Fowl: so are you giving your FREE MIXER to your work or bringing it home? looks like a KEEPER TO ME if your kitchen is big enough cause I think you have have 4 boys to feed even though one is away at college.

I gave it to the hospital. Even with 4 boys and all their friends at my house regularly, I have no idea what I would do with a 20 quart mixer that weighs more than I do. It needs to be somewhere for commercial use, and the hospital fits that bill perfectly (Our big mixer actually died last year and they have been making it work with a pro-series kitchen-aid, 6 quart).

It found it's home, so to speak.

Fowl: yep I think you need a VITAMIX and a lot of money to feed 4 boys. that said very nice of you to not only save the blender, but find a great use for it. WELL DONE!!

Tex: pretty sure these cribbage boards are made by a company, but that said I bet these Cribbage boards, tables and benches this company makes are mostly hand made and very well built. these are sitting in a little shop/store about 90 minutes from me and we'll be back there in April if not before and I'll try to get a few more pics. here's the cool bench and a piece of the table and I think there was a trunk there too.

if i live another 50 years maybe i'll find one of these at a garage sale.

Lugz, that X-Acto kit is GREAT! I have my comparable set from the 80s, but it's nowhere near that clean.

Here's the majority of today's pickups, from an estate sale. Was nice to be out with temps in the 40s and no rain (that was last night):
- Crescent 542-7 nippers
- Williams 27 DOE, no <W> (!!!!)
- SK Tools 1/2" x 9/16" DBE
- Feeler gauge that's in vinegar currently
- Craftsman 1/4" drive sockets, both deep and regular. Mostly G code, but a little =V=, a Challenger and a few JCPenney thrown in. The ones in the top left compartment are not keepers.
- Vietnam-era BCGs
- Sunglasses. Thought they might be Ray-Ban, but no such luck. Plastic lenses
- Lid for a squad stove. Looked all over and couldn't find the other part. Outlaw, that may interest you. Somebody else got to the Coleman 425(?) and lantern while I was messing with tools.
- Canteen cup. WW2 construction, but no date...interesting.
- Hoppes cleaning gear
- BluePoint 30' retractable extension cord reel, with a 16ga. cord on it.

Not pictured:
Huot Made in USA Drill Index
Snap-On FU8A 3/8" u-joint with a 1993 date code
Undated GI air mattress. True to form, it won't hold air.
1965 dated GI poncho (background for the overview shot)

Agreed. Hence my word "contraption" for it, and why I said it might be worth separating the antique DP from the motor and stand. I guess "retrofitted" would've been more accurate than "integrated." :) I found a few here on GJ, too. EDIT: A link to one a few years ago here.

We found a few items at an expensive but close to home Berkeley estate sale. I grabbed the Dunlap drawers for my collection and the like new Craftsman Crown corner clamp set was too nice to pass up. The second sale produced a few more treasures including a 3/8 drive Action set that for some reason had a layer of wax in the bottom. Plenty of Craftsman and an antique wrench to add to my wife’s rusty early farm wrenches.

The only problem that I have with the barrister is that there does not seem to be a good way to install lights without drilling (which I cannot bring myself to do). there is also limited room for LEDs when the glass front is open.

Hmmm. Cause for pause as extra light is a necessity down the basement.

Battery LED puck and rechargeable NiMh batteries.

yep! that tag that shows is likely Globe Wernicke - It is missing the bottom section/feet but does have the top. I think $300 is high for that one. But definitely use barrister bookcase as a search term and keep an eye out.

A thin LED strip and a roll of DST (double sided tape).

My Dad has a matching pair of Macey barrister bookcases in his office and I have called "dibs" on them. Unfortunately he made a misguided attempt to faux paint them in a red woodgrain type of pattern when he originally got them. He said they were going for cheap in Boston as a local office redecorated back in the day.

Last weekend I hit a sale with mostly slim pickings. I found an Eagle Model 33f Oiler for $1.00.

I was over at my Dad's helping him with something and he offered me a pair of KLH Model 21 speakers that have been hanging in the basement pool room at my parents house for 35 years. I had them hooked to my stereo in my bedroom 2 stories up via a 4 conductor thermostat wire and a Radio Shack volume controller in the basement. After a quick cleaning I hooked them up to my basement amp and they sound fine - maybe a little lacking in bass compared to modern bookshelf speakers.

Cheers

Jim

Jim, what do the surrounds on the Bass speakers look like? Are they cloth or rotted foam?

If the latter, replacing the foam surrounds is cheap, and easy.

If they are cloth and in good shape, then I would look at the crossover circuit and the electrolytic caps as probable culprits for missing bass. Electrolytic caps age out and those are certainly way past their prime.

Those 21's should blow most any bookshelf speaker away for bass.

