Interesting. Almost like a cabinet (or electrician's) screwdriver, with no flare at the tip so it can fit into recesses. But a short shank. And not a very substantial ferrule. I am guessing jeweler's.

Just sayin'.

I only wish you had remembered it from your haul a few days earlier, so you could save yourself some postage.

The metal shank is 1-7/8”. 5-1/2” overall.

May have gotten pushed up into the cavity in the handle an 1/8", but all these FSN tools had spec tolerances, too. That's a match for the manual excerpt, no doubt.

I found this little air compressor on Dayton's Craigslist for $19.00.

The regulator with the gauges was broken off. I have frankensteined ( sp ) it with what I have on hand.

Tomorrow I'll go to Graingers and get a pop off valve and plumb it in with a gauge that shows tank pressure. Runs great !

Drove an hour for some tires on Craigslist...not as represented.
So I went and spent $140 on this Huot stack
pics are from ad. No keys, but the drawers work good as do the wheels.
There is even decent felt in the drawers.

Yeah, gonna be first one to say it...YOU ****. I'm sure a lot of people here would do some pretty despicable things to get that box at that price. Kinda surprised it's not blue but, I like it! Probably just like most people don't know you can get Kennedy's in red.

I might affix it to my gooseneck as an extra layer under the tonneau and keep a bit less tools in my cab., I was sort of looking for one with the drop face like that.

The lid/s on the lower pull out of the middle slot, one folds up and the other down. Judging by the paint they weren't closed much if ever.

I always liked the Huot metal drawer drill indexes that were at the machine shops I worked at, and was surprised to discover here they made boxes as well! I'd love to get my hands on some of the indexes as well as a box in the future.

Nice grab, Slew. I picked up a very similar but older Huot top box last year. When I can get to my garage - we got 10 inches of snow last night! - I'll snap some photos.

I found a half a key in the bottom of the box!








It wasn't cocaine or weed, but I think it is enough a least to get the right blank, and felt like a good fit at least on the lower box. I loathe digging broken keys out of locks, so I think I'll just wait till I have a fresh blank or 3 to work with. Slides have a 1971 pat date. My box looks just like the ones in the 1971 catalog on their website...and the '81 and '85 catalogs too. The shiny stickers may indicate a newer box, but it's hard to tell.

Here is the Huot top box I found last year. Same design, but a little taller, with different drawer configurations, and the Huot symbol embossed on the drop-down lid.

My wife and I hit two estate sales today. The prices were a little high but we found some interesting tools. The first sale was in American Canyon, close to Napa. The first picture is of all the tools, the second is the first Berylco wrench I've found. The next shots are Barcalo, Thorsen and P&C with Bonney. The sockets are D-I and a 1919-1921 Blackhawk. Second sale to follow.

Nice haul for two sales! I found a Thorsen II 1/4 set brand new with the plastic on it about a year ago! Those old Blackhawks are awesome to find! Im always happy whenI find some!

Off for the week and been watching for sales. Only one today. Went and hit this guys sale, he was barely putting stuff out. dug around and found a toolbox that had some older sockets wrenches and such in it. Talking to the guy while looking, he's moving and wants it all to go away cheap. I asked price for the whole toolbox, he says $5. most are junk sockets in there. I saw there was an Indestro 1/2 ratchet and thought it was worth that alone. Deal. got it home and started sorting stuff out, He was right there were an entires set of ALL TRADE Taiwan sockets in that box. but, there were also, Old snap-On, Old Blackhawk, P&C, Set of 1/2 WARDS, 1/4 Wizard ratchet, Fleet sockets, Williams, S-K, Proto Los Angeles, Walden, Indestro, KAL, Thorsen and some others. also some wrenches.. Select steel, Craftsman, Thorsen, P&C, and a few extensions....Craftsman, Mac, Husky. Not a bad little haul for a Thursday. three or four good-looking Estate sales tomorrow! hope to bring home some good stuff!

Not entirely tool related but garage sale related...I stopped by a sale on the way to work and passed on an old safe for $50. The lady said it was given to her and was an old maritime (or "steamboat") safe, and that she thinks they have the combination. It was a bit rough...anybody have any ideas on this?

Since its already open, you don't need the combination.
For $50, go back and grab it and take it straight to a locksmith that can reset the tumblers to a new combination.

Most safes that size don't sell for less than $250 up here. Regardless of condition.
(although, I did get lucky and found one at a sale for $65 because no one wanted to move it)

EDIT : On closer inspection, it looks like the door comes off. Just lift while moving the door back and forth and it should lift off of the hinge pins. That way you only need to bring the door to the locksmith.

Hit up a sale this morning that was listed on CL as having "many hand tools." For some reason I had a bad feeling but I hit it up anyways. I am new to Estate/Garage Sales. Absolute garbage and definitely not "many." There was a handful of chinese pliers and two Craftsman Robo Grips. He had a wooden crate with about 15-20 old combo wrenches that were rusted to death but said Mack on them. I figured I'd ask and he said $50 bux. I usually don't react to peoples prices because hey it's their right to ask what they want but I actually laughed. I said no thank you and he said $30. I just walked away. Then I found a USA made Vise Grip which I grabbed for $2. Disappointing but I guess thats the risk taken.

There's something amiss, RagTop. The Q.D. line was 1/2-inch drive. I can't see the full model number but if that 7/16" socket is D14 it's 1/2-inch drive 12-point. If it's O14, it's 1/2-inch drive 4-point. 14 would be 1/2-inch drive 6-point. Same for the one with the 5/8" service opening. D20, O20, or 20. All 1/2-inch drive. As far as I know, Blackhawk did not make 5/8-inch drive tools.

Frank. I think those three bent wires are for an old single burner (usually alcohol) stove. Brass pot as the base, a burner and those wires as pot supports.

Hit one estate sale this morning not too far from home that looked promising. Picked up this crown badged CM box with most of a 1/2" drive =v= socket set. No ratchet. Got the oiler and the nested screwdriver (?, can't read the maker on it yet) for free. In the toolbox there's a whetstone, couple of files, a chisel & punch with FM stamped on them and a lightweight thin pair of like channel lock pliers by Indestro. Sockets from 1-1/8" to 1/2", missing 5/8 & 9/16. All for $12.

The paint job has GOT to go though. What is going to be the best way to get rid of the paint without damaging the crown badge?

$15 Dazor lamp. The articulation on it is outstanding. Can hardly wait to use it but I'll have to rewire the power cord as it was sliced by someone.

Tools were $1 each. The CMAN 5/8 - 3/4 DBE is the shortest one I've ever seen.
