At the location where picked up cast iron drilling items, came across a pair of 21" tall oil derricks, with one still having original tag on bottom.

Tag read as being made by Oil Originals Inc 1981 Tulsa OK T.M.

Picked at sale today.
6 bins=$1, $8 spent. nobody wanted plastic, but ok 4 me.

Underline c dp without period motor. $17.50.

Makita 2708 w/new 60 tooth thin kerf carbide blade plus router attached. $30. Its the 4th 1 i have, 2 in Massachusetts and 2 in indiana. I still have the 1st 1 bought 36 years ago. Cracked up plastic base but works fine.

Underline c fender dollies, 1 missing handle of some style i think. Can't find any info on it. $10

Good haul catfishdan, nice p-arrow truck wrench? williams?

On the Craftsman body and fender tools you have the molding dolly, turret top dolly and offset attachment, you are missing the 16" hex lever. Page 40 in the Craftsman 1942 Hand Tools Catalog. Nice finds! https://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/19...BIHjPP2U-mMWBSQKb41NS4VdlfPegJC9QdByrY95A0mWA

Edit, the blue paint remnants on the offset attachment is likely original.

Lots of cool stuff this weekend Guys! I spend the we/ Camping and Within a mile of camp were several hundred elk! I even saw 2 newborns this AM!

I did pick up (literally picked up) a bit over 20 lbs of mixed reloadble brass and bought two Lanterns (pics later) was given one stove! (actually I was required to take one stove with one of the lanterns... )

I also sold the BSA tent I got an an estate sale to one of the group, and bought 4 gallons of "Recycled" Coleman fuel from him (He has a great source at the county Haz mat drop off...) I came out $10 ahead on that!

BTW LS, you **** on the Plierwrench! I have 2 or tree and NONE of the full set of jaws!

Hit the garage sales yesterday, picking up a few things:

SK pat. pend ratchet, two SK and a P&C wrench, Craftsman ratchet, Hyde scraper, Long C torpedo level, Channellock needle nose, Herbrand extension, Crescent 6", Cornwell adaptor, SK Wayne socket, Williams extension, and a Thorsen T-bar. Around 10 bucks for all that. But the best thing was this:

Central Tools 0-4" micrometer. Checks out perfectly with the three test bars. $20.
Also, I got a call from the guy who runs the machine shop at my wifes work, offering me this for $20:
Craftsman Heritage logo power hacksaw. Might need some work, but should turn out nice.

If you don't mind, how much did the peavey set you back? I've seen a couple at flea markets but always $100+ even with handle missing or completely rotted out.

I had to work on Saturday, so I missed most of the sales. The weather was nice so I decided to head out to see what I could clean up from the sales finishing up.

The first stop I picked up the Proto screwdriver and the pouch of Craftsman -v- SAE ignition wrenches. Also included in the pouch were a Tomohawk wrench and 1/4" Craftsman extension. I paid $2 for everything.

The second sale was a dud, but the third sale was nice. It was a yard sale and they had loose sockets and wrenches laying all over the driveway. I went through and picked out the gold. I found two stubby metric Husky wrenches, a K-D Tools 3/8 swivel, a 1/4" Snap-on driver, and a set of 8 1/4" SAE Snap-on sockets on a rail. I paid $6 for everything.

Still in super busy mode around here. And its been raining almost every day. I finally get a weekend off and a little break in the rain!

Sat: There are a couple of E sales going that sound promising! I stop at the flea first, and to my surprise, hardly anyone is there... I find nothing and move on to sell number 1 (Man Cave Sale) guy had owned a Tarp and Awning Company. the few things that I was interested in were super high priced. I look the shop over, and one my last round look at the very back table.. Behind a stack of metal box erector sets and kids science labs, I see a laptop. It's marked $50. I open it and its on and its a very nice Acer Chrome book. Its 25% off day. that's a good deal.... Take it up to the checkout and ask what bottom dollar is. Lady beside her says $25! Sold! the only thing I bought in this big shop.... I have been using it all day it's a great little laptop!

Sunday: hit the flea and the regulars are all there. Find a few things. Some are the twins to what you guys have been finding. After looking the place over, I find it on my last pass... the Mammoth Vise. Its HUGE!!!! I got it for $5~!! ok well, maybe not huge... 1" jaws. A Tiny jewlers vise. Smallest in my collections now!

Laptop:
Acer 15" chrome book

Hammer:
Security cast iron hammer, crate tool ?

Pliers:
Bernard with side cutters

Extension:
SnapOn 3/8 got for a $1

Adjustable wrenches:
Bonney 6"
Kilborn Bishop 6"

Wrenches:
Duro Chrome DOE Offset
P&C DOE little crispy with pebble inset panels.
Proto combo not broached

Vise:
1" jaws clamp on jewlers vise
Herters Fly rod vise

I spent most of yesterday on a axle bearing change job on the project van.
Several setbacks, and having the wrong seals sent just made my day - NOT!. Plus trying to squeeze in my two trips for yardsales and some more work on the camping box I'm building sucked up more than the daylight hours...

