The Viking is strange wrench, I like to pick up weird stuff if its a buck. The guy I bought the MHT Co. wrench from told me it was Massey Ferguson.. before the Ferguson... not sure if hes correct on that or not. But, that was his story. It was a buck and different so in the back pack it went! I have a pretty big box of american made wrenches i throw all of them in. One day I'll have enough to cover a wall!

So his idea is Massey-Harris? I don't know.
The guy on eBay says his is Myers Hay Tool , which matches the M.H.T. Co. abbreviation on some old hay carriers, but would think those were older. And that doesn't fit with the actual company name, F.E. Myers & Bro.,who sold hay tools etc.
I wanted to be certain it wasn't McKaig-Hatch of Buffalo. They were McKaig Hatch Inc. though, and look nothing like it.

Just a little wrench mystery. I wonder if anyone else might weigh in.

This sounds like a job for Twertsy and Woody.

24 of the files I recently snagged, ranging from a 16" cut length Stiletto to a 4" Grobet. Nearly all branded USA made: Simonds, Nicholson, Disston and the like. The best part ... FREE. Leftovers after the sale (which I missed). Have much more to come from this freebie honey hole, taking awhile to get it all cleaned up.

Trijeff, what are you using to hold those files in place?

So embarrassed to say but, since I don't yet have a proper storage situation yet for these newly acquired tools and I don't want to lay them on each other, I used what I had on hand. Part of the Xmas light packaging!!! LOL

Well you suckabunch! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I went to the Canton Tx Flea Market this past weekend. Found a few goodies.

#1 best find was a Craftsman 5196 Vise. I saw it on the guy's table and I figured it would be out of my price range but I asked for a price anyway. It took every ounce of poker face in me to not show any excitement when he said $45! :pimpflash :rocker: I looked it over real good to make sure it didn't have anything wrong with it and then offered the guy $40. He took it

Other than being a bit dirty, it's in great shape. It's my first real quality vintage vise find and I'm very happy with it. Thanks GJ for teaching me what to look for.

At another booth I found a pair of Knipex Cable Cutters for $15. Model # is 95 12 200. The comfort grip handle on one side has a crack in it, but I still thought it was a good buy for 15 bucks since they sell for over $50 on Amazon.

i-h8gFTQ6-M.jpg

My last decent find was a complete set of Allen Keys in the original box. The box is not in great shape, but I'm a sucker for rusty stuff. I got the guy down to $10.

You **** majorly for the 5196 find! Real low price on what will probably become your favorite vise!

Thats what the Tool vendor at the little flea told me. When I asked about the makers mark, he sad its Massey- Ferguson, before Ferguson. He seems to be fairly knowledgeable about things. But, never know. I on the other hand have no clue. I liked the looks of it no matter, and I didnt have one. I do seem to find alot of weird stuff though! : )

Man it was 25F this morning and all the tools were outside under a carport! Brrr cold!

Anyhow, managed everything in the picture for $40, somehow a little Starrett 436-1in mic wasn't in the pic, but that was part of the group too... The little Reed was in really super shape... Sharp jaws, no dents, handle perfect shape... Can't wait to spiff that little one up!

Guy had all Williams wrenchs & sockets, but nothing in a complete set... Dunno... Grabbed what was in good shape. Looking at the bag of sockets there were 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" drive, but only a 1/2" drive ratchet was there... lol... go figure...

The Roxco pipe wrench was just too cool to pass up, Good little assortment of nut drivers, Klein & Williams & one other USA brand (forgot name). Also one of those Harris hammers with the multiple screwdrivers all in the base (amazingly they were all there too). Greelee box has some bit brace augers in it.

I made sure to smell the can of mineral spirits. One time I bought a can without checking and I opened it up... WHEW it stank! I think he must have mixed in paint thinner or turpentine or something.

I'm not real sure what the scissors are for. They are big and beefy. What caught my eye was the brass middle. I'm guessing for shearing sheep or maybe commercial use for fabric like in a factory?

I went through all the tool stuff and then walked through the house some to warm up. I was joking with the estate sale people they should have had some hot coffee going and they could sell that like crazy. I was kind of tempted to just start brewing a pot, there was a coffee pot on the counter (for sale), and a can of coffee in the pantry! lol...

Made another pass through all the tool stuff, lots of neat little things but nothing I needed or could really use so I left it for someone else that might need it. I try not to hog all the goodies. Someone did grab a couple nice old wooden molding planes literally seconds before I got to that section of the table! Argh!

