Some eclectic finds from yesterday, gents! Let's see what today brings.
I've had that exact same model MD for the house over the past 25+ years and never a problem with it. Their website has everything you need to hook it up.
I saw that sale listed and dismissed it. Nice find on the vacuum canister, that will make a great addition to the new garage.
Thanks! I think I'll buy 30 ft of wired hose for it and be able to switch it on-off from the working end, as needed.

You made out pretty darn good for $15!

For the fourth Weekend in a row, rain and cold weather here.. in Texas.. in April... its supposed to be 100 degrees by now... I hit a few estate sales. there was only one with any tools to speak of. The guy was standing in the middle of his little shop, writing down everything you bought and asking you how much you'll give for it. Every other thing you pick up, he was keeping... no pricing what so ever. Ended up with a hand full of small B&C asrt clamps, a couple of hammers, pair of Vise-Grips, Dremel set with flex shaft, Florida Pneumatics DA sander, Devilbiss Nailer. All for $15. not too bad, hopefully, the flea market will be open tomorrow!

You nailed it! Persons Majestic bicycle siren. They were out of Worcester Mass. I looked it up this AM and they are actually still in business, but apparently don't sell these any more. There is a knurled nut on the other side that rides the tire sidewall similar to the old bike generators.

Several YouTube's demoing it. Probably annoying as hell to the neighbors when used back in the day, which was apparently 50's and 60's. This would probably be a great addition to a vintage bike of a beach cruiser!

OK, found this post.
I am not as big as you guys, but will add some interesting things from 2018 which I got.

My major masterload of free stuff included:
1. SNAP on 3/4 box from 1940s
2. Remline box
3. RADNOR box
4. ZOTOS ULTRABOND plastic box
5. Waterloo carpenters box
6. small no-name rusty box with 72 lathe tools, 3 tool holders and minor staff for lathe
7. 2vintage COES wrenches
8. WESTCOTT and ROBINSON curved wrenches
9. Billings and SPENCER and JC SPEIRS wrenches
10. HARGRAVE 44 cincinnati OH C-clamp + KOREA C-clamp
11. around 80-90 screwdrivers (I kept some - vintage, some Stanleys and put rest on CL)
12. Pliers - 10 Named one include Samson, Indestro, Boney, Craftsman, NEW YORK TOY, etc.
13. Bernard tools pictured below
14. Blue Bird battery pliers
15 Box of hammers - 22 (still need to clean, the only one I cleaned was Champion DeArment)
16 Axes - 3
17. Simonsen Chicago old tool box
18. Ammo box (full of old tiles)
19. Tons of hardward
20. Drill bits
21. 4 Vintage craftsman punches + some unnamed
21. several broken axes and hammers which were recycled
22. Socket box, unnamed, needs to be sanded on one side
23. Corsair ratcheting screwdriver
24 5 small wrenches (Snap On, Williams, Thorsen (2), Fleet) ex. SO is 11/32 - 3/8
25. 13 small wrenches and adjustable wrench for small sizes comparable to above
26 UNITED STATES ENVELOPE CO vintage scissors
27. 2 large wooden saws, 2 metal ones
28. Tons of random staff I am too lazy to go and count...
29. There was an old self-made wooden box
30. Extra tool tray from the toolbox that did not fit and was very moldy (had to through away after nobody took it and bunch of tiles from above, left in front of the house for free and offered to neighbors, but no luck...)

And now the price: FREE! (the tools belonged to a gentleman who is 92 years old. The son hated to see the tools thrown away. I sent him some pictures of restored tools (you can see them on my small thread minor restoration of old rusty tools and he wrote me that it brought a lot of good memories to him as he recognized some tools after the cleaning and minor restoration). I offered to restore some tools and bring them back for him and his father as a memory pieces, but he still keeps declining).
This gentleman says that there are more tools (probably planes, vises and possibly something else) somewhere on his property and in the future if they are not complete loss he will contact me as it makes him happy that his fathers collections is being restored and used.

Sorry, I do not have pictures of everything. The day after I brought all this staff and left it in the corridor, I got a very strong hint from me beloved wife to remove them ASAP...

Edit: just realized I made a mistake here: the Shaler was not from free set: I bought it for 1$ from a yard sale (did not exactly know what it was, but vilcanizer sign gave it away..._)

A little more.

All my staff except for Shaler came rusty, stuck and some to the point of no names.

I went back today for the 50% off from Friday's sale. Picked up the remaining machinist box,the Kennedy sold yesterday. One drawer was lined with newsprint ,The Detroit News Oct.10,1917. Label inside the bottom drawer says Kwality Kases ,which has a ad in Popular Mechanics May 1916 ,right here in dear old Detroit:rocker:

The brace is in great shape, found a 12" combo blade from Brown & Sharpe, some NOS Craftsman Crowntop "Hollow set screw key assortment" in plastic,5 Craftsman combo wrenches,Craftsman coping saw, drivers by Vaco,Craftsman,Powr-Kraft and Xcelite.Plus pin vise, punches, countersink,India stones, tap handle and more was left in one drawer of the box.
The brace is worn in one spot where I can barely read The NATIONAL ACME CO.,Google says they were out of Cleveland,OH.

Shelbylex, you **** for that great opportunity to save a tool collection from the dump. I'm glad the guy's son was moved enough to respond to you. Good luck with finding a home for all of those tools!

I was in line for the Kennedy this morning..someone bought it right before closing on Saturday for his box at work. I said something like I hope the guys not going to take off the name plate and the guy said, no the guy was gaga over the name plate just like I was, so that's cool. I apparently was off my game because I would have bought that wooden box from under you if I could go back in time.....didnt like how some of the drawers would open and close but I'd put up with it for over 100 years of stories looking over my tools. Ive been beating myself up for not grabbing that hand drill for 3 bucks...great scores!

