could have gone lower, but nature was calling and I, well, I had to go!

99b25e2e4e4a90796635f1ca496557b8.jpg

Pair of Walworth 18" Stillson pipe wrenches, one with quite a bit of original red paint still on the handle
McKenney Mfg Number 0 compound lopper--kinda weird, the compound side doesn't seem to offer much mechanical advantage and I'm not sure what the little knubs are on the hand grips

6731105b5880a25da5108bf17a988fd3.jpg

Two pair of rusty giant scissors that seem to have some life left in them
Duro-Chrome Super Quality angled DBE, 3/4"x 7/8"
Two valve spring tools, one a K&D--I thought they were both compressors, but their mechanical action locks the jaws open as the handles are squeezed together, making these expanders, not compressors. Any ideas on applications?

Reed 2-71 ratcheting reamer, for up to 2" pipes

Nice little Stevens Walden metal socket box, with the hinge on the narrow end. Very dirty, but looks like it was painted white over the original green.

The rest of the junk was:
Milwaukee Sawzall blade
Exterior deck screws
Antique hand loppers
No-name ratcheting T brace, missing part of one handle
Tiny Pexto monkey wrench
Ratcheting DBE, probably Chinese
Rusty knurling clamp tool
Partial WD-40 can
Lubriko brand bearing grease--cool product labeling was the only reason I grabbed it
Stainless tub to carry it all in

Good weekend here first got the 1/2" S&K set and just picked up a SO KRA-63A off of CL for 60.00. It is in great condition with just a few pieces of masking tape to remove. Perfect fit the the MAC bottom box i got a week ago.

That's the earliest dated Crown Top we know of so far right?
