And right now some guy is posting on a hunting and fishing site about how he had his stuff sitting waiting to load up the truck for a fishing trip and some a-hole ran off with it!:lol_hitti

Ha, I was thinking the same thing when I saw that picture.

Not a garage sale find but a curb find. I was on my way out early this morn and this was on the curb for tomorrows garbage a few blocks from my house. I Also got 5 nice tackle boxes. There are a few good reels and the others are junk, The lanterns made me slow down real fast.

Wow! Looks like the ex or future ex getting rid of stuff he left behind. Probably intending/hoping to get later. Not gonna happen now!

I don't post much but I had to post this one. I went into a pawn shop and found a stubby ratchet in the junk bucket. It had a thin rubber covering on the handle. I went up to pay for it and the guy who knows me said how much do you want to pay for it. I said today is my birthday, and it is, he said take it and happy birthday. I said thanks and went on my way. When I got home I took the rubber coating on the handle off and it said Snap-On! Happy Birthday to me!!

The average for 2017's thread was about 18 posts per day, so this one is definitely moving faster so far.

Hope you do, Drives! And I wouldn't worry about it being a good deal or not. I, for one, am not primarily motivated by price, and neither is my interest in what others are finding.

Classic Garage Sale Thread type story, j. Thanks for sharing. And happy belated birthday!

That's a first! All the other GS threads are open! :see:
I'm glad I wasn't the only one with a :wtf: moment! I think that was more ominous than NUTTSGT intended it to be! :)

Not sure of the protocol, what is the thread for craigslist finds? Not ones you post because you want to alert others to what you saw, didn't buy, but are posting in the possibility that some other local GJ'er may want it? The thread for CL items you bought-is it just included here?

So, is "garage sale" strictly that, found at a yard sale/garage sale, or does it include the sub-categories of craigslist, estate sales, "going out of business" sales, something you bought from an acquaintance, from a pawn shop, etc?

I found a few things recently, I'm going to only claim under this thread the tools on the radial arm saw, though I found both thru CL or at a Habitat for Humanity.

Take a look at the pic. I bought the 12" Craftsman split-phase radial arm saw between Christmas and before New Year's, off CL. The tools on the saw I bought today from Habitat for Humanity here in south Florida. It includes:

Craftsman split-blade screw-holding slot-head screwdriver
Ideal USA wire-cutter & stripper 10/12/14 ga.
file card for cleaning files, flat
file card for cleaning files, circular
Wiss metal shears, straight blades, small frame
ball pein hammer, 1" hole, due soon for a handle
Armstrong speed handle 3/8" sq drive

The radial arm saw (RAS) is a Craftsman 12" split-phase motor, it runs fine, I had a wood table for it from another RAS I got the rebate for, from Emerson Electric, last year, I just junked it out today for what remained and got ~$6 for the aluminum, lunch money.

So the RAS I'll refer to as my "Janus" saw, remember your Bullfinch's Mythology from high school, the god who is two-faced, as he looks back to the past, and also ahead to the future. The RAS was a very late 2017 purchase, but the tools on it are definitely a 2018 purchase. It was $60 for everything (RAS & tools), if I include the scrap aluminum 'sale.' I've owned several RAS's over the years, I bought my first new one, 39 years-ago. I sold a 10" Craftsman last year, it ran fine, and was about a 1969 manufacture, steel construction, not aluminum.

If you bought something off CL or similar, it is okay to post here. If you are wanting to alert someone as to a good CL deal, there is another thread aptly titled, Found a deal on craigslist? - List Here!...

I currently have a 60's vintage 10" Craftsman RAS, I really like it. Once I get my garage cleaned up I need to replace the table on it.

Started out I found one 10" (I think early 70's) at a garage sale for like $15 I think, it was on its own stand. The motor was going out and wasn't the best shape. I found the nicer older one just the saw for $50 with some spare blades. So I sent in the first ones motor and got $100 for it, used the feet assembly for the second one, and actually ended up selling the first one's arm/table assembly on CL for like $20. So I came out all right on that deal.

I was at an estate sale once, saw a motor & arm assembly (don't know where table was) for $5... Looked like the guy was using it to cut brick with, I dunno... It was in a greenhouse and when I picked it up water came out of the motor assembly. I sent it in and got $100 for that one too... :) Hehe...