Saw a plexiglass front panel for a Pepsi machine on the way into the Flea Market this morning. We did our normal tour of the FM and stopped by on the way out. He dropped his price to $15.00 (from $18.00) without prompting. SOLD!

Below is the pic my wife sent to the kid's.

My plan is to make a lighted frame for it and find the wallspace it needs. I might cut it down to be centered around the logo and require less wall space.

Cheers

Jim

Well, I went to my first auction in decades, and I'd class this one as my first, "pro" auction, complete with "buyers premium" (as in lets **** the buyers for even more...)

Ah well, just make sure you figure thst into what you bid...

What got me there was the description, and the pic of 7 vises, all looking pretty good!

So I get there get signed in and get my number, and a box to go "picking" with. (Not sure other auctions do this, but you basically go do some picking of the "smalls" make up a box (or more than one), and then you get to bid for it. You may get out bid.

So I do that but only made one box and made sure it was somewhat random, but things I wanted. I figure there is less likelihood of someone bidding more than I would for my random selections.

There is a catch though, Someone can ask for something to be picked out and auctioned separably IF they make an offer that gets the auctioneers attention.

So the auction starts on time. I spent the first third just watching and learning, as they were selling stuff I wasn't that interested in, or was WAY over priced for what they got. Very few "deals"

We move into the "shop" area, and more stuff I wasn't bidding on; I thought I might if the Anvils didn't get into stupid money... a pretty nice portable forge came up and went for stupid $$... I was not getting good vibes for when the vices finally came up. a Baldor 3/4 HP buffer on a Baldor stand came up and I let that go as well as it was near into stupid $$

The anvils went for breathtaking sums! Stunningly the smaller one went for as much or more as the one 2X its size! (A Vulcan).

A lot more stuff I wasn't bidding on... FINALLY they went for the vises, (had to practically beg then to do them). First up was a 5" Wilton bullet without a base. otherwise in GREAT condition (all the vises were in great condition, however there were not 7 but only 4. (Someone cherry picking? :dunno: )

I won the Wilton with my last bid and then would have let it go.. :rocker: NOT stupid $$ but I can make its cost and then some back...

Next was a 4-1/2" Rock Island Pattern Makers vise and I bid and bid as with the Wilton and got it for less than the Wilton! and AGAIN, at my limit!

Third up was Prentess fixed base, swivel jaw (missing the pin) and I again won at my limit!

the forth was a Columbian and I let that one go went at a good price for the buyer!

We broke for both lunch (Millers Hotdogs, provided), and the garage area, where I bid and won a couple of things, and last was the picked boxes - Mine had a small Fairmont body hammer with a long pick and someone got that pulled for a $10 initial bid. I was irked, but let it go. I DID get my box without too much trouble or cost.

So here is what all I got:

A Black and Decker Router on a stand setup for carving from a master on that top rectangular section. Presumable letters? :dunno:

attachment.php

An Eagle Rag bucket, been wanting one of these for years.

attachment.php

and with it (package deal) a military water jug. looks like hell, there are leaves composting inside, but My first pass at cleaning it up looks like its recoverable.

attachment.php

And my box absent the Fairmont body hammer - the auctioneer commented "this guy is a good picker!"

in the back a Berkroy Shear. looked this one up: straight cutting or if you can another accessory, that clamps on the metal and lets it turn, a circle shear. (I can easily make that accessory); an international Harvester 1-5/15 wrench, A stainless Steel spigot, adn an Adz in rally nice shape!

attachment.php

A Fire extinguisher that used bromochloromethane (Halon replaced it), and should clean out for other re-use.

attachment.php

And a K-D supply tank. based on its having a way to be pressurized, (and having a pressure relief valve) I'm assuming its for bleeding brakes, (too small a reservoir for hydraulics)

Nice haul Outlaw. I have never heard of an auction quite like that. There was one time when a guy asked to separate an item from a box and the auctioneer agreed. That burned me up because all the boxes had been going dirt cheap and I was waiting on that one box, until he pulled out the best thing!

Nice grab, Jim. I wonder if there's something funny you could do with it for outdoor parties in your back yard. Like build a simple frame behind it, so it stands up and looks like a machine, but people would reach through the slot to grab sodas sitting in an ice bucket! Or is that just my twisted sense of humor? :)

...and a Cornwell creeper.
Nice find! I'm going to comment further on the creeper thread.

Outlaw: Strangest auction format I ever heard of.

What is that chuck like thing in the lower right of the pic used for? I saw one at an estate sale recently but wasn't sure what it was for.
It's a tap wrench. Though I have seen one described as a hand chuck by a lady at one sale. The opening is square to take the head of the tap but it does tighten up like a chuck, so maybe she is sort of correct. LOL.

Woo hoo! Welcome to the club!

EDIT: If you intend to build your 6-pc DOE wrench set with Bonney 585- series, an outstanding choice (with the model number forged on the shank derived from the 1938 US Army QMC drawing number for DOE engineers wrenches!), I have some extras. But be forewarned that completing it with a 585-4 (3/8 x 7/16) will be very difficult. I have never seen one in the wild, and I have only seen one photograph. In fact, for the longest time we didn't even know what the model number was. My calculation was one digit off! See my old Wanted to Know thread on the subject, including photos of my 5-pc "585" set with a 1723 placeholder, linked here.

Nicely done, Matt.

Nothing in range for me today. Instead, I got around to scrapping the Craftsman radial arm saw I got last month. I dropped the motor and rail off at FedEx today and should get the recall check in another month.

For anyone wondering on timelines for the Craftsman RAS recall, I just received the check in the mail today, so about six weeks.
