I went to one estate sale today. The prices were high, but I found a couple deals.
attachment.php

I was just looking at the current version of that little tool set in Sears last week! At least some of them are still US-made (both of the ones in stock at my store said they were US-made 'with some global materials', but some reviewers on sears.com have reported Chinese-made versions), but no longer come in the pouch, and I decided I didn't like the feel of the mechanisms on the screw-holding tools when I tried one, so I put it back. Hopefully the older version functions better. :)

PS: Looks like you got a bonus 6th tool thrown in there, a magnetic grabber thing from another source.

Two Streamlights, one 2AA the other rechargeable, both work fine. The Ryobi battery turned out to be worthless but the charger works.... who does this? Mitutoyo 0-1" Micrometer with Ratcheting Dial. And my new garage security camera... needs a 5v power cord but she told me before buying.

018 (Large).jpg

016 (Large).jpg

Second sale netted more Craftsman ,metric and SAE along with Petersen/American Tools 6 piece vise grip set,1 pair was China junk but the others look quite good.I'm thinking it was 3 sizes curved,long-nose to make up the set.I will look through my boxes here and at home and see if I can fill the pockets correctly.

Jake, if you can, count the coils, measure the average diameter, divide by 2 for R, and estimate! (3.14 X R X R) X estimated number of coils.

2 x 3.14 x radius = circumference
if radius is 3"
2 x 3.14 x 3 = circumference
6.18 x 3 = 18.84"

OR

3.14 x diameter = circumference
if dia is 6"
3.14 x 6 = 18.84"

Weather kind of sucked here today, went to 1 sale about 10 min. away. Get there, all household ****. Ask the woman" I thought your ad said tools?" She tells me she didn't say tools and points to a sign. I say, no, the CL ad. She turns to some guy "Did you put tools in the CL ad?" "No I didn't." Me "If it didn't say tools in the ad, I wouldn't be here."
A-hole.

This thread inspired me to check out my local flea market for tools. This was my first attempt.IMG_1125.jpg$12 total.

Klein Tools lineman’s with crimping. Like new, some minor surface rust. The vendor originally wanted $15 for just the pliers.
IMG_1128.jpgIMG_1132.jpg
Older USA made Companion tack puller I believe. Companion was a Sears brand from what I’ve read.
IMG_1131.jpg
This one I have no idea. It has Taiwan stamped on it. It seemed useful to me, at the very least it will open a beer three different ways haha.[emoji481] I’m open to any advice you guys may have on what tools to look for. Are there any names or models that should be an automatic buy if they are a steal. I saw a Fuller screwdriver and I know that is a decent brand but I passed it up because I just wasn’t sure. It was only $.50.

I would have been mad too. That’s like when they say TOOLS! and you show up to find out they should pay you to dispose of the junk for them. This did work out one time for me though. I bought a guys flooded tool collection for like $5 and I mean really bad condition but I spied a 1/2” US made craftsman ratchet in the junk. The rust wasn’t to bad but the internals were seized so I just asked sears for the replacement drop in kit. Made my money back in one item.

I haven't seen one quite like that yet, but I have acquired several weird multi-hole wrenches over the last few months which are intended for opening/closing oxy-acetylene gas cylinders. Could be another design of those.

Then there’s the other side of that coin, the rare sale that didn’t advertise tools and has tons of tools or useful garage stuff. I found a early 70’s Delco dealership cabinet in a high end sub division garage sale for 25.00. You never know where you will find something.

I don't know, I think the other side would be if they put in the ad that they didn't have any tools, when they actually did. I have no problem with omissions, it's the out and out lies that bother me.

Gerber multi tool with some surface rust, New Britain 3/4 combo wrench, Craftsman rethreading die set and a roofing hammer for $4.50. Craftsman miter box for $2. Never used Black and Decker 20 volt combo drill and sander from work for $50. And a whole tub of misc hardware, wrenches, bits, wood rulers and tape measures for $6.IMG_20180512_165445.jpegIMG_20180512_171059_369.jpgIMG_20180512_171059_366.jpgIMG_20180512_165246.jpegIMG_20180512_171059_376.jpg20180512_165050.jpgIMG_20180512_171059_364.jpgIMG_20180512_171059_367.jpeg

So it most likely came with a tool? Similar to the wrenches that come with grinders and sanders? I work with a lot of smaller all thread and nuts like 10/32 or something similar so I’m hoping this will fit into my daily use. I can keep it close by and I won’t have to worry when it gets lost.

Cool.

I found a slightly rusted 0-1" Starret Micrometer for $1 at sale. Cleaned it up a bit, drowned it in oil.

TCG, Nice box! what brand? I think I have one or two of the cam lock ratcheting wrenches.

TM you did well! I like the Indestro box! and what is the make of the grey clamp on vise?

You need to point out that red Bell systems box to Jeff Moss!

Did I every say that I love pawn shops? I should say chain pawn shops who have no idea what they have. I was off on Wednesday and was lucky enough to find these.

SnapON LSF720B 1/2 in a 3/8 body
John Deere 3/8 Bonney made ratchet
Craftsman 5mm driver
SK 90376 Spark plug pliers

The only guy on the counter is the guy who deals with the musical instraments (this shops main thing). He asks if its USA made stuff. I say yes it is. Hesays"How about 3 dollars"...that one put a nice smile on my face

Next might not really belong in this thread but it was from a pawn shop . 150$ out the door. Its a Winchester Model 12 from the 50s. 3" Heavy duck gun with upgraded wood and factory Winchester pad. I'm hoping to strip the wood and refinish it. I've had alot of Modle 12s but this is my first Heavy Duck

That is a BIG YOU **** on the duck gun. I have been wanting one of those for quite a while. If you get tired of it just let me know. Just don't sand the wood. Use stripper and 000 steel wool.

Ran across one of these today. I haven’t researched yet,
The CAM-LOC design was patented by Alfred Kavalar in 1951 and licensed by many mfgrs, including Snap-on, Bonney, and T.K. Fisher (which is what you have). The earliest T.K. Fisher wrenches are marked like that, with the full name, and St. Claire Shores. The latter marked T.K.F. Detroit.

TM you did well! You need to point out that red Bell systems box to Jeff Moss!
And post it - and your other Bell System kits - on the Bell System thread. :)

Tin - I meant to ask you what make is the 1/4 driver in your first picture a few post back? Nice hauls btw.

We had a discussion about that little spinner. It’s a Craftsman made by New Britain.