It was a beautiful house right on the lake. Driveway was very very steep getting down, and carrying all my stuff up I had to stop a couple times. Between how steep it was and the super cold weather... and my fat *** being out of shape... lol...

Anyhow, after leaving that sale I went to another one just a couple miles down the road. Prices were stupid high, except this 36" clamp (looks new) was decent for $5. Even some junky small pipe clamps they had sitting in the corner they wanted $7 each for...

That was about the only two sales going on. I think things are kind of winding down for the year.

Jason- nicely done. Heck of a deal with that vise in there for 40 bucks.

I checked out a pawn shop today and picked out this bunch for $13.

The top tool is different. Don't know what to call it and no markings. I think it's for panel/trim plastic fasteners. It has a 1/4 drive operated screwdriver socket built in.

Marples chisel.
Matco torx screwdriver.
Husky 1/2" ratchet.
Klutch ratchet, dual sided with 1/4 square drive and 1/4 bit drive.
Snap On window crank tool-
I have a shorter more ridgid one, K-D I believe, that proved itself indispensable. On one vehicle alone I used it so many times for broken door springs, replacing a damaged crank, repairing the lock cylinder and door after break in too. I love that tool.

That wheel well trim tool is a neat find, 3eeb. I'd wish I had a third arm using it, but neat.

Not much for me today at either of my Early Birds. See thumbnails.

I was happy with the OTC strap wrench and the engineers' wrench - which is a wartime FairmounT 27-C. The unmarked 3/8-inch hinge handle and the slip joints were "curiosity" purchases.

I must have at least a half dozen hinge handles in 1/4-inch drive size that are identical to this one - and I am convinced they are SK made.

The pliers are marked PESCO. Under that they are marked P.S. & W. Co. This does not compute. Unless there was another vintage hand tool maker with the same exact initials as Peck, Stow, and Wilcox, their abbreviated trademarked name was PEXTO, not PESCO. So this is going to be a little WTF? preoccupation for me today.

anytime I find unmarked tools I say to myself "Must beIndesrto" : ) I found a really nice old 1/2 breaker bar that's got no markings I'm curious about.

The real downer: there is this massive antique trunk at the sale with books on top. I asked what's in the trunk. The woman says it's full of antique tools that are NFS, the family is keeping them.

Found a craftsman radial arm saw, drill press(with slow speed pulley) and two grinders on Craigslist. Paid the seller the $125 asking price. Saw is part of the recall and box is on the way and I’ll get $100 back.

Not bad for $25!

Scored all this the past few weeks ! Scored the large wire brush, plomb dbe, singer tiny oil can and plomb "awl"[emoji36] and dykes at an estate sale for $15... The dykes were in such good shape I couldn't say no! My brother had the 1/2 drive metric v rated cman sockets and I have been needing some replacements !

Finally got out to a few local sales today. Didn't find much, but I did pick up this 50's craftsman box for 4 bucks. The stuff inside cost another 5. Lots of fun for under 10 dollars!

Jason, Nice scores for the wind down!

3bay, No clue on the odd tool. :dunno: Cool Scores!

Lugs I think you hit it on the PEXTO's

Matt, that's suckage for the quick return on most of what you spent!

Smoke, hiting it big on the Plvmb this late in the season!

Catfish, what was inside the box? :see:

Chris, is someone actually had a NEED for a 35 ft lathe, that's probably a great deal!

Not a bad day for only three planned stops and no TOO's!

Stop one was a waste of time; stop two was one of my regulars and for $2 picked up the craftsman Saltus, and the two Indestro plain shank combos.

The rest of everything in all the pics were from the Estate sale.

Third day, picked over; he had a complete wood shop in the back yard, leather working bench in the garage, she had whole rooms set aside for collectibles, and on half price day the place was a bit of a shambles. Most of the power tools were Grizzly or similar imports, so I wan't interested, but there were other good finds:

Xcelite sanding blocks (not sure if its complete or missing pieces..), Dowel Centers the curved pliers nippers, but nothing was under the surface rust, so no name or possibly laser etched and rusted off? :dunno: brass fittings, Gouge sharpening stones, Craftsman crown label 1/16 to 1/4 drill index (only one bit) sharpener guides for wood chisels and the knife guide is Lansky. Some one, (Lugz?) jsut got one as a complete set?

attachment.php

Cigar box full of Keyway Cutter (four sizes), five Reams, and three end mils.

attachment.php

A mini Flagpole (I have two now...) this one is silver plated, and a mini Hurricane Candle holder.

attachment.php

Last but far from least is a zero Halliburton aluminum case! Before there was Pelican, Zero was THE case to have if you wanted a non industrial looking case.

