This morning started out with a walk through the local flea market. I ended up spending $37 at three vendors.

Traffic Light. ($10) for a future Mancave project
4oz unmarked crosspiece hammer head ($2)
and two items at the last table ($25)
----- SK #40336 1/2dr 36mm socket (cracks starting to form)
----- a small unmarked 1-7/8” vise (the seller claims it’s a Prentiss, well see)

100_2625.jpg

The second stop of the day was a disappointing yard sale. Few tools, and all of them cheap junk.
Spent 50¢ for a bag of assorted cable ties.

The third stop was a return to yesterday’s Estate Sale to see if that Yost 105 vise was still there. It was. After inspecting it more thoroughly, I came to the conclusion that - it’s toast. The good Doctor, Reverend Keven would have pulled the plug on it and run away screaming. It isn’t even worth the scrap value. It wasn’t even worth picking up for parts, it was that bad. Very sad.

Still, for $5 I found a few things I missed yesterday.

Lg spool of brown cotton thread/cord
1975 Mass. motorcycle license plate
SK #40118 1/2dr 9/16” bullet style socket
SK #40953 1/4dr breaker bar (SK-diamond logo) (rusted frozen)
another small 1/4dr socket tray

100_2627.jpg

Oh, and on the way home, someone had a pile of free pallets at the end of their driveway to get rid of. 5 of them accidentally fell into the back of my truck so I can restack my firewood pile. :lol_hitti

Not a great weekend but a good one nonetheless.

First stop yesterday I picked up a Scott's broadcast spreader for 10$. It's the smaller model, but my lot is small also. Thing was apparently only used once by the PO, and I believe it.
35463242633_285108c847_c.jpg

Next few stops had nothing interesting. Then I hit one place that had some stuff, where I ended up getting:
36100789152_3d8598444c_c.jpg

L to R:
Craftsman 14mm raised panel combo
Craftsman 5/8 RP saltus (first saltus I find in the wild, so I had to grab it)
Herbrand Canada combo (can't remember the size, too lazy to go look)
Craftsman 3 blade pocket knife
Bushnell binoculars with case, lens caps and case (Case is personalized "To Dad on Fathers Day 1963 Ken)
I'd been looking for a set of binoculars to keep in the truck, and I had also been looking forward to finding a Craftsman pocket knife (Craftsman stuff isn't as common in Canada). Ended up paying 23$ for the lot. Binoculars were 15$ and knife 5$.

Last stop I bought stuff at was a repeat sale from last year, ran by a daughter and her elderly mother. They both remembered me from last year's sale (not sure if that is good or not). Can't remember what I ended up spending last year but I know it was far more than the .10$ I spent this year:
36267342605_68c60b3bb0_c.jpg

Vaco 11/32 nut driver

After that I went for a drive along the seaside to get to another sale, which turned out to be a bust, though I was there 3 hours after opening and I'm guessing a lot of stuff was gone already. They had trays of mixed sockets and wouldn't hear anything about splitting them up, I had maybe 20 sockets ouf of 100 I wanted, not spending 100$ for that.

Today was much of the same, the one sale I was waiting for had stuff in sets and wouldn't separate. Should have gone back later in the day, I bet everything was still there.

My sale turned into a Crowntop CM-fest. Went on last day, who knows what I missed. Got some other stuff, but figured I would take pictures of some of the odd-er stuff.

First was a red gas can. Somebody tried to take it from my hold pull (after I paid), buy saw it in his hands, and told him it was already paid for (after telling him three separate times that he was browsing the hold tables). Missing funnel, but otherwise complete. Tall cup has US and Imp. 1/4 pint marks.

5f9d2594719abbebb48977fd67b15f0f.jpg

Saw a set of driver bits that were in good shape, along with the case not being cracked.

Pipe threader in box. Has 1/2 and 3/4" inserts, and is small enough I can stash it somewhere if needed. Wife yelled at me because I currently have a large ratcheting pipe threader set listed on CL.

Two CM =V= Impacts! 3/4 and 7/8.

Craftsman adjustable auger bit in case, with second blade. Will match with the set of blue CM auger bits I have.

CM Circle P brake spring pliers.

58c5d67de2200168beadd28b8e49ebee.jpg

And the coup de grace... A complete blade sharpener to go on my round-top CM Commercial Block. Everything works well, and is the style to bolt onto the space where the existing guard is. This was the only item pictures with a price (everything else was probably under $10 combined). Price on this? $3 and half price day means $1.50!

