Yessir. Old school meat council - beef, veal, lamb, & pork. If interested, I could try to photo them, they are quite informative.
I've eaten my share of grass fed beef outa that cooler.

I dunno how well you can photograph them through all the obstacles, but if you feel like trying... :)

Yessir it is. I wasn't exactly sure what I bought - Craigslist - but I was hoping it had some age leaning toward some quality, hopefully.
IIRC, it is a fair machine and should fit in just great. Starts & runs but needs some serious elbow grease.
I'll clear some **** and get some photos tomorrow.

57 year old Scotch purchased at a garage sale and found stored next to a vise.
:lol_hitti

That's gotta be some kind of crazy first for this thread. I am truly amazed and it inspires me to keep digging at future sales.

You definitely **** for that purchase Marty.

Thanks for checking in, Corndoggeh! That's one name I can scratch off my list.

I didn't know there was a fan base! :lol_hitti

Anyhow, heres the first few finds from the past.

Baldor dental lab buffer - $30

I love these older dental buffers and Ive used them plenty of times in the past working in a dental lab, thus one doesnt have the quick release chuck but i dont think ill be switching wheels/pieces often enough

Craftsman 10" woodworking vise, barely used - $50

A little on the mid-high end for eastcoasters but vises like these on the west cost go about double to triple what I paid on craigslist.

Craftsman breaker bar 1/2" ratcheting attachment -$2

Ive been wanting one of these for a long time, ended up finding it at my favorite used tool store. It wasnt seized or anything and works flawlessly.

Marty: AMAZING FINDS as per usual. you know most of us or maybe just me in my part of the country would spend the time digging and finding cool stuff and get to the checkout gal or guy and they'd say $100 or $200 or say thanks for finding that and it's not for sale. there are a few owners that aren't that way, but a lot of the sales in my area are run kinda like an Ebay auction where they put the prices way up so 1/2 price day is about full price.

SWEET FIND and did you open up and have a taste of one yet?

ALL: I found a reason to go see Riley in Portland to bring him something he had me pick up a few months ago so he picked these up for me. yes like Merc and others have mentioned I (we) do have a disease, but I LOVE THESE OLD METAL CABINETS. it will be nice to catch up with Riley and chat about all his adventures if he doesn't give me that cold he just picked up. all the drawers were there and 3 just missing in the picture. also i'm not exactly sure how Riley got them in his Camry, but i've seen some of the things he picks up and he's AMAZING. thanks Riley!!

these are a little bigger (30 bins each) than the ones i usually find with 18 bins each.

TIP: dress warm for winter PICKING cause even if the juices are flowing inside your body can't fight off some of those temps we all seem to end up in.

Thanks Lugz. Got to admit the hunt and the score is a lot of fun. Learning good things from this thread and hopefully 2018 will be productive.

So I went for a walk around the property and came across this in an old scrap heap that has been tucked away for some time.
Anybody recognize it or know how it originally looked?
Just curious, but it might be a fun project.417977ffa0ed6f4533b5a9a5e4185fb4.jpg

I'm not familiar with it and didn't find anything online about it, but wanted to reply with the words on it typed out, so it will be findable if someone else ever searches for it like I tried. :)

This is today's flea market finds.....
WTH7.jpg

This S-K set was what first caught my attention on the table (of course it wasn't straighten out like this originally....everything was just kinda thrown in the box)
I quickly shuffled stuff around and saw that it was the older S-K Wayne and it look like maybe all the pieces (plus extras) was there.....the price....$6 bucks!....I told him I'd take it ;) so he gave me a bag....
This guy had some large Proto & Mac wrenches (1 1/8" - 1 1/16" etc) plus a large 6 drawer tool box full of Craftsman, mac, some snap-on, more loose S-K, etc.....so, I told him I wanted to look around and maybe add to it....
WTH1.jpg WTH2.jpg

There was a lot more goodies I might could have found if I had dug longer, but I rounded up the rest of what you see and showed him and said "Howzabout $6 bucks for all this added to the $6 bucks already for $12 total?"....He said "O.K".
I couldn't find any markings on the little ball peen hammer although it seems to be a quality tool...
WTH3.jpg WTH4.jpg WTH5.jpg

The S-K Wayne set has an older diamond SK extension in the set, then I found a diamond SK breaker bar in the rest of the tools....Wish I could have found more of the diamond SK.

