OT, but Cool Cat 3Bay,

My mom has had three Siamese through the years that looked exactly like that one. First one lived 14 years, second about 17 years and the last about 18 or 19 years. All told about 50 continuous years of Siamese. We have 3 of essentially the same photo's of my mom with each of the cats and I tell her look mom your the only one getting older since each of the cats look exactly the same. She gives me the evil eye when I say that  She would still have one if she could have gotten an adult this time rather than dealing with a kitten.

Do tell...
When you're using Google Books to search for digitized historical documents (books, journals, magazines, etc) and you find one that is locked, showing you a Snippets View only, with snippets that contain your search terms, you can request the Google Books team unlock the book, by following these steps...

(1) Copy the URL of the book from your browser. You will need to paste it later.

(2) Underneath the snippet(s), click on the Where is the rest of this book? link.

(2) That will take you to a How to Use Google Books page. Scroll down to the Fix Common Problems section. Click on the You can't see the full book link.

(3) That will expand into a list of bullets. Click on the last part of the bullet that reads, “If you think the book is available in the public domain in your country, ask us to review it.

(4) That will open a Your Google Books Inquiry page with a form on it. Fill out the form. First name, email address, URL of the book, and page number or range (of the snippets your search terms are showing up in…). For the ‘Categorize your issue’ options section, you can check the I’d like to see the entire book, and I believe the book is in the public domain or Other.

I have better results with Other and filling in the How can we help you? line with something like “I’d like to see page 89, 219 and 320.”

More times than not, even when I request certain pages, I get the whole book. Note that I get plenty of rejections, too, though. It's hit and miss.

In a week or so, sometimes several weeks, you'll get a very formal email making you feel like an important researcher informing you if it has been unlocked or not. If so, they will provide a link to the unlocked book in the body of the email.

This weekends haul.. Both run a 3/8 drill bit straight as an arrow and quiet. The ORBIT is heavier than I expected and will be staying with me after I tear it down and clean it up. While picking up the smaller one, I found the little 40 lb Fisher anvil on their bench and took it home for $25. All said I spent less than $200 for everything.

I have the Orbit OR-1458. Looks the same. Was part of a used tool sale when General Dynamics closed down operations in San Diego in the late 90s.

"LandofRath," I have an interesting factoid, you may be aware of this, but if you aren't, it's immediate street cred! Your Comstar wheels, have a distinctive structural feature: the rivets that hold the sections to the rim are titanium! Yes, #22 on the Periodic Table of the Elements, that light, strong metal which is
They command respect.

Is this true of all Comstar wheels? If so, the '77-'78 Comstars I scavenged off Honda 750's add immeasurable class to the garden trailer I built around them!

Since it's 12 minutes after midnight, that is officially my first good belly laugh of the day!

By the way, the pin holding my left thumb together also apparently deserves way more respect than I give it. :)

Ha, nice. Thanks, 14-19, is that what we have to look forward to? Great :lol_hitti
My father had a part Siamese that lived to 19.

This here is one of two that belong to my gf, I’m not sure the ages exactly. They are very trying, definitely a breed all their own, and I like cats.

Had a bunch of “normal” house cats, the current two are sisters in NY still going strong at over 15 yrs old. We took them in as babies abandoned in a shed. Loveable house cats but they’ve wanted nothing to do with each other for years.

The two Siamese are males, not actual brothers, different ages, but cuddle together and clean each other ALL THE TIME. :dunno:

Sorry guys. Carry on!

hi all, yesterday afternoon an ad came up on craigs list that looked interesting, poster stated he was selling all of his tools and moving to florida. he listed a bunch of different brand tools, weed whackers, blowers and chainsaw's (didn't mention brands) in the ad. gave him a call and asked about the yard stuff, not what i was looking for. ask if he had any old tool box's, he said "i have several and they're full of tools", asked if he was available? he said all day. jumped in the car, i was about 10mins. away. the tool boxes were plastic carry boxes with alot of stuff i didn't need. he let me sort through the boxes and take what i wanted, while i was going through things he asked if i had any interest in a vise? he had 3, i took the big rusty 1. there was probably more but this is what i came away with. not pictured, power trim edger runs good. 50 for the edger 20 for the tools.

20 bucks! You ****!!!

My wife and I decided to brave the rain and go to an estate sale this morning in Greenbrae, CA about 30 minutes away from home. I left some tools behind due the rather high first day prices but still came home with some interesting finds. The chisel and punch sets are Blue Point from around 1950. The next picture is Snap-on and Blue Point. The 3/8" sockets are Sparta. The next is P&C. The last two pictures are of a refrigeration ratchet that bears a strong resemblance to my Walden pictured alongside.

Hit an estate sale today in Denver. Day 1 is always over-priced but I picked up a few things. As usual if you see something you need/want let me know.

A lonely Indestro box and a Westerns socket case (never heard of Westerns).

You know, there really should be a law against this kind of stuff, I mean, selling his stuff BEFORE he moves to Florida. There supposed to move down, then sell it off after they figuire out there's no room in the garageless house/condo.

No wonder there's none of those CM spinners down here.

