ALL: talking about FREE building materials. these are located in a nice area of homes on a hillside so i didn't want to overload the Uhaul and run the stop sign at the bottom. about 2500 bricks that were an old 1930's street maybe before they became a patio and now mine.

some guys go to the gym and this is how i get my EXERCISE. it might take me 3 or 4 more trips.

not exactly sure what i'm going to do with them and my bride doesn't LOVE BRICK so we'll see.

One stop today, which turned into a return stop because I couldn't fit this into my Camry.

Metal cabinet with drawers for $35. It looks military. There are also the remnants of hinges on both sides which means it had doors at one time. Can anyone identify its original purpose?

Riley: I think your cabinets were made by Equipto for van shelving and parts bins so if you could maybe post up a few more pictures over on the vintage metal cabinet thread with dimensions we might find your answer if the GS guys here can't say.

hinges could have been for doors to keep stuff locked up, but i'd take the hinges off and find a spot for it. that CAMRY you haul this stuff in is AMAZING and just wondering if you've bought enough storage units or a shipping container to store all this stuff?

Scrolling through Letgo and came across this CM Drill press. I need a drill press like I need a hole in my head.

I'm a sucker for the over and long c logo, specially when its in the casting.

It's a sweet little press, nice and tight.

The lady seller was firm on her price, kept adding things to the package.

And some pipe clamps and a conduit bender.

She invited me to come back next week after she has a chance to sort through the rest of the garage. I look forward to it.

cbacres - Because it has 4 handles, I believe that that DP was made between '40-'42. If the original switch plate was oval, then 1940. If it was rectangular, then '41'/'42.
Take a look at the hole in the side of the head. An imprint in the paint may give you an indication which one was originally on the machine.

Congrats on finding one with the third pulley.

I had a fairly decent haul at my Early Bird flea market today

The big items:

- Sears & Roebuck 109.0703 light duty lathe. (1940's, not sure if it's badged Craftsman or DUNLAP yet.)

- Westinghouse Battery Charger. 7.5 to 15 DC / 115 AC. (I haven't even tried to date it yet, but it's freaking awesome!)

- Rock Island 503A vise. Open screw, swivel base, with a little hardie hole in the mini anvil!

- Near-complete ACTION 1/2-inch drive tool set. (Not like me to pick up chrome anything, but I really like the branding and the satin finish. The ratchet - open style with a simple pressure clip cover - has a sweet 'action' and the sliding tee is an interesting design for the stops on either end. Twelve sockets from 3/8" to 1-1/8", including a 21/ and 25/32", missing the 13/16" and 1.)

There're a few WWII GMTK sweet keepers in here I won't bore you with, and a few other intriguing things (alligator with a first-heard brand for me, weird-*** die stock, and a lucky coincidence hammer) and more that I will detail with photos later.

I checked the Action milk jug and I have a 1" socket part # 532A.

Found a few neat items at good prices last weekend...

3" Wilton 9300N made in the late 50's
Craftsman hand saw in near mint condition!
Small carpenter square with no branding that I can see.
Strate-Cut II, two piece aluminum straight edge that combined to a little over 8' I think (so you can rip a piece of plywood).
A few misc other...

Went back for half-price day and got the plastic bins for a quarter each, gun vise for like $4, a plumb bob and some little clamps (that went with the straight edge). Forgot to take a picture of a USA Stanley carpenter square I also got for $1. I left it there first day since I already have like 4 and figured someone else could use a good square for a good price. But nobody bought it so on the last day I grabbed it.

3 quick stops and a TOO this morning.
The first stop was the only hit. A retiring commercial electrician selling off some of his specialty tools. A few off-brand reciprocal saws, a couple of torpedo heaters, etc.
I gave a hard eyeball to the Greenlee hydraulic conduit bender in a small rolling job box, but I don't have a need to bend 3" conduit and I was afraid to ask the price. There was a nice rolling wire rack/dispenser that I passed on as well.

I have a question -

Is there a thread here where people trade tools? All the stuff I got is Standard, but all my cars and bikes are Metric.

