Hit a few estate sales today - getting too cold for garage sales up here. Do you ever get the feeling you made the stops in the wrong order? I got that today. First one looked good in the ad, all sorts of random stuff, and I spotted a decent roller in the background. Well, most of the stuff was roped off as not for sale and there was one person who wanted eBay prices for stuff. Fortunately one of the other people changed her mind after people were putting stuff back down and walking away. Still, all I got was this medicine cabinet, as it will look pretty good in my bathroom. $20

Nest stop I just missed the good stuff like a '50's bicycle for $25 but I was able to pick up most of the books below (the old looking pamphlet is Kipling). $4

The last stop was one I should have hit first. So much stuff was still for sale today, the third day, the woman running it was kinda overwhelmed. I got the following, plus the Filosophy book, for $5

The nippers are geometrical C Craftsman, sockets are BE and Proto LA, along with a driver and short extension. Plomb screw out, a Snap-on mini driver, Stanley push drill bits, a Master lock and a P&C spud wrench are the high lights. If I had more time to dig I am sure I could have found more. Also, this bit of Heritage Craftsman was outside on the porch, not sure what it is, except cool

Thx Jeff same logo both sides. The key is impressive. Are these re-keayable? How is quality compared to say an Almont?

They are excellent quality. Best was bought by Stanley a while back and is now owned by DormaKaba out of Switzerland. I work on them regularly. You need a special key that removes the core and it can be rekeyed or a new core installed.
I have all of the tools and pin kits.

Bmwrd0, I’m thinking that’s a swing saw. Only seen them online. Obviously missing the “saw” parts. That’s a cool find.

I missed this.......and I can't believe it because it was such a chaotic day I didn't get the chance for my normal searches because I would have spotted it. Hope one of you cats scored it.

Note the price....they sell for a ton of money on eBay.

I have a couple rulers, combination square, that are mitutoyo made in USA. Wonder if that means they just sourced them here. (or did they have a plant here for some things?)

That is interesting. Are you in the US? About 75-80% of Mitutoyo I find here in Ohio is Japan. Remaining 20-25% is made in Brazil.

man you guys are killing it!! I have to work every day : ( BUT.... the girl I have been dating was planting some flower beds a while back at her new to her home. Its an older home. she dug up a tool in her flower bed and brought it over. It's been under my workbench for a while. She came over tonight after work for a movie and dinner. We did a clean up of her buried treasure. Turned out to be a neat little brass hammer with a wooden handle! She was super excited as it cleaned up!!

ALL: nice finds guys and keep up the great work!!

well I did manage to get the seller to hold this pair of old oak library index card holders that will work in nicely once I build my woodshop in a year or two. he found them at a school auction and didn't have any room for them. I never expected to find these in this size and when I see the huge units they are almost as expensive as a decent used car. he also is thinking of selling his pull down world maps that i'm trying to find a wall to hang one before i buy it cause i'm a bit tired of storing cool stuff at the moment.

these are 33 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 13 inches tall. I'm not exactly sure what I'll store inside them, but they are built well and should hold almost anything and hold quite a bit of weight too. sorry I forgot to pull out the thin cardboard pieces in the drawers to show the insides that have a small indent where the rods go from front to back. i'll probably just pull all the cardboard out and use them without anything since there isn't any holes in the bottom of the drawers.

Drives, Nice find!

Those wood library card files are generally too nice for most Garage/shop use! I'd love to have a set, but it would be for "clean" hobby parts and supplies. Maybe leather working and the like. Possibly wood working for "soft" and clean supplies like dowels, new hinges/hasps, or bisects for joining. Another option is collectible stuff that is not on display. No way would I be dumping nuts, bolts, screws or nails into them!

Hi folks, it's been years since I last posted on here. Usual reasons job, lost passwords, house move and life in general.
Anyway good to see all your amazing finds as ever! Here are a few of my UK finds from 2018
20181111_150337-COLLAGE.jpg
First off a few ammo cans and a metal BOSCH "lunch box" SDS drill case. Each <£5 and now holding my electric tools.

An Acorn (stanley) plane and a tiny ZIP razor blade plane.

Various clamps, as you can never have too many. Never spend over £2-3 each for anything up to 8"

Annnd finally my WIN of 2018!!!
Found an Estwing 20oz leather handle hammer at an Aautojumble.... £25!!! typically you pay £30 for a 17oz in th UK... even online!!

The scout hatchet was just £2 and is solid.. Not that I need one in a terrace house DSC_1046.jpgDSC_1047.jpgDSC_1054.jpg

Great find drives! I'd love to have a set of these but I definitely don't have room for them.

