Lugz, that $1/each in 1886 is $27.19/each today, per http://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1886?amount=1. Not bad compared to a Leatherman or Gerber multi-tool!

I had a good day at the flea yesterday:
Lodge No. 6 Dutch oven
Williams 3/4" drive sockets: 1-5/8", 2" and 2-1/4"
Mustang 3/8" drive sockets: (still in evaporust)
Old school punch (no markings visible)

Edit: The little Dutch oven is the real "score" here, as it has long been out of production and is quite sought after among cast iron collectors, which I learned about after asking in an iron group. The responses were "buy it!" and "$*** oven right there" even before I had pictures. It's also my first significant flea score where the online value really makes me debate flipping it.

How about cocobolo wood? Have any scraps of that laying around? :)

Look what I just happened upon when paging through an 1886 Bonney Vise & Tool catalog for a different purpose just now!

Very cool! That's exactly what I have.

Does the one Stu has look like Cocobolo? I thought it was a very dark wood. Maybe it lightens as it ages. ??

Your catalog ad made me go out to the shop to look at the similar multi-tool I picked up a few years ago. A previous owner painted it red. It looks like my attachments don't quite seem to match the ad but the wood looks like Cocobolo to me. I wonder if this one is the same as the catalog ad? I love Bonney tools so I'm definitely hoping it is. I wonder when they stopped making/selling this tool and also if they made it with Cocobolo for the full period is was part of their catalog. Hmmm...inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks for sharing Lugz!

Stu, nice find!

Couple things. First off, I don't know if cocobolo is naturally dark or not, but it is the wood standardly used for putty knife handles in the 30s and 40s, and they are dark. Stained maybe? I don't know. Secondly, there areca few of these awl/multi tools in the Bonney catalog. Different makers/patents on similar idea. I picked the Fray because it was spitting image for Stu's find. They aren't Bonney tools. They were being sold by Bonney.

Ah ok. :-( Guess I shouldn't have posted similiar question just now to the Bonney thread. Thanks Lugz.

Well the car boot was a bust this morning, they were queuing to park and queuing on foot for 300metres to get in. After being jostled in the line for 10 minutes with no forward movement I called shenanigans and left.

Decided to stop at a couple of Antique stores on the way back. Finally "pulled the trigger" on a chair in one that I have been looking at for the last 6 months.

It's a tiny Sewing/Nursing chair with a swivel out draw on one side. It's gonna need a lot of work and re-upholstering.
It stands 28" high with a 16"x16" seat that is just 12" off the deck.
Since it's been sat in the store a while I talked a little off.

The book was an impulse buy and something to leaf through whilst listening to the cricket. 20190519_174239-COLLAGE.jpg

Finally got back to Jakes flea today. No major purchases for me today. My limited funds for the day kept me walking past a Reed 4-1/2” vise marked $65 and many other beauteous things. I could not pass up a few of them, so here’s the day’s take.

I hit four sales that listed tools, along with a couple TOO's. As usual, those listing tools are thinking like I am thinking, so nothing there, but I did find a couple things at the first and last stops:

Starrett dividers, Proto 1/2 socket case, Safariland holster and a small oiler bottle. $5 for all that. In between those stops was the best of the day, but it didn't start until later. Mostly new woodworking stuff of the Home Depot level, but I noticed this sitting on the ground:

Pop open some drawers, and it is stuffed to the gills. And in the bottom drawer?

I asked how much for the whole box, and we settled on $25. I need another Kennedy type box like I need another hole in my head, but there is too much in there to pass by.

Only a few things followed me home today, but by weight, I did okay. :lol_hitti

The 1in drive Snap-On Torqometer is massive! With the heavy steel case, it about wore my arm off to carry it around. Torqometer came with a couple of Williams adaptors.
Dorman branded leatherette pouch with allen keys, Charles Parker #2 vise wrench, 8-1/2" double offset screwdriver, Bell System B file card.

Glad to see you guys are getting somewhere with sales!

ON: So that chair is a child's chair? at 12" i'd think so...

Another cold rainy day and no sales worth bothering with, so an "organizing day" like part of yesterday was.

I DID stop to snipe an auction for an old KampKooK AGM 2 burner stove I've had my eye on for a week! this one is much smaller than the usual 2 burner stoves which was what I was after. That it is unmolested and already in operational order is a bonus!

Here's the whole 2 pages of awls/multi-tools, Mike. The one under the Fray's No. 1 is a Fray's No. 2. Same thing, but larger, and with different bits. The Buell's patent is for the swinging end cap. It is a steel cap that swivels back and forth instead of the wooden end twisting off. That one is made of Rosewood. It looks like yours is also a Fray's if I had to guess.

