I was up late one night perusing an auction house that I follow on occasion. Had some decent tools. They are not local to me, but they are to my brother and he is usually willing to pick stuff up for me.

I bid on a couple of items, knowing that I’ll be outbid the next day while I’m at work.

I was surprised a couple of days later when I got an email saying I had won one of the lots.

Had to go and look and see what I won, and how much I had spent.

Well, I must have been tired, because I did overpay, and they are in Idaho until my next trip. But I got some kinda cool vintage levels, a wrench, and a crowbar36ea5342cb7feccc049da7bf2e5aeb0b.jpg

Ditto, Outlaw. This year's thread has set a new record for participation, and Lugz a new bar for thread hosting. It has been a lot of fun this year.

Nothing for me to run after this weekend. Once again, I'll be moving around the junk I already have, trying to clean up the garages. Good luck, pickers!

That was one stop.

I have no idea what you paid nor do I care. I'm giving you a "YOU ****" just on sheer volume. I haven't seen that many ratchets if I total up the entire year's worth of estate & yard sales. Holy moly!

I got rained out. Which is bad news for you guys because I'm on my fifth cup of coffee, I'm feeling a little hyped and giddy, I just got finished with my "Picker of the Year" post, and my verbosity has reached new heights!

Stand by....! :)

It’s time for you guys to help me pick who is going to get
this
”2018 PICKER OF THE YEAR” trophy!

attachment.php

attachment.php

For starters, I have to admit that this was much harder to pull off than I thought it was going to be on January 1, 2018, when I first announced the idea. As a thread, we had a really good year. I’ll be talking more about statistics in my Host’s Re-Cap, which I will post on New Year’s Eve – but for now, note that we had 52 members with 36 or more posts. On average, that’s 52 guys hitting some kind of sale 3 times per month. Thirty-eight (38) guys with 50 or more posts! That’s 50 guys hitting at least 1 sale every week. With that kind of volume, it’s no wonder we had so much Major Suckage!

I could go on and on about my criteria – a balance of quantity and quality, consistency, and the intangibles, but let’s face it, it’s all subjective, and I went with my gut.

About a week ago I had a list of 15 guys and I went through all their posts. Ideally, I would’ve liked to have whittled it down to 3 names, but I ended up with 7. I was wrangling with this for the last 48 hours, and then I thought, WTF, O?, I’m the host, this whole thing was my idea, and it’s my trophy! HAHAHA!

Following this will post you will find a “Candidate Profile” for the seven (7) Finalists!

(Yeah, I was rained out today and I had some fun with it!)

ALSO, NOTE THAT THE PROFILES ARE BEING POSTED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER!

I will re-emphasize that this is totally subjective and a different host may have picked seven (7) equally-deserving but completely different guys! But this is my list.

Please help me pick ONE (1) of them by voting in the 2018 Garage Sale Thread Picker of the Year Poll that I will post very shortly.

LUG: CAN'T WAIT. i'm grabbing another cold mug out of the freezer and more freshly made ice tea. (looks like you made the big post while I was typing so I'm off for fresh tea and a good read).

ALL: even though i'm moving out of my shop and cheap storage I couldn't resist picking up this FREE LOAD. anybody know that FREE isn't really FREE if you consider gas, time, and storage fees, but dang when I start building stuff with it i'm sure going to be smiling.

only thing I can afford is FREE lately with all the money I just spent on new trailer and Honda Pilot tires. oh well i'm good for another 40-80,000 miles again.

cheers and hope you all have a great weekend!!

First Lady: His ‘Best Gal,’ the ever-present bargain-hunting SWMBO, who often leads the picking adventures!

Brand Affiliation: Independent

Most likely to be found at: Estate Sales, picking things up off the side of the road, TOO’ing with his daughter in her ‘65 Malibu, or in ‘The Ravine Behind His Parents Barn’ (see more on that under “Achievements” below!)

