Yes. Flashlights (incl US Steel and Caterpillar), a green Simonsen tackle box with a lighter green plastic handle, a bunch of =CRAFTSMAN= chisels with the handles dipped in yellow plastidip, C-clamps, putty knives, and a Klein hawksbill knife with a composite handle. One group photos and several close-ups.

Are you on your computer or phone? Maybe we can "de-bug" this.

EDIT: Too weird. I see what you're seeing (big grey minus signs and grayscale checkerboard field) when you quoted him in your post. But I see his photos in his post. That tells me there is something incompatible between your system and his and mine. But that's not usually the case between you and me, so WTF, O?

Outlaw,

Can you see them if I quote him?

What: Four auction lots. About 30 pieces in total.

How much: $15.50

Why: They were undervalued and I cannot resist vintage tool bargains

Where: On-line auction

Partial List: Klein Tools Hawkbill knife, Craftsman chisel and punches, 3 cool flashlights, Simonsen tackle box, etc.

I'm going to resell these punches and chisels. Should I remove the PlastiDip? It adds character but... these are in such good condition (rare for punches and chisels) ... it might be better to strip the dip.

Nope.

I'm on a PC, NOT a phone.

The "Quote" was not a Quote, but a screen shot of what I see.

Others should weigh in, but I suspect its something to do with how his google host is setup... (I'm even on Chrome...)

EDIT: I just tried on FF same result...

All I get is the minus signs, on a computer which is already logged into my Google account. I do not have the "Google+" social network junk activated on my Google account; perhaps the problem is he uploaded his pics through that.

Bryan, you might want to either use the attachment feature here on Garagejournal, or else find a different place to use as an external image host.

Is anyone else using Microsoft Edge? That's what I am using. Maybe that's the difference.

EDIT: Yup. That's it. I just logged in using Google Chrome and I could NOT see his pics. When I logged off and logged back in with Microsoft Edge, I see them. Edge must have something more compatible with whatever he's using to post.

I (and many others) never use MS browsers (unless forced to at the MS web sites..), and use FF, Chrome, (both more secure/safer) maybe safari, and other non MS browsers...

I also was logged into google, but not any social stuff.

ALL: i saw Bryan's $15 small tool pics earlier today when he first posted them and can't say i've ever seen Craftsman chisels with yellow plastic or rubber on the handles like he had. that said I don't see any pictures or minus signs with his written post now. I've been using Google Chrome for maybe year now to browse with and one GJ.

adding to the mystery.

Bryan: can you post up your pictures again cause i thought those should keep their yellow handles cause somewhat rare (I think).

thanks

Oh, his was the yellow-handle chisel photos! I DID see those when they were first posted, they only broke later! Nothing changed on my end. I'm guessing he mistakenly changed a privacy setting at his image host after he first posted them.

I think he thinks the yellow was added by the previous owner, not the manufacturer. I'd say leave it on anyway and just try to clean it up if possible.

I'm not arguing browser pros and cons, Outlaw, just trying to figure out why I can see his photos, while others can't.

I can't see Bryan's photos either even when someone re-posts them via quote function. I'm using my older MacBook on Safari and have not changed it lately. It's something with the picture formatting I would guess.

Thanks for trying to help us resolve the issue with Bryan's participation, Hexen and rmalkow. Beemer could see them at 11PM EST with Google Chrome, so I don't know about the settings change theory. While I would like to do everything I can as host to make sure everyone can participate successfully, this one is beyond my help. I guess the most we can do is guinea pig Bryan's attempts with different systems/settings etc. Bryan - there is a "Test" section on the site. Scroll all the way down on the main forum page and you'll see it. Might be best to experiment there, let us know when you post pics there, and guys can scroll down and see if it's working.

I think you far exceeded the host's "responsibilities" here Lugz.

Bryan, the best way to avoid pic viewing issues is to host them here on GJ; Can't recall anyone having view issues that way:

Start from the "Go Advanced" posting menus, or the "Post Reply" button near the bottom of any page, (Or hit the "paperclip" button to get to the upload popup); and at step 5 copy it into the URL field after hitting the "postcard" button: (Step 4/5 is optional, you will still have thumbnails)

Just noticed now some of you are having problems.:headscrat
I had problems yesterday when trying to embed my photos. I use chrome and google photos. It seems only when I archived a google photo could I then use the copy image address and see them embedded when I previewed my post. All other attempts would leave a gray box or would embed just a link.

Once I saw them embeded in my post preview, I posted the thread and I have not to this very moment made any changes to privacy settings.

Bryan: one thing i can say since i did see the pictures on Google's chrome when you first posted them is that the yellow handles look original and i'm not sure i've seen them on a V craftsman punches before. maybe not super rare or valuable and just uncommon, but i'd probably clean them up and keep them on and see how they look and work before grinding them off.

LUG: yep add troubleshooting to your duties, but some things just can't be fixed so thanks for trying.

Outlaw: i know you like the bigger pictures that come up with your method, but i like just clicking on the paperclip and downloading thumbnails sort of like an email and i'm sure happy i stopped using F'bucket photo hosting before i joined here that used to work great. i might have to try your method one day, but until then i'm an old dog and new tricks are tough to learn. BTW i also have liked the way you take pictures on that graph sheet or whatever it is so keep up the great work!!

ALL: have a great weekend everybody!!

I used to do it this way but unless I'm missing something, I need to download a google photo which already has a URL, then upload it to GJ to get a GJ URL. To me this is double work.