WrenchGuy Sometimes life is just that straightforward... Why do we seem to make it so difficult sometimes????

Outlaw I was in two minds if it is a "child seat" but these style of small corner chairs are quite common in the UK (although without swivel draw) as housing and bedrooms are quite small in UK Victorian/Edwardian terrace housing.

I'm 6'4" and *cough-cough* Kilos.... And It's REALLY comfortable, even without its squab cushion.

...the rest of the story from yesterday's 200+ socket score:

Cleaning up the the trays, I turned them over to dry in the sun on the driveway, and there, in an inconspicuous place on the larger tray, was a price tag- $30. It was the same as the tag on the smaller tote tray, no doubt about it being legit, but I hadn't seen it, and neither did the 3 estate sale people at checkout. I agonized over it -- their mistake? my mistake? and finally decided I had to go back today.
I thought there were three logicaliy supportable solutions; I could pay them $5, $15 or $30.

I sheepishly explained what had happened and wallet in hand, asked the lady at checkout (who was the owner of the estate sale company) how much I owed. It turns out there was a fourth solution: She said, "That's ok, don't worry about it." I protested that I had to owe something, but she just repeated what she had said and thanked me for telling her about it. I was stunned.
I paid for the Penens breaker bar and went on about my day.

The breaker was a nice find since yesterday's haul included about a half dozen Penens 1/2" drive sockets.

The huge 1-11/16" socket, my biggest, was part of yesterday's batch, but didn't make the pix. Japanese, TrueCraft, with a 3/4 - 1/2 drive adaptor

Saturday turned out to be a decent garage sale day. Found this really great set of old-school Blue-Point double box offsets! Along with a partial set of combo wrenches, couple of obstruction 1/2dr wrenches and a older Snap-on breaker bar & extension.

Sunday was my first venture to Jake's Flea Market to set up a couple of small tables. Got there about 4:30am and managed to get a decent spot in row-6. Before the sun comes up the place has a bunch of fast-walkers with flashlights looking to get a jump on the late sleepers. The flashlight of choice by those guys is the harbor freight blue multi LED one. Busy all day! Nice time, friendly people. Was by myself and hardest thing was not drinking any coffee and no time for a bathroom break until I packed up around noon. Probably pack up some more stuff and head back next Sunday!

Hey, WrenchGuy,
What's that intriguing bit of curved cast iron showing at the top of your pix? If it's a bit of a C-clamp, it's size XXXXLarge+!

Hit up a flea market in town with my dad between the thunderstorms and found a few items.

-Tektronix oscilloscope probes and correct right-angle cable for the portable 'scope I bought last week.
-Lenox rat tail file with handle
-Find of the day: banged up ball pain hammer. I thought it was Bonney. It is dual marked "H. Cheney / Hammer Co. / Tool Steel" and "Pierce Arrow"! Looks to be from a tool kit c. 1901-1917. Too bad someone beat it to within an inch of its life. I will repair the handle split with glue and perhaps some wire whipping.

Total damage: $21.

Those two wrenches in the bottom right corner look like torque adapters for head bolts on tractors or diesel engines.

Went to a small flea market at a local antique store today and picked up a wood handled screwdriver and saw for $2.

Next stop was a yard sale that I missed yesterday. Bought a Westward 3 drawer toolbox for $15. A box of 46 wrenches for $20 with several long C and other Craftsman, Bonney, Evercraft, Gedore, Pittsburgh and several others. Spent $20 on a nice Park toolbox with the tray, Plano tackle box, 1/2" socket rail with a mix of Snap On and SK, couple of files, pliers, rings snips, screwdrivers and a Craftsman router bit box with half a dozen bits.99aa298f3913889cb81c3dcc10250709.jpg4cff6b6c766269a8cf0bae7ab6e2d5dd.jpgf5925b74c711007813a28a4c582c043e.jpgdcb71a5ba98b18582d3e8d0348987db4.jpgff850cc47c12a31358a3c22b70d66398.jpg4a9b2caeb40e32edc1a70ab1a319eab4.jpg

