Smokeshow69--That is a well cared for Delta drill press you picked up. Congrats.

Waggoner72--Glad that the Bobcat worked out and the profit made a nice buy on those Snap On Master puller set with board.

No big buys for me today, but picked up the following:

Pic 1--Chisel with missing wood handle, Machinist adjustable jack, gimlet hole starter

Pic 2-5--Littlestown #450 Vise

Between the 3 sales I have $21 invested. We had to dig awhile to find the one drill bit that wasn't in the box.I believe the rest have never been out of the box.We were unsuccessful at finding the blue plastic cap.

Hit an estate sale in a trailer park today, but the listed tools in bold letters, so I had no choice:

Couple speeders (Proto LA $1, Craftsman BE $2) Craftsman gimlet for a quarter, no name bevel gauge for .50, Craftsman countersink set $1, two boxes of .25-35 for $14 (gonna put those on gunbroker to flip) piece of all thread and this no. 10 can marked $2

I can never resist something like this Whats in there? well, this was what was in there:

The tap wrench is Starrett, couple good files of the dozen or so, glass breakers, a decent 1/4 cutting bit, compasses, a tiny level... worth the two bucks.
The place was weird though, never seen a two car garage at a trailer park, and they planted bowling balls in the ground like they were flowers. Weird.

Top to bottom:
Armstrong 11/32, 3/8, 1/2
Challenger 9/16
Crescent 3/4
Mac 5/16
Proto 7/16
Wright 1/2

Is the craftsman speeder a plastic Amber handled one? I think that may be pretty rare these days!

^ ^ ^ That qualifies as YOU **** !!! That baby is in cherry condition.

Thanks! I thought it was a good deal plus it is vintage which is what I was looking for and it does not need a resto! I will probably sell it once I find a craftsman King seeley but I will care for it lovingly in the mean time!

I am not a vise collector. But a few months ago I started casually looking for a vintage Morgan, Columbian, or Desmond Stephan vise for my military workbench/cabinet, because those are the brands I have verified in various wartime period manuals. I haven’t run into any, but I have seen a lot of vises, and I can’t believe how expensive they are.

This was on a table with household bric-a-brac, lamps, dinnerware, an old bike seat, clothing, etc, with no other tools, the people looked like they had no clue what it was, and I was right.

Now, I am expecting one of you vise gurus to tell me what I have.

I am assuming the “HD” is Heavy Duty. What is the “WE”? And is that 9400? On the other side, is that 8466? And what does the “VIII” signify?

I am guessing the little metal data tag on the bottom (“135”) is a serial number. Was that a yearly inventory by model?

Also, the brown paint sure looks original. Hoping someone can confirm that. There is a coat of green underneath but I am assuming that’s primer?

Lastly, when was this made?

Lug, unscrew the slide all the way out and look for a date code on the key. There is some argument over if the early Wiliton's date was of manufacture or the date it's warranty expired. if no date likely wartime production.

Does it say Shiller Park or Chicago anywhere? the curved "Wilton" makes me think early production. the cast in numbers are generally casting numbers. that 135 may have been a part number.

Chicago on both sides. Sorry. I can see that I took a bad angle pic and it's not visible. I'm in spectator mode for the next couple hours, but I'll check the key on the bottom of the slide when I get back home. Thanks for that tip.

Went out to 5 sales and a mega TOO today. Not much out there for me, fortunately.

The first stop was at a place I've been to a year or two ago. The first time was piles of stuff to dig through, so I thought it might be fun to see what else they had. Sadly, not the same this time. Other than the average gardening tools, the only other tools were in a Cornwell stack and they were only selling the tools with the box. Mostly Craftsman anyway, but there were a few goodies I would have liked to cherry pick (Plvmb). NO GO. I was able to convince them to give them a dollar for what anyone else would consider trash.

$1
The vinyl retail pouch for a pair of Channellock 440 pliers.
2 - cardboard sleeves for Chapman #1316 sets in the vinyl pouches (no sets, but one sleeve still had the paperwork in it)

100_2496.jpg

Scans for the paperwork have been posted in the Chapman thread.

The second stop was meager pickings, but I did find a couple of items for a few bucks.

$2
Bondhaus metric ballend hex set 1.5mm-10mm
Craftsman #9-25069 3pc router template guide bushings (still in box)

100_2500.jpg

There was a TOO around the corner as I was heading to my next stop, so I pulled over to check it out. It became a MEGA-TOO when I looked up the street and saw that the whole neighborhood had set up tables. 30+ houses, and after walking both sides of the street ............. not a damned thing worth looking at.

After that, I was off to the 3rd planned stop. Almost all kids toys and clothes. If there had been any tools, they were long gone while I was wasting my time in the neighborhood from hell. I did pick up something for my sister to use in the driveway though.

$10
2 - "Kids at Play" safety signs (NIB) (retail is $25 for one)

100_2501.jpg

The last two stops were worthless, one lied about having tools at all. Just a lawn full of kids trash. The other was selling everything for $1 to clean out. It was all overpriced.

Mmm. Targets.

LOL, funny you say that. My neighbor has this metal table that he's had on CL and can't sell. I told him he's marketing it wrong. With the top hinged over it looks like a metal practice target!

Wow some of the humor here!

Things are get better; minimal rain this past week, NICE day today (Too warm for any jacket by 10) , and a fair number of ads worth visiting including 15 or so that a local real estate agent "sponsors" with signs in the areas and printed flyers with more info.

