WVRR, great score on the air tools. Kind of slim pickings for me today, this is the total for about 6 stops. Got the vernier caliper, Japanese, and the 2 shackles (?) at one sale for $3. and the chemicals and fire extinguisher/super soaker at another for $2. So while pickings were slim, at least I only spent $5. The brake cleaners are both full, the carb cleaner a little more than half, and the Sea Foam about 3/4. The fire extinguisher was in a pile of scrap metal, asked how much, she said free, but I had to take the whole pile, that wasn't happening. So I said how about I pay you a dollar and only take the fire extinguisher, she agreed. Still had water in it, and you can imagine my surprise when I got home, pulled the pin, and proceeded to shoot water about 30 ft. It was even still charged with air! The stuff some people will throw out........

A couple of nearly-new tools, for <$50. Neither has any accumulation of dirt to show it was used much.

Drill Dr. 750X sells for $139 at Home Depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/Drill-Doctor-750X-Drill-Bit-Sharpener-DD750X/100595323

Roberts jamb saw model 10-40. The model 10-56 sells for $189, looks like the 10-40 is an older model, but blades are avail. at Home Depot. http://www.tools4flooring.com/roberts-10-56-longneck-plus-6-jamb-saw.html

So, figure about $280 together, new, not a bad discount I got.

Yesterday at Habitat for Humanity, a CST/berger transit level model 54-200K in the original box, showing essentially no visible wear, for < 1/3 of what it's sold for at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Berger-S...0X-1-4-in-at-75-ft-Accuracy-Aluminum/15676025 which is $416. I had some layout work to do for a slab, I was going to hire a surveyor, now I'll do it myself for less $ and own the tool.

Re: Orange punch is made in England with a foot logo on it, anybody know who the maker is?

This tool was made by Footprint, a tool company based in Sheffield, England.

Some items picked up from local auction this week.

Ford oval shaped tool box. I've seen these once before but never had the chance to buy one. It's a novelty but being a confessed Ford guy I like it.
IMG_2227.jpgIMG_2228.jpg

Some ford trim pieces from approximately 1951.
IMG_2249.jpg

A complete dash assembly (minus a few knobs) from a 1951 Ford. Has gauges, cluster, radio, glovebox. Just like it came out of the car. It will make a cool wall hanger.

Saw a Chevy one recently, but looked to be a pain to balance, on one angled partial base. Ford at least widened the flat part so it looks useful.

No real brand preference between the two, just this box looks more useful.

The warden showed me a facebook post for a GS about 15 miles away "this looks like something you would like" When I saw it I set the alarm and was there about 10 minutes after it opened. I wish I was there at the open as there was a Deere 30" hydraulic tiller that they sold for 20 bucks, it looked almost new.

Big items were a Deere 430 front blade setup for 150 with the frame extension. A bar for a Deere logsplitter for 5. I was able to pickup some good tools. My fav is the Deere 6" adjustable in new condition

Uniden 100 scanner for a buck
SO 3/8 flex 10
Craftsman USA SAE crow feet 10
Deere wrenches 10
Wright 1/2 impact set 50 cnets each(was missing 2 but I had them in the spare box)
USA vice grips 50c-2$ each

Happy on one hand but a little pissed I didnt get the tiller

Then I went to town to get some supplies and ran by a couple pawn shops. Saw this on the floor with a 40$ price tag. so 40 and tax later I have a near new 1/2 -V- set with RHFT ratchet RHFT 3/8 new new condition 3/8 INdusto flex, metric 3/8 socket, breaker bars, metric Craftsman wrench set and lots of other good items. What makes me the happiest about this purchase is I am putting sets together for my 4 kids. My 2 boys have larger boxes and the girls will have smaller boxes. THis box matches the one I have for my oldest daughter

I am jealous about the $40 Craftsman box with two RHFT's and the other tools! You ****!

I'm still a week behind! From a week ago Friday, the first estate sale of the day I went to I was making a pile and I found a nice jackknife in the grass, I had not seen it on the table and I asked one of the guys running the sale if it was his personal knife. He said no but he thought he knew who it was, that guy was already driving off and we yelled at him and he stopped and I brought the knife over to him and sure enough it was his! So I finished up my pile and when I checked out the guy running the place threw some small stuff in for free. Spent $35 for the following.

Pic 1: My favorites, Craftsman, Dunlap and Sears stuff and some tape measures for my collection. The NOS Coca Cola bottle opener I bought for a friend, it was one of the more expensive items at $10. I really like the Dunlap mortar tool and the NOS Craftsman Underlined logo pullies.

Pic 2: Various USA made wrenches, Barcalo, Bonney, Williams and many others.

So the second estate sale I go to a week ago Friday had one of the most meticulously organized shops I have ever seen! Unfortunately some of the prices were a might high, $8 for a single Thorsen wrench and no negotiating on the first day. I still found some goodies, spent another $35 total.

Pic 1: A BIG stack of Craftsman owners manuals and pamphlets for power tools, vises, and accessories. One of my favorites from this sale! More Sears and Craftsman stuff, Cornwell 1/4" drive ratchet and some other stuff.