Automatic Payments: DBE Wrenches

Achievements: No awards, per se, but if he thinks I forgot about the ‘The Great 1954 VMC 33 Coke Machine Excavation’, linked here, he’s wrong! It was just uncategorizable!

In his own words: “This forum is a graduate level program in history, negotiations, finance, investing and American and sometimes British culture. I love it.” And my favorite, “I wish I could Google my tools.
------------------------------------------------------------------

BlueBomber’s first find was a pair of blue Channelocks, linked here, and his last find was a Yakima roof rack system, linked here. Um, no big deal, right? Right. Except they were found in or on the side of the road. For Free!

His most memorable highlights have to be the six (6) Crafty RAS’s, all under $50, four (4) scrapped for the recall, plus a Power Bronze 3-drawer cabinet with period correct roller kit, the last one with a Crowntop RAS Library of Literature, linked here.

Campaign Planks:
Huge Snap-on stack: Link.
Wilton 9300 Bullet: Link.
Parts cabinet, Cutting board, motion sensor, Delta 1.5HP Wood Shaper and a Delta 1.5HP Table Saw: Link.
Wilton Baby Bullet and Power Arm: Link.
Crafty 6-1/8” Jointer on two pedestal factory legs: Link.
26’ Wooden Extension ladder: Link.
FREE Trampoline to salvage the curved steel for a firewood rack: Link.
Antique 1899 E.C. Stearns saw vise, and three Toyota Wheel Covers he converts with his SWMBO into yard art flowers: Link.

Other stuff: Crafty grinder, Draw-Tite, 36” Walco pipe wrench, Milwaukee electric chain saw, complete Proto midget set, ViseGrips, Swingline heavy duty staple gun kit, hammer handles, rebar, 32” LCD TV for FREE,, Two Trow & Holden 2-lb hammers, Millers Falls No 48C hack saw--cool handle, New-in-box Hax-a-con 24S 60-watt soldering iron--never been used!, jack stands, Millers Falls No. 2 Auger Handle, hickoy does foot axe handle, huge chain pipe wrench, Versamatic chuck, and a Heritage Crafty ¾ nutspinner set

HOST’S TAKE: Half of BB’s posts are not his own hauls. Keep that in mind when voting for your 2019 Host. He is one of the most congratulatory, encouraging and helpful guys on the thread. He didn’t seem to get out this year as much as other years, but he is never sour about it, and he had a sneaky good year, filling up the back of his truck with some huge and also some high-quality hauls. (You know we had a good year as a thread when a Wilton Baby Bullet with Power Arm does NOT win an award!) I admire his sharp eye (from the U-Turns to the curbside crawls) and his cunning (from the RAS Recalls to the re-purposing) and affability.

One interesting sale here this morning supposedly with "...tools, tools and more tools..." but I'm not going. After cancelling it yesterday and NOT updating his ad it was bad on him. After he told me to swing by, he again no-showed but at least texted to say he'd be over another hour before he got back, it was bad on me. He texted me this morning to say the sale is on come on by but I'm not giving the guy a 3rd attempt.

Every now and again, probably more often than that, you find flakey sellers on CL. Heck, I tried buying a wheelbarrow for about two weeks from a couple of CL sellers. It was like pulling teeth trying to get them to respond to their ads. They both agreed to a price then wouldn't respond. I finally wrote them both off. The wheelbarrows are still for sale. SMH.

GS Threader since: 2016

# of Posts 2018: 161

Brand Affiliation: Independent (but leans regionally P&C)

First Lady: A Mrs. Beemer who appreciates cool things in her house like vintage 50’s wooden medicine cabinets: here!

Achievements: Finalist for RAREST FIND with Plomb weeder, linked here and BEST HAUL for Snap-on 5/8 set, Bonney pouch, and TAC crowfoot set, linked here.

