From a barn sale this AM. I'm not really sure what that jig is for but it looks like it turns the DP into a molding/shaper??? There are some molding bits and extra chuck in the accessory box (box matches what's left of the DP 's paint).

The DP + accessories were only $5. (no need but just too cheap to pass up)

OK day, Nothing spectacular. Quite a few Yawn drivebys, but with two block sales you expect a fair number of those...

I got this Zero Halburton Aluminum case for $7 - no key but I'l test the keys I have before hitting up the lock smith... It has some **** Foam inside. I need to find some as now I have two cases to put decent foam into...

The Plvmb DBE, was cents 50 at one place. the rest came out of a place where the woman was clearing out. Three bucks for: a roll of sanding strip seems to have quite a bit on it; couple of lures and a pack of glow things wityh hooks. plus the Catalytic Heater. very small, burns white gas and can double as a stove. the cover is a pan? (no handle... )

And at the last I saw the ladder was only $5, so I grabbed that as well.

Second to last productive stop was na Estate sale. $4 for all this. The DOE, DBE, SS tweezers (hiding behind the cheapo level), Pipe die, and replacement hammer caps were a buck out of the quarter tub. the rest cam in a bag I was cherry picking for the (Mating) hammer, and odd shot glass when the lady said "$3 for the whole bag, you have to take it all..." :dunno: So I took it...

The snips are no name, but seem older and may be decent. The small combo turned out to be an SK. Everything was either rusty or covered in rust dust... I thought the socket (found in the side pocket of the bag with the SK) was SO, but after cleaning turned out to be Walden Worcesterin.

And the bag: interesting markings:

The very last stop was for a blender I hoped to chop HDPE, with but while its sort of working it may be more work that way than worth it... $3 gamble... No pic.

4 planned stops today and a TOO.

I’ll save the first stop for last.
The second stop was supposed to have tools. I got there a little over an hour after opening, so if there was any, they were cleaned out by the time I showed up. Not even any junk tools. I ended up picking up a roof carrier for my sister’s Subaru instead. The original asking price was $30, but offered it to me for half because I was the only one to even ask about it. It seems that none of the Charities will take them and they really wanted it gone. All the mounting hardware is there, so it should just bolt on. It came off the same model that my sister is driving. The only thing missing are the keys to lock it, I’ll have to look into that.

Stop 2 - $15
Yakima RocketBox roof carrier

100_2620.jpg

The third stop also advertised tools, the sale was a HUGE multi family affair. They lied.
I picked up Wally to guard the entrance to the mancave.

Stop 3 - $1
Wally the Green Monster plush

100_2621.jpg

Stop 4 and the TOO were next. Both were disappointing. Both were light on tools. I picked up one item from each for $1/item.

Stop 4 and TOO - $2
unknown/unmarked tool (was told it was used as a bigger striking head when driving rods into the ground, not sure about that)
Craftsman boxed 3/8dr ratchet (=V=) (needs some love)

100_2622.jpg

OK, now we get to the good one.
Stop 1 was an estate sale in town. Got there early and ended up talking with a guy for almost an hour before we realized that, not only did we go to High School together, we graduated in the same class. He did much better for himself than I did, but I’m glad for him. I don’t compete that way. Besides, I’m not paying off 3 ex-wives like he is either.

Not a whole lot of stuff to look at at this one, but still a few good pieces. Passed on an old “Yorktown” bottom roller in rough shape and an older Yost 105 vise that had been severely abused. A big chunk missing on the back. If it’s still there tomorrow I may put a $20 offer on it. :dunno: Anyway, here’s what I walked away with.

Stop 1 - $25
Bluepoint Supreme S-3440 DOE 1-1/16” - 1-1/4”
Thomas & Betts WT111M crimpers
Williams DP-3 #3 phillips screwdriver
P&C #6211 1/2dr open pawl ratchet
SK-Wayne #45170 3/8dr ratchet
SK 1/2dr bullet style sockets
----- 40116 1/2”
----- 40118 9/16”
----- 40120 5/8”
-- 2- 40122 11/16”
----- 40125 25/32”
----- 40126 13/16”
-- 2- 40128 7/8”
----- 40132 1”
----- 40136 1-1/8” (cracked)
SK #40824 1/2dr 3/4” deep socket
Bonney #??24 1/2dr 3/4” socket (cracked)
SK-Tools #401 1/2 - 3/8 adaptor
sm 1/4dr socket tray (japan ????)

100_2623.jpg

I didn't notice the cracks in the two sockets until I got home and got a better look. Oh well, "Ya spins tha wheel ........"

The SK bullets will go towards building a full set that I haven't had time to research yet. I still need to narrow down when they were made so I can look for the right catalog to use.

