2019 Garage Sale Thread

I had one of my best flea weekends in a while. Highlights include a Williams 1733 (3/4" x 1") DOE still with the original gray paint, 1944 dated Bluepoint 9/16" x 5/8" offset DBE, a Bonney Zenel DOE, 1944 dated Snap-on 11" extension, 723-sized Hexite DOE, an almost complete set of Spintite nut drivers, Firestone DOE.

I stopped by the every Sunday flee market at the VFW this morning and snatched these four items for a fin. I know, not a mega score but it made me smile. Gotta be worth 3 or 4 times what I paid anyway and I didn't already have three out of the four.

Can anybody tell me the significance of the vv on one and the V and inverted V on the other? Google is only showing me single V's.

3bay, do some research in the "large caliber rounds" I'd hate for that yo be unexplored ordinance, (which has a nasty habit of exploding...)

There is an article somewhere on the vinatge garage journal board on the topic. I remember reading how many people perfered the V inverted V wrenches.

The RH one has been fired and has been lying out for a long time judging from the corrosion. The other one hasn't and I'd like to see the nose of it better. They look to be 20 mm projectiles. Inert stuff is usually painted blue, but one never knows.

My point is "unexploded ordinance": is just that; fired, and failed to explode; that simply means the ignition failed. and explosives often become more unstable as they age. Many people have been killed or maimed by WWII ordnance from old battlefields. not to mention many other places in the world. (Southeast Asia for instance)

Both look spent. The black one says 30MM T328 ZEL-2-16 55. Supposedly a practice round. 3-1/2” long. There are pics online in a brass shell casing. Top is mashed Pete.

The larger one, idk. What do you guys make of it? Has a hole drilled in bottom. Flat or lopped off top. Has a 3/4” wide brass band around it that goes high low high low all the way around. Not smooth like the other. 4-1/2” long. Pretty pitted and rough whatever it may be.

Farmers plow shells up every spring and leave them on the roadside for EOD teams to pick up. They're taken to a site on the channel coast where batches are exploded.

Last weekend I posted about a Snap On box.

Finally got to going through it after driving around with it for a week. At first I was second guessing because the box is rough and damaged, but now after seeing what’s in there and finding a few surprises, I’m content with what I got for $35.

Yeah, it's a little Snap On puller pad, CJ91-2A, the slide hammer hook is a CJ66-19.

I see the little puller point in your 5th picture, looks like a decent score nteh box.

No tools for me, but I did come across this cool old single mantle KampLite RL-2 lantern.
Needs cleaned up a bit.

Picked up this Kennedy 520 last week off CL. The top is a little shifted forward to where the box has a overbite with the lid. But looking at it, at least to my untrained eye, a bent frame/outside of the box isn't obvious. You can see that overhanging lid in pic #3. What's the best way to go about correcting that?

It's missing the key. Called Kennedy and they said it's an early '80s box and they don't have keys for these. Anyone know if the usual suspects for replacement keys can do these older Kennedy boxes? The lock is K-130. Who was the guy on ebay who was selling Waterloo replacement keys at really reasonable prices?

There is also a 50 ton mine they can't find from the Messine ridge offensive. It didn't go of and is still underground somewhere in Flanders fields.

Tex, that is a pretty basic lock. If a locksmith can't make a key for it, I am sure they would have a replacement.

Also got the random pile of sockets which are a mix of no brand Japan made, Craftsman USA, and Thorsen USA sockets and extensions with a Japan ratchet. Also a Craftsman 3/8" thumbwheel ratchet 43781 and a full set of Craftsman V stamped SAE ignition wrenches. Pretty stoked about this haul.

Nice finds guys! while aGM hasn't gone quite as high as Coleman sometimes can in most cases, those both look good! Should clean up fine!

Question are the globes marked Coleman? or something else? (Wondering if the original globes survived)

Thanks Outlaw. Mine has a Coleman globe. I haven’t gotten it to light yet. I think it needs to be torn down and cleaned out. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t take too much work.

Also, I hate to make three posts in a row... but this sign at a church about 3 miles from my flea market caught my eye this morning, and captured my attention enough to make me turn around, go back, and snap this photo.

It's the strangest danged thing I have ever read on a church sign and begs a lot of questions!

I have never seen a dog for sale at a flea market, first of all, and I can't even imagine that. While there are some desperate, wrong-headed people in the world, I would immediately suspect it was not theirs, in which case, and despite the advice and best intentions of the church pastor, it might actually be a good thing to go ahead and buy it! That way you are either saving a dog that someone else clearly doesn't want, or recovering a dog that wasn't theirs.

You can see how this occupied my mind and might continue to do so throughout the day.

Weird sign. Right?! Something had to prompt it and I am wondering if it happened at my flea market.

The Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days flea market about 60 miles from has "Animal Alley", "with everything from purebred puppies to llamas and pot-bellied pigs"

Here are a few curiosities that followed me home inside a box purchase.
A Vlcheck valve spring tool Cleveland Ohio. (anyone know what motors these help in?)
Craftsman 1/4 deep metric set -G- series in metal tray
Craftsman 3/8 shallow metric set in a "socket saver" It works like a Hoosier cabinet slide up. Not a great idea. Door is hard to operate & if not positioned correctly, a socket will fall out accidentally.
And from the land of 2 headed calves & snakes...

HAHA. I've been using that die, always with the snake eye up, as a combination size context and "identification card" for years, and you are the FIRST GJ'er to ever say anything to me about it. Made my day.

I did find two goodies at the Triple Early Bird flea market this morning...

A wartime Plomb 3/8-inch drive WF-23 speeder and a NOS Blue-Point thread file. The packaging is stuck and I want to snap some better photos and take some care and time removing it, but Reiff & Nestor is without a doubt the OEM. I would bet my next paycheck on it.

Billings, Barcalo,Ward lakeside, Upland, Yamaha wrenches
The rest will find new owners eventually

I have a few valve spring compressors of that type. IIRC, they are for flat head engines where you get at the valves from the side of the engine, vice on the top of the heads.