Automatic Payments: Bakelite multimeters and books

Most often seen at: Estate Sales, the ReStore, Tractor Show Swap Meets, and TOO’s in between

In his own words: “I don’t know why I bought it.
-----------------------------------------------

Campaign planks:
An almost complete '30's Hinsdale set, with flex, both drive studs, two speeders, ratchet, ell handle, Hinsdale reefer set, linked here.
Old P&C socket box, linked here, and P&C tool board and P&C top box
“Letter punch set (missing the S and the K...)”… Hmmm. S-K fan? Link.
MADE IN SWEDEN Svea 123 backpacking/mountaineering stove: Link.
PROTO MFD puller set in a PROTO LA Box: Link, and PROTO screwdriver key
Hand vise: Link
Loaded Duplex exterior cantilevered box: Link.
An unfired K-38 S&W, new in box, made in 1970: Link.

Beemer’s idea of a “small haul” at an “afterthought sale” is linked here.

Typical haul: Assortment of tools, classic books (including Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, by Annie Dillard) and an unused Long C circle H set, linked here.

Other stuff: Long C Craftsman lathe, Wartime Gertsner machinist chest, 50’s Union machinists chest, Worm drive saw, Skil mag 77, Snap-on KR657A, Red Plomb 5265 box, Millers Falls vise, Morris chair, Singer model 27 from about 1890, Little NB midget set with wood-handled driver and flex head, and a vintage Herter’s reloading scale, Shop Books (incl a 21st Ed. Machinery’s Handbook!) and magazines also literary – Ambrose Bierce's Devils Dictionary and Kipling's poetry, both hardcover with dust jacket from the '30's, Frank Norris, O. Henry, Vintage 8 tube radio, Plomb 47XX set for $4

HOST’S TAKE: Beemer seems to fall in that “Selective” category, until you realize he goes large pretty often, too. Mix of collectibles and users. ‘Always on his A Game’ type of collector. Knows his guns. And anyone whose son lives in Philly gets an automatic nod from me. Also, extra points for having to compete regionally with Rileysan, Smokeshow, shanny19, and others in the PNW Mafia. Like your host, a literature guy, with shop books and a capital L.

# of Posts 2018: 72

Brand Affiliation: Independent

First Lady: A Mrs. Duddly, who gave him a display cabinet for his tools as an anniversary present! Linked here.

Achievements: Won BEST HAUL award for the antique Starrett, Brown & Sharpe, Lufkin and other signs, linked here, and was a Finalist for the OLDEST FIND, a late 1800’s pocket watch linked here.

Most likely to be seen at: a CL seller’s house

In his own words: “Sometimes you just see something on Craigslist that makes you go WHAAAAT?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Signature non-garage find: “Angeles” Flea Market wagon – to haul his tool and non-tool finds! Link.

First haul of the year: a leg vise, a Cincinnati grinder, and a tiny (No. 2H!) Yankee Handyman ratcheting screwdriver! Link.

Campaign planks:
Mossberg wood box socket set: Link.
Packer Auto “Ray” logo ratchet, Toledo Speedway drill 1950, SK Machinists/mechanics box, dozens of Loom heddle hooks, Bausch & Lomb safety goggles in original steel case: Link.
Craftsman hobby lathe, on a cabinet stand, with tooling: Link.
Converted bowling pin lamps and an industrial sewing machine: Link.
Starrett 443 wood box socket set: Link.
Key machine, Vulcanizer, Angeles “flea market” wagon: Link.
Granite surface block: Link.

HOST’S TAKE: Duddly is a high-minded highly-selective low-volume picker with good, eclectic taste, in the mode of collectors such as yours truly (if I can be so bold to say that…), LesserSon, and Mike_Paxton, just to name a few examples, who sticks to mainly collectibles, but he will fool you, too, with serious user shop tools (See Granite Surface Block for example). Doesn’t get out a lot, but when he does, wow, does he make it count!

# of Posts 2018: 760

Brand Affiliation: Independent – but a not-so-secret Long C member

First Lady: The famous and oft-mentioned SWMBO!