Outlaw! I'm so jealous of those hammer tips - and hammer!
I went out to breakfast with wife and daughter, then walked a neighborhood yard sale this morning, and overeagerly spent $11 on mostly stuff I already wonder why:
a Dayton articulated magnifying lamp minus all its electrical parts, a kitchen drawer organizer, two black-handle Snap-on screwdrivers with 1961 patent# 201171 (the small P1 handle has an odd pattern of cracks - what could have done that? Edit: Aw, damn - it's Tenite - doomed to crack or melt.), a 1/2dr (but a little undersized...but there isn't an obsolete size between 3/8 & 1/2...so how?) Snap-on L-driver, a Bonney A20 socket, a Bonney Ford reverse-gear wrench, and four other Bonney shield wrenches (smallest unfinished gullet at one end).
There was a red crinkle-finish tote tray, but unfortunately I didn't have the thought that it might fit my Bonney tool tote until I got home. Ah well, tomorrow is another day.

Struck out this week end with the rain and all. Plus i was hugely disappointed when I saw an SK socket in an estate sale picture only to get there and discover it was full of various other junk, no sockets.

I did pick up these MAC pliers for a quarter though. Images wont upload keeps giving me an error.

I passed up this anvil today with a classic hardie and punch hole. Guessing 100 lbs and cast iron and steel face. I tried to talk the guy down due to the broken horn, but he wouldn’t budge. No numbers, mold year etc. There was a hint of the remnants of a logo inside a square but it was literally beyond interpretation.

Went to several sales today and found some things at 3 of them. The first was the last day of an estate sale from a retired antique dealer. Fairly picked over, but I did score two 60 drawer organizers filled with new hardware, a box of hinges, a 20 by 21 inch tray of hardware, hex keys, an old Stanley utility knife, North Brothers Yankee Screwdriver, a 17 inch Crescent screwdriver, and a cigar box of chisel and punches for $30.

Uggh! I bought one just like that this spring missing only one drawer. I cleverly bought one drawer at a junk shop to replace it. Then just when I was about to add it, got distracted and knocked the whole thing off the table, breaking 5 more drawers. So much for my cleverness. Fortunately, I have a plastic unit with drawers the same dimensions, though they lack the Akro logo.

Every one of these I find seems to be missing 1 or 2 drawers, so I keep trying to put together full ones.

If you can stick to the same drawer type you can sacrifice one of the partial to complete the others. AM used to sell replacement drawers; something else to look into.

Went to one GS this morning while walking my dog. Was the same guy that had a sale back in June, and still didn't have anything this time around...

There looked to be a couple decent sales in town, but prices looked pretty steep from the few stickers I could make out in the pictures, so I passed...

When I run errands tomorrow I'll probably stop by whatever sales are still going and see what I can find on the last day when people just want to get rid of stuff... *fingers crossed*

Day 1 of the "Steam-up" and swap meet at Antique Powerland here in Oregon. I got to meet up with GJ members bmwrd0 and Oregonrockcrusher. Prior to taking the time to meet and talk tools, I had a good time digging through boxes of junk and sorting through tables (literally) piled with tools.

Here's a few highlights from my day:

- Craftsman Heritage era oil can
- Craftsman block plane
- Plomb #6734 valve adjustment tool
- Herbrand 1/2" drive ratchet
- Indestro Super # 3270 1/2" drive flex-head ratchet
- Indestro #5012 1/4" drive ratchet
- A. Plomb flare nut wrench
- Craftsman hand vise
- Athol 613 3" vise ($20)
- Proto 3/8" and 1/4" drive ratchet rebuild kits

Spent $75 on all you see here.

Riley, any chance that has some patent numbers engraved on the lid? Can I get a shot of the top third? I have an oil can that seems identical to later ones that had Craftsman or the mfg's name on the handle, but can't find anything on this. But it is CM blue (old C underline color).

Picked up an old black and decker workmate. Been looking for this specific model for a while. It was pretty weathered but still has a lot of life in it. Sanded and oiled the top, cleaned up the rust on the legs and sprayed them black. $12.

Also pictured (before and after some wire brushing and a coat of rem oil)

S&H co pliers 0.50 cents
Crescent V19 R aviation snips $1

Partial Update on yesterday's finds from he "bag-o-junke":

The Snips were NOT a no name set! I found Boker on them, and I also compared then to sets of Wiss and older Metalmaster sets, and there are subtle differences, so unlikely made by Wiss for Boker...

So I'll give these a better job cleaning them up (requires disassembly) and give them a try!

attachment.php

Also I thought I would need to grind the tip of the big drift punch flat as it had what appeared to be a mangled tip. Its not mangled, and its not a drift at all! its a Stamp punch, and has a "0" and an Arrow so about like "0-)>". That could be handy...

Dang cam won't focus on the tip, so second shot of the result as well...

Thanks Lugz. I'm trying to decide if I should wash it (it's a filthy pigsty) or just leave it. If I decide to use it I don't want it filthy...
I would wash it either way, by hand, though, for fear of that lettering coming off. I have some old ditty bags and other canvas industrial bags, one that had bearing scrapers in them, and it wasn't the filth so much as the smell that was unbearable.

Been a long time since I came home with nothing. Damn vendors were to busy bullshitting with their buddies instead of people wanting to buy their stuff.

I picked up this workmate a couple weeks ago off Craigslist s. Not the best price but it looks unused. Stopped by an antique store yesterday and seen this hults bruk hatchet for $10.
