But the good (AKA valuable) kind...

Four Mercedes Benz DOEs, two Hazets and a Warner. I should be able to quadruple my money on this stop!
Happy flippin, BB.

and a cool old SK tool chest.
That's a No. 6610 Heavy Duty Tool Chest. Drop front lid like the No. 6614 Heavy Duty Machinists' Chest, but fewer drawers, two clasps, and handles on the sides. I'm thinking late 1930's or possibly wartime. In the 1943 catalog, it is shown with free-swinging pulls and free-swinging side handles. But who knows. Definitely either late 1930's or 1940's with that logo. The metal badges came later. Terrific find!

So I mentioned that I drove an hour and a half for what looked like a good estate sale, only to find Harbor Freight. Such is the risk and I will only say that I am glad that I didn't try to be there at opening, standing inline for a few hours... Only to find the ****.
Anyway, I found a few good things and I don't really need that much, its just for fun and too make a few bucks at this point. I also hit a couple small estate sales on the way home, not finding much at the first one, but did find a few good things.

Unused Easco SAE/Metric set $5. Go nice behind the seat of my truck.
<a href='https://postimg.org/image/9drkfc73p/' target='_blank'><img src='https://s26.postimg.org/c7upss9a1/20170923_115725.jpg' border='0' alt='20170923_115725'/></a>
Crowntop drawer unit $4
<a href='https://postimg.org/image/3up0y4a2d/' target='_blank'><img src='https://s26.postimg.org/yc4vpnxfd/20170923_115922.jpg' border='0' alt='20170923_115922'/></a>
The misc. from that sale and from one of the other sales
MAC 1/2 socket holder, Witherby auger bit set, Estwing saw, Coleman funnel, oils, Proto Ruby line driver, earplugs $13
The last sale was at a retirement home, thought I might find a few boxes of nails, something like that. Boy was I wrong
<a href='https://postimg.org/image/7kt94rbat/' target='_blank'><img src='https://s26.postimg.org/c6pdd3wu1/20170923_155856.jpg' border='0' alt='20170923_155856'/></a>
Lufkin ruler for a square, Starrett and Lufkin pin vises, Nicholson USA files, Proto 1/16 punch, a high quality drill bit, reamer and counter sink, Starrett micrometer wrenches in envelope, assorted machine screws, Master lock in box and Proto Pro and P&C keychain screwdrivers. They said any reasonable offer, I said $10, they said deal.

Got this. I thought it holds a battery but I don't think it's strong enough.

That sounds like the perfect job for a tool guy!!

Yeah, agreed. As long as it's all junk though. Otherwise way too much would be coming home.

Rich that does sound like a fun gig.

Bomber I thought wrote nice find on the Mercedes set but I left it out! Very cool find.

BMW nice find on the Easco. And more cool key ring drivers this week. I haven't found any in a while. Good to hear you didn't get skunked again.

... But just before I left, I checked CL again. Whoa! A like new 1 ton shop crane was just posted for $25! I contacted the seller immediately. He was 10 minutes away, I got there in 8. I paid the price and loaded it in my truck. The guy only used it one time. I rarely get one of those "you ****" deals, but I think this qualifies:rocker:

I have had one the same for many years. suggest get a bit of flat stock and weld a collar around the leg receivers, like a hitch receiver has so it doesn't crack. Also the hook that doesn't swivel kinda ***** sometimes, i can probably post a pic of what I did to mine tomorrow.

I picked up this little lock by Corbin. Stamped USMC I assumed it was a footlocker lock, but a friend thinks it may have been for a sea-bag. I am open to guidance. The action is different from other padlocks. When the key is inserted it doesn't turn, but the shackle pulls up and turns the whole barrel.

Quick stop at our small local flea. Picked up a blister pack of small wire wheels for a dollar. Not much else caught my eye, but I noticed this Companion tote in good condition. Not being into Companion tools, just took the pic.

Completely shut out today.
The only thing that caught my eye was a Matco 1/2dr shallow impact set w/tray for $80.
Unfortunately I don't need another SAE set. If it had been Metric, well ............

Thursday's haul at an estate sale. Not much there for me only spent $9 total. I will get that back selling the axe to a hatchet and axe collector buddy.

Truper axe, 4" Crescent adjustable wrench, 1982 Ford yardstick and a Craftsman chisel. The crusty Snap On Ferret ratchet a buddy gave me.

A week ago Friday's haul. I went to a tiny town 35 miles away I had never even heard of. Spent $49 total and enjoyed seeing some new country.