Some people even had some TOOLS out! :rocker: :3gears:

First stop, besides drive by potential TOO's, was an Estate sale where I got chased out of the garage "this area is closed!" "I was told the whole house is open..." "Not the Garage!" She was loud, and edging on obnoxious...)

i went to someone else for prices...

Anyway $10 for 2 extremely good condition vintage flashlights in working condition with NO leakage damage (the batteries were even good!), a DOE, a Genneral punch, 2 Lectrolite DBE's a SO scale "complements of your SO dealer" an antenna, and a Chrysler car compass.

attachment.php

$5.50 (we "negotiated" :bounce: from 7, to 5, to "how about 5.50?...) for a caster (going on the front stand for the small camp trailer), A mini Hans drill with some bits, and three paw shaped feet.

attachment.php

Three bucks for 2 wood handled drivers, SO Pliers, Krauter wire benders, a small Philips and 3 nut Drivers

attachment.php

$7 for a set and a half of 3/8 drive Sockets fro, 7/17 to 7/8, plus the deeps plus 2 metrics.

attachment.php

Two bucks for a clamp, a battery charger, and a guard.

attachment.php

A bit More to come, errands to run...

My day was even worse . . . I was at a GETTING RID OF EVERYTHING Sale around the corner. They said look around the shed - just be careful.

I found one or 2 little things when she comes back and says "My husband says he doesn't want to sell ANYTHING from the shed until he can look thru it". She was nice about it so I headed out.

Next week is the local Townwide Garage Sale - so Mrs No_Garage and I will make the rounds and make a day of it. These sales bring out mostly junk - but you never know . . .

Was out this morning driving around wasting gas again. Had 3 planned stops and found another 6 sales. The planned stops were a complete waste of time, first one had TONS of rusty import junk, next one was only a small selection of more rusty antiques, and the next one was falsely advertised. All of the other sales had nothing but household and random ****. But I happened upon an elderly lady with a truck cap and two outboard motors sitting on the front lawn for sale, stopped and started talking. Her husband passed away this past January and she was starting to sell off all his hunting, fishing, and other stuff. She told me that her husband bought both motors brand new back in the day and used them for one season then put them away in the barn for the next eternity. She said he started them every spring and put them back in the barn afterwards. I ended up paying $100 for both. One is a 8HP Johnson and the other is a 4HP Evinrude, both 2 Cycle.
I gave her my number and she said she would call me when she digs further into the barn. I can't wait to see what other stuff is there!

Outlaw - You **** on that SK socket find!

I think it was yesterday my neighbor and I went around to various sales. An estate sale with a father/son that we've dealt with in the past was first on the list. They always made good deals and I got a pile of various little things for $20.

Went to a GS that was listed as a "collector"... Yeah, it was more like a hoarder of junk! I think the person must have passed away and the daughter and other people were trying to clear it out. They were selling stuff literally $1 a box, and you had to take the whole box! This was going on several days already and they had the whole driveway full, and you could barely walk around the garage / house. Stuff had to of been piled to the ceiling in the house. It looked like a tornado went through there! I felt so sorry for that lady, she looked so flustered.

This morning I went to a couple estate sales to hit them on the 1/2 price day. First one I got something a friend wanted, couldn't believe it was still there. Second one I showed up probably about 9am and it was pretty well picked clean, still managed to spend like $12 there on various little things. Considering we've had like 5-8" of rain the past couple days I didn't think many people would be out this morning but they were!

I'll try to take pics of it all tomorrow when the monsoons stop...

Guessing Makers might be a city in NewYork?
The Improved Mailing Case Co. was located in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn. It's on the historic registry and the building is still standing, renovated as apartments, if I remember correctly. I am pretty sure the "Makers" in this sense is a synonym for Manufacturers or Mfgrs. As in "Makers of Fine and Sundry." It's an old fin de siècle term. Those mailing tubes (I've seen them with postage stamps still on them) span from the late 1890's through the 1920's.

It's a Craigslist find, but I picked up a South Bend 9a in ready-to-rock condition for $600 today. I'm pretty stoked to finally have access to a lathe at home.

Looks like I'm beat this week on the deals this week! Estate and yard sales were a bust but I went to an antique mall and picked up a Stanley no 82 scraper for $20 (kinda high but it was in really good shape), a small box of assorted craftsman sockets for $5. I then went to goodwill and picked up a 29pc Indestro socket and wrench set for $6. I did see some interesting things at the antique mall such as a SK 36" long tool box for $25 but decided to pass on it.

Glad to see the drought is easing up for you Outlaw.

This rain has been brutal. You were more committed today that I was. I decided to simply have a second cup of coffee.

Thanks Bill!

OK, the rest of my AM finds...

First post was mostly tools, the remainder are Camping tools:

Two bucks for an Army shovel. US but I haven't found the date. most important is its not frozen.. (got two frozen, and several others not frozen)

attachment.php

And an aluminum nesting cook set for four bucks; As plates I hate the aluminum plates, but we are going to start heating them, and using the flimsy plates and throw away liners for dinner in particular since food goes cold SO fast outdoors.

.

With their past I would assume they will start easily after I get a gas tank to try them out. Also well aware what their counterparts go for new after recently buying a brand new Mercury 6hp for the Jon Boat.

Was able to get out and hit a few sales yesterday, most of which were a bust. Lot of driving, little action. But I did pick up a few things:

Stanley 246 mitre box for a tenner, Indestro short shaft spinner and WF Plomb socket for .60 at the restore and the link belt (and a hardback of Camus' The Stranger) from St. Vinnies for $5. Turns out the link belt is too big for my needs, so if anyone can use it, drop me a line.

The thing with link belts is that you take out links to make it fit.
Just saying. ...
