My "skunked" story. About a month ago I went to an estate sale run by a couple of attorneys for the estate. And I bought a few things. One thing I really wanted though was a Kennedy rolling chest. However it was priced out of my range, so I made an offer. They turned it down and I asked them to call me before it went to auction if it didn't sell before.

They didn't. And I missed the auction where it sold for $90 including all the tools.
Talk about pissed. I would have been at the auction but I had to visit a neighbor in hospital. [emoji83][emoji83][emoji24]

Sounds like someone got a great bargain, sorry it wasn't you but hopefully the buyer appreciates it. What were they asking originally and what did you offer?

You have potentially a very rare piece there Levaughn. that is the console mounted tach used on late 60's GS 400 models. Check some buick blog sites and GS owners sites. It could be worth a lot more than you paid.

For $5 I'm gonna say YOU **** for that purchase.

Boofer, those Saltus wrenches are hard to come by, especially in a set. Been looking for a bit, and seems like everything is either Asian, or hundreds for SO around here.

You could sell the cast iron legs for more than what you paid for the whole shabang. Slap a 3 inch thick live edge slab of oak on top and it's worth a couple of grand at least.

Just saw VERY similar legs in the '54 catalog, designed for a 12" lathe. Just missing the hold-down for the bottom bench. Look at pg 26.

So, went back out today, going to an "estate sale" really just a garage sale, but looked like some interesting things in the pics:

Disston saw, Jackson & Co. backsaw (both etched, the backsaw real old with split nuts) Starrett pin vise and a coulple vintage bicycle break levers. $25
Then on my way to a barn sale, saw the sign for another estate sale. I had seen it online, but it didn't look good. But since I was passing... Found this in the garage, half price day so why not:


After sorting through it, I found Snap-on feeler gauge, Blue Point dbe, MAC saltus and woodie, Proto, Craftsman and SK Wayne sockets, a Bonney swivel, P&C chisle and a bunch of Japanese stuff. Not too bad for $7.

Then went on out to the barn sale, finding this:

Small clampn vise, Greenlee gouge that is rusty but still in the plastic coating, two Starrett sheet metal gauges, a Vintage Hoppe bottle, solder and a Craftsman monkey wrench. $4.
On the way home, I was passing by a junk shop which always looked interesting so I stopped. Found these:

Knipex flush cutters and a P&C 1/2 box. $6.
Then went for Chinese buffet.

St. Patty's will be remembered in my household as "Snap-on Ratcheting Screwdriver Day" lol

- Snap-on SSDMR4BANV ratcheting screwdriver, 75th anniversary edition in original box. Looks unused. Not marked with a date code on the bling-bling gold plated shank, but I assume 1995.

Green handle very appropriate to the holiday!

- Snap-on SSDMR24 ratcheting screwdriver in red, 24" shank. I didn't even know this existed until today. Dated 1994, shows some use but in very good shape, lettering not worn off. I couldn't find this on their website, guessing it is discontinued.

And the icing on the cake, a Proto Los Angeles no. 4763 extension, 1/4 drive, 14" long. I've needed a long 1/4 extension for a while, so this is a welcome addition.

I won't reveal what these set me back because of the ensuing lynch mob that would form.

However, in the spirit of teasing, I paid less for all 3 items than a plain Jane Snap-on SSDMR4B black hard handle ratcheting screwdriver costs new ($67.95 on the website).

The only downside, each driver only came with 1 bit. The green one has a correct looking Philips #1 ACR, and the "long donger" came with an unmarked non-ACR Philips #2.

d42jeep, you had a Plomb-tastic couple of sales! Those pebbles sure look good Have you already cleaned them up, or were they in such good condition to start with? Pleased to also see all those Plomb screwdrivers.

I've had a couple of weeks which were slow for tools, and spent a big part of Saturdays and Sundays doing "other" stuff, so haven't hit the flea. Weather is improving, so I'm kinda getting the heebie jeebies. Maybe in a couple days I can post pics of some of the jun, er, good stuff I've hauled home.

Outlaw, a piece of that good stuff includes a hand-scribed BSR #8 Dutch oven; think it's c. 1930s, and in surprisingly good shape. It'll probably make some sweet rolls one day this week when it's cold and wet.

Picked up these Craftsman tools as $10 worth of a trade with my axe and hatchet guy last Sunday. The leather handle hammer is cool, appears older and no part number. Manufacturer code is "M" which I have heard is Vaughn.

