Slow the last week or so. A Proto puller set for 8 dollars. If someone has a spare case let me know. The best buy was not a tool. A 1941 Chelsea USN Deck Clock.

Tin, nice puller too.
Pouring rain today and only one Craigslist garage sale mentioned tools so we checked it out. Pretty sparse but we picked up a Craftsman ball peen hammer, some Diamalloy lineman’s pliers and an unmarked screwdriver. At least it got us out of the house.

Those lineman's pliers are actually built for tying wire for rebar. The shape of the one handle is designed to help hold the hand's grip on the pliers.

Extra luck for extra thanks on Thanksgiving day:
Partial set of SW CARD tap and die set (with 3 extras from GTD, ACE and Blue point) which I bought for 3$ (sitting on top of my relatively new Kennedy which I bought for $20)
I started a new thread about it on Vintage Tool Board

Another Craftsman RAS bounty buy, but this one came with a pair of bonuses attached!

A Power Bronze three drawer cabinet with period correct roller kit attached to the bottom. Up top, a work light on the saw top! All for $50.

I'll likely marry the cabinet with the bronze RAS I bought two weeks ago and preserve these bits of history.

The lift pistons are jammed up on the front wheels, dont know about the back ones. I'll see if I can free them up tomorrow.

The cabinet under the RAS I bought today was a time capsule of Craftsman literature. The previous owner was one of those types that kept EVERYTHING. Man, I would love to have some of those RAS accessories. How about those plans for an RAS workbench!?! Look closely at some of those addresses and phone numbers....63e7e5f876354ce9f7c76609f3ee5ed7.jpg6a1040ce22cd8220dbb1042036726b2a.jpgc79771617ff961a32d74cb95707e3793.jpga85c8992e2a919ed801bbe2cc0314a8a.jpg1b2d1acb7b15bf10857a21132aa614a1.jpg74108b3d76f6cdfcdf6e49175884d060.jpg630884a71c35d0ebff1fa412f5032bbe.jpge8ba5b6455b5c7e22857582751e2d350.jpge4fa71664d36fe7957c54866b7508608.jpgd8f41d5896b6f216e21eeeb784d22551.jpgeb1aaadcd055f23017fb58d3156274e2.jpgf91b535a60a5e965671b972a7b6a40d2.jpg614b8f2795ac67818a87064bade276d8.jpg

Man, you guys are still doing great!

Between the Holiday, and the (very badly needed) rain, it's almost nothing here, and nothing I'm interested in going to.

But we had the family over for turkey day, and my brother and SIL brought me some camp gear they no longer use, found while doing post-retirement clearing out: the camp gear was bought by my SIL mostly for backpacking but included one Coleman 220 double mantle lantern still in the box, with extra mantles and instructions, and hardly used at all; dated 1973.

attachment.php

The stove is a SEVA123 and I have been watching for one for quite a while! they are usually more than I wanted to pay, and this one still has the original box and instructions!

A Made in West Germany Fuel bottle:

attachment.php

Its near full and there was also a gallon can of Camp fuel with enough to possibly refill the lantern.

Then there was this steel box that had belonged to my SIL's grandfather - Kinda cool, and I'll find a use for it...:

Outlaw, that's an unusual box, is that a crinkle finish on it? Any idea what it was made for? :headscrat

Went to an estate sale today and picked up this long C Craftsman DP. I plan to spiff it up a bit and keep it. Don't know the year yet. Almost didn't go in because there was a long line and I asked the woman at the end of the line how fast it was moving and she said slowly. I'm not patient enough to wait in line for an estate sale but she said I don't have to wait to go to the lower level of the house, where the TOOLS are. Why yes, thank you I will go to the lower level. :lol_hitti The DP was still there and it ran smoothly so I bought it. Really like the look of the old DP's

I haven’t looked it up, but with the 2-arm handle, I’m guessing it’s a '36.

Get a third pulley on it and you should have a nice little work horse on your bench.

The rain stopped so I made a quick trip to the Concord flea. About half as many vendors as usual, probably due to the holiday weekend, and some high prices, but I found a few reasonably priced tools. The pictures are everything, PowrKraft, Craftsman, Proto, S-K, D-I and a Xcelite 1/4” magnetic long nutdriver.