Hmmmmm............... those speakers look might familiar .......
I think my grandfather had a pair of those sitting on the living room floor. They were hooked up to his
8-track “Hi-Fi” back in the early eighties. He was so proud of that setup while playing his Big Band records. We’d just paste a smile on our faces and tried really hard not to roll our eyes (where he could see us).

Outlaw:

The surrounds are cloth not foam. My 20 year old son said we are lucky that they we made before foam became common for that function.

He WAS surprised that the grills were held on by Velcro squares stapled to the cabinet and glued to the grill.

I guess I have to pop the "Bass" speaker out of the cabinet to get to the crossover and take a look . . .

In all honesty I am comparing bass production to a pair of Audio Pro EGO414 bookshelf speakers with a more modern ported cabinet design. Please excuse the poor speaker terminology - I'm not an audiophile. I'm not running my speakers on oxygen free copper cables the size of a good pair of jumper cables. :)

Cheers

Jim

Neither am I and I'm more than a little immersed in it...

Yep. pop the big one out, and see if you can get to the crossover, but do pay attention to the polarity of that cap. Once you can get to it look for the value in Mfd and the voltage. you can replace with a higher voltage and it won't matter; the Mfd value as long as it's fairly close, those old caps were like +- 20 to 40%

So I saw an ad on Facebook Marketplace for tools , no pictures. Moving sale so I took a chance and contacted the lady and arranged an appointment only an hour later.

Pic 1 and 2: On the way I stopped at a TOO at a storage center. Picked up the Rubbermaid mop bucket for a friend and Snap On utility knife for $5 total.

Got to the tool sale. The lady's husband who had been a woodworker had passed away, she had a previous sale but only sold the small stuff, still had the Craftsman table saw, radial saw and wood lathe. Didn't need any of that but still lots of smaller items left if you did some digging. After about and hour and a half I had two storage boxes full of items. Paid $40 for everything.

Here's the Sears and Craftsman stuff.

Pic 3: Craftsman sanding disc / face plate for a lathe, Crown logo drill bit case, USA 10" saw blade, Critt Vise in a Sears box and a Craftsman router accessory kit. THE ROUTER ACCESSORY BOX WIL BE IMPORTANT LATER!!!

Pic 4: Craftsman router biscuit jig, rabbet joint jig, strap wrench, Crown logo tap and die booklet, router bushings and a 10MM wrench.

There wasn't a lot of hand tools left at this sale, here's what picked up.

Pic 5 from bottom left: Barcalo Buffalo Ford "multi tool" wrench, Bonney Zenel DOE, Goodwrench USA stubby phillips, Champion "S" wrench, Durochrome speed handle, Craftsman deep socket and Sears Japan 1/2 distributor wrench, Husky DBE, K-D battery terminal pliers, Plomb socket, Powrkraft socket, Stanley cats paw pry bar, from bottom left China knife, various USA drill bits, Craftsman quick clamp and 8mm Helicoil kit.

Pic 6 from bottom left just above pry bar: SK Wayne socket, USA socket, Williams socket, USA flex 1/4D driver, Wilde pliers, battery terminal brushes, Zim puller, good can of WD470, USA hand brush, RotoZip dust collector and a pair of Quick Grips.

And more stuff!

Pic 1 from bottom left: Angle tool, Klein linesman's wrench, spanner wrench for angle grinder, some clear tubes to use water and a garden hose as a level, harmonic balcner puller, compressed air filter and regulator, wood marking gage, bolt and nut plastic size tool and sanding disc and belt cleaning block.

Pic 2: Woodpeckers Corner Jigs, Coleman 530 A47 camp stove, a little bell, Porter Cable jigsaw blades, Kreg pocket screws, table saw angle jig, Ames dial indicator, an aluminum block I will give to a machinist friend and a couple of quarts of oil.

Pic 3: Some closeups of the Coleman 530 stove.

Pic 4: An Oneida "Dust Deputy cyclone separator

Pic 5: The plastic storage bins and a bright orange yard stick.

Pic 6: Remember I mentioned there was something important about the Router Accessory box? While researching the Coleman 530 stove I realized the combination wrench / pot holder handle was missing. BUT I HAD SEEN IT BEFORE! It was in the router box!

Lugnutz, is that on Rt 70 in Toms River?
No. The Rt 70 flea, which is in Lakewood, not Toms River, is closed until March 1st. Good thing about Rt 70 is it's open on Wednesdays and Fridays, in addition to Sat-Sun. Bad thing is you gotta be willing to accept defeat. I've found some great stuff there, but it's a lot of household junk and way more miss than hit in between. If it wasn't on my way to work, I would probably not make the trip, and I hardly ever go there on weekends.