640c056639c3b366e86998cd23990509.jpg

Also got a NSK dial indicator, a ton of glue brushes, SO Impacts, a ton of dust collection stuff (adapters, hose, etc), and a lot of nice wood (teak, oak, mahogany, walnut, 40sqft of closet cedar, etc). And a lot of office/school supplies for my classroom/other teachers(about half this pile).

Earlier this week, I found a Sentry Vanguard fire safe for $15, unlocked and code written inside, and a pair of wire stripper for $3.

Not a whole lot to show since been sticking close to home and sales have been slim locally.

Starrett punches, Williams hex bit sockets and of course a utility knife which I can never seem to have enough of.

Miller Falls speed indicator and Snap-On drill index full of PTD bits $8

Cool Wizard fan for the garage but of the oscillation doesn't work $15

Here's some things I picked up from the past couple of weeks: First, two metal cabinets 36x24x78 from an estate sale- previous owner was using them to display a beer stein collection. These will be used as sort of a secondary pantry in my home. only $40ea. Next is a cast iron base from a sewing machine. I'll be re purposing these for a crowntop sander I Picked up a few weeks ago. $10. Today I went to an locksmith's estate, final day of sale, my pickups were this old key machine, which is fully functional, the blue parts box, a new old stock grinding wheel, and the craftsman sander for $25 total.

4 planned stops today and a TOO.

I’ll save the first stop for last.
The second stop was supposed to have tools. I got there a little over an hour after opening, so if there was any, they were cleaned out by the time I showed up. Not even any junk tools. I ended up picking up a roof carrier for my sister’s Subaru instead. The original asking price was $30, but offered it to me for half because I was the only one to even ask about it. It seems that none of the Charities will take them and they really wanted it gone. All the mounting hardware is there, so it should just bolt on. It came off the same model that my sister is driving. The only thing missing are the keys to lock it, I’ll have to look into that.

Stop 2 - $15
Yakima RocketBox roof carrier

100_2620.jpg

The third stop also advertised tools, the sale was a HUGE multi family affair. They lied.
I picked up Wally to guard the entrance to the mancave.

Stop 3 - $1
Wally the Green Monster plush

100_2621.jpg

Stop 4 and the TOO were next. Both were disappointing. Both were light on tools. I picked up one item from each for $1/item.

Stop 4 and TOO - $2
unknown/unmarked tool (was told it was used as a bigger striking head when driving rods into the ground, not sure about that)
Craftsman boxed 3/8dr ratchet (=V=) (needs some love)

100_2622.jpg

OK, now we get to the good one.
Stop 1 was an estate sale in town. Got there early and ended up talking with a guy for almost an hour before we realized that, not only did we go to High School together, we graduated in the same class. He did much better for himself than I did, but I’m glad for him. I don’t compete that way. Besides, I’m not paying off 3 ex-wives like he is either.

Not a whole lot of stuff to look at at this one, but still a few good pieces. Passed on an old “Yorktown” bottom roller in rough shape and an older Yost 105 vise that had been severely abused. A big chunk missing on the back. If it’s still there tomorrow I may put a $20 offer on it. :dunno: Anyway, here’s what I walked away with.

Stop 1 - $25
Bluepoint Supreme S-3440 DOE 1-1/16” - 1-1/4”
Thomas & Betts WT111M crimpers
Williams DP-3 #3 phillips screwdriver
P&C #6211 1/2dr open pawl ratchet
SK-Wayne #45170 3/8dr ratchet
SK 1/2dr bullet style sockets
----- 40116 1/2”
----- 40118 9/16”
----- 40120 5/8”
-- 2- 40122 11/16”
----- 40125 25/32”
----- 40126 13/16”
-- 2- 40128 7/8”
----- 40132 1”
----- 40136 1-1/8” (cracked)
SK #40824 1/2dr 3/4” deep socket
Bonney #??24 1/2dr 3/4” socket (cracked)
SK-Tools #401 1/2 - 3/8 adaptor
sm 1/4dr socket tray (japan ????)

100_2623.jpg

I didn't notice the cracks in the two sockets until I got home and got a better look. Oh well, "Ya spins tha wheel ........"

The SK bullets will go towards building a full set that I haven't had time to research yet. I still need to narrow down when they were made so I can look for the right catalog to use.

Why do you call those SK's bullet style?

Aww, man--you ruined It! I was just about to lay down some suckage on you until I got to the last line. On the GJGS thread, the cardinal rule about a "You ****" is that you can't **** yourself.

So, all you get is a "Nice haul, dude!"

I'm a few weeks behind on updating my finds. From Sunday two weeks ago I picked up this large sliding clamp at an antique store for $10. No name I have found so far.

Then I went to a local flea market. Picked up the 3 "Bud" boxes for $10 and the Proto 1 7/16" combo wrench and partial Craftsman box of router bits for $3.