Achievements: His c.1860’s Peter Wright anvil, linked here, was a Finalist for the OLDEST and BEST DEAL awards, and his aluminum frame B&D Workmate, linked here, was a Finalist for the RAREST award.

Automatic Payments: Anything Coleman, anything SWMBO would like, Heller Masterrenches, knives, and, apparently, hose nozzles

Most likely to be seen at: Multi-house block garage/yard sales, Freecycle, and every once in a while a church rummage sale or live public auction

In his own words: “Another ho-hum day around here” and “…”for SWMBO
--------------------------------------------------------

Everything you need to know about Outlaw you can learn in ‘8 days in May’. On the 6th he overturned his camping trailer, linked here. On the 14th he had a new one, linked here.

Typical haul: Norlund hatchet (his 3rd!) with leather blade cap, vintage bait holder, Wagner Magnalight pots and pans, a copper scuttle, a green telephone pole insulator, a Versa Vise, a stainless steel “garbage can”, a toy cannon, a ceramic figurine that he thought was a snow man but was a clown (for SWMBO, who hates clowns! HAHA) and a brass pig: Link.

Campaign Planks:
Knife sheath, big brass bell, clamps, a Persons (Worcestrer Mass) Majestic bicycle siren, speakers, a hacksaw frame, and a Tee ball: Link.
A year’s supply of sandpaper, a trailer wheel balancer, vintage circular saw attachment for hand drill, vintage Mustang gas cap, a brass guard, and a Pacific Saw Co rip saw Link.
Gun cleaning kit, Remington tin of came games and recipes, and 10x25 binoculars: Link.
Colonial silverware, antique Japanese fan, and World’s Smallest C-clamp: Link.
Crafty Heritage era reticulating lamp Link.
Gallon of WWII rifle bore cleaner – Unopened! Link.
Packer Auto “Ray” socket set: Link.
Early NB socket set in homemade wood box: Link.

Other stuff: Metal pine cone candleholders, enameled LL pins, retracting hose reel, carbs, 4-lb propane tank, lubricants, paints, and oils, ½ HP and 1/20th HP motors, Outboard motor tank, partial Snao-on midget set, B&C monkey wrench, magnetic tow lights, C clamps, knives, a level, and a porcelain funnel, Garman GPS/Navigator (free!), military poncho, bottles pf MAPP gas, 26 key Honner Piano Melodica, tambourine, Coleman milk glass shade, DeWalt grinder, ornate glass decoupage vase, Reed vise, aviators, Homack long gun safe, Wallace Brewing mini-keg and a wooden vintage Carter Carb container with a needle jet assembly still in, Light duty hitch carrier, Alladin Model B lamp, Antique Canedy Otto No. 0 Post Drill, Bell System claw hammer

HOST’S TAKE: Because of all the sandpaper and the hooks and the cans of thinner, it’s perilously easy to mischaracterize Outlaw as a “Practicalist.” Nearly every haul always has something useful (whether garage, kitchen, or camp related), but a lot of hauls also have something artsy or craftsy or musical, and something collectible. He is an equal opportunity vacuum cleaner and the epitome of consistent. He is a Garage Sailor’s Garage Sailor, with an eye as sharp for slices of agate, a placarded water main pipe cross-section sample, and a Johnny Cash guitar shaped patch as a Long C soldering kit and a NOS leather Crowntop toolbag. He has had some big years here. I can’t remember a bigger one.

Achievements: Won the RAREST FIND award with Atomic Rock, linked here.

Automatic Payments: Anything with Plomb, A. Plomb, or PLVMB on it

Most likely to be found at: Yard/Garage/Estate sales and Flea Markets, but trolls eBay as well

In his own words: “Stumbled upon a Shop sale, a block from my house this morning…
-----------------------------------------------------

First haul, January 21st, he picks up a complete Tomahawk hex drive socket set, with midget and standard pieces, in the holder, marked, as well as an unusual 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and calls it “slim pickins”, linked here.

