What do you guys make of this one?

Arrow No. 2 chuck handle. Very small opening, yet too big for those tiny drill bits in the case.

I'm Pretty sure that holds bits of some sort. I've seen kits with little awls, screw starters, smaller drive bits, etc. that handle seems a cut above the average handle for sure.

It might not be for bits, but handling wire, files, the end of a rod you are working on, etc. The bigger one in my link (Randomly picked off google) opens to 11/64, or 0.172"

Yesterday I was driving past the Restore, so I stopped and found this pair of Barcalo pliers for $0.25. They look a little odd, but there is a pair just like this on Alloy Artifacts.

Thanks Prov! It turns out a have a Bonney with the same Model number, so I think that confirms Bonney made.

The Versatool ratcheting mechanism always benefits from a good oiling. (I use MMM)
Same for Yankee drivers. I havr yet to see one not "com alive" after oiling...

Modest haul at the Early Bird this morning...

The cot has me a little stumped. Everything about it (the leg brackets, the corner brackets, the canvas, the hems, and the straps) say WWII, but the buckle on the straps is stamped "PAT. JAN 6, 09". I have three of these and I have never seen that before. Could be it was leftover from WWI/Interwar years when the cot was built.

The rocker ratchet is a Hinsdale H-1.

The bike wrench is a Wakefield No. 8 (1900).

Second Kraeuter "S" wrench I've found in the span of two weeks.

[edit]The pickerupper (smallest I've ever seen/have) is a Bonney. [/edit]

And the BSA book is a 1943 copyright edition, with the Normal Rockwell cover, and honorary officers listed as some guys named Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover.

Very cool finds Lugz! Love the BSA book!

I agree, 1909. not every company would stop stamping patent info simply because the patent had expired. Some may have viewed it as bragging rights. But it could also have been that many more were made than could be used.

Thanks, Outlaw. Ironically, it was not found in the same lot as the cot, although many of these cots and other WWII Army equipment (including Signal Corps signal flag kits!) ended up going from surplus to Boy Scouts lockers.

I'm not a superstitious person, but it's weird how that happens from time to time. Just happened to me, too, with the Kraeuter "S" wrench. The Realist in me pooh-poohs the voodoo logic in these grand koinkydinks, but the Open Mind wonders...

Not directly g-sale maybe, but my friend got these in a lot with a couple tools we needed for his ride, then gave them to me after I finished an engine swap for him.

Hazet, Stahlwille, bmw amd more.
no brand on this one, the number 3092 came up for a cylinder sleeve puller, but I have my doubts?? the thumbscrew opens enough to grip it on to something.

attachment.php

All these are unidentified, some at least partly homebuilt.
The long black one is a BMW tool marked 3085.
I think the bent bar is diy for vw 8v and diesel valve spring depressor.
The spanner with 1/2" drive is a Walter 3115, I'm thinking strut or axle bearing tool, but for what?

attachment.php

These I know what they are, and some are good finds.
Hazet;2 VW aircoooed valve adjusters(deep and shallow), 8vlash shim pliers, valve seal pliers, 32 slugging wrench, extendable spark plug socket, and an 8v exhaust SOB spring tool.
stahlwillle 13mm long socket for tommy bar(missing), deeep spark plug socket.
Gedore 13mm wobbly tee wrench
VW 8v cam seal puller socket
aircool fan hub puller(the crowfoot knife)

Tin’s VW toolset and Porsche 356 toolsets are entirely different animals with quite different values. Sold eBay listings are the best method of determining value and even those are sometimes suspect. We found a set that was similar but not as nice as Tin’s that sold in the $1000.00 range.

Hit three estate sales today and a GS. Only the first had anything, and the last two I stopped at had me leaving quickly.
20180629_144904.jpg
Plomb extensions, deep DBE's and a small combo, Armstron extension and a couple Starrett jewellers drivers.
20180629_145211.jpg
Also had a small purchase on Ebay, Snap-on 9/32 stuff.

I also recently got one of those rag cans! at an auction. The can and a military 5 gallon water jug cost me $22.50. + tax and buyers premium.

Bobcat, you will love the Matco! roller slides I assume?

Stopped at an estate sale today, the garage and the basement workshop looked like a combination of a junk shop and a hardware store exploded. :) Apparently a couple generations of hobby mechanics had lived there. Unsorted stuff everywhere, and for some reason they closed the sale at 3pm and I got there at 2:30 so I only had a few minutes to dig around. I got a short Disston crosscut saw in reasonable shape (can still read the hallmark on the blade) for $4, a long C logo Craftsman hacksaw for $2, a similar vintage Craftsman awl for $1, and probably the neatest thing was a 1941 McMaster-Carr catalog for $5 - McMaster-Carr catalogs are fun to page through anyway, but looking at a pre-war one you find all kinds of cool stuff.