Pic 2: Comet creeper.

So I get done with the second sale and go to lunch with friends and before I drive home I check on one other advertisement for tools and stuff a week ago Friday. An older widow lady answers the phone and says she is selling her late husbands tools. It was on the way home so I figured why not. Hours later, an ATM trip and $300 later I finally escaped!

Pic 1: Campbell Hausfield impact and air hammer set, hardly used. Already sold it to a friend for a slight pofit.

Pic 2: Craftsman, my favorites are the 1/2" drive RHFT ratchet, the Professional short pry bar, the complete ball end allen wrench set and the big early underlined logo DBE wrench.

Pic 3: Highlights here are the my first Artisan tool, the adjustable wrench, Champion spark plug flex handle ratchet, Channelocks, K-D 1/4" drive RHFT ratchet and the early ratcheting (on the open end) Wrenchking wrenches in the red pouch.

Pic 4: On the bottom is Starrett, middle right is Snap On and top third is Proto along with a few other brands scattered in.

Pic 5: Williams adjustable wrenches on the bottom, S-K tools on the top. The S-K 1/2 drive set on the top has the original pamphlet. I replaced the one missing socket already and am hunting in my stash for a sliding T-bar to complete this set.

Pic 6: More Williams! I probably tripled my Williams with this score.

Pic 7: Folding Taiwan shovel, working Fluke 87 meter, Williams tool rolls, 3 brand new Lenco welding aprons ( already sold 2 to buddies) and various hammers.

Part II of the big haul from the widow lady.

Pic 1: Young Brothers punches, Roper Whitney punch set, vintage cool postal scale, box of burrs and bits, Stanley square, Billings wrench, 2 Siesta Ware western glasses, military style compass and a couple of wire brushes.

Pic 2: The blue and red toolbox is missing the top and front panel anyone recognize it? The red 2 drawer box was also in the haul.

Pic 3: Popular Mechanics USA made tool box and roller, severely faded! Still several tools inside. 5 ammo cans were par of the haul too.

Pic 4: Hmm some of my pictures disappeared. I still have axes and vises to post!

So am I caught up yet? Heck no, I am still working on last weeks stuff!
On Saturday a week ago I went back to the really organized workshop estate sale again for the 75% off sale just before closing. And I spent another $35. Notice a pattern there?

Pic 1: The guy used cigar boxes to organize things and had little pull rings on most of them to get them out of the shelves with perfect spacing for them. They were dirt cheap today and some I just got for the box itself. In this picture the Keep Moving cigar box has new green felt, underneath is few Craftsman and other items I found. The Sherman and McConnell Drug locking box is cool and came with the key.

Pic 2: The Tampa Nugget box has a right angle drill head and some chucks, the King Edward has a hot glue gun. Underneath are Lufkin and Goodell Pratt calipers and other precision tools.

Pic 3: Sears Router Template Set, a Sears hold down device and a bunch of grinder accessories including buffer mandrels.

And several of these items I got the owners manual the day before!

I sure hope you're a guard and not an inmate! :lol_hitti

If he was an inmate I bet he was really wishing he found the air tools for $10 or some files [emoji23]

New form of torture disguised as a privelage for inmates. They are bused to yard sales for a group outing, but only the sales yielding clothes and baby toys! And they aren't allowed to associate with the women running the sales, or the warden makes them demonstrate the thigh master, shake weight, and ab roller in front of the group at the next sale . :lol_hitti

I'll be running my youngest off to RPI to start his college experience. No sales for me unless I hit some on the way back.

Happy hunting, all!

Congratulations, BB. Great school!

Thanks, Lugnutz! We got him moved in today, and I couldn't think of a single final nugget of wisdom he didn't already embody. He'll do great!

I left him at about 1:30PM, and so had time to stop at two sales on the way back to Boston. The first one was a home flea market (a reseller of previously picked stuff operating out a basement garage). Mostly yard sale bric-a-brac, but I found the tools department and fished out these two:

Plomb 1053 dual-marked DBE "3/4 AM (1 1/8)"
Craftsman Long-C

d54bb35f5dd8c058649bf67458928857.jpg

After joking that the price was "Fifty dollars!" they settled on $2.

Next, I plugged in the address of an estate sale an hour away in Otis, Mass. I'd get there a half hour before closing on day 2 of a three day sale. The ad had pics of a vintage gas pump, and boasted lots of old tools. I rolled up as predicted with 30 minutes to shop. The sale was a well-excavated garage, with all of the screwdrivers in one place, drills in another, etc. Pre-sorted sales usually mean higher prices, and they were. However, as I picked my way around the room, I spied a glossy black tool box with what I now know are vintage drawer pulls (thanks, GJ!). Sure enough, still hidden behind masking tape was a vintage Craftsman Heritage badge. I went through the drawers and saw some SK wrenches, Vicegrips, but also a lot of tool box debris--nuts, bolts, knobs, dirt. You know, the standard left-over junk that accumulates in a working man's toolbox over the course of a few decades. No drawers full of Snap-on wrenches or other obvious treasures.

