Today's flea finds. To the tune of $41

Armstrong curved wrench was $2, it has been marked $10 for several months and finally reduced today. What I noticed about it and maybe no one else did is a RR marking for New York Central System! If anyone is interested I can add a pic.

Craftsman trio, Thorsen 3/8, another S-K 1/4 (S-K on this one, the last one was S dot K), Broken 3/8 K-D, 1/4 Northern tool

Plomb PWA 7/8 socket- finally found one of these, Kobalt 21mm, Craftsman u joint, unmarked Basin wrench crow foot, Proto adapter and SK socket in blue,

Craftsman dent puller, Crescent 4 incher, a few Cornwell metric impacts

Went to a yard sale yesterday that turned out well. The prices were great.

The guy just didn't care much as he may be moving. I snagged a little bit of Snap On cheap.

The whole lot was about $12

Snap on pry bar, Kobalt 3/8 twist ratchet, Blackhawk long 1/2" with a broken drive square, 1/4 Evolve, 1/4 Ace, 1/4 Ampro.

The sockets by group are large pile no name and cheap, Kobalt, 5 Kraeuter, mixed USA bunch, Snap On group including swivel impact.

Lots of misc bits.

Does anyone recognize the set of collets?



A small side box. Repainted. Snap On or no?

I paid 20 for it.

hopefully someone from here will go and give us a report and pictures. If there is a bit you are missing from just about any collection, it is likely to be there!

i am surprised it is not an online auction seems like that would be the best way to realize the value - but the overhead of cataloging, running the auction, and shipping would like be huge. I would still think it would be worth it to do an online auction of the best stuff and estate sale our the rest. Hopefully someone gets some bargains!

i am surprised it is not an online auction seems like that would be the best way to realize the value - but the overhead of cataloging, running the auction, and shipping would like be huge. I had a great weekend. I got the NOS lucas lights for $10 each and the unknown ceramic pieces I think might be tumbler barrels for $10 each.
Then the NOS Wilton vise for $40, this was unopened and very fun to open and see how it held up for so many years stored in a basement. And then the lightly used and NOS Starrett items and other misc items set me back another $50.

Looks like the box says 81A, but there is a 91A in this catalog. Apparently they called it a Universal Turret Vise.

Hate to see that place (compound they called it!) get torn apart. It already looks like the perfect home for all that stuff. What a museum.

Cool I see now zooming in the box says 91A not 81.

There isn't a date aywhere. Have to go by the ladies' hairstyles. What say you guys?

My take from the flea market today. A very complete Cole drill, strangely this is the second one I found this month. Nice heat gun, made in USA, Dunlap ratcheting screwdriver, step pulley, tap wrench, couple lathe boring bars and a fly cutter and a can of Butchers Wax. Oops, should have said collars. I think they are just stop collars for drill bits, there are seven pieces, and they have set screws. Sorry bout that.

They started making them in the late 50's. Another vise maker (Sheldon?) made the early ones, Wilton apparently bought the rights including the patent.

I had two of them, still have one.

Is there a part number on that guy? I could be way off, but I only recall seeing later Superjustables with the lock pin. The wrenches with stamped lettering, not raised lettering like that. The pin usually has a head to it too.

It was the first find of the day, I was really excited. after turning over three china and Taiwan, the last one was Bonney! the Walden adjustable has a really close to PLOMB pebble background! cant even find any other pics of them.. weird.

The coil of rope is probably the best thing in the haul. It's about 55 feet of used 1-inch genuine manila. It will be turned into two (2) authentic 24-foot tow ropes, with eyes braided onto each end, each braid further secured with whipping made from strands of the same rope. They will go quick and soon be wrapped around the bumper of a WWII Jeep. I haven’t made any in a few years and I get requests all the time. But I won't make them out of new rope.

The thirteen (13) 1/2-inch drive sockets in a row are all Cornwell 12-point openings, 1/2" to 1-1/4". The four (4) 3/8-inch drive sockets near the bigger end are also Cornwell. As are the long extension and the male-to-female universal joint. Yeah, I was excited.

The Sliding Tee and the female-to-female uni joint are very early production Snap-On. No date codes. No model numbers.

The brass drift is unbranded.

The little 45* offset dwarfie is a 3/8 x 7/16 unbranded Barcalo.

The DOE is a script Herbrand VAN-CHROME 1723.

The file cleaner (with pick!) is an ACE Wire Brush Company with an 11-digit (1950's) FSN (7924--224-7887)

The compound snips are not branded.

The little waterpump pliers are Channellock No 426.

The other groping of mixed 1/2- and 3/8-drive miscellaneous sockets in the upper right corner includes a Plomb 5424, a Snap-On F-240 with a "G" (1945) code, and a weird 6-pointer, marked "NO GUAR 7/16 S 9702". WTF? Oh, and the extra deep socket on its side with no knurling is one of those mystery [S.R.] marked sockets - 11/16". I've got a set going.

The little thumbscrew pipe cutter (No. 2107), the pliers (No. 8) and the valve guide driver (11/32") are all new entries for K-D wing of the Lugzsonian.

And last but not least, the funky looking totally tubular offset socket wrenches are genuine Braunsdorf-Mueller. These were made in New Jersey in the 1920's. I just found my first one a few weeks ago and started a thread here. It's that GJ Garage Sale "streak" magic at work!

Picked the following up from two estate sales today. Craftsman Metric =V= set in the pouch, missing the 6-8mm wrench, an extra 17-19, and a 22-24mm wrench. Starret no.230 micrometer, Sargent hole punch, screw extractors, and some small router bits. Just under $20 for all.

Snap On Blue Point Adj Wrench. Lucky find at thrift store. Wasn't on a mission for tools, but I never skip the aisle with that kind of thing. Interesting reading on alloy-artifacts. Figured $2.19 was an OK enough price to not even google it.

I've got a couple Plombs that were clearly made on the same tooling as yours, and a couple of other makes. Very much a tool of the past.

Hmmm, okay, I'll have to think about that. How do I snap photos of something that takes two hands to do?! Might be easier to just Google. Braiding how-to diagrams are out there. Whipping, too. The process is the same as repairing a cracked hammer or shovel handle with light gauge wire. But okay, I'll think about how to capture it step by step.