Pic 1: Industrial cart and old garden sprayer. The Mustang 289 air cleaner I got for free from someone else.

Pic 2: I almost passed on this toolbox until until I saw the brand new USA made router bits.

Pic 3: Linesmans canvas tool bucket. No name I can find but seems well made.

Rocket hammer from earlier this month and a Proto screw driver for the princely sum of $4 for the pair.

A friend is moving out of her 20-yr residence and is shedding stuff in prep for her new condo. I took away a stamper, a 45-lb bag of weed-n-feed, some plastic edging and a yard sprayer, all free. I'll be going back for more on Tuesday.

I got out for a fuel run, and parts for the tent project, and hit two YS's; only one planned.

The TOO was actually first on the way, and was the best score:

All but one thing was fromn the dollar box. - Sorry for the color challenged pics, the Camera may be dying...)

Thorsen speeder and breaker, Indestro Flair wrench, New Britain Combo, Lectrolite DBE, a no name DBE next to it. Valve guide driver that needs touched up on the lathe, tweeser/tongs, the strippers I got solely for the fact it had a 4-40 screw cutter...

More from hr dollar box: Proto Plvmb and P&C.. Two of each:

And this one could be a game changer at my Drill press for only three bucks!

An adjustable height stage. needs a knob, (easy) and I'll add a wood base, add an "anti spin" stick to that that can rest against the column, add a sacrificial board on top, and frame the top stage plate so it doesn't wander, and make a new fence fixture the same way. For most drilling where it just needs some support, not needing to have a stack of blocks to avoid having to move the table up and down on my current Rockwell (no table crank) will be an enormous time saver!

attachment.php

Last stop was planned. three files and an interesting old square. No visible makers marks on the square, but removing the crud/rust may reveal something. Files and rasp are all Nicholson. A buck each.

Here's my yard sale haul today.

Vintage 1930s? Craftsman 117.2102 rotary tool

C.A. Meyers Awl for All sewing awl in original box. I'd seen these mentioned here, i think by Outlaw, and had been on the lookout for one, and got lucky today.

$5 for the pair

Nice finds Guys! (glue is drying, short break...)

Dave does the awl have the needle inside the handle? (You did know it unscrews and had a compartment inside?)

Student. that torque tool is entirely mechanical so if the insides are clean and no burrs beat into the drive, it should be fine with a cleaning and light lube. If you want to send it in get a quote first. I sent one in to another company (Possibly the company SO uses..) and was told AFTER it got there there was a $70 fee just to open it. I let them keep it for their museum... (It was old..)

Sales around here seem to be gradually slowing down. Found four $2 ratchets and two $.50 screwdrivers. Also misc. chuck keys for $.25/ea.

Anyone know the OEM for John Deere USA ratchets?

P1090268.jpg

The JB 3 CFM vacuum pump and 6 pints of oil was $10.

What a locktease! That style of lock is called a push key. I have a few small ones made by Yale, but not one like yours :)

Couple finds from a second day estate sale. Pretty happy as I've been running dry for a while.
3/4 CM bench grinder.

Walk by this ax a couple times. Picked it up and seen the name and my grip tighten. Been looking for one for a while.

I wondered if/when you would show up. LOL.
I don't intend to hang on to it, so if you are interested let me know before it goes on Etsy.

I picked up one of those a month ago. Not sure if its USMC or just US. Have to check tomorrow. I kind of like them. I have it at work after making spare keys made.

Dave, I can't tell you who made the John Deere ratchets, but Thorsen guts fit right in. The Thorsen had dual pawls, but the JD has a single pawl. The selector knob is different.

I have a JD with a broken part in the mechanism, so I tried the Thorsen parts. I still haven't decided if I'm going to waste the Thorsen to fix the JD.

Looking good guys!

Davefr- that Deere is a Bonney.

Mopar Ken That's awesome. I'd love to know how those came available for free. I think suckage is in order but it looks more like work...

I went and explored another flea market today. Turned out there were plenty of tools including a couple surprise finds. Pics tomorrow hopefully.

That's a U **** right there, benders are worth more than $20. Looks like a smaller Ridgid (1/4"?) and larger Imperial Eastman (3/8"?).

That is now the 2nd one I have ever seen.
That's because they are fairly rare. These push key type padlocks are from WWI to interwar, not WWII. They were patented in early 1900's. I suppose they could be used for a footlocker or a sea bag, but I think they're overkill for either. I've seen 'USN' and also seem to recall seeing 'USN' versions out there marked with Navy terms for equipment cabinets or room names on a ship, underneath the 'USN.'
