While I agree that so,etc,es great deals are taken by employees, especially when they spot them doing ign price changes, with low quantities it is most often "shrink", meaning a bad count due to either cashier screw ups or items being lost or stolen. This is especially true if it has been a while since the stores last inventory.

My comments as someone who has retail experience. :)

Spot on.

A lot of stores are having issues with retail theft like people hiding merchandise, etc. Lowes seems to be fairly active in tracking this down and dealing with it - is your DM not following policy?

Lowes in its grand wisdom has eliminated all the dept. mang. positions company wide. Gave us 1 year to find a new position in the company, unfortunately this also comes with a BIG cut in pay, if we can't find a new position they are going to terminate us, the date this will happen is Jan 28, I will be looking for a new job after 10 years. *****. Now its a lot harder to monitor. I don't look at "hiding" merchandise as retail theft, unless it doesn't get paid for, we look at it as short term layaway. Please don't get me wrong, the only time something like this will happen is when something goes on a 75-90% clearance. Each store is different. When something goes 90% clearance usually a junk man comes in a buys everything and nobody gets a shot at it. Example: A couple of years ago we had a Hitachi sanding station go clearance cost was $179 and it went to $129, I was telling people that even at $129 it was a great deal, cust. would say "I'll wait till it goes lower, my response was it was the only one left. It went down to $50 and nobody wanted it. The next week the girl who changes prices was putting a tag for $17 on it and I said its mine, I put it back until my shift was over, thats what I'm talking about. Company policy prohibits us from shopping on company time, so does that make us exempt from clearance prices? I can't speak for all employees but the ones I managed followed the rules but we were not so tight assed that it was unreasonalbe, if there were 10 items left, don't take all 10. Don't hide it and wait for the price to go down before you buy. Our store we try to be fair. Now is a great time to get deals on tools that are left over from X-mas and Black Friday, most are 50%-75% off.

Was at one of my lowes and found these, been waiting for them to drop...

The price is actually like $50, looks like they have been neglecting the BBQ area (with christmas it doesn't surprise me)...

Would be kind of fun to take on a camping trip...

That sounds completely fair to me. What irks me is that my last order is still active/processing and was never cancelled. They told me in store that it was cancelled a week ago after driving 30 min out of my way to get it. Top it off with Brickseek still showing qty of 1 (lowes took it off the website the next day). Learned my lesson though and will no longer order clearance online.

No. That’s not fair at all. For all you know, Your whole predicament was created by a manager just like him, who violated policy, and hid your item off the sales floor so he could buy it himself after his shift. By his own admission, employees are not permitted to shop during shift. By definition, selecting and hiding an item to be bought later is in fact shopping. I wonder how many paying customers have been left with a bad taste in their mouths, because they were called and told the item they ordered was not in stock, only to have him pull it out of his hiding spot and buy it at the end of his shift?

This is what happened to me the last two times. Driving there, sitting in traffic and not told till after waiting in line. Was never called to be told they canceled my order.

While hopefully it was just a mishap on there side and not employees justifying self rewards. It's pretty frustrating to experience it, especially since five orders in a row were canceled when there were multiple amounts of them in stock.

Either way, Life is too short for that BS.

My local Lowes has been fine with online orders. Ordered clearance items online and most times its ready for p/u and sometimes I get the cancellation call. Fair enough as I'm usually notified or better yet substituted another product. Occasionally store-specific special clearance deals in the store make the trip worth it.

Even when employees aren't intentionally hiding items, it's staggering how much stuff gets genuinely accidentally misplaced... I've seen whole large appliances - not on clearance - get lost in the Lowes back room, sometimes located after hours or days of looking, sometimes never.

No employee should be allowed to hide anything in my opinion. At most you should be able to call a friend or family member to come to the store and purchase an item for you. Even being able to do that is huge advantage when it comes to scoring a deal. Employees are without a doubt buying the majority of stuff that drops really low in price. I don't bother looking for anything locally anymore. It's hidden well before it drops 99% of the time.

Seriously men?
All this complaining over not getting a deal . . .
Simple solution, don't go until you get a pickup confirmation or stop expecting something for almost nothing?

All these deals are hit or miss. Isn't that the fun of the hunt, scoring what nobody else has found?

Dept managers getting laid off is fair to you not getting your bargain?

No I was agreeing with you.
I never get a pickup confirmation so I would be waiting forever.

First, that’s not at all what lafester meant. Funny that you would quote him for ridicule about something he didn’t say.

Second, this manager knowingly violated company policy, and fostered an environment where his employees were empowered to do the same, all by his own admission. In case you don’t know, it’s his job to do just the opposite. To answer your question: no, this manager shouldn’t get laid off next month because someone didn’t get a deal. He should have been fired, likely long ago, for cause.

In any case, I won’t be clogging up this thread with any more of this nonsense.

Just wanted to pop in and let y'all know I found two (2) of the Irwin 8" diagonal cutting pliers - the German made ones, at my local lowes. The clearance tag said they were like $22 down from $40 or whatever but when I took them to an employee for a price check they ended up being $10... if anyone wants one and is located in MN PM me for location.

I tried to quote this to the last guy who was talking about them in this thread, but, I went back 2-3 pages and didn't see it, seems like this thread has kinda lost its way....

I am new here, very new, and I don't wanna make enemies or take a side, and I don't know what the norm is here, but, should a deal thread not just be posts about deals? I would think the long heated discussions on a stores policies or whatnot would be better discussed elsewhere.

Again, just my thoughts and I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone on here, but, as a new member, I for one would prefer coming to the deals thread and finding deals without the need to sort through a cat fight to find them.... sorry if that's harsh.

More deals, less squeals. That should be the motto ;) Hope no one takes offense as none was meant! Have a happy New Year GJ members!

Some of the upstate NY stores had those all the way down to $3.60. Not sure if any stores have any left though.