Another typical haul: Two file cabinets for storage, A few wall signs, Ford, Model A, and a Plomb 8130 pry bar, linked here.

Other stuff: Plomb tack hammer, Duro-Chrome valve tool, Bonney midget box, travel cribbage boards, green metal Bausch & Lomb goggles case, Stanton Bro, Greenfield Mass. Pat Mar 1 1870 level, offset Proto eggbeater drill, Wilton 1/3 HP Challenger bench grinder, Calif Tools 15/16 special wrench... (eBay $2), Bemis & Call S-adjustable, Complete Imperial Brass swaging toolset, Gramercy drafting set and a box of tools for $10, Complete late 40’s Craftsman BE set a week later, Pizza sign (for his SIL), Holland and Wilton Shop King vises

HOST’S TAKE: Rags is one of those HIGH-VOLUME pickers who also has a good eye for the unusual piece. Tools, more tools, and mainly tools, but he will surprise you (see antique nutcracker, WWI German scope, and ‘Pizza’ signs). Mix of collectibles and users. Known for photos showing glimpses of his classy Flathead Ford hot rods, and food! Speaking of which, the kind of collector you’d like to have a big steak and a beer with. ;)

Achievements: Finalist in the RAREST FIND category with his 1800’s #10 Rabbet plane, linked here.

Most likely to be found at: a CL seller’s house

Automatic Payments: vintage Dominoes sets and B&D Workmates

In his own words: “You guys are bad influences!
---------------------------------------------------

Mike’s first fifteen (15) posts were comments on other people’s finds. His first report, on January 18, was a CL find with a flaring kit, an Allen midget driver, and Mayhew punch set. It was off to the races after that!

Campaign planks:
KR531A with Bicentennial key fob: Link.
3-Drawer Select-A-Spring Chest Link.
4-drawer military cabinet stuffed with vintage tools, Equipto cabinet, Workmate, Rifle Cleaning kit, The Craftsman 6-drawer tool chest stuffed with tools Link.

HOST’S TAKE: Mike is a woodworker, but dove into everything else head first right quick. Mix of users and collectibles. He brought home a STUNNING volume of cabinets, chests and machinery. And anyone who recognizes the wonder and beauty in the synchronicity of seeing a wild turkey on the road on the way to a sale and then finding a pen-and-ink drawing of wild turkeys at the sale (linked here) is a picker operating at an elevated level of awareness and purpose. Quite a debut for a rookie!

Brand Affiliation: Plomb, Snap-on

First Lady: Yes, but this little cutie, linked here, gets top billing!

Automatic Payments: Plomb, Snap-on, and anything painted OD

Achievements: Winner of the BEST SCORE award for this Hazet kit, linked here, and a RAREST FIND Finalist, for this Plomb WF-6 spinner, linked here.

Most likely to be found at: Estate and Garage Sales, but has done very well at Surplus Stores

In his own words: Are you kidding me? You actually expected to see something here? Have you seen his posts? The man has something against verbs, prepositions and the return key. I was going to leave this blank in honor of his terseness!
--------------------------------------

Note: The only reason I didn’t count his VERY rare USN NAF WWII Plomb midget set with all the pieces marked NAF (nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has this set!), linked here, is because the Plomb WF-6 is even rarer. And the only reason I didn’t include his EXTREMELY RARE WWII NOS Jeep Bristol wrenches!, linked here, is because they are too esoteric for the thread. But then, on top of all that, he also finds a near-complete 1934 Craftsman C-Series (Snap-on made!) ½-inch drive set, linked here, and, at the end of the year, a WF-21-S crank ratchet, linked here. Those are all once-in-a-lifetime finds. In one year.

