Couple ho-hum things at the Sunday flea this morning. (For those who are wondering why it's not my customary trunk photo, I don't know if it's my thumb or the dang phone but this is the second time this has happened to me now where I didn't take a photo I thought I took.) So this is after clean-up.

I'll be posting more on the no-name wrench set in the DOE thread.

The cross-recess screwdriver is a WWII era Bridgeport Phillips #2 (GMTK spec).

Been going to auctions on a regular basis but haven't posted finds for a while. Yesterday was an estate sale. Picked up some wrenches, Thorsen 1/2 socket set, Park tool box, rolling stool and some hammers. Also bought an aluminum frame workmate for $.50.

John, did you mean to include the decimal point? As in Fifty CENTS?

Yes, that's fifty cents. Towards the end of the day and the WM was with some other undesirable items. I offered 50 cents and no one else bid. Got quite a few things for 50 cents to 1 dollar.

Got out to an estate sale today and struck out on tools. But I met a nice fellow, planning to retire South soon and surrounding himself and his wife with some great vintage stuff. A few minutes before I got there, 'Billy the Kidd' snagged this Delta grinder with stand, guards, and quench cups for $75.

I told him I'd post it here and invited him to drop by. Hope he drops by and says hi! I'm sure he'd love more info on the grinder (year,etc). I think with a nice cleaning it will look (even more) amazing!

Looking at the Proto catalog, it appears I have sets J4990-SMA (metric 7 pc) and J4900-7C (SAE 7 pc) vs combination set J4902A (13 pc) as it omits the 9mm. These sets are $57 and $62 on Zoro!!! Not bad for 30.

Around here has been pretty dead, but a buddy texted me about this on CL. Couldn't find a listing in the catalog, which makes sense when I saw the date. Full of stuff, some useful, some junk. Will inventory later. Figure I have almost half of what I paid in extras to sell, so ended up well within what I like to spend on these.

Thanks 3bay! It has been a good year so far for picking. Been crossing a lot of items off the list.

I'm glad to add these Proto hex bit sockets, I sold off the last 3/8 SAE set I had (SK) and I'd been looking to add another ever since (d'oh!). I use hex bit sockets frequently at work, I have a Wright 1/2 dr SAE set that I use a lot. I've added a Proto 3/4 as the Wright set tops out at 5/8, and a Wright long 3/8. I had no metric hex bit sockets at all, and I like this metric set doesn't skip any sizes.

Those are some cool finds too. I love those old porcelain coated signs but you sure don't see many for affordable prices. I wish he Goodyear signs were older but they are still cool.

I had a decent morning at the flea market. I picked up a handful of plomb wrenches, a plomb 5449, a chunky bon-e-con 3/8 ratchet and a 1/4” Hinsdale, a pair of vacuum grip duckbills, and a pair of 6” adjustable for the collection.

Had the fiancee with me at the flea for a change. Managed to find some tools in between looking at jewelry, clothing, and plants. Most of the time when I stop to browse she takes off down the row,lol.

-Pair of hex drive Hinsdale speeders. Had to buy the sockets after finding them at a different booth.
-Keen Kutter wood chisel
-Old Forge offset screwdriver
-Williams long tappet
-Mac 3/8 flex ratchet. Ugly as could be but works great.

Been a few months since a good sale and was pleased to pick up these items over the weekend. Got the Columbian 504 vise, Nicholson file with wood handle, and the Craftsman tools on the stool (stool not part of sale). The extensions (including a flexible 1/4” one), 1/2” & 1/4” breaker bars, and 1/4” ratchet are all V date code.

Heel spur I think that dril is a two speed, you swapo the crank for a "direct drive" adn the other is to gear it down.

Story from before SWMBO and I were married: We also often separated and agreed To meet at the end of each row. Once we did so and I got to the end and walked up behind her looking at stuff, but not actively. I took her by the hand led her to the next row and was soon looking at tolls and we separated.

I get to the end and she is nowhere in sight. after waiting a bit I walk slowly back and she's nowhere to be found, I walked that row again, and then back again... (This was long before Cell phones...) I looked over at the end of the other row and THERE SHE IS!

I go over and asked where she got off to. She says she's been waiting for the longest time...

"Wait; I took you by the hand and WALKED you into the next row!"

"No you didn't!"

"Yes I di... Uhoh!... I must have led a complete stranger over there...

She starts laughing. "And she didn't scream or say anything?"

"Nope; just followed me over and I stopped to look at stuff... "


So that begs the question did that other woman and whoever she was with have a similar conversation?

Shout-out to any GGers near Athol MA: I plucked these No85(?) dividers from a conglomerate of bucket rust last fall. I wish I had a good “before” photo. They spent the winter soaking in a homebrew of mineral spirits and light oil. Finally got them cleaned off and operational today.
New, these are in the $200-300 range, but these are NOT new, ha ha. I still like them, and they’ll look good with my vintage saws and stuff.