What is the period of these wheels? Anyone know of drop in replacements? 2 of mine seem to be chair wheels, and they don't clear when steering.
Lifts freed right up with a touch of heat.

BlueBomber, that Kenmore self-service wrench is for unclogging a sink waste disposer. The bottom of the disposer has a hex socket that you fit the tool in like an Allen wrench. The socket is in the end of the motor shaft.

Thanks, gents! This is the 6th Craftsman RAS I've bought this year for $50 or less. I've scrapped four for the recall, so I'm still ahead on the two I've kept.

Thanks, Provincial! Once you said that, I clearly recognize its application.

Ole Slew: the original paper for the wheels was also in the library of literature. It's not dated (that I saw) but it does show the caster pretty clearly.f89695c39a48c7cbbc9da64a776fa7cf.jpg

Paid $40 and it didn’t run but had compression. A little basic maintenance an some TLC and she is running like a top. 7.5 hp and a beast. Probably 20 years old.

You ****. I've been looking for an old Craftsman drill press for a while now. Nice find!

Picked the 1967 powermatic belt sander with the original base for $150. Not a bad pick.

Chrislehr, could you post a couple more photos of that belt sander if you get a chance? Nice find.

Did some Christmas shopping and found a nice item for Us to give Us - tangled air hoses are a pain. This Balcrank reel was $25, but of course I was duty-bound to try talking them down. They agreed to go down far enough to eat the sales tax (10%!). After I got it home I noticed it was rated for "fluid" pressure, which instantly made me wonder whether this was the engineering term or ordinary. I looked it up on the net and found it was the engineering sense of the word, specifically saying it was for air, water, oil and antifreeze. It also listed the price-deeply discounted to $350!!
I've started disassembly, and everything looks good, if dirty - mainly, the spring is intact.
I'm planning to de-rust and paint and replace all the o-rings. I'd like to e-tank it, but that would destroy the aluminum tag. Anyone know a good non-destructive way to remove it? The little rivet-like fasteners do not go clear through the bracket - being able to punch them out from the back side would be way too easy.
I know at 3/16" thick that bracket will long outlive me even if it's hanging out in the rain, but I still would like to make it look as good as I can.

The big spur gear is for SWMBO, who considers old round cast iron things to be treasure. Yup, she's a treasure!:)

See post 7378.

I don't think yours is a '37. There are some old catalogs posted in the Vintage Tools forum that pretty thoroughly pin mine down as a '36, and that style was still in the '40 catalog (with a couple of very minor changes). Since yours has a one-piece pulley cover, not the two-piece shown in the '40 catalog, I suspect it is later. The 101.XXXXX model number does indicate it's an Atlas.

There's also a thread on how I fabbed a replica of the missing piece of my two-piece pulley cover, a conical topknot that just covers the protruding spindle shaft.

Bob. I usually go under the heads of blind rivets like that with a sacrificial wood chisel. decently sharp and tap under till it starts up. once started you can either "claw hammer" it out, or possibly grip with pliers and likely need to twist, as they often have a twisted spline.

What do you guys think about a used Wright Tools #714 wrench set for $40 (asking price, thought about offering $30). Not sure how often I’ll use an SAE set at home, but they’d get occasional use. The 3/8” and 9/16” have been replaced with craftsman, all others are Wright and appear to be in good shape. Something you’d buy?

Paid $40 and it didn’t run but had compression. A little basic maintenance an some TLC and she is running like a top. 7.5 hp and a beast. Probably 20 years old.

Based on the Ariens site your blower was sold between 1965 and 1975. I'm basing this on the circular A logo and the font of the Ariens logo.

http://www.ariens.com/en-us/company/history

I have 2 smaller Ariens 3-1/2 HP 20 inch 2-stage models that are really nice small machines. I just grabbed a spare 3-1/2 HP Tecumseh Snow King motor off another junked snowblower as a spare.

Good luck with you "new to you" snow blower.

Cheers

Jim

Sounds like an excellent price. They come in the denim pouch?

I hope you're posting from your car on your way to pick these up - wife driving, of course. With $40 in your pocket.