Other campaign planks:
Complete Bog 7/16-inch hex drive set, with holder, and T handle: Link.
Empty Snap-on Electro-Set case and 41-C-15 tool cabinet: Link.
Snap-on Extension set in steel case, Cornwell blue-handled specialty pliers set: Link.
Complete Blue-Point tap and die, NOS Wilson welding goggles: Link.
Six (6) vintage ratchets – including two (2) Plomb WF’s and three (3) Williams Superratchets - for $6!: Link.
Fairmount hammer, Diamond Calk pick head, Vaughn & Bushnell hammer with a cool unique logo. Link.
Proto puller set and 1941 Navy ship’s clock Link.

Just the rollers and top box stacks:
Craftsman: Link.
OTC and HUOT Link.
Western Forge and Waterloo (filled with tools): Linked here and here.

Other stuff: Remains of Duro Chromium Vanadium set, Blackhawk 1/2 drive speeder, Blackhawk 1/4 drive spinner, Ratchets 2-Husky, 2-Plomb, 1-Proto, 1-Thorsen and 1 unknown, Bonney gapper, Proto Pro chisel, 2 SO screwdrivers, 1 SO Torx driver ($50), Ink-Stamped IRWIN, Schrader US ARMy ORD tire gage, Crafty hammer, WWII binoculars case, Duro-Chrome and Richmont torkers, full set of crows feet, Blue Point Reamer set, Complete SK set, Indestro box, Pierce-Arrow screwdriver, a set of Bonney waterpump wrenches

HOST’S TAKE: Tin Medic is one of the sneakiest of the sneaky-great collectors. Doesn’t post much. Obviously. And doesn’t say much when he posts. But the man can pick! He had a year that would absolutely ka-ruuuuush the ego of any excessively self-respecting collector back into humble size – this one included. ‘Nuff said!

LUG: you may or may not be done, but i'm already heading for a new cold mug of ice tea. I won't have time to read these all today, but wanted to say again that you have had a great way to make PICKING FUN even if you won't buy the entire box of old rusty tools very often.:bowdown::bowdown:

Fantastic breakdown of the candidates, Lugz! Didn’t make voting any easier, though, because they’re all GREAT PICKERS. Good luck at the polls, gents!
Cold rain today. Stopped at Quakertown flea mkt en route to Philadelphia. Three vendors under awnings, one had some tools. I paid the $5 asking price because it isn’t in bad shape, and I can use it. Also spotted a longC C’man Vanadium dbe and a 1924(JP) Bonney 401A tappet wrench, but neither called to me today.

Awesome job of presenting the candidates Lugz!

Not sure its going to help picking a winner though! As you said; no one could object o any of them! Well, six of of seven maybe! ;) (Not sure I belong with such an illustrious crew this year! - It seemed slow to me!)

Even going by the "campaign planks" it's difficult to select the best! but I'm narrowing the list with those, and using the wonderful background info you put together for the "tiebreaker"

ps: It was also a great stroll through "memory lane! As you said, a LOT of great picking!

THIS...from one of the most consistent and prolific pickers on this forum and posters/advisers on this thread. You're a humble man, Outlaw.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane as well, Lugz, especially the Coke machine excavation. Good times!

Another Slow winter day, one moving sale just a few doors down from me, and pending; a couple of late opening estate sales for later today.

I picked up this small wood tool chest and It was almost not for sale! The guy said the stuff on the bench was excluded and his wife overruled him! "you can buy new when we get there!" :bounce::bowdown:

I literally opened one drawer, saw misc "homeowners" tolls and after confirming it was in fact for sale, he thought and asked ":how about $40? "SOLD!" :pimpflash

6 drawers!

I "shopped around" the rest of the house dn garag and only found this magnifier (more tool sot come out later today, and at other sales)

attachment.php

It has a US design patent number of 133366 which is for a "Combined magnifying glass and support therefor" and the application was dated June 6, 1942, and apparently granted Aug 11 1942! I like it!

So what was in the box? Not too impressive, but a couple stand out. Lets see exactly what I saw when I finally opened it up at home, working up from the bottom:

Thanks 3bay!

