jakemac - I got all of that over the last two weekends, there is no way I could have done that in a day because I had to be thorough.

Also, I have so much Indestro this weekend. Does anyone know why Indestro didn't mark their wrenches sometimes with anything except a model number? Does that designate a factory third quality wrench or something? I know Super is high end and Indestro / Select Steel are middle to economy grade. I just looked up if they later dropped Super Indestro and found out Chromium Vanadium sockets with no COO are Indestro. That means I missed out on a lot of sockets. I didn't do my research very well and left Duro-Chrome too.

I found something really weird among all the S-K sockets at one place. There was a socket that looked identical to an S-K socket except it said "SEK" and listed Japan. I thought I had it in my bag at one of the sales but I guess I didn't. I think it even had the same model code as the same sized S-K by it.

Drives I think you may be the king of cabinets. That rotobin, awesome. Can't believe how heavy it is!

duddly nice box although I can't help with paint removal. Love the book case! I have been wanting to gather some but they are always priced sky high at sales. Still regretting not grabbing a steel one that was slightly rusty in a garage. That could have been remedied. Your case was free, amazing!

dngrmse- Wow that looks like the industrial sale of sales. Must be an industrial collector/hoarder.

Glad to see you guys are doing so well! I almost got skunked today. I paid A Quarter for a few lbs of mild steel gas welding rod, and that was it!

Duck, that's a cool idea for a book rack!

It's about to become a really nice fifty dollar book rack with an adjustable center and end.
The tool rest for wood is missing, but the holder is there. I haven't the slightest use for turned wood.
I do need a book rack, and it's a nondestructive project in case someone here may one day need the ways or head.

This is what I picked up last Sunday, now I've got my personal Ltop back on speaking terms:

Two Coleman Lanterns: a very nice 1947 242C (green), and most of a 243A from 1941 (Blue). Original globes; I just need to get the tin can out of the 243A Globe, as its wedged in the globe... :( It needs a replacement vent and a bail (Same bail as the 242 uses...)

attachment.php

I also got this very clean Coleman 417B stove from 1940-43. The check valve under the pump needs cleaned/replaced, and someone repainted inside the box, but Its pretty nice!

The brass one burner is a Kerosene burning Aida No. 100, from Germany. my second; The other is NOS, this one has been burned once or twice...

attachment.php

And I also picked up this over-sized tank (the back copper painted one, the front one is for the 417B) from an early (3 burner?) Coleman stove (I have not ID'd what yet...). It holds 2 quarts vs, the standard size of one quart or less. If I could pick up a second one this size, I'd set them up as a refueling station for while I'm on a trip!

These were all from a Scout troop that is converting to Propane. Not a steal, but not bad at $90! I was surprised at the good condition as I've seen Scout gear that was beat to death.

Paltry flea market haul from yesterday.

20170317_185412_zpsdglk4uv7.jpg

A pearlitic deep-throat CRAFTSMAN C-clamp, a Williams No. 27 (5/8”) weldless eye bolt, offset screwdriver (8 x 3/8), blonde-handled Stanley Phillips No. 2, pre-war Herbrand script logo “VAN CHROME” 1731-A, and some dwarf DBE’s, including three (3) Vlchek WBC1214’s (3/8 x 7/16), and two (2) Plomb WF-81’s (9/16 x 1/2) with a near-white phosphate finish.

Went back today for the removeable tote tray inside this hip roof box. I already have a wartime version in mint condition with a leather handle, and I didn’t feel like dealing with the rust or the constellation of holes in the lids….

…but mine doesn’t have the top tray. I was going to try to talk the guy out of just the tray, but he wasn’t there.

Started this morning with my little 2 yr old daughter come running into my bedroom to wake us up! Laid in bed for a little bit before it was time to get up and get the wife and middle child off to clarinet lesson. Wife took the baby and the older child stayed home while I went to the landscape place to get a load of 2B gravel for a project around the house. When I got there I discovered the place was not open on the weekend yet and will have to go during lunch time to get the gravel.

So I started heading home but remember a garage sale that was taking place in town. So I looked it up again on the phone and thought why not. Drove over to the street to look for a sign and there was no sign on the side of the rod! At first I thought they must of cancelled it. Looked up the ad again and found the house number, backed up some and sure enough there was a house with the garage door open. I thought well this is weird and there was no other car around.

So I got out and walked in to find a door with a sign saying garage sale. I knocked and a older fella answered and said come on in!

Apparently I was the second person there and the sale has been open for an hour.