Thanks for the reply about 'where' and 'when' of posting.

I keep an eye out for the RAS's to turn-in, but haven't found any cheap-enough to make it worthwhile, other than one I rebated. I think there's a limit of six/year, but you could have any member of your household 'send it in' for a rebate, unless it's 'six per year, per household.'

Rare would be a huge understatement!
Agreed. But I don't have a Lock-and-Key-on-a-Hermetically-Sealed-Compartment-with-an-Armed-Guard-RARE prize category! EDIT: I think it's safe to say Tin's WF-6 has the early lead for the 'ALWAYS BE YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ****' sticker in the Rarest Find category and will be hard to beat. This category race is already fun, it's early, and I have faith in challengers!

Craftsman =V= 12 pt swivel sockets. Looks like the 1/2" socket may have been used once. The rest are new.

One of? Hard to find? That is thee unicorniest of the unicorns, in my experience!. Where's my little green book? Going in under the RARE category! :)

Out of complete ignorance I ask are all Plomb WF pieces hard to come by or just this and a few other pieces?

Well, my first Early Bird Flea Market day of the year - and probably the entire weekend, was knocked out of commission by the snow bomb cyclone and the deep freeze that is following it. I suspect most of our right coasters are in the same state of annoyance. Our left coasters, Gulf coasters, and heartlanders will have the carry the load!

Great find! Interesting that only the 1/2" seems to have been used. I dig through a lot of sockets in pawn shops and of all the swivel sockets I find the 1/2" is the most used. Most of them are well used.

LUG: while you might not be going anywhere today here's a thread i started a year or so ago for members to post up ideas on how they GET ORGANIZED that might give you a few ideas. here's the link:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335623

ALL: maybe the hardest part about bulk buying good deals is they clutter up a bench (maybe 10 benches in my case) for too long cause some of us just don't spiff them up and put them away the next day or sooner like some are able to do.

that said i'm building a few new storage spaces for those long items and if any of you get a chance to buy UNISTRUT CHEAP buy it and i'm sure you'll find a use for it. I'm currently building a hanging storage out of close to free nuts and bolts and unistrut and more importantly I haven't been to the HARDWARE STORE YET TO BUY ANYTHING.

GET ORGANIZED so those cool finds can be found later or when you need them is the key cause nobody likes buying something that they already own one or several of that they can't find.

cheers

I'm not sure if we will be rained out or not here. The weather guessers can't seem to guess right two days in a row! Supposed to rain all day today, but its barely sprinkled so far, and tomorrow the sun is supposed to shine, but the NOAA Sat maps don't look like it to me.. Big front coming in...

Usually there is a HS Flea fist sat of the month, but they always seem to skip January, and if its a 3 day weekend I don't blame them much, but this year its the 6th day of the year so.. maybe... (assuming no rain)

My first stop of 2018 yielded a few goodies. P&C sockets and combo wrench, barcalo pliers and dbe, Blackhawk combo, Penens doe, and a cool pair of Honda pliers with WKI stamped on the handles. Never seen that before.

I'm going to resell these punches and chisels. Should I remove the PlastiDip? It adds character but... these are in such good condition (rare for punches and chisels) ... it might be better to strip the dip.

More.

Misc. ignition wrenches - Plomb, Vulcan and P&C. Proto Pro long handle 5450, Proto snap ring pliers, Wright socket rail and a Proto driver with an old (pre-pebble) handle. And the Proto LA socket again.

Another shot of the VARIAC. Needs a new power switch, but that is no big deal.
VARIAC was marked at $15 and the guy (who had very little idea what he was doing) looked in my bag and said "how about $35 for everything?" Sold! The whole thing was a madhouse, stuff everywhere, about a hundred Coleman type lanterns and stoves (way overpriced), out buildings with broken or missing floors, a ton of old lawn tractors, cheap drill presses.

It was heaven. I would be going back tomorrow and Sunday, but it was an hour and a half either way and I got a ton of stuff to do this weekend.

I went to an auction yesterday and picked up the OTC pulley puller, OTC bearing splitter, and Armstrong 3-jaw puller for $35. Most everything else was selling for 75% of retail or more, but you know what they say about a fool and his money.ec6e20644b68dacabdbe1780fc10a60d.jpg