That magnifier was thrown in free with the box! The box is small, only 10-1/2 X 16-1/2 + 8 deep.

The last drawer, top right:

attachment.php

And clear shots of the "keeper" tools; adjustable is truecraf, (the others were HF, and will go at a yard sale), Channellocks and he nut locking vise gripsa re good, Klein Needle Nose with shrink tubing on the grips, a couple of Xcleite, a VACO #2 PH, and the punch is General.

attachment.php

The jewelers hammer is interesting but needs a decent handle so does the cooper hammer, files are Nicholson,

attachment.php

Nothing fabulous, but the box alone was worth the cost of admission and then some!

Everything else is either junk, scrap or re-supply.

Hey Outlaw! quit trying to stuff the ballot box with last minute great posts!
(JK - strong year, strong finish!)

That tool box is sweet and probably the jewel there... but I just LOVE the look of that magnifier!

Lugz - amazing job as always - I will be reviewing the links and voting tomorrow morning.

For now I am off to the airport to pick up my daughter (Proud wife of Navy Chief) and her family back from 3 years in Yokosuka, Japan.

So I hit and ES in the area and the only thing I wanted was a Huot Drill Index filled with generic HSS drill bits. I got it for $15 (with Mrs No_Garages few items getting tossed in for free).

There were a lot of vintage craftsman stationary tools still there and a REALLY vintage leather belt driven lathe.

Cheers

Jim

Interesting Craftsman power hacksaw - looks pretty rough; do you think it can be made usable? I'm sure you're just itching for something to paint Power Bronze!

I got rained out. Which is bad news for you guys because I'm on my fifth cup of coffee, I'm feeling a little hyped and giddy, I just got finished with my "Picker of the Year" post, and my verbosity has reached new heights!

Stand by....! :)

Lugz, I haven't left the house since I got home from work on Thursday night, and I JUST (2:45 on Saturday) had my first cup of coffee - so guess we're working on opposites today. Got to love the stomach flu . My favorite estate sale company had a 12ga extension cord yesterday which I wanted, but wasn't going to stand in line which would be longer than my current "interval" can support.

GREAT choices and even better presentations on the POY nominations! You've done a great job with the thread this year, and set a high bar for the next host.

Original design and builds were by a company called Covel. you can find ads for them in old magazines like mechanics illustrated and he like

Covel made them for Sears under 108.1501 model number, and later after Atlas bought them as 101.22940 by Atlas.

That looks eminently restorable! I have one with a braze job on one major structural member, The only bad thing there was its slightly crooked...:(

Picked these up at the ReStore today. $8.00 total. Some Proto and some s-k goodness.

I was most excited by the s-k breaker bar and the little wobbly.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane as well, Lugz
You're welcome. That was one of the fringe benefits of reviewing so many posts. Plus I spotted some interesting things (not objects, but themes and interconnections - I will say more in my 'Recap' on NYE) that I didn't the first time around.

Lugz, thanks for making the trophy and polls!
It's fun watching your baby grow up, huh? :)

ALL: while i'm still trying to get time to read all of Lug's amazing POY nominations I managed to pick up a metal cabinet that i hadn't seen before. it's wider than deep so it might work in the woodshop i'm putting together in my parent's garage so my mom can park her car and this cabinet shouldn't be in the way.

anybody go with their mom or grandma or maybe get a pattern to make a suit, dress, or whatever? this cabinet came out of a very old department store and the drawers were full of patterns the seamstresses would buy, cut up and pin to their material to cut and make cool clothes and stuff.

I think I might put something soft in the bottom of the drawers and store my wood planes inside this one, but not certain about that yet. at least it's moved from the seller's house to it's new spot and it wasn't too hard to move even with the drawers left in it.

Outlaw: I love that old wood box. WOW!!

I also just read that Tombelli figured out who might have made it over on the vintage tool box thread.

WELL DONE!!

any gems inside the wood toolbox?
