Picked up some decent stuff this weekend.

A pair of CH 1/2" drive air impacts for $10 each (gave the other to my brother)
A pair of 1/4" Wright breaker bars for $1 each
Mirror on a stick for $1
Atlantic 10 foot tape for $1
Hat, patches, Monster stickers $5/all. Those Monster stickers are good for 10hp each. Where else am I going to get that kind of HP for the money?
Vintage Grain Belt beer stocking hat (not pictured) - $5
A big pile of vintage Arctic Cat gear (not pictured) - $5 (had to buy it to get the pictured stuff)

Estate sale today with a tonne (long tonne, because it was a LOT) of Craftsman. Turns out he had a fair amount of Snap-on too. Got there later than I wanted and got #22. Luckily they let in the first 25. Spoke with one of the workers ahead of time and asked her if the tools were still in all the toolbox drawers. She told me no, they had moved them all to a shed out back. Everyone else headed to the two garages and I went right over the shed!

Nice. I need to find one of those sales around here!

Spent the afternoon, and part of the evening, playing phone tag with a CL seller.
The guy had three 7' aluminum/plywood scaffold platforms for sale for $50ea.

The first time we spoke he told me that he was holding them for a guy who offered an extra $25 if he would hold them until Sunday. He wanted to honor the agreement, but would sell them if I was willing to match the other guy's price. (sniff, sniff, does this milk smell ok for you ?)

I told him I'd rather he honor the agreement he made, but if the buyer flakes out on him, give me a call back on Sunday.

Two hours later, more phone tag.
When we hook up, he tells me that he finally got in touch with the other buyer and the guy already bought the platforms he needed earlier in the week. (He was just going to let the seller hang)

After getting his address, I told him that for the original asking price I could be there in 20min. 30min later, I was driving home with 3 more scaffold platforms in my truck to add to my scaffold collection.

Two are in great shape, still with decals on. The third has more use on it and some concrete splatter.

Now I have one less excuse for not replacing the picture window on the second floor. :(
I'm sure I can think of a new one.

No pictures, it's dark, and the platforms aren't that interesting.

Great haul, Bill! Nice grouping of unusual size sockets. The Barcalo adjustable is another cool find. A small one of that design was recently found in a wartime photo of a camera repair kit. Barcalo was making those for quite a while.
The attached image is an article from 1921 and the next one is from the 1941 price sheet. The last shot is the wartime shot showing the Barcalo adjustable.

Oh yeah! :pimpflash

I must've missed that. Thanks for pointing that out, Don. I've got an 8" teardrop somewhere around here and I remember all the skeptical hairy art deco eyeballs I got when I posted it on the G.

Small haul today....

This is my third Handy Andy toy toolbox, all different designs. I'm saving them up for when I have grandkids. Going to have fun filling them up with tiny tools. Ignition wrenches, 2 oz ball-peins, jeweler's pliers. I even have a few tiny adjustables.

The 12" adjustable is a J.P. Danielson VANADIUM with a November 1941 date code.

The DOE wrenches are all off shore (getting my purchases in before the imminent tariff/trade war). Another Snail Brand for my Snail Brand collection and a partial set of unbranded MADE IN WEST GERMANY, because never leaving a partial set of anything behind is one of my unwritten rules.

I never, almost, make it to a garage sale type of thing but this "estate sale" was right around the corner and I go right by every morning to walk my dogs at the river. Picked up a Dayton 1/3 hp grinder on a home made stand and a Reed 1c vice. I just bought a new Yost 855 D2, now I've got to figure out which one to keep.

I guess I left myself open for that. I barely made it from the barn to my truck with the vise. I'm getting old.

Might it be possible to make heavy vises easier to carry by sliding the movable jaw all the way out of the base? Two 'trips' with roughly half the weight seems like it would be much more manageable, I just don't know how much of a hassle it is to separate the pieces like that.

You and me both, brokeboater. I have a split-based operation going (garage - temp storage, de-rusting, etc; basement - repair, oiling, cataloging, research, communications), I've been doing some major sorting and re-organizing, and I just moved a few vises to the basement. I'm like, 'Hand truck? Nah, I got this.' The Wilton Bullet was heavy but well-balanced. The Rock Island Bulldog 524 was heavy but well-balanced. The Ridge 43 CPN gave me fits! There is literally no good way to carry that vise in two hands without it wanting to flip or twist out of your hands.

Funny username, btw. It can be taken two ways. You're broke (as in, barely making ends meet and no disposable income), because you own a boat! :) Or, your boat is broken (as in, not afloat or barely afloat and it always needs more work), because that's what owning boats does to you! Either way is just about right in my experience!

Haven't been to a sale in a looooong time. Slow day at work and I saw there was an estate sale around the corner. Headed straight for the garage. I think I did pretty well for $20. Most all the loose wrenches and sockets are plomb or snapon.

Haha. Love it. I am so ready.

I was mistaken on the Skil-Craft Handy Andy Tool Sets. I have two, two different styles. The third box I was thinking of is a Boy Scouts Handicraft tool box. I keep all my tinier than 723 wrenches in that. I really should put them in something else and work on preserving the labels. That might be worth some bucks some day.

Merc, I just got the user manual and such for the atlas. I have the same, branded Craftsman Commercial, that I am in the midst of tearing down. Can scan and email any pages you need.