Surely we all buy stuff that we can’t use, but that would make perfect trade material?

Jason, I had an earlier (47) 3" Wilton that I cleaned up and was considering using it as a light vise for my inside bench, but wound up being part of a trade I did this past summer. Its a good size.


LV, that craftsman looks like a RHFT? quick release? Nice finds!


Slow day here... only 2 planned stops:

The extension was from a TOO, and is a Proto 3/4 Drive 16" - $5

The Ice pick and Pliers were from the last planned stop, - an Estate sale, that I wen to to look at a key machine. They wanted 2 bills for it and the blanks. Too rich for my blood for hobby use...

Piers are Crescent Tool Co. (Jamestown) and unusual enough I grabbed them, the Ice pic may be of all things, the find of the day: Its a Winchester! A buck for both!


And the wicks were from a neighbor that was having a yard sale. a buck.

Hit a couple sales yesterday, not much, a Delta table saw on a Craftsman crown stand with a Delta 1 HP motor and some hole saws. Then today I went to 1 sale about 5 minutes from my house and hit the mother lode. Spent $23. yesterday and $95 today. Never heard of a pneumatic sawzall before, it's a Sioux. Couple brand new grinders in the box, 2 36" Reed aluminum pipe wrenches, don't think they've been used. Carbide tipped drill bits and all sorts of cool stuff. By the way, what does TOO stand for? Tried to do a search, but it wouldn't accept it.

Two planned stops yesterday/today. First sale last night after work was day 2 of a heavily photographed,lots o stuff sale .Found a few small odds and ends for $10:
Sockets from Proto LA,Plomb,Cornwell,wrenches from Mac,Cornwell,Bonney and OTC.Extensions,universal from Bonney & Mac.


Today's planned stop gained a Williams S-52 ratchet,Williams 3/8" breaker,Williams 2" extension, 4 Proto deepwell 1/2" dr sockets,Proto DOE,8" Crescent adjustable,Craftsman 3/8" RHFT,a wiggy tester and a Craftsman 1/4" speeder,which I don't believe I have ever came across another.All for $25.

Reed 204-1/2 vise, has some wear but all there, unbroken, and functional
Duplex Ft. Smith, Arkansas cantilever tool box no. 0514...interesting design...you push the handle down and it opens the box.
Truth USA IR22 ratchet 1/2, very good shape
Craftsman Vanadium 10" adjustable wrench with 5/8 broached hang hole, looks like a JP Danielson made per AA, dated 1940
Bonney A720 1/2 breaker bar

Edit: i also ended up with $40 profit from the items i traded. Not bad for 2 hrs of driving.

Today I came home quite happy. One stop had closed early, and I was unsure about the only other planned stop. It was an estate sale and the only mention of tools was a machinist scraper. And being in a 3rd floor condo, I was not really sure. I went anyway and stopped at a TOO on the way. Spent $5 on 3 oil cans and a pair of pliers. Battery pliers? Then on to the final sale. What a horder. And the guy running the sale claims to have dumped everything that had no perceived value. Any way, he showed me the tools. 2 roller cabinets and several totes mostly full of consumer type tools. But then the machinists tools. I only got stuff I will use, at least that's what I tell myself. Gauges, gauge blocks, 123 blocks, sine bars, etc. And a hand scraper. There was plenty of really good stuff left but money and space is at a premium. Hmm. Tapatalk is not playing nice with the pictures. But you can get the idea. Oh, and everything in pictures plus some more was less than $100.

Your right, it seems like every time you explore an old neglected box in a hidden spot on the floor, you come up with some amazing items.

It's also been a good reminder to all of us, which makes me think that even better treasures have been found by you sharing and giving us an example to follow.

Here's my take from last weeks estate sale.

This was a good stock up on aerosol products. Picked up some Aero Kroil, Silicon Kroil, ZEP spray brak clean and some other misc.

Can't turn down the $ 1 pliers and cutters.

A Wilton wood vise. Hey 3Bay, this was sitting right next to the anvil you bought!

This plier wrench is neat. Even has the price stamped in it.
