Just got these in the mail today. Kobalt USA (made by Williams) metric wrenches from the classifieds here.

A while back I posted this 4oz Bonney softface hammer. Today I decided to refinish it. I used rattlecan "orange" to spray the head. The new color is just a tad paler than the more intense original seen on the end with no tip. Outlaw had pointed out that replacement tips go up on eBay, but after searching and never seeing the size (93A for this one and 95A for two more) and further not liking the prices for the ubiquitous 94A, I decided to take a pass at making my own. I had picked up a scruffy, bent chisel that happened to have a cylindrical handle. From the piney smell, I think it's that old celluloid material. I used a tubing cutter to score my line. Then a mini hacksaw to cut it, and an eggbeater/hurdy-gurdy to drill out the hole. First try was too loose, second too tight. I reamed it out a little with a file, and pressed it on the head in my vise. Viola!

Love your ingenuity! Great job putting that back in service with excess material you had laying around!

I picked up an older CMan box too. $20 Has a ding in the top cover, and has been repainted, I need to determine proper color if I want to repaint.

I've got one like it as well. Look to be pretty similar color on the outside but the inside of mine is almost baby blue.

A couple of oddball finds. Various screwdriver handles never used, and a couple of nos quarters mostly duro/indestro made, from the bottom up is Powr-Kraft, Wizard, Indestro and Duro Chrome and then Dayton Chicago (proto?).

These were CL finds this past week...

First was a nice little Craftsman bandsaw my neighbor found (and resold to me) for $20... Lowes had some Bosch blades for like $6... Still had original sears price stickers on the table, I don't think it was used much at all... Just dirty from sitting in a shed...

Next is an early 90's model Craftsman chipper-shredder that I got for $50 (included manual and the catch bag). It has a 4HP Tecumseh engine. Overall really clean and in good shape. I already pulled the tank (fuel line was starting to crack). Needs a new carb, the original is just rusted to heck so I found a new one on eBay for like $11 shipped... My neighbor had a bunch of small engine parts and amazingly he had some Tecumseh OEM parts in their boxes / bags. I got a new muffler & gasket & bolts, air filter & pre-filter. Once the carb comes in I should be able to slap that back in and fire it up.

The ratchets look to all be Duro/Indestro except for the top, which looks like a Herbrand

Nothing special about the DUNLAP ignition/motorcycle kit pliers or the S-K pickle fork. The Wartime Data Supplement to the American Machinists' Handbook (February 1944) is a very nice find for the wartime literature library. It was in a big Gerstner box loaded with machinist tools and tooling. When I started picking through it, the guy warned me that he was selling everything together, but I talked him into letting me have the booklet.

Went to one estate sale and one garage sale... It was so hot & humid it was just miserable.

I didn't find anything, but my neighbor found some nice solid wood shelves for cheap.

Then it started raining some so figured most people would close up for the day. Maybe tomorrow there might be something better.

I had a big haul today. I didn't "steal" anything but I did really well.

IMG_2470.jpg

Highlights include-

Craftsman Butterfly/Flying V long-handled ratchet. It was locked up in one direction so I took it apart, cleaned the parts in the ultrasonic cleaner and put it back together with some Superlube. It works great!

Got this Peck Stow & Wilcox slip roller today off OfferUp for $40. Needs some cleanup but that should be easy. It's a model No.13A.

From a barn sale this AM. I'm not really sure what that jig is for but it looks like it turns the DP into a molding/shaper??? There are some molding bits and extra chuck in the accessory box (box matches what's left of the DP 's paint).

The DP + accessories were only $5. (no need but just too cheap to pass up)

Hit one of the Community Sales in our area this morning.

Picked up the following.

Pic 1--Small Craftsman Model 5176 Bench Vise

Pic 2--Small X-Y Drill Press 2 way vise made in Taiwan

Pic 3--Pair of older woodworking 48" pipe clamps. Logo of M inside a box (or could be a W). No. 7346-4 on one of the castings.

Pic 4--I-Beam section approximately 23" L, by 8" H by 8" W and 55 pounds

Pic 5--NAPA Metal Display board for fan belts and radiator hoses. There is some letters missing in MODAC and Haywood Industries Waynesville North Carolina. Also, sign was made by Century Display Chicago Made in USA.

Pic 6--Couple of small oilers, one on right by Plews and other by K-P Mfg Co of Minneapolis Minn. In center is a round sharpening stone.

Mike

Stonesfan - good catch on the Butterfly Long Handle. I don't think I've every even had one in my hand, let alone have the chance to buy one.

Bobcat - great find on the roller.

You both **** !

Why do people remove the locks when they don't have the key. Looks dumb with a big hole in the box. The box still works great without a key. I don't get it. Jim

SWMBO agreed to a brief run around the neighborhood to check out three nearby sales. Well, she actually agreed to one, but I baited-and-switched her into the other two. She still loves me.

Craftsman rechargeable shop light. I have two of these in the garage already, but the newer one seems to have gone MIA. This one looks barely used. $2

Second sale was a misfire -- it's actually tomorrow.

Third sale turned out to be a former colleague from work. We picked up the wrench, punches and books from them. $5 for everything.

For $3 I think I did ok. The S-K Lectrolite on the bottom has a lot of rust on it but I haven't tried to clean it up yet. The S-K C-28 is mostly grease that is dried on. The C-22 is in very good shape. The Wright grip is a brand I'm not familiar with but it's in like new condition.

I hear that. Make me almost think twice about these Kennedy boxes for $20.
