Went to two closing antique stores and a yard sale on a vacant lot today. Picked for 20 old door knobs including several from Old National Bank, Lufkin wood box, several hammers, North Brothers Yankee screwdriver, Barlow pocketknife and an old Ampco Drill catalog at the first store for $20.

Picked up a Craftsman toolbox, toolbox on a cart, Stanley tool carrier with several misc tools including a small hatchet, keyhole saw and c clamps for $23.71ff90df5ba2b53586ecea07446f0ce5.jpg8cdfec79c8bc30018711a74ce073a1a6.jpgae067d55e6b53d249fb2e93991b6e669.jpg03372dcad3608497f23b08f6dcc29aa9.jpg06fa0fe2db8c2580da767ca1c797a8b7.jpg50f21984b099031d4898433d100d6256.jpg5568e9c00bf5086a530aacf6a13087a3.jpgad8bcd8afca81575fdb079c360c36754.jpg

Forgot to include pics of the long C Craftsman pipe threading set that I left behind at another shop. I couldn't justify $65 on it.0121069ddb50f79debeafff996322920.jpgc2024258a1d52735013ea363c642e1ee.jpg832633a68d89f22f61b625314b7881dc.jpg

They are really well-made, by Reed (of vise fame), but that is steep, jv. I have that set, slightly older (late 40's, with all Long C marked pieces, but the Heritage era =CRAFTSMAN= logo badge). Linked to GJ thread here.

Tools I got today.
Nice haul. If you don't already know it, that long PlOmb LOs Angeles hinge handle is early production. Is the Sliding Tee the Blackhawk piece? EDIT: Disregard. I caught you mid-posting. I see the close-up now. It's a T4. 1930-1934-ish.

Nice garage sale this early this morning! Picked up this tap & die set. Two Blue Point plug wire/hose grippers. Snap-on breaker bar, flywheel turner, pulley puller, and some speciality screwdrivers. Some Fairmount body hammers and a Blue Point ******* and a pry bar. Couple of Snap-on wrenches and impact sockets. A nice set of Torx, Lisle I think. 1/4dr Matco impacts and some Craftsman 1/4drs (stainless?). And a small package of Snap-on double sided drill bits.

I did not know that. Thanks for the great info! How early production is the Plomb?

Oh and I forgot to mention. I paid about 0.50 cents each for all the tools.

Some excellent finds gents.

Catfish we really need to see that Belzer set! Great snag on the dual marked 4 incher.

I ran into this today. The box was a complete wreck. Supposedly belonged to the Salvation Army, employee use box, sold off after hurricane destruction there last year.

The tag could have been mine for $1 if I wished to drill out the rivets!

Well it was a Workmate kind of day at the one local estate sale I hit. This one has the spring steel leg retainers that always seem to be broken but all four were intact! :) It's missing the pad feet for the saw bench position but those are common replacements. The unusual find was the bench top version. It tilts into 3 additional positions, up to 45 degrees, and came with 2 wing nut clamps that will hold it to the edge of the workbench. Coolio. Add in an Eagle oiler and a paint scraper and it was still under a Jackson.14d3e46641e7bb475aea51f802c58053.jpg4bb5fb054c19621790ac6529b2fdd1cc.jpg

×2, I think that is awesome and cooler than the Snap-on "I use my tools to make a living don't touch" stickers 😂

Reminds me of this keychain I found in an old Kennedy box I bought. I'm pretty sure it's a penny smashed flat.

I did not know that. Thanks for the great info! How early production is the Plomb?
The earliest. 1920's up to mid 1930's when they went to PLVMB LA.

Your referring to the Plomb breaker bar correct?
Correct. Hinge handle is the technical/book name. (Not to be pedantic, but they are used for more than breaking nuts free.) Bad habit, sorry.

The tag could have been mine for $1 if I wished to drill out the rivets!
That thing is classic!

Thanks for the info. It looked like a great set.
It is, but just to make sure I was clear, I would not pay $65 for it, either.

And here's my contribution. Estate sale listed as TOOLS had none, apparently a family member had snagged them last minute before the sale. However, I pride myself in my ability to squeeze blood from a stone.

I found cheap tack hammer by some paint stuff in a corner of kitchen closet. The head...meh. But I have a Plomb tack hammer in need of a handle, and the handle on this is surprisingly nice. Only writing I can find is MAGNETIC on handle, ironic since hammer no longer is.

In the garage there was an old Maxwell House coffee can on the workbench that was the spare hardware stash, about half full. It was literally the only thing in the garage besides the workbench it sat on. I didn't even think just dumped it out, found this Snap-on F-67-B ratchet adapter in 3/8. Dated 1956. It has oxidization but works great.