Well, it's been a while since Ive posted since Ive been busy fixing up an old Victorian I purchased early last year. You guys had a banner year last year with all the great stuff that was found. Now that the I finally have some free weekend time again, I was able to stop at a local estate sale yesterday and found something worthwhile. Probably from the 40s, and I MUST find the two missing wrenches.

Very cool shelves! Something like this was what I was looking for for above where my Lap top rests when not in my lap at my chair.

Based on the raised panel wrenches late 40's, but the box appears to be early 40's or even late 30's? I wonder if the PO swapped them on the warranty? :dunno:

dngrmse: my mouth started watering when I saw that DBE case! Cool find!

bluebolt: impressive haul and nice coincidence on finding parts for one item you bought in the box of another that you bought. That usually only happens to me with the boxes I didn't buy.

I'm out with SWMBO this morning for a packed estate sale. Got there an hour and a half early hoping for a low number...Ha! These are gross...a65c298c0157df248ebe2099b6dae448.jpg

BB nice finds! The Stove is a nice find, is the chained on funnel there? If so complete and the canister/pots are not dented to pieces! That wrench is also the handle for the pots!

I like the dust deputy! I wonder if they actually work well? Can you give it a try and report?

BBR: are you going to stick around until your # is called? i've seen some lines to sales around here maybe 50+ deep and standing in the cold and rain and i kept driving. it seems a lot of those good sales have great stuff, but usually marked up so when 1/2 price day shows up things are maybe priced regular, but i'm sure all areas are different.

I still prefer to shop at Craigslist or somebody's place that I know or was referred to cause it's a garage sale with a purpose and i'm not usually bumping into rude people. yep there are a few sales where i'll go cause I like the company running it and some of the sales have some good people that have something good to say, but those are more rare than the norm around me.

ALL: i'm picking up my cement mixer next week cause my seller came down with the flew which is ok by me and i'm picking up a lightweight wheelchair for my mom to leave in her car for the times she takes my dad out. that will keep her from having to carry his heavy wheelchair up and down 13 steps every time they go out even. his new hip and knee replacement didn't work as planned, but he can walk with a walker for short distances.

hope you all have a great day!!

Drives: SWMBO and I went for breakfast, stopped by another sale, and came back an hour after opening to hear them call number 72. I don't normally go to big openings, but this one has a lot of promise.

Sometimes its fun hanging out in the crowd, swapping jokes with folks about how all the good stuff is already gone and everyone with a lower number than you should just give up and go home...:)

bb In my opinion, you did real good! The Oneida Dust Deputy was worth the $40 so you got everything else for free!

BB We will look forward to hearing whether you guys stuck it out to get to your numbers and if you did whether there was anything of note left for you to buy! Good luck!!!

Haha. That brought back some memories. The early morning humor outside the estate sales! The crowd would see a guy walking up with a bag or a cardboard tray and somebody would jokingly yell “No guys with canvas bags allowed” or “No boxes allowed”. Lol. That’s one thing I never did was bring my own bag or box. Maybe once when they said to. I always look for a box or container there if needed.

Now the flea markets, I never used to, but the larger ones I always bring a bag, and have plastic bags on hand at the normal flea.

BB nice finds! The Stove is a nice find, is the chained on funnel there? If so complete and the canister/pots are not dented to pieces! That wrench is also the handle for the pots!

I like the dust deputy! I wonder if they actually work well? Can you give it a try and report?

No funnel unfortunately. Wish I had known about it when I was still there so I could have kept an eye out for it.

Might be a bit before I use the Dust Deputy but it was half full of sawdust when I picked it up, apparently he was using it with his shop vac as a dust collector for his woodworking.

Thanks for the kudo's guys. I did mess up, I left one of the storage containers outside accidently and it started to rain lightly. Of course it was the one with the paper goods in it including a 1992 Craftsman catalog I was going to add to my collection. Soggy mess now. :(

I just won this Snap-on SSDMR1 stubby ratcheting screwdriver off ebay. I've been wanting one for a while to round out my collection of ratcheting screwdrivers. No bits, of course lol

Edit: definitely a blizzard induced cabin fever impulse buy.

Damn nice score on the DBE set and box, dngrmse! I love the old thin beam =V= wrenches. I only need the 11/16 - 13/16 to round out my set. And that sweet box!

Quick cold lap through the flea market with my grandson this morning and stopped at a guy's place who's a bit of a curmudgeon and usually over priced, but always has a bunch of unique stuff. Found a NOS 3/8 RHFT ratchet with the Sears price tag still on it. Dug through an old tool box and in the bottom found a complete set of NOS -V- swivel sockets 3/8-3/4. I was expecting him to ask for $20, but when he said $10 I just paid the man.
