2017 Garage Sale Thread

Of the hundreds and hundreds of wrenches I have come across and the dozens and dozens that I have bought, I have only come across 3 of these wrenches. One 17x19 and now two 10x14s. The 10x14 is apparently the rarer of the two and go for $200-$300. I THINK this is due to collectors that have restored old Porsches and want a complete toolkit that is original to these cars. You should see what those old blue wood handle Hazet screwdrivers go for!



The key is that in the Hazet logo there is a small "a" rather than a large "A". The small "a" indicating a much older wrench. The underline is important too, the older wrenches having an elongated "L" underline.



There was no rhyme or reason as to what type of estate sales had these wrenches. I can only guess that the guys probably had old Porsches at one time or another and after the car was no longer, they kept the toolkit and tossed it in the garage with the rest of their tools.

Maybe it's just me but I see a bunch of hazet tools for sale but NOTHING when I search for sold items. Maybe it's just me??

Picked up a wooden leg tripod with steel spikes. Don't know anything about it other that it has a few makers marks but I haven't found anything for all my searching. Anyone able to help?

A Cen-Pe-Co 55 gallon drum - cut the lid out and should make a nice trash can for the shop.

Just left a sale about 5 min ago. Was closing at 4pm on day 1. It was already picked over but I spotted a screwdriver and pair of nippers and a ratchet screw driver I figured I should take home. Total would have been about $15. Gal working the sale tells me $12 and I tried to correct her but then she says, "nope, you are going to help me! You have to take those crates home with you!". Apparently they never got around to going through them before they opened the sale so only God knows what I am hauling home!

lol I guess if there are 1 or 2 cool things in there I'll be excited. They are heavy though.

Hit up a few sales this past weekend. I learned a lesson though, you can't judge a yard sale by what they have by the street. The first 2 pics are from that sale. Nothing good by the street but I went and checked anyway. I saw some power tools on a table in the garage where they had other items. I walked over and under the table was some bins. Everything but the SK set was in one bin and it was marked $.75. I looked in there and saw the SK sockets, snap-on sockets and SK wrenches. I grabbed the whole bin and asked for a price on the whole thing and was told 10 bucks. Once I got it home and looked at it there's a little junk but everything else is snap-on, SK, a Bonney socket and craftsman USA. I got the SK set for $7. It's almost complete but in great condition.

The other pics are from a different sale. Paid 10 for the Craftsman grinder. It looks like the original wheels are on it. 3 bucks for stuff in the other picture. The sockets are an almost complete set of 3/8 drive Blackhawk. That's a 1/2 in drive Bonney extension and an SK wrench.

So 30 bucks total.

Went out to a few yard sales today, buying a mixed five piece set of carving tools.

Pic 1--The three grouped together are all by S. J. Addis, with only two of three having same wooden handle. The one on far left in that group of three is #3 and marked England. The middle one is #39 and also marked England. The third one in this group with different style handle had no number and is marked London.

The two grouped together on the other side of Pic 1 are marked. The small one on the right in the group of 2 is marked J. Cam for James Cam of England. The larger one on the left in the group of two is one I haven't figured out the name. So shot some individual pics of it in Pic 2, 3 and 4 that shows close up of tool, along with name on one side of tang and logo's on other.

Any help on that maker name would be appreciated.

Last pic is from last Sunday, where picked up a Stanley #80 cabinet scraper only to find brazing while cleaning it up. Other items in pic are the 4 step pulley, Craftsman feeler gauge set and a pocket hole starter with bits inside.

I had a good two days of wheeling and dealing, first picked up the RGC Pro Lift for $50, plan to get it running and flip it for a good profit. Next spent today selling a Husqvarna lawn mower I got for free for $120, then headed off to Manchester to meet up with a guy, he collects good junk(anvils,vises,etc), and bought an old dump truck wheel to use as a fire pit ring. After that I headed up to Barrington to supposedly buy a used utility trailer from a dealer but did that for nothing as the ****** sold it yesterday( Had told him to mark it sold as I would be there today to get it). Then took the LONG way home and stopped at a pawn shop in Plaistow and walked out $100 poorer and carrying this Stihl TS760. Got home and tore into it and now it runs perfectly. Just need to give it a bath and buy a blade for it.

While you were in the area, you could have stopped in at 125Tools (next to the Adult bookstore). About a 1/2mile north.

Went to several estate sales yesterday, prices were high as usual. But driving between them saw a could GS signs that weren't advertised online (always the best ones).

One estate sale had alot Wards / Powr-Kraft stuff, but prices too high, planning on going back on 1/2 price day. Did find a Snap-on 13mm combo wrench for $1, big blue-point DBE for $2, and a vintage Snap-On diagonal cutters for $2. A vintage Craftsman socket set for $20.

Garage sale people were a hoot yesterday, a lot of old people doing their spring cleaning I guess. Found a p-touch labeler for $1, some kitchen items for .50 each, some free chain link fence, a NIB coleman double burner camp stove with 5 bottles of propane for $25, and an old craftsman crowntop toolbox with a mix of tools for $25 (a little high but I feel it all evened out in the end).

Mr. P- I used to collect those old handle Craftsman drivers. They are hard to find in nice condition. Usually the name is worn off, the tip beat up or re-sharped by a past user.

Scored this '64 vintage delta drill press and matching stand off craigslist last night. It is in very good shape! As I was loading it up, the old man said that there were so many people calling about it he was getting tired of answering the phone [emoji38]
That made the deal even sweeter !

I screwed up but I ended up recovering on this one.

A local auction company was having a farm auction about a week ago. I found out they were hosting it online as well. I decided to watch it and got a little excited... ended up purchasing a 2006 Bobcat t180, sight unseen....
Got there and paid for it, still haven't seen it at this point.
Dang thing wouldn't start, had to have them forklift it on the trailer. I was a little scared at this point since that's a good chunk of money for me.



Got it back home and charged the battery and got it to start with starting fluid. Doesn't smoke, runs pretty good.


Since I already had two other bobcats at this point, I decided to try and get rid of this one and just learn my lesson to stay away from auctions, atleast online sight unseen auctions.

Wound up selling it yesterday for $1000 more than I paid so it all seemed to work out decent. Yes the buyer was aware of the starting problem.

Snap On Master puller set, cj2000, complete set with board. No cabinet though. I paid $900 for it. Also got some feeler gauges for $30.