I'l have to think about what to use this one for as it has the settable combo lock and everything!

All told for the Estate sale was $25!

I totally get that Lugz, and I used to spend inordinate amounts of time getting my blade edges just so. It took patience, an assortment of stones, ceramic and once upon a time, I would finish on glass.

I tried the crossed sticks, wet stones oils stones, and others, but this guide system makes it so I can get the job done in jig time, with an accurate and repeatable angle, and rarely a slip, (half severed the tendon on top of my left index once about thirty years ago... many stitches and at least two years to get full use of the finger back after that stunt, partly from the tendon damage and partly from 6 weeks in a finger splint...)

These days I have this take on it: I would not use a table saw without a fence or miter, how is getting an accurate angle on the edge of my knives any different? Even with the guide, it takes practice to get it working satisfactory, and without too much change of slicing yourself...

Anyway, to each his own for knife sharpening. Similar to sharpening drill bits. Some insist by eye is the only way...

I did find one Yard sale today; I was hesitant to go (again) as he'd posted ads several times and was a no show, but it sounded like potentially a good one...

THIS time they were "open"! Lots to ferret through, but mostly junk I wasn't interested in.

This is what I came home with for $6:

An 8" Dia, shallow Aluminum Dutch oven (not sure what else to call it...) by Diamond Craft. First one I've ever seen: :dunno:

attachment.php

Included was what I put inside it: A fair number of 1/4" brass fittings (It's been Brass fitting restocking this weekend...) the PG&E First Aid tin, Similar to one I got a few weeks ago, (different latch), a Stanley No. 6 awl, and an Urn Spigot.

I finally found my Holy Grail. Paid quite a bit for this saw but it is in spectacular shape. I will be buying a 42" bar for it:rocker:
For anyone who doesn't know this saw it is a Husqvarna 2100CD. It has a 99cc engine and can take up to a 60" bar:shocking:

And i thought my 181 was heavy!

I have my doubts about cooking in aluminum, but that oven is a thing of beauty.

D42Jeep alerted me to an estate sale I was able to hit on my way to a job. I clearly had missed the shiny things so I ended up with this;
Old leather handle SK box, no-name file card, a DeVilbiss 'stream oil gun' that nearly works, and a few wine glasses. the 41 Power Wagon was a great candidate, but I have no space for such things:(.

I saw it 454; I mentioned the Lansky Knife sharpening holder/guide, and he quoted it, and said "not me". Maybe I wasn't clear enough that I was talking a sharpening guide for a knife? (not tool knives/blades - but pocket and fixed blade knives....)

I don't know, as I read it Lugz quoted you as saying you thought he had just picked one up, and he was replying, that no, not him, he hadn't just picked one up.

Guess the best would be for Lugz to say what he meant.

Outlaw,

454 is correct. I was replying to this...

...brass fittings, Gouge sharpening stones, Craftsman crown label 1/16 to 1/4 drill index (only one bit) sharpener guides for wood chisels and the knife guide is Lansky. Some one, (Lugz?) jsut got one as a complete set?

...and I meant that it wasn't me who you were thinking of that just got "one as a complete set". I'm still not sure what you were you referring to. A complete set of what? Sharpener guides for chisels? Or Lansky knife sharpening guides? But either way, it wasn't me.

OK, my mistake; I misread Lugz intent. I thought he was saying he would never USE a sharpening guide for knives... :D

And JMLangford was the guy that posted the earlier one:

LS lansky sharpening kit with course, medium, and fine stones....$2

And here is a pic of how the blade vise and guide align the stone to the blade. Awesome sharpening tool as I said. I do note however the geometry of the Lansky guide to the smith stone and rod is different than the Smith stones I'm showing, as at the sharper angles, the stone would hit the blade vise..

You can get many different stones for these, including diamond, regular stones, V shaped stones for serrated blades, Alumina ceramic, etc...

$60 off Facebook marketplace. I stopped by an out of the way pawnshop and picked up these for $5 not a screaming deal but I wasn’t about to haggle over it. I do find the wrench interesting as I couldn’t tell who made it even.