While its early before I go get parts (I hope...) and finish the job and then spend some time with SWMBO for Bday stuff, I finally had a chance to really LOOK at some of the finds the past couple of days others have made. Some Big WOW's there.

RT, the Clamp on Vise is an interesting variant! how tight is the ball swivel and can it be locked down?

Outlaw, yes it can be locked down pretty tight with the little bar on the left and there is a screw in the center of the plate. Haven't got to mess with it much been super buy. Just posted it in the vise thread with a few more pics.

Reedonkulous! :shocking: I missed this yesterday, until BB pointed it out. I wonder if the pouch is original. I remember a complete set shown here on GJ somewhere that included a sellers' tips pamphlet. One of the tips was to wait on the side of the road and wait for someone to break down!! But I don't recall what the set came in, a pouch or box or what. Terrific find.
Thanks, Lugz, BlueBomber, Outlaw.
Here’s a link to Joseph Eifel’s 2May1916 patent, which is forged in to the older pair, though they really do look more like the illustrations on the 1932 patent. This eBay seller’s listing has a lot of information, well worth a look-through. Seems the pouch IS original! I’ve had another plierwrench with only one jaw (no pouch), so I took a family photo. Both are the 8-1/2” length. The one at bottom is the one I’ve had, and I believe is older. It weighs 1-1/4lb, has more detailed/complex grips, and no stamped directions, but some forged-in manufacturing details. The new guy is about 1lb, less defined grips, and stamped directions and manufacturing details. All the extra jaws except what seems to be a spreader, are duplicates, so I now have two nearly-complete sets.
Here’s a link to a pdf of directions.
I cleaned up the set of alphabet punches, and read on the side of the wood holder: “PROGRESS / Steel Letters / Warranted / Alfred Field & Co N.”
AF&Co I see had bases in Birmingham and Sheffield, but also imported to New York, so probably by that route came to my part of the world. Set is missing B, C, E, T, W. The A is short, there are multiple Os, which may actually be 0s, and there is a period, an ampersand, a 3 and a 4. Really there’s no way to know whether the unmarked stamps are original to the holder.

Not much this week but grabbed a couple boxes. The Union box is in really good shape actually. Barely any rust and it’s still really clean.

Forgot to get pictures of the writing on it. I’ll post pictures of that later. If I remember correctly it may have had military markings on the side. Not positive though.

Despite my wife telling me 'it's fine' I wanted to get my Doctors opinion. He says its perfectly functional.

Yes, I bought it just so I could post it on here.

I almost forgot: the Brass I picked up at the range Sat and Sunday (>13/1/2 lbs Sat, and > 7 Sunday so well over 20 lbs of reloadable brass!

attachment.php

and the two lanterns I bought:

A 1935 Coleman 242A (needs a pump, but original globe) and a 30's Sear's "Junior" made by Prentiss Wabers. Both need work but the prices reflected that.

Not a garage sale find, just 'FREE' stuff at the local recycler/dump.

Nice vintage Stanley Router, Roto-Split tool, 4 ZAG Workforce parts boxes and bunch of electrical odds and ends, beaucoup Bryant rocker switches and receptacles and covers, screwdrivers, tape dispensers, channel locks, nice big blue tool box and more.

Can't go wrong for Free!

You guys have been snagging some cool stuff! Fairly slim pickins' for me lately as I've been working a lot but I have picked up some odds and ends.

An unmarked push through rat that I'm combing AA to ID (help?) and three gadgets for the weirdo drawer. The small one is marked Boos Tool Corp KCMO Patent Pending, below that is BMC MFG No. 9 Binghampton NY USA and last is Collision's Wrench, Collision MFG Company, Bruning, NEBR

IMG_3856.jpg

A nice Crown era NIB drill index along with a couple of unbranded aluminum ones

IMG_3859.jpg

Early 50's Craftsman aviation snips that cut better than the **** "new" ones I have in my user box

IMG_3865.jpg

And my best find since last post, a brass drop light. I answered a CL ad for some fluorescent lights (that I bought but don't make for a very interesting pic). I saw this light sitting under a bunch of boxes. Woman said her father worked in the ship yards during and after the war and that this particular light was used when he was working on laying the keel of the USS United States, a carrier that was never finished. She ended up selling it to me for 20 bucks. Brass body and cage, wood handled. I'm cleaning this up, replacing the cord and giving it to my son-in-law who is an active duty Navy Chief.

Made by Simonsen, Type II mechanics tool case. Air Force, 50s. Will have MIL-STD and contract number on a tag.

Thanks Lugz!

Mine is missing the tag, but has writing or a imprint on the side. I’m not by the box at this moment, but will get a picture tonight.

Thanks again for the great info!