Total damage: $1.50 :pimpflash

Love the brass tag! Here's some more photos of the belzer set. Its less complete than I thought after I pulled the imposters out. I can't find any others like it on line. Sockets are sae sizes with hex drive and marked vanadium extra Germany. The box still has the label inside.

That is a nifty find, Dan. The color of the box and the label are fantastic! A little spotty with rust, but I think it will clean up well! I have to admit there was a time I never thought I would collect anything but vintage US tools, but I've been picking up some funky UK brand wrenches here and there for the last couple years (e.g., Snail brand) and that Spezial Werkzeugfabrik Feuerbach set I picked up earlier this year really changed my mind. Are you going to start a thread? If so, I will wait to post something relevant to Belzer I have there. If not, I will post it here. Lemme know.

That box is just great! Not something we see every day. The Old World Thread crowd might like to see that. Those long u-joint tools with the roll pin look like they came off those mystery Armstrong 1/4 ratchets. Never found out what those are for. :headscrat

Guys I was tempted by the tag but they were closing up shop. Maybe another time. Wild key chain Dave.

We went to a few garage sales today since we needed a high chair for the grandbaby. I found a few tools as well. The timing light is from Wards and even though it’s not marked PowrKraft it will go in that toolbox. I picked up the K-D items because I know a guy that’s into early K-D. The like new Eddie Bauer highchair was the bargain of the day. It had dual trays and a padded cushion and went for $10.00!

I don't think I'll start a thread for it, but it is a cool looking piece. Unfortunately, I can't see it getting completed. I don't even know what the ratchet would look like.

Here you go, Dan. My one and only BELZER tool. An "Ingenieur" (Engineers') wrench.

You helped me out last year and I'd like to return the favor. This wrench is metric and obviously doesn't go in that set, but look...

...it's even marked ("VANADIUM-EXTRA Germany") exactly like the pieces in your set, and the decal does show engineers' wrenches!

PM me your address and I'll ship it off. It's just sitting here all solo and forlorn. And now you're the Belzer guy. :)

Just thinking out loud here, 3bay, and making an observation you've probably made yourself, but those two set screws look like they held something firm in that square opening. I am guessing the thumb screw moves that needle on the angle gage, but what does that do to the holder in the middle with the opening? Anything? EDIT: If it moves the holder in the middle to the precise angle set with the thumbscrew, I am guessing the holder was for something in machining. Like a very precise tool holder.

Got it! It’s John Jorgensen. Link here to a blurb in a 1933 edition of American Machinist.

Here is the patent diagram.

And here is a link to the full patent description on the USPTO site.

Great job, Lugz! I looked up by name on DATAMP with no success, concluded the patent hadn’t been awarded.
So it’s for making lathe cutter bits?

Woohoo! Alright Lugz, way to go.

Thanks. Cool to know it was patented. 1933, wow. So it’s not a 3/8 ratchet strength tester. You were right on, the knob comes out and the center piece rotates with the arrow. It’s a beast to turn even with the threaded knob completely removed. Probably hasn’t been touched in decades and there’s a little rust around the top.

Pic of the custom built tapered box too.

Edit: LS, looks to be for getting the proper angle when making a bit for thread cutting, adjustable for making bits for different type of threads.

-Don

I think that's a first for this series of threads!

BTW, not complaining--a bargain's a bargain!

Missed this last night in the middle of a Belzer buzz and then 3bay's Jorgensen jigamathig. :)

All,
I am freezing my nuts off at my boy's fall ball game, but I did sneak out to my flea at dark o'clock, and I will post pics and an 'Epic Bonehead Fail' story later.

I appreciate the offer Lugz, but I'm afraid I'm not cut out to be a Belzer guy. Another member here PM'd me and he's a legitimate Belzer guy, so the box is getting sent off to him.

freezing my nutz off...
I hear that!
Up early this morning here, and off solo to Jakes. Almost immediately drove into rain, which came down in pockets. That and cold wind were the main event at the flea. Maybe less going on than yesterday! I didn’t see much hope, but made the rounds anyway. Spent $8 along the way.
The blade is about filed away and has a good kink in it, but the etch is visible through the rust, and the handle is good with all screws on the Simonds hand saw. Not so good with the two handles, which are nearly rotted, but they had a couple screws I was hunting for other saws. A tin of cabinetry parts, including some decent lag screws. Two Bonney 10” wood handle Stillson wrenches. A Husky hex extension. A robust Blue-Point stubby screwdriver. Two Bonney 400-series tappet wrenches, and two Duro thin combos. A Stanley-style picture frame clamp, and an Indestro cliptite wall bracket.
Edit: I’ve lost track of when I posted this, but the “Perfect”-style screwdriver I picked up for a quarter turns out to be a Damon Raike & Co import from Germany, dating to the early 1920s, according to what I read on a couple other websites.