First weekend out of the year. I slacked off pretty hard in the latter part of 2017, but my first weekend finds have got me all charged up.

Hobart Handler 140, $100 No gas regulator, just the welder with a roll of flux core in it. I have a regulator that will work on it, so no biggie there. Family run estate sale. There was a picture in the add of some junk in the garage, but nothing that looked great. It was close to my house, so I went anyways. Maybe 10 people showed up, and they all went for the house. I of course headed straight to the garage. No haggling, that was the price on it, and I just grabbed it. It works, and looks barely used.

Drill doctor 750, same sale, still sealed in the box, never used. $15

Not a tool, but in the work shed behind the garage of the same sale. Old Benjamin Franklin pellet gun. No price on it, so I asked how much. $1, it does not work, and the leather cup seal is rotted out, but for $1, I had to take it home.

Can that pellet gun be repaired easily? Pretty cool find!

Ok...so I'm confused. This is the 2018 Garage Sale Thread but I see people posting CL finds. So am I missing something or should this be called the 2018 Great Finds Thread? :)

Two things are guaranteed on GJ: being told to buy more tools, and threads becoming hijacked and so off topic as to be useless. I don't mind the more tools part.

Yeah. $12.00
This is serious "you sick" territory. Nice score dude.
Bill

Thanks for the suckage, Bill.....Along with some nice tools, the seller and his father also had a complete sound system they were selling....a huge road case with a large mixer board on top and 5 or 6 rack mounted amps, sound modules, etc, two 15" and two 12" Yamaha loudspeakers, all the stands, shure mics, wireless mic units, 2 plastic tubs of heavy duty cables......
While I was there looking thru the tools, an older couple pulls up and hands the guy $1200 for everything (they had gone to an ATM to get the rest of the cash)....so I waited patiently until they had loaded all the gear into their SUV and when he got a spare moment, I hit him with the $12 total deal (timing is everything ;))....He was on a money high, so $12 seemed reasonable...
:3gears:

Look back over past years of the Garage Sale threads, you will see finds from all kinds of places:
garage sales
thrift shops
swapmeets
boot sales ? [england]
flea markets
dumps
scrapyards
junkyards
pawnshops
Craigslist
freebies
building cleanouts
KAJIJI
T.O.O. [target of opportunity]
piles of stuff left on the curb
neighbors moving
and more
Pretty much where ever you find a deal.

I like estate sales over garage sales--you tend to find the honey holes of tools, and the prices are usually ten cents on the dollar.

However, as previously stated, this annual thread welcomes all "previously experienced, garage-related" deals.

From Post 1 in the thread, bold added for emphasis:
..."What’s your “go to” source? (We have a rather inclusive and “Big Tent” definition of “Garage” here in GarageSaleThreadLand!) Come Thursday night, do you find yourself reading Garage, Yard, and Estate Sale ads in the local newspaper and deciphering them into a driving map of your prioritized listings for the weekend? Or are you the kind of guy (or gal! we are an Equal Opportunity thread!) constantly hitting your favorite Pawn Shops and Habitat for Humanity ReStore stops? Do you prefer trolling the Flea Markets and the Car “Boot” or “Jumble” (that’s “trunk” and “swap meet”, respectively, for you unwitting ‘Mericans out there!) sales? Or do you dig digging through the town dump or trekking through the woods to the secret ravine in the back 40?"...

I was disappointed that the local flea markets were closed last weekend due to the bitter cold, but am excited at prospects for the upcoming weekend.

