Sounds like an excellent price. They come in the denim pouch?

Apparently, yes.

Note: If I can find this post in 3 minutes your fellow Dayton GJ members will to. And they won't post here to talk about it!

Haha if someone beats me to them it’s not that big of a deal. I’m stuck out of state right now anyway until tomorrow some time. They’ve been on there longer than the 4 days. I’ve seen them several times, kept thinking about it and not acting. I think the guy deleted the post and reuploaded it at least once or twice.

The 3/8" and 9/16" appear to be Craftsman.

Also, it appears to be a older, non-Wright-Grip set. Not a big deal for home use.

.

Yeah I noticed they appeared to be a bit older than the Wright grip metric set that I have. Like you said, shouldn’t be an issue for occcasional home use. Sent the guy a text. As long as he doesn’t pull one of those Facebook marketplace stunts where he tells me to come get them at 9:00 and then tells someone else to come get them at 8:00 I should be set.

The big spur gear is for SWMBO, who considers old round cast iron things to be treasure.
She has a good eye and instincts! They are popular as antique-y mantleplace bric-a-brac with the "Restoration Furniture" type crowd.

And some sculptors are always looking for them, too! :)

What do you guys think about a used Wright Tools #714 wrench set for $40 (asking price, thought about offering $30). Not sure how often I’ll use an SAE set at home, but they’d get occasional use. The 3/8” and 9/16” have been replaced with craftsman, all others are Wright and appear to be in good shape. Something you’d buy?

Aww,hell I'd give 'em $40 and I'm in Detroit. I'd be tempted to text and ask if they take paypal and understand flat rate shipping:) And then spend $20 on Ebay to get two matching wrenches OCD is a terrible thing....

As this thread is directly responsible for my collection of C clamps going from 0 to 60+ in the past 6 months I thought it was about time I started contributing.

First up is today's haul. Starting from left to right:

Ridgid E14 pipe wrench
JP Danielson Co Inc 12 in. adjustable wrench
Kraeuter 1801-8 1/2 pliers
Frank Mossberg Co K-9 auto wrench
Craftsman 8 in. adjustable wrench
Craftsman 6 in. adjustable wrench
Kraeuter 1801-6 pliers
Kraeuter 1671-6 pliers
Kraeuter 1660-6 pliers

The chisel is PowerKraft, the 3/8 extension is a long C Craftsman. Grand total $17.

Last weekend i picked up this Craftsman drill press (103.0305) at an estate sale. It appears to be original and very complete. And it works, so that is a plus.

Wow second day 50 percent off and you still find stuff. Best for me was the incomplete lectrolite rooll, the little rayovac flashlight, and the so Wayne chisel.any idea on who made the metric/standard marked wrenches?

Bridgeport seems to be the big leader in dual marked wrenches, but i don't know if those are.
For the age of those wrenches (I have a few), Bridgeport was the exclusive maker of dual imperial/metric marked wrenches, as far as I have been able to determine, so I agree with Old Slewfoot, and I would say almost certainly BHM. They were marketing them for export as early as the 1940 catalog.

Bob. I usually go under the heads of blind rivets like that with a sacrificial wood chisel. decently sharp and tap under till it starts up. once started you can either "claw hammer" it out, or possibly grip with pliers and likely need to twist, as they often have a twisted spline.

Thanks, Outlaw. The most sacrificial, sharpest, thinnest chisel I could think of was a razor knife blade. That, plus a chunk of steel to hammer on and a little bitty hammer did the trick. One disintegrated at the first tap, two sheared off, and the third popped out, revealing why they didn't go through. Looks like they were just pounded right into solid metal - no hole at all!

Okay, enough hijacking this thread. Guess I'll start a (re-) Build Thread.

See post 7378.

I don't think yours is a '37. There are some old catalogs posted in the Vintage Tools forum that pretty thoroughly pin mine down as a '36, and that style was still in the '40 catalog (with a couple of very minor changes). Since yours has a one-piece pulley cover, not the two-piece shown in the '40 catalog, I suspect it is later. The 101.XXXXX model number does indicate it's an Atlas.

There's also a thread on how I fabbed a replica of the missing piece of my two-piece pulley cover, a conical topknot that just covers the protruding spindle shaft.

Bob, thanks for the info on my DP. I checked out your thread about making your spindle cover, that turned out great, nice job.

Based on the Ariens site your blower was sold between 1965 and 1975. I'm basing this on the circular A logo and the font of the Ariens logo.

http://www.ariens.com/en-us/company/history

I have 2 smaller Ariens 3-1/2 HP 20 inch 2-stage models that are really nice small machines. I just grabbed a spare 3-1/2 HP Tecumseh Snow King motor off another junked snowblower as a spare.

Good luck with you "new to you" snow blower.

Cheers

Jim

Thanks Jim. I have a soft spot for the old stuff but didn’t realize this was that old. She runs like a tank. Thanks.

Got the Wright wrench set today. Went to look this morning and they were in better shape than they appeared in the photo, so I just gave the guy his $40 and took them. Already ordered the two missing sizes from amazon for $21 shipped. Unfortunately they are the ultra polished chrome Wright Grip so my OCD will just have to deal with it. If anyone has the two missing sizes in the older style satin for sale let me know, but for obvious reasons I don’t want to pay more than $21 shipped.

Hit the ReStore on Friday at lunch and got 20 cans of primer plus 4 cans of God awful chalk paint because I had to buy the whole box. Priced at $24, but it was 60% off, so 40 cents a can.

Flea market on Sunday and grabbed this Dazor p2324 desk lamp for $10. It had been in the rain the day before, but I blew it out, cleaned it up and checked all the connections and she fired right up.

I think our store are total opposites on inventory and pricing. Haha

quest

My local ReStore has enough old doorknobs and bathroom fixtures to sink a great lakes freighter, but I’ve never seen a tool anywhere, or consumables like spray paint, etc. I think their focus is 100% on building materials.

Before ours closed, they had enough sofas and desks to fill probably 75% of their floor.

I did score up a bunch really heavy slatwall for $8 though.

No affiliation, yada yada yada, but I can't steal this guy's ingenious awesomeness and not share the link to his Rogers, Minnesota etsy store, at least! Link here.

It's too bad good ideas like this or so easy to copy. I know I am thinking of making one right now! :)

Haha. He's got a variety with different set-ups (a Jaegermeister version with slots for shot glasses, for example). Also a humidor version for cigars. I admire the follow-thru. Most of my ideas end up where they started.

Who lives near Dallas? Kaufman, to be exact.

I know Rags is a couple hours away. Mike? Anybody?

I'm trying to close a deal on CL. I would PayPal you. You would pay the seller cash. And he would ship the item to me.

PM me please.

Haha. Busted. That was automatic! Rare. Legendary name. NJ. 1940's. Sold! I will put it right next to the Onli-1 socket set case with the "King Tool Co. Asbury Park, N.J." embossed on the lid! :)

If I can find somebody to pick it up for me!

Slim pickings at the fleas recently, very cold on the weekends and little time. Here's my saves over the past month or so:

-pair of shears marked "H.K. Porter, Inc", handles made of bent sheet metal
-antique pliers with a hammer underneath it (???), no markings anywhere
-2 pairs of tin snips, one is WISS, other is Crescent Tool. The Crescent has "WPA" stamped into the side, perhaps 1930s Works Progress Administration?
-odd-looking tie-down ring of some sort, no markings. What kind of nut would fit this?
-pair of hammer heads, one claw and one smaller ball pein
-set of very thin Hoppes/RCBS bore brushes, .17 caliber

Totally. Awesome find. I am guessing you got a great "deal" on a "New Deal" tool!
