Man you guys have been finding great stuff!! I have either had to work the weekend, or it rained the entire week end, for the last month and half!! Finally got some time this week end. Hit a huge flea market yesterday in Dallas. Most of the tool vendors didnt show because of an 80% chance of rain. I did find some Craftsman clamps, a wrench and a ratchet though! Then I did a lot better in todays Estate sale... more about that next post.
Oh, and I did score some killer French toast!

Blackhawk 3128 7/8" T handle.
P&C 1706-SL 6" adjustable wrench
Craftsman Pearlitic Clamps 66682 x2 (cant find much on these)
DOE Armstrong Tappet 11/16 - 5/8
Proto 4749 1/4 ratchet, only works one way no matter how much I clean and put it back together.... ?
Proto LA 1/4 punch

Thanks man! I knew it was 1 hp and was a good one.. Tested it out and everything works good. Not sure about how the attachment works.. for blades n such? noticed it had the base when I got home... There were a lot of other good craftsman stuff I wanted but no room in my garage, Hard leaving the belt sanders there. No one was even looking at the vise mounted to the back side of the work bench , but me!

It was the unmistakable hammered SK green that drew me to it, Jake! And it is, indeed, an 'S-K Tools' socket tray, labeled 15-32 for metric. I already have a bunch of standard S-K 1/2-inch drive sockets in it, so it's serving my purpose. EDIT: It won't take a full 14-pc set, obviously. But I don't collect 3/8-inch drive.

The 3/8dr version I'm familiar with ends at 19mm.
Yours must be a 1/2dr version for larger sizes that I wasn't aware of.
Nice !

Jake those aluminum Coleman filters in decent condition are bringing in a fair price on Eprey. You won't get rich on it, but you will make a few bucks...

Thanks for the tip, I may look into it.

Yes, it's for blades, chisels, screwdrivers, and such. The model for one of the tool holder grinding attachments is 335.19595 If you search that you can hopefully find the manual and an explanation on how to use it. If you can't find one, PM me and I will scan mine to PDF for ya.

Okay, this is far afield of tools, but as someone interested in ethnology, I'll bite. What does a "Valley name" refer to, and what German-American immigrant pocket does "here" refer to?

Shenandoah Valley of VA. Last name was Hepner, which is a super common name here in the Valley along with lots of other German names. Captain John Ignatius Von Effinger was told to settle here after the revolution on the personal reccomendation of George Washington based on its heavy concentration of German ex-pats. Chances are if you have a German name in the valley, you have a high probability of tracing your heritage back to the old country and most of it is available fairly easy.

From my buddy:
'Standard Ordnance weapons spare parts pouch from post-WWI era into Vietnam. Called the M-1 Spare Parts Envelope (aka "Fabric Container"). These were used with a lot of weapons and often fit within other Ordnance tool pouches/rolls (like the M-13). Double width, two snap version also exists.'

So I went back out; lured by the posting of an "old school mechanics garage full of stuff", and wasn't too disappointed! Not a huge score, but worth the trip.

I picked up 8 cans of Freon 12, and another of AC lubricant. (not quite sure how much you are supposed to use, but I'm sure I can google it!)

two hatchets one is a no-name :drop forged, all steel version te other is a light 1 lb. Norlund. I have a larger (but still fairly light) Norlund Ax with a 24" handle. I was thinking the safety orange paint on the end of the head was PO added but the Ax had the same paint, so I guess it was the factory being safer..

Also picked up a medicine tube full of acid brushes, the soft camel hair type (and in the biggest medicine capsule I've ever seen!), a couple of new 50 ft ropes, the train key fob knife, and that odd Lighter! :spit:

Picked up these old hammers on Saturday. Does anyone know their purpose?

I asked my grandfather today who was a hobbyist woodworker. His idea was for decorate tacks.

Lug, I'm using more and more socket trays even if the bail won't close on them. it is so much more dense in the box, and I still set those on magnets so they are not flopping around...

I got out for a bit more time today than yesterday, and it was pretty thin. It was also day two for a local area sale but I had to leave yesterday before they were "officially" open at 9, and today it was a small fraction of people still trying to sell. (both days hot, so I'm guessing the heat made a lot of people fold for day two...)

First planed stop (all scores were made at planned stops...), only had the little army drab pouch full of those yellow rubber caps. It's marked "BoyT" (Corrected thx Lug!) and between the B & T, and below the o&y, is "42" so I'm guessing WWII. oddly it had no way to be attached to anything! no loops, snaps or anything? :dunno:

The rest, other than the tools, were from one place, along with the HD bucket and padded seat lid. "half off day" so $6 for the mess kit (also '42) ammo boxes, Carbiner clips, & the bucket/seat.

The tools were all SK except for two SO. I was at this place a month or so ago and apparently missed these! I thought I had cleaned him out!

The Canvas in front of the bucket twas a buck elsewhere...

And the last stop netted these two 12X4.80 4 lug tires and rims for $15! I've been looking for these since last fall for spares!

Now I need to get one of those under the car, winder-uppers and I'll mount that under the trailer to keep the spare out of the sun and out of the way...

The pouch is for a first aid kit. It would have contained a large OD green bandage. There should be a slot on the back where a metal clip went to attach it to either our web gear or pistol belt.

