I went to the Fond Du Lac flea market today, the one guy who had the most tools in bins was a talker. I was wearing a Packers jersey and he comes over and starts talking & talking, mostly bs and some F words. I like "come on, this is a public place." He had a lot of stuff that I wanted to go through but he kept on yapping about football. A 10 minute process took 25 minutes and I didn't get to look at all the stuff, I could tell my wife wanted to go. And other people were crowding me to look at the tools.
I got a Lisle battery/wiper puller, snap on 3/8 3" wobble extension, 2 more extensions, and 3 sockets for 6 bucks, not a bad price I guess.

Today's finds. Someone's old ignition set and a really nice p&c box. Not a p&c tool in sight though.

Fine scores everyone!

Riley you really **** on finding that glob of P&C drivers, not mention other things.

Flyer nice score on that box. Looks like it paid off to check back. On Grants, I cant say for sure about the rolling chest, but i think they had some carry boxes. I see odds and ends of their tools sometimes.

Keep up the good finds guys. I'm keeping busy with Irma cleanup around the yard.

Scoured Jake's Flea Market today in lifting fog, looking for some specific Bonney wrenches, a specific pot-bellied stove leg, etc.
Of course I didn't find anything I was looking for. But there were plenty of other finds, including S-O/VacuumGrip dikes, Hinsdale and couple New Britain sockets, and somewhat banged-up Allen wrench display. I straightened the bends and cleaned it with WD40, then loaded it (some are actually Allen branded). Now if I could find a metric one...

Quick stop down the road yielded me 2 Cronatron filler rod storage tube holders that were brand new for $8. Not too bad I thought

It's slowing down but a couple items grabbed my eye. The first was a portable Bosch power recip. saw with miter fence attachment along with a PC Portable Planer. (each kit was only $5 and looked like new).

P1090265.jpg

Next was a really old Jacobs #14 Super Chuck complete with oil port. Pat 1915. ($5)

Mmm, I bought the Allen display, the leather punch, and a J Wiss & Sons BX Cable Cutter, I guess from you, and I really thought hard about a 1/2dr pressed steel rachet, Blackhawk, I think.
The SO/VG and the NB sockets I got from a lady between the sheds and the highway, next to the small food shack.
If you're the guy who had the complete set of (underline) Craftsman Professional lathe tools in original box, again they were gorgeous! I also admired the condition of the gray Craftsman tool tote with removable tray. It looked to be Union made.
In any case, I hope the day worked out favorably for you. It really is an early bird paradise.

Yes that was me with the Craftsman underline and remember you grabbing the Blackhawk. It was a good day and got to go home with Craftsman gouges. Cool beans on the SO VG. You should have grabbed the tool tote. I gave it away at $5 20 min later. Today was a day to go home with nothing and almost made that goal.

got to working on cleaning up the $3 worth of clamps from the swap meet this week end. The big one seems pretty old and have the name S.SHAW stamped into it bout 5 or 6 ramdom places. Im guessing this might be a hand made clamp by an old blacksmith ?

I don't know but probably... I think you are safe from Ben Franklin 5 and dime though...

 Outlaw ,I actually remember those Ben Franklin stores. My dad had a second a job as a barber to the farmers (small town) and there was one directly across the road from his shop. I can't remember anyone from our family ever going in there though. If by chance I find one from Ben Franklin you can have first dibs!:beer:

3bay, I actually have my dads W.T. Grants electric drill and though I don't use it, it still works. Hope all is well at the new homestead

I would guess your right. However, on the S Shaw, I suspect that is an owners mark.

I hit up a local thrift store lat night and came away with a huge haul.

First up, is this 2d chest that is built like a tank. It's missing the front cover but that's not what I was after. This thrift store doesn't like to individually price tools that are already in a tool box. Priced at $24.95.

I did not photograph any of the dozen (or more) each of the screwdrivers, pliers, punches & chisels, or misc sockets & allen wrenches (all American made). All I really cared about is the following:

S-K Diamond logo 1/2" drive socket set.
- 42470 "Pat. Pend." 1/2" drive ratchet
- 41653 1/2" drive breaker bar
- 40181 1/2" drive speed wrench
- 40152 1/2" drive sliding T-bar driver
- 40161 1/2" drive 5" extension
- 40162 1/2" drive 10" extension
- 15 1/2" drive Sockets from 7/16" through 1 1/4" including 19/32" & 25/32"

Fortunately, I had help loading it in and out of the car!