Oh, I might get put through the ringer for this one, but I passed up a Williams box (same price, $25) for the Union.... :wtf: The Williams box was in rough shape and looked like it had been repainted and then abused, then left to rust for a while. The union box actually feels very sturdy and well made as well as being in really good shape. Most Union boxes I run across seem cheaply made, but not this one. I’m happy with the Union and am going to turn it into a truck box or a work box.

JoCo,
The ratchet is Duro/Indestro missing the selector.

Thanks Lugz!

Captain,
That Union box is in great shape. It is exactly like the wartime Union boxes that housed GMTKs and many other wartime toolsets. Congratulations.

So as it was ANOTHER Bank Holiday yesterday (love April/May) I was able to get to a Monday night auction that starts at 5:30pm (when i usually leave work), surprisingly quiet though and gave me an opportunity on the tools early on.

Won 3 tool Lots comprising of 5 mixed boxes for a total of £29!

I NEVER NEED TO BUY CLAMPS AGAIN!!!! This was the tool Lot I went for.
> 8 x Monster F-Clamps, no markings found but old, Biggest one has 9" deep jaws and can open up to 20" !!!!! (Thats a rusty Stanley 4.5 plane for sizing)
> 2 x Carver "welding clamps", last seller I saw with these wanted £8 a piece.

Hand tools
> Unmarked hatchet (to be cleaned up)
> 1" King **** DOE spanner
> 5 x Hammer heads, only the claw hammer marked "Whitmore Brand"
> MORRILL Saw setting tool - USA made
>LUFFKIN RULE - USA
>Makita 9045N finishing sander - needs work.
>Top right is a weird old plane that is a steel 'U' channel with a wooden core?? no markings beyond a previous owner.

Augers everywhere! plus two drills. 30 bits in total all Marples/Stanley/UK made.

So that's about 60 individual tools that I'm keeping for £29...basically £0.50p a tool

After sorting though the tools this pile went to the Charity shop at the Local Tip this morning
DSC_1454.jpg
> Couple of VERY rusty planes (already have enough resto project planes)
> Bosch and a Black&Decker jigsaws
> Bizzare "Precision" Mitre block
..plus lots of odds and sods...I could have faffed about and sold them myself but I'd rather a charity makes the £3-10 per big item than me sitting on them for 6 months.

Then comes the MISTAKE of the auction, if I'd just stopped at the tools and the later items!:shocking:...this Lot came up and I thought it'd just shoot off but it hung at an opening book bid of £25....after a short bidding war between me and the book I "won" at £40...

At first glance it looks like a UK Royal Navy Dress sword...BUT...
1-Blade should be straight not curved + engraved....(D'oh)
2-Guard is broken at the hinge...(******)
3-Blade has no makers mark ...(Ah Fudge)

If I'd originally planned to buy it then I would have researched it on Google earlier and noticed Issue1.
Issues 2, 3 & 4 were missed because it was hung up behind the podium and what I thought was a makers mark was just a coincidental rust pitted patch.
Initially I was pretty gutted but having slept on it I've decided to make the best of a bad deal and try to "restore/blend" its failings into a nice looking thing, e.g. file and blend back the broken guard, really sand back and polish the blade, etc.

Next up is a present for my sisters Birthday and the 2nd Lot that I went to the auction for:

> Schuco Micro Racer 1046 - VW Beetle - Wind up car from Germany (She's mad into beetles and had one as her first car)

Finally, you'll be glad to read, something every englishman should own...

Pulled this 3/8dr ratchet out of the trans fluid it's been soaking in for the last few weeks. Got it at a garage or estate sale about a month or so ago. To reverse direction yo have to take the drive piece out of the ratchet head and reverse sides. No manf name, just the part number D-5167 SS.

Got tired of laying around, so I answered an ad for a tool box for sale for $30. Looked like a kennedy. Went, offered $20 and the guy accepted it. Then as I’m walking out, he mentions he has another box of sockets for $25. I offered $20 and he accepted it.

$40 and a bunch of cool tools AND a Kennedy... The Kennedy works awesome too. Better than my dads! :shocking:

I hear you Outlaw and I know I'll pick up more, but I've bought 20 clamps in 3 days... A touch of shock on realising that fact!

Also the fact that I rent a terrace house and my "workspace" is a small basement means I'm going to have to be creative with storage.... Again

Think I'll spend the next couple of days cleaning up and organising the hauls... And the rest of my work space.

That is a unique piece. I am curious as well to see who the OEM is.
Is the hex 3/8" drive as well?

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

And my best find since last post, a brass drop light. I answered a CL ad for some fluorescent lights (that I bought but don't make for a very interesting pic). I saw this light sitting under a bunch of boxes. Woman said her father worked in the ship yards during and after the war and that this particular light was used when he was working on laying the keel of the USS United States, a carrier that was never finished. She ended up selling it to me for 20 bucks. Brass body and cage, wood handled. I'm cleaning this up, replacing the cord and giving it to my son-in-law who is an active duty Navy Chief.

Now that is a cool lamp and provenance!