Not in this case George, there is nothing at all for attaching it to anything. I think Lugz and his freind nailed it down for

Not necessarily a tool but I picked up this large magnet today. I would say that it has at least 50lbs of pull.
The only markings on it are westinghouse and USAF-6249B along with a caution label and a different unreadable number.

Interesting...(my brother lives just south of Culpeper)... I live in Lebanon county PA (near Lancaster) we have alot of German decendants too (me). But we refer to them as Pennsylvania Dutch ( said they were from Deutschland, the people at that time thought they meat that they were Dutch)

Jeweler's hammers ?
Silversmith's hammers ?
Clockmaker's hammers ?

Whatever they are, they're cool as hell.

$5 swap find meet on Saturday:

d3fd036537c970ba90b42cf13d754180.jpg

Stopped at a garage sale today advertising "tools". While technically true, what was there was a table of milk crates. One held CenTec multimeters, the ones you get free at Harbor Freight. $5 each. The next milk crate held LED flashlights. Yep, the HF free ones. $5 each. Next crate, Pittsburgh screwdriver sets. Next crate held tape measures. And one full of scissors. Not what I'd hoped. But just for the quantity, he must have 100+ trips to the Harbor Freight represented there, so that's impressive.

You don't live around Buffalo do you? Always someone trying to sell a table full of it on CL and at the flea.

M George - that's a fine looking Klein board.

Reminds me of a cartoon magnet that bugs bunny or wile coyote would use.

It's a magnet that was part of a magnetron used in radar equipment.

I just picked this up today-a David Bradley Two-wheeled tractor, sold by Sears back in the '40s and '50s-I think they stopped making them around '68. The seller tells me this one is a '43, but I wonder if they were really making these during WW2? More research will be done.
I saw this at a yard sale on Saturday, and got the sellers number. I thought about it, and called him up yesterday. He still had it, and he had enough faith in my word that he put it aside for me to get today. These things look like they would have a massive engine in them, but the original engine is about a 2.75-3 hp Briggs and Stratton. They have a lot of power due to their gearing, but they are not very fast, I guess. back in the day, there were all sorts of implements for them. I'm going to do a cleanup of this, try to save as much of the original finish as possible, and probably use it to pull a small trailer or wagon around.

I like that Jeeper. I would love to have one even though I have no earthly use for it.

Went to a few sales today didn't score a lot. But I did find one unicorn that I have been looking for at a flea market. 60/70s Craftsman red/gray three drawer mid box. Its going to need some tlc for sure.

I had to double check my garage to see my craftsman midstack is still there!

Don't know much about this plane but I thought it was interesting enough to pay $15

Anybody have any clues?

Walking tractors predate WWII by quite a bit.

My 5 HP BCS outworks my 5 hp Crafty by about 4-1

but my favorite may be the Bean TrackPull

And even better the smaller unitrack

Yes, it's for blades, chisels, screwdrivers, and such. The model for one of the tool holder grinding attachments is 335.19595 If you search that you can hopefully find the manual and an explanation on how to use it. If you can't find one, PM me and I will scan mine to PDF for ya.

Thanks man Im checking it out now!
Cant find a good copy pdf if you have time to scan yours some time that'd be great. Id appreciate that.

My GF and I hit an estate sale last weekend and picked up a few goodies. I got the stove for $5 and she got the blue Sears lantern for $10. They are both 1967 dates and minty. There was a guy in front of us who grabbed the Sears then put it down after saying its a Sears POS. She got to the lantern next and good for her as I taught her old Sears stuff is usually good to go.
Yes she got the better of the 2.

So it was a decent weekend, didnt get out to too many sales since I had to work on Saturday, but did manage to pick up the following-
Pic 1 Husky USA socket set, $2
Pic 2 Misc stuff, New in box puller set from Tekton, old craftsman Ball peen, wrenches, etc... $20
Pic 3 Close up of Craftsman wrenches
Pic 4 "Thor" Brand hammer made in Engalnd
Pic 5 Ok, not a tool, but a nice bench, the pic is after powerwashing / applying a little Teak oil.
Pic 6 also not a tool, an old sectional "Barrister" bookcase with wavy glass pre-1930s that was curbside 2 blocks from my house. It was thrown all haphazard by the street, a miracle all the glass is intact. I even rung the bell to make sure they were actually throwing it out. Cleaned it up some, it's in really nice shape.

Very few decent tools this week at the flea market. I walked away with this handful from one seller. Some users and a couple for the collection.

Williams, Proto, and Armstrong sockets. USA DBD, General magnet, Bonney adjustable, Bluepoint DOE, Barcalo Combo, xcelite nut driver, and crescent pliers.

and you'd be right about that! I have one that is very similar that I got free from an apartment cleanout that I use to display tools.

They can be fairly valuable so I haven't quite found a way to light the inside without drilling holes. Still working on that. As was mentioned, each shelf is a separate unit, so I think that if I can find thin enough wire for the 12volts, I may just put an led strip n each shelf and tease the wires out the back. It's against a wall so nobody will see.

I actually have about 4 display cabinets full of tools in my front room. I just had the grandkids in from Japan for the last 4 weeks, so it got converted to an extra play room, but once I get things sorted out to some extent, i will take pictures.

Is anybody heading to the World's Longest Yard Sale coming up in August (3-6)? I am about 90% certain that we are going this year. I know there have been a few threads on this over the years.

here's a teaser pic from a few years ago