We found three estate sales today but should have passed on the first one since all I found was some automotive light bulbs and a mini Alemite grease gun. Total investment $2.00. The next sale was in a mobile home park and had quite a few old tools. The last one was a regular professional estate sale company known to be expensive but today wasn’t too bad. The first three pictures are the goods from each sale in order. The fourth picture is everything. The fifth and sixth are Thorsen and Proto. The last is another really early 10” Ridgid with a 1 on the jaw and no patent number.

It seems to be needle nose days out here, But here is what I picked up at an Estate yesterday:
20180531_205249.jpg
Some Proto pliers of the thin nosed variety and ignition, a few needle noses, a Hazet driver and a cool wood punch holder, which now has my nail sets in it.
Today I hit a couple ES spending a couple bucks here and there, but the second stop was the best. It is a company that seems to leave everything sterile before the sale (I think they clean all the nooks and cranies, tossing a lot of interesting stuff along the way) but it was on my way to the post office, so what the hay. Not much of interest, but I spotted a little plasic tackle box that seemed to have some good stuff for $9
20180601_115724.jpg
Good descision, as I found Proto, Plomb pebble, Starret, Lufkin, Vlechek, Craftsman Vanadium and other treasures.
The other stops yielded the following:

I picked this item 20 years back and wonder if my fellow pickers here might have some info about it.

Am i correct assuming its a table base? When this was new maybe over 100 years ago was it used inside or outside? Does anyone here know about this piece other than what i indicate? Its 29" tall, 26" tip of foot to other tip. The o.d. at the top is 6". It had 1/2" fine thread fittings with the tall head h-d bolts holding the feet on. It weighs well over 100 lbs. I've had this 20 years holding a gazing ball on the patio. Thanks 4 any help.

Hex & All: luckily i haven't found a vise too heavy for me to buy and carry away in one piece yet, but some day I hope to. that said you can unscrew almost any of the old vises all the way out to carry them in two pieces. BEE CAREFUL not to let the dynamic jaw drop out on your toe or ground and for some of them it's a bit difficult to screw them back together especially the bigger ones the i sometimes do on their sides if I took one apart to clean it.

a tip for the bigger Wiltons I found is to take the 3 screws off the retainer (horseshoe shaped piece) and unscrew the screw out and then pull out the dynamic so you'll have 3 pieces which works especially well when putting the big ones back together in the reverse order.

BB: nice find on the Reed 1c and it's on my list of ones to find as a keeper.

Good to know. I've seen your heavy lifting in the fitness thread, not surprised you haven't found a vise too heavy yet. ;)

Got both sets in an online auction for $26. The red case is Bonney B-shield 3/8" drive set. The SK set needs no introduction. Also got a Waterloo Industries JL-600 tool chest packed full of tools for $51. Would have paid that just for box

That is quite a pedestal! It’s the right height for a table. The style of it is interesting - that bold, clean cylindar flairing out looks timelessly industrial; the two collars intentionally demarcate its proportions; but then those small, fussy, neoclassical feet! Since they bolt on, it could be there were alternate optional patterns. My guess is nineteen-teens, but it’s ecclectic enough that it could be a decade or two later. Maybe a municipal- or amusement-park furnishing? Train station, bank lobby, zoo?
Here’s a somewhat similar base:

Man, you guys are doing well this past week or so! Lots of great scores and saves! I may be back into "Slow" mode. Last W/E was pretty good; today I have one stop beyond a HS Flea... I did pick up a couple of vises last night off of CL. (Pics later)

WG - What is the height of that stand? Leaving the feet out of the equation, I'd say tool stand, possibly for a vise. The feet don't scream work shop at all...

If for a table it would need an adapter plate, and a table top. Maybe 2 more inches or so? :dunno: So most tables are 30" high, or 36 for counter height. Bars are higher I believe so depending on height a bar stool table would be higher. (Never measured a bar's height...)

Very cool base for something for sure!

In my working life I was a boat broker. When I retired much earlier than expected I became a broke boater. I never in the world thought I'd be this broke at this age and I've never been happier.

I'd have assumed it was both. Never seen a boat in use that wasn't "broke" (They always need something), or a boater that wasn't griping about needing more $$ for something... I've had quite a few boats, and I always get rid of them... The only one I have now is an inflatable. I haven't even put it in the water... I keep hankering for a canoe. Not sure why... :dunno:

Neighbor down the street went to this sale where a lady was moving out of state and just wanting to get rid of a bunch of stuff. He pulls up in front of my house with the bed of his truck piled with stuff, and a little 8' trailer in tow.. lol.

He found me an old HF 90A flux wire welder and mask, I don't think he even paid $20 for it. It's a little beat up and needs the power cord & ground clamp replaced, but it works!

The guy somehow managed to shove a 10lb spool of lincoln brand flux wire in there instead of the normal 2lb... :wtf:

And also got a bucket about 1/3 full of .223 :)

Lots of drill bits today got sets A-Z, #1-#60, and 1/16-1/2 by 1/64, a nice 6" Brown and Sharpe 6" dial caliper, Peterson 9ln vice grips, and a a Proto 204 side cutter all for $100. The drill indexes were each $20 almost all the drills are USA made HSS drill bits did I pay an ok price?