Thanks, dk. It's the most I've paid for a roller, but the 8 drawer chests are hard to come by around here so I'm pretty stoked.

Hi Boofer,
I'd say that was a pretty good deal too. That box looks lightly used. Well done.

The point was not to be exact, but to show that quick research by the seller would have shown it wasn't a ten buck item.

Here’s my haul from a little flea market I’ve never been to.
Almost missed the SO ratchet driver. Picked up some SK combos and a 1/4” drive set and a 8” Diamond adjustable.
384b7356dd1204857329b5c11368d8d2.jpg
Picked up at another booth.
A XceLite service master set in a roll.
Another Diamond adjustable, a 8” no.78 Westcott offset adjustable and a block of steel that I don’t know what it for. I’ll have to research the number S-2278-3 that’s stamped on it .

Went to what looked like a great pick, nothing I wanted.

Found an Estate Sale! They had a vise pictured, but it was already gone. I found a lot of Craftsman. I think the highlight is the New Britain set. Others are the flex head SK bent handle (looks brand new). Some Plumb extensions and wrenches. Some Snap on in the middle and the clamps.

Didn't find nothing too interesting.
Got a 4" c clamp (unmarked), two 3 way splitters for extension cords, two somewhat new fire extinguishers, easco wood splitting wedge for $5.
Can't argue about the price and having a fire extinguisher that is newer than 1983 in the garage is a bonus

Probably the last month's worth of pick-ups trolling the second and third day of sales. Too busy at work to take off the prime time sale day around here of Friday, heck a lot of sales are starting on Thursday now ! :(. Oh well at least tools picked out of the leftovers are cheap !

From top to bottom. Cool set of Duro-Chrome SAE line wrenches, Matco metric and some Herbrand SAE's. Never seen this style of Herbrand but they are very nice wrenches.

A bunch of Vulcan SAE's and a Snap-on line wrench

Another Ho Hum day around here. A lot more sales than I expected since I figure a lot of people will take next week off what with the 4th being a holiday.

I expected the first stop to probably be the best stop and for quantity it was. I got there a few min before the opening bell, but there were 5-6 early birds and one had a good pile going, including 3-4 ammo cans, and several tackle boxes. So, sloppy seconds here. I got a box for $20 ful of:

Ammco Dial indicator kit for Disc Brakes, an heavy Armstrong Clamp, container of hunting broadheads, Orange marking tape - I use this stuff camping especially for where a guy line is a trip hazard.

attachment.php

Booklet of prints of oil paintings of famous (or not so famous) western gunslingers, and a Remington recipe tin full of game and camp recipes.

attachment.php

LOTS of gun cleaning rods and kits, both rifle, pistols and Shotgun:

Edit: Forgot to mention the 10X25 Binoculars!

An odd gunbelt with a clip for holding the gun? I suslect fora 1911 style semi Auto? I'll need to google this.

More to come...

Spent $44 at the last day of an estate sale for two full Akro Mills organizers, Craftsman tap and die set, Ace letter stamps, small tool box with a mix of tools, small vise, small tool box filled with peg board hooks, a full box of of peg board hooks, drill set in the original case and a Stanley Handyman level. I would have gotten more organizers and hardware, but the place started filling up fast.

Also picked up three Tonkas for $20.20180630_130642(0).jpegIMG_20180630_131721.jpegIMG_20180630_132531_592.jpeg20180630_130446.jpg20180630_130628.jpegIMG_20180630_132531_587.jpegIMG_20180630_132531_591.jpeg

We went to a few garage sales followed up by the Tahoe flea. Most of the sales were skimpy but we found a few items. A 2 drawer PowrKraft toolbox, a 1944 dated shovel and cover, a long C Craftsman 1/4” drive box and some S-K tools.

Stil from stop one:

Another more conventional holster, but this one is also odd in that it appears to be US Military shoulder holster? Maybe for pilots for a survival gun? :dunno: More googleing, if only to find out where the stay strap goes...

Mfg markings on it:

And other stops; Taiwan Hobby vise. I had one identical to this as a kid and busted the main screw nut over tightening it... five bucks; A buck for the Drawer liner and Robertson driver, (red handle Mastercraft); Two bucks for the SK and wood handled driver (bigger one is Stanley, the other no name):

For SWMBO, A bead bag, the black gloves for my youngest, and the Crochet clips I'll probably use for ignition wrenches and the like.

Lastly a Werner "multi" ladder, the taller version. I talked them down to $15. I've been wanting one of these for a long time at a good deal!

It included the fixed "hinges" for when its used with a second ladder and the platform as a scaffold