Some guys do consider paging through CL and eBay to be like walking through a garage, yard, or estate sale or flea market, and haggling with CL and eBay sellers to be like haggling with people face to face, etc, i.e., a virtual version of a garage sale, and we do get finds from CL, eBay and other on-line marketplaces (such as etsy) reported here, txlonghorn. It's probably indicative of my personal inclination (not my position as host) that I was not more explicit about including them in the "Big Tent" definition in my intro. Sorry about that.

BTW, the finds don't need to be "great." I hope I didn't put too much emphasis on that in my attempts to have fun with some prizes this year. In the past, each host has rightfully felt the need to mention that from time to time as the year wears on, especially when guys get sheepish about posting what they think is too little or too insignificant compared to a run of fantastic hauls. It's not about one-upping each other (although that kind of friendly dueling can be fun, too!) You will see the best collectors here post some paltry finds, too, trust me. Or nothing at all! I am a very selective picker, as proud (hopefully not excessively) of one measly drive-pin punch if it's something I need for a collection as I am of a complete socket set I am luck enough to run into - but I don't mind getting completely skunked sometimes. If you don't get skunked, you're not looking hard or often enough, in my opinion! :) EDIT: Or you have no restraint filter.

Yep. Read ALL of that when Lugz started this thread. Still says nothing regarding CL or online sales. But now he's clarified it for me. And I guess picking is picking regardless of where/how it happens. Good luck this upcoming weekend.

I'm not daring enough to "dive", but I did pull something interesting from the top of a full dumpster a couple years ago.

A metal serving cart, similar to this but with wire grid shelves instead of wicker baskets:
attachment.php

(wine not included ;) )

The previous owner must've thrown it away because the bolts holding it together had loosened up to the point where it was unusably wobbly, and they didn't have a hex bit/key to be able to tighten them. Well, I did. :D

I used it to gain a second tier of storage where I had some stuff just on the floor before. And I recently figured out, while trying to do something with my growing assortment of hammers (mostly from Sears), that the wire grid is a good size to stick hammers through.

I just added them, Mike. Thanks for the prod. Definitely needed to be cleared up!

Lugz,
That wasn't intended to be a prod. I was fine. Just wanted to understand. I know it's somewhat rare for people to actually read the rules no matter what it applies to. It's even rarer for people to follow them. Thanks for hosting it! I'm enjoying seeing what folks are finding. Makes me a bit envious the people that live where so often old high quality tools are available at flea markets and garage sales.

ALL: yep PICKING IS PICKING and i'm not sure if getting tools given to you by relatives or friends was on the list, but I bet that would count too.

speaking of DUMPSTER DIVING if you need a few pieces of carpet for something even as a cheap liner for a tool box the carpet store's installers usually put their new scraps in the dumpster daily. JUST BEE CAREFUL cause some of the bigger dumpsters are not easy to get back out of if almost empty. :D

Here's my finds from the flea market Sunday.
Picked up a 4.5" Metabo grinder for $40, it has a diamond metal cut wheel on it. A pair of Diamond brand tin snips, these outdo anything newer that's I've used. And a Utica adjustable wrench.

Lets also remember that not everyone lives where "Garage Sales" are convenient or regular. In my area I see a lot of those, Estate Sales, local auctions (online and live) and CL but, I'm always envious of the guys that have regular flea markets in their local area. I'd have to drive long distance to get to a large flea market where I could find a quantity of tool sellers.
Some folks are very rural some live in big cities. It's all different across the country but the shared experiences are what make this thread fun to read. I would not want to read only those finds restricted to actual Garage Sales. I want to learn about everyones adventures in picking and finding used treasure and look forward to this thread each day.

"Can that pellet gun be repaired easily? Pretty cool find"

I replaced the lead seal on a Benjamin air rifle not too long ago, and while doable (and done) it was a bit of a pain. Works great now!

I took it apart to see what was wrong with it. It has a leather cup seal that is 7/16" I can't find a replacement, Coleman lantern ones are too big, but I did find a tutorial on YouTube on how to make one. I'll put it on my shelf of things I think I might actually get around to fixing someday.

I'm ready for garage sale season. Usually don't see any around here until at least April, except maybe an indoor estate sale here or there.
