For sure the 2763 high torque unit is a big one and a total beast of a tool compared to any of the M18 compacts and the M12 impacts.

Each has a place including the new mid torque unit

That is the old 2655B 1/2 inch next to the 2763 in this picture and the new 2754 is just slightly smaller. I almost often use a smaller compact battery on the 3/8"

So is the consensus that it's worth getting the 2754 (3/8" impact) even if I already have the old (2663) and new (2763) 1/2" Hi-Torque impacts as well as the hex impact and numerous other M18 drills/saws/etc.?

The main appeal for me is the extra compactness - does anyone have a side by side picture of them both? I don't mind the weight of the 2663/2763...but it is bulky and is hard to use for some of the more restricted areas of the things I work on.

$320 on ebay before the $50 off. That makes it about the same, but then you have ebay bucks & if you use ebates, up to another 5% back

Hmm..I've got an extra hex impact now that I got the surge, was debating selling the old 2653. Maybe it can find a new purpose. I'm usually spinning sockets vs screws anyways. though I already have the 2654.

Generally, and this is just in my experience, anything that is that big (19mm head or bigger) I can pretty much always get my 2663 or 2763 on and really, the 2754 - at only 210lb-ft - isn't gonna have enough power that it's making much more torque than I can easily put into a wrench or breaker bar.

So, I think the 3/8" would work better for me as I'd really be mainly using it for stuff smaller than 19mm. Also, I could convert my 1/4" Hex (the older M18 one, non-Fuel) but we actually use it a fair bit so unless I got a newer version of it I wouldn't want to swap for the anvil. It is a good suggestion though and if I really wanted to save money I could just swap anvils as necessary but that's too much of a hassle.

Also, thanks to whoever posted the $275 deal on the 2754-22. You're making my life much more difficult! I suppose the 2 5.0 batteries is worth the $66 increase (or $60, if through eBay) over the kit with the 2 2.0 batteries but I didn't want to spend the extra money!

Thanks for the heads up. I do see the free battery deal but don't see the $20 off $100 offer anywhere. I can't even find a page on Milwaukee's site that lists their current promotions and I've been searching for a while.

Probably won't bite at ACME though - $269 is already stretching things, $309 is basically 50% more than I wanted to spend ($209 for the 2754-22CT kit). Good deal for someone with more extra cash to burn.

I think I'm inclined to agree with you here as the only reason I would get this is to fit in places my 2663 and 2763 are too big or too ungainly to work in. I have enough of the 3.0/4.0/5.0 batteries between all my tools that I wouldn't be at a loss for batteries if I needed something bigger. Although I wouldn't mind keeping some 5.0's in other kits and throwing some of the 2.0's in this. May get the bigger kit just to have the nicer batteries in my arsenal.




Also, how big is the 2861 compared to the 2754 (and 2763)?

I wish instead of picking tools like this, they'd allow you to TRULY build your own promos. IE, you could pick the 9.0 battery and rapid charger off the shelf and two tools and get the kit price or whatever. I know it'd complicate the advertising and they make money selling the kits and then making people buy bare tools full price, just like socket sets... but with the size of these systems I think people would actually end up buying more tools.

And I wish there were great deals on bare tools if you bought 2-3 at a time. I have like 7-8 9.0 batteries, a ton of 5.0s, and all the chargers I could ever need... just need more tools

Yes...I also wish you could get the bare tool with the hard case. As you mentioned, once you have enough batteries and chargers you don't need more, but I DO want hard cases for everything if they have them.

Its an interesting design not much longer than a compact only by an inch or so but has much more girth, and it's "blocky" design is similar to the high torque. And of course weight falls in between the two leaning more to the heavier side IMO.

There have been some good comparative photos posted in the Milwaukee Addiction forum so maybe post over there for some more responses.

Seeing those pictures definitely does not make my decision any easier. It's also crazy to me that the 2861 which is the mid-torque is rated to easily out-do my old 2663 'Hi-Torque' 1/2" impact. Progress!

Ok, I went back to page 18, and I found guys talking about comparing it to the their gas string trimmers, when and if they ever tried their Milwaukee one. But haven't seen anyone comment on actual use of the m18 trimmer or blower....just I'll maybe try it this weekend. Just trying to see if I should get in on this deal or not. I'm skeptical of the cordless idea, but like the idea.

I've used the string timmer and hedge trimmer now.

It kicked the **** out of my Ryobi 18+ system hedge trimmer.
It was very comparable to my EGO 56V string trimmer. I noticed no real difference. I'm torn on whether or not to keep it.

If you're already invested in M18 and want more then go ahead and pull the trigger. but right now home depot has many EGO items on sale, cheaper than Milwaukee and comes with a battery. They are top of their class for a reason.

The EGO's are considered better. 56V with a longer runtimes. Lighter weight. Same or better power as the new Fuel. You can get a tool+battery for $150

So for the same price as the milwaukee deal you can get two batteries, two tools. Sure its not a 9AH battery, but with more voltage you need less AH for usage. My ego string trimmer runs over an hour on a charge. EGO also has much higher capacity batteries and a more powerful blower(But more expensive)

Personally I still love Milwaukee and I'll be selling my EGO tools as I need any of their other OPE tools but I do see myself investing more in M18

I am very pleased with our M18 string trimmer. It's light, quiet and cuts good. Only problem is getting the bump feed to advance the line. I have to stop it, manually depress the button and then pull the line out.

I've heard similar. Except what I was told was that the plat form might end up like what Ego and ryobi have currently with their expand-it attachments.
So for us with first gen trimmers we might be SOL. But whatever I've been told by reps a take with a grain of salt. I think people in this thread are more informed and aware of updates then this poor reps.

I saw it online today, but stopped by local HD after work and they still had them in stock