No oil can inside the pipe threader, but still has the price sticker on the side. Earlier than 1970, based on catalog pricing. Haven't dug further yet.
Gan can cleaned up nice after hosing down. Has the rubber hose, still flexible. Haven't seen a picture yet with the funnel, and half the ones I have seen are missing the tube, so I feel pretty good.

I hope to be the king of suckyness withthis haul.

Aww, man--you ruined It! I was just about to lay down some suckage on you until I got to the last line. On the GJGS thread, the cardinal rule about a "You ****" is that you can't **** yourself.

So, all you get is a "Nice haul, dude!"

Picked up this Temco copper hammer for $10, and a highly regarded Stanley 24/7 CD8820 50mm width padlock w/1 key for $8 (new they run about $30, though nobody seems to have them in stock anymore!)

Because they have a rounded taper at the top of the socket. It's more noticable on the larger sizes. Kinda makes them look bullet shaped.

Just looked at the milk jug for S-K 1/2"D sockets, I see what you mean. I have a 3/4" and a 1 1/4" if you want to trade or buy.

Had a grand old time a huntin' junk this weekend, with the following finds:
First a family run estate sale on Fri:

Millers Falls corner brace, Stanley adjustable square, Ratheon tube guide, KD bingo pullers (comp. set) 24" back saw Superior works, Duro ratchet (needs 3/8" anvil), MAC woodie, Williams 3/8" extension, Goodell Pratt thingy?, Sargent plane iron, Herbrand BDE and a Stanley **** gauge vinyl. And this paper cutter I had been needing for my business

All for $10.
Next up a pro estate on the first day:

Two things of fine laquered wire, SK spark plug socket, Starrett scribe, Brown and Sharp Center finder, SK Wayne ratchet, thinger-bob to test amps on appliances (what are they called?), Armstrong hook wrench, Proto LA tappet wrench and a Snap On extension G code. All for $30. They had a lot of good stuff, but I already had it (Flukes, Simpson, Starrett and Lufkin radius gauge set, etc.) Like I said, first day prices.
Yesterday, I went to the Oregon Steam Up, starting with the swap meet, then meeting and hanging around with Rileysan and Oregon Rock Crusher. Nice guys, great to talk tools and such with. Also to check out the traction engine, vintage tractors and other attractions there. Here is the little I picked up, as I wasn't carrying a bag or bucket:

Proto LA feeler gauge set, Plomb ignition slip joint ignition pliers and Stanley transitional plane. I double checked with the guy about the price on the plane, "Well, I miss priced that one! Still, 5 bucks, as its my fault..." Gave him a 5 and was on my way. But I started to feel guilty about it, went back to find him and give him another 20. But he refused, said just offering it made his day, and now he made mine! Here is a closeup on the Plomb:

Thanks for the offer, but right now I'm just adding to the pile.
I still have some research to do. Some of what I have has knurling at the bottom, some have two rings around the socket.
I need to figure out when each was made and then decide which set I'll be putting together.

(Of course, this is GJ, we all know that I will HAVE to do both. But for now, let me indulge my delusion. :lol_hitti )

Well I hit up a bunch of different grage/estate sales but they all had very limited supply of cool old tools. All I managed to bring home was a 12" Starrett combination square and a glass door knob for $3.
And after I started talking to an old gentleman at another sale about how he broke this 3/4" SK ratchet, he said I could have it if I thought I could fix it. I definitely couldn't turn that down

Also managed to pick up some new Pro Taper bars for $5.
Other than that it was pretty disappointing for the amount of sales going on Oh well. Hope all you a did better than I did[emoji106]

The Starrett rounded off my Garage/Estate sale Starrett 3 piece combo for a total of about $15 for all 3 pieces

I'm thinking that may be a Parker Dodge. Post in the Vise Thread if you haven't already, and can you shoot a pic of the sides of the jaws?

Hey all.

Things have been a bit crazy.

First, I would like to apologize for my absence. I've been going through some major life changes. No, not the Bruce Jenner type of changes though!

I've completed a major move, quit my job of 13 years, gone through some harsh realizations, salvaged what belongings of mine I could that were facing impending doom, and so on.

All I can say is sometimes things happen quickly, and hopefully will work out for the better, as it's time to continue on.

With that said, I see you guys have been very busy!

Looks like plenty of fine drool worthy finds as I had to catch up on the thread.

JAKE- I must say, your brown golf ball story made me laugh. :lol_hitti I just wish you and your nephew were with me and it had happened inside at several select estate sales back home. :)

I hate you. That key machine is awesome!