Bryan,
Not true. The process that Outlaw shows works great and eliminates any need for third party hosting services. you simply upload pics direct from your computer hard drive. I've used this exclusively for years. It you only want to show thumbnails in a post rather than full size photos to save space you simply replace steps 4 and 5 with the paperclip option in the header menu of your post. This gives you easy multiple ways to display images.

Or just hit the [Close this window] button at the bottom after Step 3, then hit [Submit reply].

Outlaw, Bob,

I don't want to get too far flung on this subject, but I am curious about one thing. Why does GJ limit personal photo albums to 1,000 photos when the method Outlaw outlines above is unlimited? Both options are attaching photos directly from a computer to the site. The only difference is the photos attached to albums are organized by user. The others aren't, but they're still using capacity. So why limit the albums? I have my photos in albums, and when I hit my limit, I'll just use the other way. But the albums are very handy.

Picked up this cool little Drillgine yesterday. Doesn't run but it's in excellent condition. Will bring it to work along with my Husqvarna 2100CD as display pieces. Price was FREE!

LUG & ALL: I've always used the paperclip method of downloading pictures and as i was helping other members try to salvage their F'Bucket issues a few members thought that my 1.3 GIGS (yep i've posted quite a few pictures) on GJ were excessive. i told the mods and owner to delete them if they thought they were eating up too much memory cause most of my pictures are to help members solve a problem or identify something, but i probably have a few personal ones. anyway with TERA BYTES fairly inexpensive the owners of GJ said they were in the process to add more memory so this F'Bucket issue doesn't happen again as some members still use them and other members ran to other free services that might do the same.

i know IMGUR has issues with GJ cause of the classifieds (for what reason I'm not sure) so their pics don't always show up.

anyway i like Outlaw's and others bigger pictures i guess using that method he posts, but if you click on any of my thumbnail pics 2 clicks and they are full screen on your laptop or computer or phone.

some of the members have actually rescued their Photobucket pictures without paying the $399 per year ransom so i'll help anybody that might want to spend a little time fixing their threads and pictures saved if they PM me or there is a thread in Free Parking that might have some information if they aren't B'thching still.

hope this helps somebody!!

ALL: hope you all figure out this picture thing cause i for one enjoy the stories, but the pictures are always a nice addition.

Lugz, I don't know the reasoning, but I would suspect it's to keep people from using GJ as an unlimited photo hosting service for their personal photos.

The in-thread photos are about GJ context, so harder to use for personal hosting...

That process photo I posted was uploaded once, and all the other times I and others have used it are links to the original photo. It may be the most re-posted photo on GJ at this point, leaving avatars out... :dunno:

Usually it's easier to just use GJ attachments anyway, but FYI I recently found out that the trick to getting imgur to work here is to simply delete the "s" in the "https" image links that you get from imgur. So next time you see a classifieds thread with that problem, pass this tip along to them. :)

Today was a ok day, I got a unidentified set of Fleet tools, a 1/2" Craftsman hex key, a Milton tire gauge and inflator chuck, a single wright socket, a magnetic pickup tool, a silicon carbide sharpening stone, and a small Rubbermaid Action Packer tote for $9. 7dd7910cb121439148878cfed0156bd6.jpgf1a6061893ffcff41877f1065e006980.jpg

OK back on track for the thread:

Bobcat - Nice find! Is if broken beyond repair or just the usual two stroke sitting around issues?

I hit up 2 Estate sales and one I may have been the first to peruse the limited tool selection. certainly it did not look picked over! I soon had a double handful and the lady in the garage gave me a SS tray to temporally hold things. I got concerned about prices when she mentioned the hand saws were $20! (and nothing special at all about ANY of them...)

I started going inside the house and she made me leave the tray until I came back, assuring me no one would touch them. Inside I found NOTHING, so came back out and asked how much? I know some of you were probably thinking I'd have to fight somebody off that was trying to cherry pick my stuff, but all was well. Sometimes you have to trust people!

She hemmed and hawed a few seconds and said $30, I said I was thinking $20, and she said fine., so clearly not locked in.

Not Bad! the Sundance patch an Bell were from Estate sale No. two, and she gave them to me with a happy new year's! (I'm a regular and she's always good to me...) Everything else was ES No. 1.

The water pump pliers and two punches are all P&C, one piece of a GAM nesting driver set (enough singles and eventually I may get another full set...), A tiny driver, a Stanley (red) and a flat sided no-name, the ratcheting driver needs oil... Which I also bought; a two oz military can from Standard oil of New Jersey, and its full! Only a few drops gone, if that!

The Bal Peen is a Kaydox? (never heard of them) about 5 oz. Stanley Punch, The pipe tobacco tin has small Tile pieces the ladies will use, I wanted the tin... Adjustable 2" Clamp (my seventh that size and brand), the reamer is Craftsman of the Long C era/geometric font, but no underline.

Disston 8' mini tape, Brass "Safety pin" the 4" adjustable is Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co. - I think it's 1946-1958. (Horseshoe logo, and reinforcing ring ?), adn the little 6" hack saw Frame. No name but I like the compact size. I'l need to sort out some blades, but this will go into my Road box...

The hatchet? You thought I would never get there, didn't you? It's a Bridgeport, and being a "newer" rubber handle I almost left it! I did pick it up and turned it over and saw Bridgeport... and the BSA Logo! :rocker: Its not the best Boy Scout hatchet, but it IS a BSA branded hatchet! :bounce:

All in all, a good day!