This is from a week ago Friday.
Pic 1: First sale, lots of cool stuff but not much for me. Only thing I got was this Craftsman C3 19.2 combo set, the tools were practically unused. I am keeping the reciprocating saw, I swapped the circular saw for my identical but used a lot more one and am selling the light to my buddy. $30

Pic 2 and 3: Second sale I missed out on a loaded Craftsman roller cabinet. Picked up this hospital side table with drawer which has become my new side table for my couch to hold my remote and beer LOL. The General Electric shoe buffer went to a buddy who used to work for GE. I didn't really need another Coleman lantern but for $3 couldn't pass it up, 1962 date code. The white tub in picture 3 yielded up the Proto 1/4" ratchet, Craftsman extension, JB Weld, Lubriplate and other odds and ends. With the two oil tins it added up to $28 total.

Yeah, I've seen a few here and there at the flea, but never a set. The original pouch was the icing on the cake.

I drove my oldest back to school down by the Cape, and spied a moving sale on the way back. It was the second day, not much left. I found the following for two bucks:

Bag 'o 9V battery clips
Corbin mini padlock, with two keys
Diamond 6" adjustable



Indestro Forged Select Steel DBE (because I leave no DBE behind)

I saw the bag of 9V clips out of the corner of my eye and it instantly brought back memories of buying those at Radio Shack many years ago! Then I saw the Radio Shack price tag on it!!! Ah, good times.

Slow Weekend; NOTHING worth getting in a vehicle yesterday, and even with the sun coming out, only two worth trying today.

First one was a bust. "Tools" meant a small trashy carry box, with bits and pieces of rusty Asian made ****. There were more car part bits than tools... But such a deal! only $2! I left it.


Second was a later opening estate sale dregs sale (I missed it earlier? )

That was better. Light on tools but I got some. only spent $15 for a paper box (10 ream size) overflowing. A mixed bagg of stuff. She didn't even "inventory" it, just asked if $15 was OK and I said yes.


Bulk of the tools:

Drives, both Nut and screw, An old Hex drive universal, (no brand) couple of old brass sprayers, Paint can openers (I'm going to hang these wherever we keep cans that open like paint cans, I'm tired of looking for the damn things), Supplies like Brass Brads, Plumbers tape, anti corrosion spray for batteries, an lead counter weight from something.

The Prince Albert can I used to gather things in after emptying it, and cherry picking, but its also cool... Excedrin tins, (these are handy for small parts and the like, or for refilling and keeping handy...) Brass parts, a brush holder, and a glass door knob passage lock (has a privacy lock)

Glass Beads for SWMBO, She loved the blue necklace, laughed at the earrings, and the black beads are "leaking" so need fixed, or become supplies. Small box of wood matches.

4 books full of 45's - Mostly from the 50's, brass Xmas candle cupholder, a paint mixer.

Tool "bag" for a bucket.

Duster brush and a Mini Deep Fat Fryer. I would kind of like this size for cooking, but the base is busted a bit. so I'll patch that find a cord and use if for "hot-tanking" small parts.

brass Candle stick with three candles. SWMBO liked then holder, hated the candles...

And the last tool: PowrKraft hand drill in a blow mold box. pretty early design for a Blow mold box! ALL Aluminum!

Too bad my PowrKraft trading buddy isn't around.. Have to Email him and see if he's interested still...

Guy said to make him an offer and he said yes before I even got the word "twe" out of my mouth. Probably could have given him less but oh well.

The guy said it was from a car I think it is from a motorcycle. It's plastic. Any ideas?

As mentioned a couple pages ago, I've had a relatively dry spell lately "in the wild." Here are pics of the few things I've picked up:
- 1948 Blackhawk 3/4" socket




- Plvmb pebble 1150 (1 x 1-1/16") and a 1985 Snap-On SFS221 3/8dr. 11/16" deep socket (all from local pawn shops; the Plvmb and SO socket came from the same place).

- Fafnir rule and Blackhawk tappet wrench. Anybody have any idea what those U-shaped parts would fit over, on the rule? One is fixed and the other slides.




Then this weekend arrived. Friday was an estate sale which was basically a bust, other than a modern Craftsman long flat tip screwdriver (not pictured). I saw a moving sale as I was doing an errand, so stopped and found a 1930s Dutch oven, made by Birmingham Stove and Range Co, with hand-scribed mold numbers. After a little cleaning, it's ready to cook with (no pics, since not a garage item). Then today, I hit the flea and found a number of items:
- Stevens-Walden 1/4" dr. socket (partial) set (for my WW2 mechanic toolkit)
- Kearny & Foot three-square 8" file (for my WW2 mechanic toolkit)
- Kearny & Foot half-round 6" file (for my WW2 mechanic toolkit)
- Simonds Red Tail points file, which will go in the Stevens kit
- 1939 Blue Point XD-1214 (or -1241?) 3/8 x 7/16" LDBE

Well, Fafnir makes roller bearings, So I'd guess its to measure against the balls on a roller bearing. However I don't know why that would matter as the inner and outer race Diameter is what really matters...

Maybe for measuring spacing on an in line bearing raii of some sort?