I looked around and instantly spotted the tackle boxes and thought of Outlaws score of snapon tools! Well I didn't have the same luck but there was a lot of old lures and some new in the box with a bunch of hooks and weights so I asked how much for the lot and he said $30 for all of it. Said I'll take them and kept looking, found a plane with the underlined Craftsman logo and he goes $5, and just as I said I'll take it I spotted the crack in the sole, :( then he saw my disappointment and said you know what it's part of the lure lot go ahead and take it for parts!

Then I found these boots and would you know it they were my size 13, he said he only wore them once and it shows and he was asking for $15 for the pair so I took them to replace my blown out pairs for hunting. Late I found out the boots are $150 new and these appear to be very new.

Then I spotted another box of lure and he tallied me up for $55 for all of it.

So I feel like I got a good deal and was happy with it all!

drives: I'm digging that wood cabinet. Nice patina with an all-business look to it. That will have a hundred and one uses.

duddly: Love that barrister bookcase. And for free? You **** for sure. Bonus points for turning a profit on the unit it replaced.

Outlaw: Have you hacked some secret government surveillance system that helps you find these amazing vintage camp gear treasures?

Nothing much shaking in Tulsa today (that interested me, anyway).

My original plan for this morning was to go to what I already knew would be a disappointing yard sale in an area I hate to drive to. Fortunately I got a PM from Bobcat753 last night about the woodshop sale over in his area.

I didn't expect to buy anything, but I was glad I went. The shop was small, but it was packed with some really well cared for vintage machines. Delta, Shopmaster, Craftsman, and Rockewell (real Rockwell, not Delta/HomeCraft). It was a pleasure just to be able to touch and get a good look at them. The bigger the machine, the bigger the price. Good thing I already had most of the machines I need. It would have been tempting to spend the money. No abuse and everything was ready to be put to work.

No handtools to peruse, but it was still a nice diversion to get out of the house and meet up with Bobcat again.
Too bad Bluebomber was MIA. :ninja:

I was able to grab a nice Eagle desk lamp for $10. It needs a new cord, but otherwise in great shape once the sawdust is wiped off. (pic 1)

100_2430.jpg

On the way home I made a cigarette run and grabbed breakfast at McD's while I waited for the Restore to open. I figured the good stuff would be gone this late in the week, but was still able to score a few goodies.

Pic 2 ($12.25) :
adjustment wheel 4-1/2"dia. 1/2"arbor
Bonney #1224 3/4" wrench
Proto #215 brake spring plier
Dasco #406 5-8" cold chisel
EasyRead controller (air/water ???)
SnapOn OEX14 7/16" combo wrench (no date code)

100_2431.jpg

Pics 3-7 ($25) :
Craftsman Crowntop 3-drawer radial arm saw stand. (from model 113.29003 saw) w/key.
(The drawer slides need a little tweaking and a few dings need to be undinged)
I didn't notice that the bottom back had been cut out for a baseboard radiator until I was loading it. :( But that's ok. It will be built into a bench to be used for my Porter Cable sliding compound miter and won't be seen.
(I think I've finally convinced myself not to use my grandfather's RAS, the PC will be more useful to me)

I knew there was going to be an estate sale today with a bunch of old Craftsman woodworking tools in pristine shape. Figured prices would be high on everything so I wasn't really in a rush to get there especially because it was so far away.

I got there I think about 9am and immediately walked around back figuring the shop had to be on the backside, which I was right.

Looked like quite a few things already sold from the pictures, but still a heck of a lot of things still there. I was right, the prices for the Craftsman belt sander, table saw, shaper, etc, etc... They were high compared to what you usually find, but still most were fair and still a decent deal *if* you needed one.

Only thing that really caught my eye was the drill press, but it was $200 and the lowest speed IIRC was 350 RPM. If I'm going to sink money into a press I might as well just wait to find one with lower speeds that I really want.

The Delta cabinet saw sold for $1,800, plus I think the table extension was another $250... Guy that bought it already had one just like it, he wanted a second..

Also really interesting that I've never seen before was a Craftsman electronic table saw. Apparently you can just punch in a number for the saw height & bevel angle. There's a video on youtube I just watched.

Here are some pics of things I did NOT buy. FYI, those prices don't include any tooling / blades / whatever... Just the machine & manual... Though the tooling was pretty cheap (if it wasn't already sold).

Even all the stands the CMan stuff was on was also CMan, even the caster sets on them were CMan brand! Too bad SYW wasn't around when he bought all these... lol.

Now for the stuff I DID buy... I spent about $100 total...

First is the resin storage closet or whatever you want to call it... For $20 I figured I could move a few lawn things out of my garage into it and keep them out of the weather.