Got some tools this weekend as well:
HK Porter 2000 series 18"
5 Sears Made in Japan metric wrenches
5 Master Mechanic metric
Utica small cutters
West Germany pliers
2 hammers (both are the ones I needed)
Taiwan ratchet and socket set in a metal box, metric (+ extra few pieces)
Bunch of screwdrivers - mostly master mechanic
2 drills - Porter Cable, 12" 1/4 and 3/8
1 Stanley and 2 Caterpillar measurement tapes
Die Hard Battery Charger (seems to work)
Some other random stuff in the picture + small box of supplies (nails, screws, etc)
and
Thor Manual Drill

Brought it home, replaced the fork and IT WORKS! The chuck was rusty, but with clear Hartford CONN and 1B on 2 sides. Could not see anything else. tried to rotate it with gently pressing 220 grid sandpaper on it - cleaned up within 30s (several slight presses). One side says Hartford Conn, Made in USA; another is extremely faint but with the J at the begining and Huck at the end and spacing for JACKOBSCHUCK, another 1B and untranslatable (but spacing consistent with CAP.O-1/4 on top and THD. 3/8-24 on the bottom). I wonder why location and 1B survived well while JACOBS CHUCK sign is almost gone... May be was not stamped as deep or the rust got the best of it... Not sure if it would have made a difference, but next time I need to try brass wirebrush first, even if I do not see any markings on the tool...)

Price for all
... 47 cents...

So there was a miniscule Flea Market in town today with a very poor vendor showing. I found a pair of inlaid Wiss Shears marked $12 - the vendor asked for $10 - Sold!

It was also the last weekend of bulk pickup in the next town over. I grabbed a box of misc. tools and a pair of older jumper cables. The reason I grabbed the box of tools was the 5/8" Snap On combination wrench in the bottom.

The key finds are :

2 Snap on combination wrenches
12" Crestalloy Crescent wrench
8" Bahco Crescent / Lobster wrench
Craftsman needle nose vise grip knock offs
Craftsman Linemans pliers
Krauter dikes

I also stumbled on an almost complete Delta-Milwaukee bands saw at the curb. It has some hacked wiring and a broken table mount. My goal is to fix the wiring and table mount and put it into service.

Cheers

Jim

WOW!
Now we need the rest of the story. It looks too heavy-duty to be a kid's toy. Is it perhaps for ice harvesting? Log hauling in winter?

I can't find the g-sale post from years back i made about them. They're cast iron... only the 5th set i seen in 25 years looking for turn century horse drawn bob/working sled stuff. Only only and only google fu anything mentions mining and quarry work cast iron bobs/sledges. I'm not smart enough to try patent searching without any printed info found on the runners. They r extremely hell4stout and quarry blocks transportation makes sense using ice roads. Log haulers used wide gauge bobs with very long and wide wrought iron clad runners. These above were 32" when i found them.

heres another set(different castings) i had, collector had 2 have b4 i could refurb them.

On my way to a concert last night and I found a garage sale going on at 7pm. I stopped by and had some decent finds.

Huge pair of Matco slip joint pliers.
Matco SP80 puller
MAC 1/2" hard handle ratchet
a nice little pair of Knipex Alligator pliers that are also adorned with the Matco logo
Snap-on bit driver (missing the cap)
Vice grips with threads for a puller
a neat little Snap-on recessed flat head socket for carburetor adjustments (TM83A)
Snap-on 3/32 hex socket
MAC flat head screwdriver socket
Snap-on 1/2" drive 1" impact socket
THE BIGGEST SNAP-ON PUNCH I HAVE EVER SEEN
And an Armstrong Eliminator pass thru socket set

47832641672_62a523016e_c.jpg

47884573741_d26d346a86_c.jpg

Prices weren't marked on anything, so I made a pile and crossed my fingers. I asked the guy how much for everything and he paused for a second and said "Well, that set (Armstrong) is nearly brand new, so how about $30 for everything?"

I couldn't pull my wallet out fast enough.

Friday started out disappointing. The early opening sale was a dud, and I had a choice of two sales the next hour. I picked the wrong one, as it was a dud, too. I got to the other sale about 20 minutes after the start time, and noticed a fellow walking out with a flying V Craftsman ratchet, so I knew it had been picked over already. I dug through a pile of junk and came up with the following, shown in Photo 1:

Plomb WF-40 speeder
Plomb WF-8 ratchet (my first 5/32 drive)
Plomb 5668 3/4" hinge handle
New Britian NS-70-US 1/2" T-handle
Cup Brush
Indestro 3209 1/2" short speeder
Blackhawk 49983 short 1/2" extension with revolving grip
Blackhawk 69994 3/4" extension
Long-C Craftsman 1/2" torque wrench
Grease fittings - 137 assorted styles, many I use

Bundle price by seller was $15.00.