Brian

Damn Brian... You're on a roll recently! Keep it up man.

I dropped some aluminum cans off at the recycling yard today.
Found a CJ-7 hood (Golden Eagle) sitting there calling my name.
40# of steel at $0.40 per pound - -$16
7# of aluminum cans cashed in - +$3
Net cost of the hood was $13...

Probably gonna hang it on a wall or something.

The next find from the same thrift store was an S-K tool box from (I think) the same era as the previous socket set.

What caught my eye right off the bat was the 1/2" S-K ratchet. I just grabbed the box and threw it into the cart without so much as a thought.

$18.95 for the box with its contents.

- S-K 42470 Diamond logo 1/2" drive ratchet
- Unmarked 1/2" drive breaker bar
- Disston 12' tape measure
- Craftsman "BE" 1/2" drive 5" extension
- Unmarked low profile hack saw
- TruFit DBE
- Ford adjustable wrench
- Dayton combo wrench
- Plomb 1/2" x 7/16" "War Finish" DBE
- Craftsman =V= "ratcheting" open-end combo wrenches
- Craftsman long-C DOE wrenches
- 6" & 8" Crescent wrenches
- Craftsman "Crown Top" SAE right-angle DOE ignition wrenches in original pouch
- Craftsman "circle-F" right-angle screwdriver.

Not pictured were a plethora of tawain sockets & screwdrivers.

I went to an estate sale Saturday. It had been going on for three weeks so it was well picked over. They advertised $1.00 each item, so I shought it might be worth a look. It was just as I expected, no goodies, but there were some pickings in the remaining junk. I made a pile and then had them price it. It worked out pretty well.

Two pieces of 2x4 rectangular tubing four feet long
A large box full of Allen wrenches, Bondhus drivers, etc.
An SK socket box with 1/2" drive sockets from 7//16 to 1" (missing 11/16 and 13/16, but with and extra 7/16 socket.
Williams S52 ratchet missing the guts.
Flaring tool yoke and screw (I need the handle for a set I bought recently).
Garland #4 rawhide hammer, split head.
Cee-Tee pliers.
Handle for an axle/hub puller with 1-1/8" hex, lugs for a detent ball.
Short SK 1/4" drive extension.
Assorted Vlchek, Barcalo, and other wrenches, including a 5/8" P&C combo.
A roller cabinet from an Atlas engine analyzer.

Total price was $11.00.

The Garland hammer freed up easily, ready for new faces.
I have the missing sockets for the SK set, a ratchet and extensions.
The cabinet is now carrying my Plasma cutter and Lincoln LN-25 wire feed.
I'll be posting more photos of the cabinet on the Metal Cabinets thread.

Just spent $8 for the smaller holder, and $5 on the DOE set, and an SK box set, and $1 on CAM angled screwdriver, and I thought I had some good deals. Nothing like that!

Holy **** Riley! Rockin' and rollin' man!

I had a lucky SK find today myself. Not as cool as yours but a good one.

Flyer -thanks. Yeah, been in FL a short time and now all this. Been cleaning up and fixing up since the hurricane.

Here's the rundown...the whole fence came down, lost a bunch of shingles, propane regulator broke/ hose damage, most porch screens blown out. Thats about the worst of it. The power has been on. Across the street theirs hasn't been. We are thanking God the house is still standing!

Username -sweet hood.

I've got a pawn shop story with a happy ending guys:

I was out today getting parts and supplies as I have been the last few days. I said let me check out a couple pawns in the area.

I'll start with my second pawn stop. It was rather amusing. There were a ton of tools for once, big dirty full junk bins like I love. I spent a half hour digging only to be shot down. I made a small pile and the counter guy removed the three pieces of Snap On and Mac (drivers and a little DOE big wow!) and said NFS. Said he wants to sell them online. I laughed and said "Cool, I don't need any of them anyway. I just came here to look. Glad I could find them for you."