The blue bins are BIG and stackable, these are just what I needed to put my sockets in. I paid $2/ea (or $20 total) for them...

Now for all the little stuff...

He had a bunch of CMan 10" Kromedge blades of different types. I got a fine tooth one for a nice finish cut on veneer / plywood for $6... There were unopened ones for $16, but this one was still nice and sharp and looked barely used.

Metal CMan dowling jig (USA), I think it was $3.00, a general brand small diameter pipe bender (been needing one of those!). What looks like probably 80's vintage Craftsman grinding wheel dressing stick. Never seen one that style but for the price I figured why not. Miter Vise will go well with my radial arm saw.

I also bought a box for $2.50 that had the planer guard for my radial arm saw (no planer blade though, but I found one of CL I need to contact). Wrench for saw too, little clamps were in the box too, and a few other misc stuff...

New in package (china though) Craftsman clamps! That's just crazy! Power-Kraft adjustable square. A baggie full of Xacto blades, loctite, and a couple other things was $2.50. I needed the 1" CMan combo wrench, I wasn't sure if I was looking for a 7/8" or not so I just grabbed it even though price was kind of high. Oh and some router bushings for $1.

Finally a near old Sears lantern. Pretty sure made by Coleman. Even had a baggie (in the $2.50 box) of some new vintage bernzomatic mantles. lol

Oh yeah, I made a walk through the house just kind of browsing everything else, nothing caught my eye... Totally FORGOT to go in the garage!!! ARGH!!!

WG, I'm not so sure that's a stove tank. Can you shoot better pics of the valve area? It looks like it dispenses through a rubber hose?

It also has marks from straps which indicates possibly a more permanent installation?

I'm thinking a small motor tank for where the tank needed to be below the carb (hence the pump)

Does it have a fuel or an oil smell inside? it could also be an oilier feed for something?

Another possibility is a tank for an early dragster?

How many gallons? maybe 1-1/2 to 2?

My nine dollar restore and scrap yard score:

$8 for the Luxo lamp and Hazet DOE at the restore, $1 for the Bonney offset driver and grinding wheel dresser at the scrap yard. Anyone know a good place for dresser wheels?

One decent garage sale score today, Tru Test 1/2" drive socket set. Great condition and contains all the right sockets except for the spark plug socket which is a master mechanic socket.

Totally forgot the best part about the estate sale. There was this old man that was managing the shop area. I was talking to him and find out he used to work at the factory back when it was Moore Drop Forging (way back in the day)! He setup their screw machines and trained operators, also managed the grinding machines, among other things.

Funny thing, he said in order to prevent stopping production he would dress the wheels while the line was going, but since that would shrink the wheels the parts would be oversized until things got dialed back in. His solution was to take the parts as he was doing that and have them in a bucket, then just dump them back at the start of the processes to be re-run though... What I couldn't figure out (and didn't ask) was if the parts had to be re-run, how is that saving time vs just stopping the line, making the adjustment, then starting the feed back up? lol... I'm sure he had his reasons though...

Seems that old factory employed a lot of people in this town, until Danaher / Apex / whoever shut it down...

Tru-Test was a brand name owned by Cotter & Co, who eventually changed their name to True Value and later branded their hand tools as Master Mechanic.

(This history lesson was brought to you by the tired mind of a former True Value employee........) :lol_hitti

Let's see the rest of that Luxo! I have several Dazors and at least one Luxo. I have a think for old desk/work lamps.

BMW: nice old grinder wheel dresser and i think i might have 20 of them stuffed around my place by now. they look cool but these diamond dressers really spiff up a stone on your bench grinders much better. here's a couple examples.

ALL: also for you guys that buy old grinders and just plug them in pay attention to the stones cause if they might have a hairline crack or they were stored in damp areas they could explode and hurt and even KILL YOU. Torqueman2002 i think replaces all his stones and I think a lot of other guys do too so BEE CAREFUL. check out the grinder safety 101 thread, Safety 101 thread or i think the Craftsman block grinder thread has a lot of the safety tips too.

for those of you that need to move heavy stuff by yourself this might help you. i bought this little flatbed trailer last year and i just tipped up this 500 pound ADDRESSOGRAPH cabinet on it and tipped it off into my storage unit. i bet the cabinet might weigh close to 400 pounds after all 133 drawers are taken out. not super easy, but doable and i'm a bit sore today. i think from bringing the white flat file off a shelf 6 feet up in the air and putting it on top of some other big flat files might have made me more sore. the white flat file is 53x41x16 and even with the drawers out it's not light or easy to move around.

hope you all find some cool stuff today and i don't have cabinets to look at today, but i might have something a bit more interesting. I can hardly wait to start filling up the drawers and getting my stuff out of bins, buckets and shelves.

cheers

Just some really fantastic stuff guys!!! It's still winter and you guys are making it look easy!!.

