People who has experience with the Craftsman Alien head planer, how useful are they? Can blades be obtained for them if needed? Someone has one on Craigslist for $125 and I'm interested cause it has the heritage badge that match some of my tools and box, but I don't want to get it if I can't use it.

I don't know about parts and blades. But you could point out that it was only $89.99 brand new.

Fair enough. A quick google search reveals that you can get blades and assorted restoration items. I would try to get it for under a Benjamin but I'm cheap. If you buy it post it up for all to see

The blades are a standard size, just match the measurements and you should be good to go.

I had a strange free find at the curb this week.

The other night I was driving home and saw what looked like a Kennedy box at the curb with the back facing the street. I said it's either a Kennedy or some old luggage so I hit the brakes and backed up.

Well, turns out it was a Kennedy with the top popped open. Full of junk electrical parts, gang boxes and such, rusty hardware and some car parts. A couple scrap poles underneath in the grass. It looked like it was put there for the scrap guys and they missed it.

I almost left it because it got wet in the rain, the box was beat up with the hinge rusted up, AND the biggie, it was in front of an old girlfriend's house so I felt a bit like a creep. I haven't hit the brakes by that house in over 10 years and didn't want to get caught dead out there. I think her landlord must have thrown it out there.

Well, I started digging in the dark and it paid off. In the bottom drawer there was a Snap On TMX140 14" long 1/4" drive extension . I decided to throw the box in the back and take it all home. There was also a cheap torx socket, a Johnson **** gauge, and a CAL Van Ford tensioner wrench. All a little rusty but usable. The box is junk, worth maybe a few bucks at the flea unless the drawers have value.

I guess it pays to cruise pay the ex's once in a while. Too funny though because I just got that other Kennedy from my girl's father.

Add that one to my list of strange stories I guess.

Agreed with the others, takes 6" jointer blades. Make sure the anti kickbacks are there under the wings, the guide is in the table, and the handles aren't broken/stripped. Some people will try and raise lower the center without realizing the side bolts lock the elevator. I paid $25 and 30 respectively for mine, pre-restored. Also the front cap with the Long C tends to get lost/broken.

Not yet. All the hardware was there. And I mean every square nut, bolt, pin and strap. Now I'm just waiting to find some wood that has some decent old stencil ads from relatively the same period so I can complete it.

Crazy day today. Picked up these beauties. Happy with the 3 hp leeson I got for $25.

I have the same (basically) flat stone grinder but with the woodcraft name on it. I work it almost to death and it still performs.

ALL: not sure if any of you have run across one of these old farm or lumberyard carts that are a bit bigger than Swing's cart he found, but i found a couple about 2 years apart but in same area of the state and they are keepers.

i've actually had 2000 pounds of weight plates on this yellow one and moved it with very little if any effort over a smooth warehouse floor, but i've also had 1000-1500 pounds on it moving it over bumps and lips on concrete.

I just got back from a 11 hour drive (8.5 hours of actual driving) to pick up this Reed 106 and a few odds and ends. that old trunk is full of sandpaper, buffing wheels and deburring wheels that i didn't know i needed when just picking up the vise.

Lugz- Got delayed on the hammers but checked them over and turns out 4 are Blue Point. BF-606,BF-608,BF-610,BF-612. They say A Snap-on PRODUCT on the handles. No date codes.

Just one is Snap On on the head, BF-611 with a diamond symbol date code. 1980 looks like.

The other is Bonney.

Ahh....I see. Yes, I have the dimensions. And found one documented restoration. Thankfully the raised lettering and some searching paid off. Originally I thought about using the wheels as a set of bench casters for a new workbench I recently built but couldn't bring myself to do that since it was so complete. Wheels and casters are easy to come by around me. I have been given two sets that I can remember. Gave one away to a guy building a cart for hit n' miss engines

Two stops this morning after putting my nephew on the bus.
Got to the first one 30min after it opened. Not sure what I missed, but the only thing worth getting was a 1/2dr socket kit from the garage. I had to pay $15 for it.

The only reason I bought it was because of the unusual ratchet and the whatzit. Curiosity kills my wallet.


The second sale was a bust, but they did have an interesting old bandsaw with the shiny radial wheel cover, like on the front of a Dobro guitar. I just didn't need another project in my shop right now, so I left it behind. It will haunt me, but I'll have to learn to live with it.


After I got home, I made a call on a CL item. The seller called back 2hrs later and we made arrangements.
Time to dig the trailer out of the backyard .............

Went to meet FL member Emeraldcoupe today. And pick up a wonderful Atlas dp. Only picture so far is before we lifted it off his bench. This thing is beautiful original condition and has the table lift.

So, here's the CL find on the trailer. Cost me $250.

2 sections of pipe staging.
a 5' and a 6' section
includes crossbars, 3 platforms, 4 wheels, and 4 pins



This set spent it's whole life on indoor jobs doing commercial drywall and plaster.
Those days are over.

Now I just need a few more sections, a set of leveling feet, outriggers, handrails, a lift crane .....

Yeah some old engines had those two divots in the valve top, and that widget engages those.

I would say more for lapping than grinding.