Responded to a local CL ad last night about a box of tools which had a 7-pc Klein nut driver set in it. The guy was asking $50 or best reasonable offer. I asked him if he'd take $20 just for the nut driver set. Getting close to midnight and I was about ready to get off the PC and head to bed but I see I have new email. It's the guy asking if I would give him $35 for all of it as he'd really like to get rid of everything. Apparently, a previous housemate, who didn't leave on good terms, left it there and he wants it gone. I told him I was too sleepy but I'd think about it and let him know in the morning. After getting up and around I look at the pics of the stuff and I don't know what pretty much anything is beyond a file set, the nut driver set and an Allen Tools 1/4" spinner. I let him know that I had no use for the other tools at all and that I'm not trying to insult him but if he'll take $30 I'll buy them all. I'm just hoping I can get $10 for rest of the **** and only have to pay $20 for a 7-pc set of Klein nut drivers still in the plastic. He agrees, we set time and place for this evening. Later I recognize a little tiny part of what appears to be a plastic milk crate in his ad pics so I send another email asking if he will throw the milk crate in as well and he says sure. Great! I love milk crates! We meet. Everything is there. Turns out he's a fellow woodworker so we chat a bit exchange information so I can point him in the direction of some lumber (walnut, cherry & white oak) and are on our separate way. Turns out that milk crate is a double-sized crate. Jackpot! Everything is really dusty & dirty on the outside but most of the other stuff doesn't look like it's ever been used. It includes:

Mayhew Tools Hollow Punch Set, Ritchie 6-pc Swaging set w/ bar, Time Mark Corp 108A PH Rotation Detector, Williams Palmster, Ritchie Yellow Jacket Hose Maintenance kit, Husky pipe wrench, Lawson pipe cutter and a Lawson 12-pc assorted file kit, in addition to the milk crate the nut driver set and the Allen Tools 1/4" spinner. I gotta see if this stuff is worth anything. Pics follow...

Edit: Whoa! Looks like these are not **** after all. The Mayhew Tools hollow punch set is for making gaskets apparently. New it looks like they sell for over $150. I could possibly seeing that being useful when you need it. The Time Mark PH Rotation dectector sells new for over $100. No idea what it's for and can't see myself keeping it. Ritchie 6-pc swaging set w/ bar looks like a flaring kit for cooper tube. Definitely nicer than what I've got. New it looks to sell for $65ish. Seems like I might get that nut driver set free when all is said and done. Not bad.

Mike

You done good dude.
The time mark is a 3ph rotation check device. If It's for sale, you can sell it here. Handy if you have direct drive that won't allow equipment to be uncoupled from motor.
Nice score.

You know, there really should be a law against this kind of stuff, I mean, selling his stuff BEFORE he moves to Florida. There supposed to move down, then sell it off after they figuire out there's no room in the garageless house/condo.

No wonder there's none of those CM spinners down here.

cb, that's funny. if what he told me is true, i feel bad for him he has a lot of work ahead of him, just relocating to the opposite corner of the country is a feat in itself. as far as those spinners go, they're not that common up here either.

So just how much room does a spinner take in a suitcase?

Dang, how are you guys finding all this in mid week, mid winter is beyond me... I usually do pretty well during the winter doldrums, but this whole past year has been abnormally slow for me. :dunno: I usually spend 2-4 X more on tools than "other" and last year it was nearly 2X the other way... Overall spend rate is way down also...less than 1/2...

Well done guys!

I hear ya, Outlaw.
Last year at this time I saw more listings and had better luck during blizzards than I've had for the last 3 months. There just hasn't been anything out there listed lately.

Yep, more or less dead around Boston. I've even been eyeballing sales and Craigslist ads 45 minutes away. I'm not that desperate....yet.

Figuires, storage unit buyer guy has sales about every 6 weeks and usally has something worth grabbing, fair prices too, like the 3 SO rats for $25 I bought a while back. Having a bigger sale today and I'm on the way to the east coast for buesneiss, and no listed sales:sad:.

Oh well, I'll go sweep up tomorrow on this one and a couple second day estate sales. But those are like showing up to the party at the cheerleaders house after the football team just left.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Man, I'm losing it. Came to do a quick post on my latest buy and just BS instead.
Got these two on a local online auction. A 4" 5162 CM and a No. 26 Prentiss swivel jaw.

The CM is in pretty good shape, sorry for the night time photos.

The Prentiss has a broken jaw and seems pretty loose on the nut, havnt had time to properly play with yet. I don't think I'll get hurt, paid a whopping $3 for it.

From a quick search, I think it was used by wood workers in the day.

Talking with the guy that runs the auction house, said they came from a antique store that closed in town, so that just reminds me to stop in these stores more often.

I'm with you guys. I've always said I do better in the winter. Only the serious tools guys come out in this weather, so you don't have to wade through the china, clothes, bric-a-brac, LPs, etc vendors. I've had a thread running on another WWII tools only board called "Frozen Flea Market Finds" for five years and this is the first year I have not posted ANYTHING in it yet.

I'm heading out for my early bird now. If I don't come back with something today, I may not come back at all! :)

Outlaw: thank you very much for the very detailed instruction on how to light my Coleman lantern. i found my can of oil and if I get some time i'll maybe give it a try, but i'm in full on ORGANIZING MODE at the moment except for making time to go get materials for my garage that strangely leads to a PICKING TRIP.

CB: your Craftsman vise made by Rock Island vise company is maybe one of my favorite vises. keep your eyes open for the 150 pound 6 inch wide jaw one oh and lift with your legs.

the Prentiss #26 "Coachmaker" vise is a good find, but the dynamic jaw and end of slide is pretty beat. I could still function as a working vise if you needed it to, but you should be able to save a lot of the parts in case you find another one with a good dynamic jaw cause those are not a common vise. not really a woodworker's vise or a steel working vise like is has been used for by many old guys in the past and i'm guessing yours left the factory in the 1920's.

LUG: don't be so hard on yourself and maybe some of the tool guys in your area are waiting for you to set up a booth cause you've bought all the old tools. good luck