That's a great story, Rags! That handle is a Lutz File and Tool handle, by the way. (I collect file and tool handles for WWII GMTK's.) Here's a pic of a recent one...

Outlaw: as you know i've got plenty of ways to store nuts and bolts and if I can move this old AddressOgraph into my backyard after I build my woodshop it should hold the nuts and bolts nicely. yep wood dowls, brass hinges, knobs and what nots are maybe what will go in these old oak library files.

Tex and Lug: THANKS!!

So you bought this thing right? It’s not still sitting on that porch?
Naw, its still on that porch. I have at least 4 power tool resto's to do before I get time for something else.

Drives, those are sweet and I am glad she held them for you. I would definitely be finding room in the hole for those!

Found a Craig's list post for a Sunday morning sale with pics that looked pretty good. Drove about 45 mins to get there and managed to pick through a massive pile of tools on the garage floor to rescue these preferred goodies. The Mac wrenches are the Long ones, but three searches through the pile and I couldnt find a complete set. Some Mac screwdrivers, couple of impact sockets, couple of Mechanics Time Saver 1/4dr Socket holders and a Blue Point piston ring compressor set. The box lists a tool and 6 compressor straps but theres a lot more straps in there than that!...... I need to "sort out all the bits" in the box. Oh, and a Snap-on puller without the center brace, but extra arms!

I stopped into an estate sale on my way to a Spartan Sprint obstacle course race set up inside Fenway Stadium. The sale was a bit of a disappointment. I got two qts of bar oil, three partial spools of solder, two cable pulleys, four bungie cords and two hockey sticks for ten bucks. The Spartan Race was fun, but I always leave them wondering how much better I could have done if I'd trained more...or at all.

Been a rough couple of weeks with family stuff but had a few minutes to myself this AM. Found a Mossberg inch/pound screwdriver and a air shock compressor for my Ranchero, old but NIB. And it works! The driver won't accept a 5/16" hex bit, but a 7/32" drill will fit inside. Doesn't seem like it would be hard to make an adapter. All in for 10 bucks.

What's the part numbers on that Snap On puller? I may have that center brace. Also would need the length of the puller bar. My center brace is 8" long so that would be for a puller bar of around 7" to make room for the nuts.

Hit a Sunday morning estate sale. Got an S-K box with about half the original set (no ratchet, but some extra extensions and Craftsman sockets). I mainly wanted the box. (I don't collect SAE sockets or wrenches since I use them only rarely). Picked up a full can of paint thinner, a Penn Super Mariner fishing reel (with original box, tool, spare spool, lube and papers) which cleaned up really nicely, and a couple of fishing rods for re-wrapping projects.

I've already started on one of the fishing rods. They were custom-made "Rossi" fishing rods on unknown blanks. With new wrappings, grips and guides they'll be as good as new. The brass reel seat looks dirty in the pic below but it shined up really nicely.

SWMBO also picked up a German-made SECA bathroom scale (retails for $251) for $10.

Spent $55 total.

Is that a 3/4"? Most SEARS won't warrant rusty tools........and now that they are bankrupt I'd assume they will be even more picky. Better off just doing a dunk in evaporust and some wet sanding. It would be much higher quality than the possible replacements anyway.

A month ago, at a last for the season Flea market I picked up a gutless CM 1/2 ratchet for a buck. On the way back home I stopped at Sears in the Mall and was offered my choice of replacements. I passed on the raised panel for a nicely chromed one, manufactured by Danaher, 2000 plus or minus.
Is this where I say neener neener neener?

While I don't have a problem with it, you will find several people on this board that look down on those who buy broken tools with the intention of getting them warrantied. So don't expect a "you ****" from anybody.

Before this gets ugly, I'm going to interject, as the host, and ask, politely, that this go no further. Not that I don't think the subject is worthy of a GJ debate, and not that I don't have my own opinion on the matter. It is, and I do. But this is not the thread for it. If someone starts a thread, I'd be glad to offer my opinion. But let's not drag this thread down with an ill-tempered judgemental slugfest heading into the Holidays and the last leg of the year.

Picked up this BFW (Big F****** Wrench) up today for a few bucks. Anyone know what they were used for? I found a catalog online from Billings from 1948 that lists it as an “Engineer” wrench. Nearly 4 feet long with a 5” opening. Has to weigh at least 40+ pounds. High Torque Wrench in picture for idea of size.

Honestly not too sure what to do with it, is it worth anything? Or mostly wall decoration?