Then he tried to add them back to my pile at a cost of $25 for everything. I said no thanks. Then he felt bad and he said I worked so hard digging, he gave me all the rest for $3 :lol_hitti:

Herbrand 1/2 speeder
Tona (czech republic) 3/4 drive 24mm
Williamd 1/2-3/4 adapter
Unmarked Snap On "NOT GUARANTEED" socket
Silver Eagle 1/4 swivel

The first pawn stop today was a lucky find.

They didnt have much, as is typical, then I saw an SK set on the shelf.

I asked the workers how much and in a thick accent they guy says $50 (or so I thought).

I then repeated "$50?", ready to spring for it in my mind.

He says "No, Buddy. $15. ONE FIVE." :wtf: Unheard of. I almost fell over.

So, for $15. 3/8 drive SK set with a Mac U Joint too.

My turn to hand out the suckage. You, sir, ****!

Edit: I wanted to point out that I own that exact set, purchased new back in '98. I think I paid ~$90 which seems like a steal now. It's my favorite set.

:lol_hitti Thanks. Think maybe the last time I got that kind of deal at pawn shop was years ago when there was an auction for a closed pawn shop's contents. I won a duffel bag of tools with some Snap On and Mac in it, and only one other guy was bidding against me, because the listing in everyone's hand read BAG OF TOWELS!

That is a terrific idea! My first thought, swear to god, was this old ramshackle A-frame cabin we had in the Poconos when I was a kid. It would look good at the peak hanging between the gables!

"Glad I could find them for you."
Snerk. I hate those vendors. Lately I've been swallowing my pride and acting more and more like a know-nothing **** at flea markets. As soon as you look and talk like a picker, the prices go up.

I'm only missing one wrench from the set now.
Which one? I pass them up all the time!

This was my meager haul at the double early bird today...

- The sliding tee is a Williams 3/8-inch drive, which I needed for a set I am trying to complete.

- The 1/4-inch square drive spinner is an Oxwall. Cheap, corny, consumer grade tool, but - believe it or not, I don't think I've ever seen a reversible ratcheting 1/4-inch drive spinner before. I like it! I'm going to try to clean up the deterioration (slowly off-gassing) on the handle and clear-coat it.

wow man 3bay thats an awesome score! Well done!! I never really check the Pawn shops here.. maybe I should ....

Thanks. Yeah, you never know. Usually overpriced back home, and slim pickings because they sell online, but always worth a look.

Snerk. I hate those vendors. Lately I've been swallowing my pride and acting more and more like a know-nothing **** at flea markets. As soon as you look and talk like a picker, the prices go up.

Yeah, this same story has played out 100 times over for me at sales and such. They're too lazy to do the work of sorting/cleaning, then you find something good and the price goes up.

I remember one estate sale where all the tiny wrenches in a coffee can labeled $1 each on the can. Suddenly I find a Snap On and its $3 when I brought it forth to the Grand Turdball of Tools. (Can you tell I never cared for the guy?) I made sure to make a scene in front of ALL the customers in the room before leaving. Nothing like wasting your time going, finding good stuff, and having them pull **** like that because they're jealous they missed it for themselves when setting up.

Its usually something I don't need too. Another one that comes to mind was an estate sale with a box of old kitchen knives in the basement. Most were priced $2, $3. I found three old Cutco not priced and asked the woman working how much? She says "Oh my these are Cutco I have to take them to the boss." I thought ok let's go see what the king has to say. He took them and his cell phone outside to check Ebay pricing. Came back in and told me this one's $19, this one's $26, blah blah blah. I felt like telling him f... off , you didnt even know they were there 5 minutes ago.

Like I said it's happened a million times. Many times when I find something really good that isn't priced I get that uh-oh feeling all over again.

Which one? I pass them up all the time!

Craftsman =V= 1 1/16" x 1 1/8" DOE. It's a common wrench, but I haven't stumbled on to one yet. Craftsman wrenches are so common, my philosophy is to let them fall into my lap as opposed to seeking them out. But, if you come across one for a buck, I think it would still be economical to ship across the country :)

this is why i believe we don't have estate sales around here. i think it got real old for the geezers that'll spend some $ for rusty stuff. most farmer families would just hold on to the stuff till the generations died off and the whole kitkaboddle went to auction. i feel for you guys that don't have auction sales… i know the hanging around most of the day is a pain but its what i do. good luck.