I waited until one the female staff members asked if I had any questions. When I brought up the tool chest, she called for two guys, an older gentlemen in his 60s and another about my age. The old guy says "Oh, we haven't even had a chance to go through that box yet." He shuffled through the drawers and said "How about a hundred bucks?" The younger guy immediately jumps in with "Oh, there's easily a hundred bucks of tools in there, that's a great deal, blah, blah blah." I hemmed and hawed because I wanted it, plus the handful of other tools I'd already picked, for between $60 & $80. However, I only had $45 in my pocket and I live too far away to come back on the last day hoping to score it less on closing day. That, and Mr "That's a bargain" kept nannering on about how many good tools were in there.

I should have walked away, but I offered to pay the old guy's $100 asking if I could throw in the half dozen wrenches and welding mask I had picked up already. The young guy says "No way!" at the same time the old guy says "Yeah, sure." Well, apparently the old guy was the authority, because we shook on it. I gave the guy $40 to hold it and zipped out to an ATM for the balance.

As I was leaving, I noticed an Eco air meter on the outside wall of the garage. I know they are pricey on Ebay, so I casually asked if they were selling this one. "Yeah," the young guy pipes up "the bidding on it is up to $600." I nodded and said "That's a good price." Way beyond my price range. The old guy dollied the toolbox to my car and we loaded it in.

Because they have a rounded taper at the top of the socket. It's more noticable on the larger sizes. Kinda makes them look bullet shaped.
Hey, that last estate sale brought in two 9/16" & 7/16" 1/2"-drive S-K bullet sockets, allowing me to finish out my S-K toolbox set! Sweet!

Look what else I found amongst the tool box debris:

Couple of days worth here; I was too busy gluing and sanding yesterday after the YS trip.

Two day area wide sale. Aan annual event I always look forward to. Nothing huge in my finds this weekend, but I did find a few things...

Yesterday, Many were one item per sale a few were 2-3, I did get the first two for free at an estate sale; That was the tank wrench and the offset DBE, (Wright). Key ring LED Flashlight was cents fifty, The hook spanner, miter, and Pellets, were $4 (The miter fits the 1936 table saw I'm not using as my only T saw, so that gives me two to work with. the original I had setup for finger jointing, and I think that will be its role; fixtures for the saw...) , cable clips, were a buck, $4 for the adjustable and Military key/tool, ten for the Big LED Flashlight (identical to the one I got recently and is VERY good; it has a focus-able beam, and is second only to my Streamlight...), and souvenir knife (Lake Tahoe) that caught my eye, and Eight for the mini square (I was using it last night setting hinges on the box project) and USN Corbin lock:

Jeff Alert, this one is different, you insert the key, then pull and twist on the shackle! you never actually turn the key! quite different!

Lugz Alert:
that Military key; it has a square socket that to me looks like a clock winder, the "wings" could, and probably do double as a flat blade screwdriver... :thoughts? :dunno:

The Craftsman 10 r 12 oz, hammer was cents 50. Wrist brace $2, Drum stick, Peck, Stow, & Wilcox 10" adjustable and the hand drill (millers falls #1, and with just a few drops of oil, this thing is SMOOTH! - It even came with six or eight really nice bits! I like that is has an idler wheel to keel the ring and pinion properly meshed!) $2 all.

I almost forgot his: A Nikon shoulder straps for binoculars. (those are my range finding M13A1's I use a lot hunting - the orange padding are wrist sweat bands so it's not clattering with my gun...) I have a set I made but the $3 these cost I can't buy the buckles and snaps to make a set!

And today's haul:

An Aluminum 2 groove pulley, for a quarter, $2 for the Master lock hasps that I happen to have the puck style lock for (Paid a buck for that lock..),
23" Mini Flag pole (has a very faded Swedish flag on top...), for $4, and Five buck for 2 SO sockets, A Plvmb 1" Socket Proto 3/8 extension Cornwall 1/4" extension and lastly the Lectrolite DBE.

I liked the Flagpole as it had a hole under the ball and the Cleat, so its operational!

That's all this weekend. so now its back to the box project!

The Proto wrench set was $6, Fluke meter $3 and everything else was $.25/ea.

A roll of around 12' of 10 AWG and a roll of about 25' 4/0 single conductor was $.50/roll. The fence wire was "big bucks" at $2 but it's 1/4 mile worth.

Picked up this interesting Coleman lantern over the weekend. Usually, they're dated on the bottom, but this one has a bunch of patent numbers and the U.S. marital mark. So, likely from a military contract.
The most recent patent on the list (1973184) was granted in 1934.

Maybe Outlaw can help me narrow down the production? :dunno:

No clue, Outlaw. Possibly some kind of special Ordnance multi-tool. I'll page through some references when I get a chance.

(those are my range finding M13A1's I use a lot hunting - the orange padding are wrist sweat bands so it's not clattering with my gun...)
A classic astute choice for pre-multicoated 6 x 30 glasses with a reticle.