Bomber, I got a pretty good deal on the wrenches. Saw one the other day but man was the green grip in ugly shape. Just dawned on me these were purchased on St. Patty’s Day. Luck of the Irish! I’m not, but Happy St Patty’s day to those who are.

Must be a plomb ratchet weekend!

I went to one estate sale yesterday. I got there at 8am and it was supposed to open at 8, but everyone was still outside the door. Turns out the lady running the sale hasn't shown up! So I double checked the ad and found a phone number to text the lady and she said she's 10 minutes away. I told everyone what the lady said and they go, "Did you ask which door do we go through?"

Hmm no I didn't. Doh!

Well she finally showed up at 8:35am and off went in to the back door. There was a lot of old toys so I kind of cherry picked stuff for my kids and then found the tool box. Not much to pick but I got the plumb 1/2" drive ratchet, Craftsman offset screwdriver, 10mm bon e con wrench, and a 14" Utica water pump pliers. Oh and a Craftsman drill index box full of drill bits.

I attached mine and my daughter's first lite Brite picture!

Whoops! I didn't mention the non-tool items, that's a kaleidoscope you see outlaw. Along with a binder with card games for road trips or camping. A universal remote new in the package, big glue stick which turns out to be a dud, and a lite Brite with unused paper pattern.

Nice! I'm in Mass on the western side of Athol- thus my soft spot for Millers Falls/GTD/Starrett. As fun as it is to find vintage unused tools there is something really satisfying about bringing a tool back from a lump of orangy sludge

Got out to a single sale this weekend, which is fine by me since I really should be working on my "I bought this to flip and pay for the other stuff but now I kinda want to keep it" pile....

Most everything was in a poorly lit basement and will need some TLC, but the price was right so....

A Craftsman hammer, a smaller ball peen, a handful of Craftsman V sockets, two pretty rusty machinists clamps, one big rusty clamp and a little rusty Barcalo wrench. Also in the rusty but interesting pile was a ladle and this axe/adze/pick thing- I need to clean it up and look for a maker. Got a couple of plastic splitting wedges and a leather axe sheath from the same box.

One fairly clean 15/16 Blackhawk wrench, a set of Starrett punches and an Enderes punch/chisel set. The little micrometer is brand new but just marked Poland. Also got a Ryobi sander because I was throwing things in my bucket...

Last pile is a bunch of new but dirty Rubbermade garage organizers and a brand new (China) plastic Coleman flashlight. I wasn't even sure what was in the box but it was sealed, said Coleman and I'm on GJ so.... don't I have to buy it?

The flashlight was also funny to me because I gave away one of my penlights to a friend who also showed up at this sale- the two of us were bumbling about in the dark trying to share one light while trying not to share the few things of value in the basement. I eventually went back out to the car and got my backup light for him- pickers have to (within reason) stick together!

I was in the shower when the wife texted me that she found a garage sale with a matco tool cart. When I actually found about about it I raced through the house and tore @$$ across town to get there....just in time to see the guy wheeling it down the driveway into his truck. 2 minutes too late. I was beside myself. After he drove off I looked at the trinkets on the rest of the yard sale. That's when I asked about the tools that were in the cart? "Oh they're inside, wanna take a look?" I did a lot better than a simple roll cart. I got everything in the pics, and about 20 lbs of no-name harbor freight/Chinese tools. the second to last pic is all snap-on, Mac, and Matco.

A friend stopped by on Saturday while i was gone and left a note on the door and two buckets of tools on the front porch. The pile in the pic is the bulk of it, there was quite a bit of junk that went straight in the scrap pale and some for the resale box. There are some jems including a BP 6" a few mac drivers. I will post more individual pics when I get it sorted out better.

I scored an old "Swingspout" oil filler at an estate sale. it is 14" tall, from the base to the tip of the spout. The spout pivots down in order to pour the oil. It was a reluctant buy at $10, but after doing a little research, I think it may be somewhat rare. I think I might actually use it for topping off oil in my car. Does anyone have an idea of when this could have been produced?

While on my work trip, I was able to swing by an auto swap in Puyallup WA, finding the following:

So, a 1MT bit, Plomb, Proto, and Williams sockets, Craftsman BE ratchet, flying V flex ratchet, =V= breaker bar, and Heritage socket spinner box. Oh, and a Proto ratcheting adaptor:

That needs some work internally, but no way I was going to pass that up.

Nowhere near as cool as that, but I had a nice little find today. Went to a sale this afternoon that advertised tools. It was at a little storage locker. There were a few little tool boxes and bins full of sockets and wrenches. Here's what I dug out.