I hit two sales on Friday . The first was a really cool one and the second one was already picked from the morning but manages a few dollar items including 3 pair of Klein's for a buck each. 1940, 1962 & 1986 are the date codes if I'm reading them right. One has a curious feature I'm not sure if it's a factory mod or not.

I got to the first sale 3 hours early and man did it payoff. I was first by 5 minutes and was able to pull the tag off of a cabinet that I had plans of using in my shop. It was all brass and aluminum construction and had a price of 75 bucks. Before the sale started I was talked out of it ... A guy offered me 100.00 just to buy the tag from me... Well as much as I liked the cabinet I had to take his offer. I was sure how I was going to be able to load it any way with my broken back.

I spent 175 at this sale and 40 at the second for 215 total - the 100 I made on the cabinet the day cost me 115. Another great thing about showing up early was I was able to chat it up with a couple of ladies! One really sweet one felt sorry for me and my present condition and offered to carry my "stuff" for me! She actually did it! And helped me load it all up! The only thing she bought her self was a wooden stool so I gladly paid the $10 price tag on that and she was as thankful as I was... We traded #'s !

I bought one item just because I didn't know what it was. It's made by Sioux and it looks like some sort of an attachment . Probably a seldom used item that was tossed in a drawer with the all the missing pipe jaws and stray socks...:p It has 3 different settings and a cutter like a pipe cutter. ???

It's going to take a couple post to show some picks but here's the cabinet, the Klein's, the mystery Sioux item and a curious modified pair of vise grips. These look to have been remanufacture by another company for a special purpose. No clOO on these either :dunno: Also one cool old rake!!!

Here's more pic's. The first ones are of the cabinet or locker that I sold at the sale. Looks like it came from a ship or air port or something of that nature.

I also picked up several axes(Shapleigh's Diamond Edge) and hatchets(plumb BSA) lots of adjustable wrench's including one double ended one( needs work though) Reed pipe cutter, GTD T&D set in wooded box. American scale screw jacks, Chisels, old wrench sets, a fine wooden wall mount cabinet, A very old claw hammer marked Philadelphia cast steel. It has straps that go through the eye and pin to the handle. I've seen these on line before but the first I've owned! Also picked a pair of vises ( simplex 318) and a wing nut clamp , set of 3 machinist bottle jacks- these were in a Kennedy machinist box I bought at the first sale that had lots of goodies inside like 3 mic's, calipers, Starrett straight edge, Parallels, files, stones, pair of Helios squares, a Mitutoyo combo square and a pair of starrett pin punches.

It was a fun day and I'm already looking forward to next week like I'm sure every one else here is as well! Every weekend is a new adventure with new finds and new women!!!

It's been awhile since I came home with one item.

BUDD 18806 wheel nut wrench. These were used on big wartime trucks, such as the Chevy 1.5, GMC 2.5, and Studebaker US6.

I used one very similar for years in the military. Changed hundreds of tires with hammers, spoons and wedges

for those of you that need to move heavy stuff by yourself this might help you. i bought this little flatbed trailer last year and i just tipped up this 500 pound ADDRESSOGRAPH cabinet on it and tipped it off into my storage unit. i bet the cabinet might weigh close to 400 pounds after all 133 drawers are taken out. not super easy, but doable and i'm a bit sore today. i think from bringing the white flat file off a shelf 6 feet up in the air and putting it on top of some other big flat files might have made me more sore. the white flat file is 53x41x16 and even with the drawers out it's not light or easy to move around.

cheers

Nice little trailer Drives. I have one similar and made it cheap from an old pop up camper. The camper frames are low to the ground, have a lot of extra cross bracing because they were supporting a camper floor and can be found cheap. I found mine with the camper part already removed for $50 but if you are out hitting sales and want an easy trailer project look for an old pop up that may be free or very cheap. Junk the camper shell, add fenders a deck and lights and you have something low to the ground for easy loading and unloading. Pulls like nothing empty and can carry significant weight.
I've even found it was handy to use the fold down camper stabilization legs when loading and unloading.

It definitely gets harder to lift things up into the back of my truck as I get older. Gotta find ways to use gravity and leverage to our benefit and save the back muscles but still have fun bringing home those sale treasures.

Wow, you guys are still making great hauls. I've kept buying neat tools all along, I suppose, but I've gotten too lazy lately to post pics. Maybe I'll start back up again. I enjoy reading and seeing photos from your treasure hauls.

Cheers!
