I think it's people scanning the yellow tag barcode instead of the item's upc.

That’s what I’m saying. Where’s the disconnect? and perhaps you nailed it.

My teen came with me as daddy “hacked HD’s computer.” What she can’t understand, nor can I, is why SCO wouldn’t work, why you’d be denied, etc.

Reading all of the HD threads would help you understand, the answers are there as this is discussed on a yearly basis. So then one can understand why it happens vs "thinking" it is a yellow tag noob mistake . Hint, you think all HD stores operate the same? If so, wouldn't all stores have the same deals? Thankfully HD itself has many "disconnects" which allows many of us to get great deals.

What I was questioning was why doesn’t the EPOS (Electronic Point Of Sale) ring items out as intended? So if their price check app has items priced at a penny, etc., then why isn’t it taking to the EPOS, to ensure the items, whether yellow tag or sku, ring out as priced on their price checker. Obviously they are not tied together seamlessly, possibly by design. Leaving price open for interpretation by sales personnel seems like a recipe for disaster, or at the very least a headache for all involved.

Where do you guys find pennied stuff? Is it for Pros only? I never seem to see those deals at our local HDs.

The word from the penny masters is you just call home depot penny phone line and tell them have all the penny items on a pallet ready for you to pickup and load it up for you. While you never get out of your truck, while sipping your caffe latte.

Nope. Some stores have it automatically call the attendant in self checkout. There's ONE store locally that does it. I got stopped with a Husky pouch that I scanned the barcode on the item itself, retail tag was missing. Scanned other items and then scanned that and it locked me out from doing anything further. I haven't been able to get any good deal from that store. The attendant basically acted like I was trying to steal, she paged the manager on duty before even coming up to me.

I got the same pouches from three different stores in the area, no trouble at all.

The POS does ring the items out as intended. The price check app (not the in aisle price checkers - I have no idea what they use) doesn’t use the same data and occasionally has different prices than the register and SCO.

I guess I'm confused. Not every item in the app I was viewing was a penny. Last week, before I knew the app existed, I bought a $200 Ryobi 3 tool combo for $130. It was in their clearance isle, with a lot of other items. I've never seen that combo less than $170. Yesterday, while viewing the app, I saw the same combo for $130, because they still had one left.

So, if I bought that $130 combo yesterday, was I stealing? If I wasn't stealing, then why would it be stealing if I paid 1 penny? Said another way, at what price paid, is a $200 item considered stealing? You see what I mean? It's a hard argument for HD to make that I was stealing.

Taken a bit further, HD stores have sold items clearly "worth" more, for just 1 penny. That, I believe, sets a precedent. HD does sell items of greater valuer for a penny. Therefore, a customer could easily believe it reasonable and true that the grill they are wheeling out was, in fact, 1 penny.

Full disclosure, I could careless if I ever get an item for a penny. Grabbing a $15 utility knife for $3 would be nice. A $150 drill for $45. That's all good with me. Heck, I just paid $37 for a new M12 3/8" drill on Ebay.

First, I wasn't leaving the store, for all she knew at that point I had tried to buy an item that had rung up as a penny...I've seen people do that at other stores, buying a clearance item and it rings up as a penny. Cashier confused, customer confused. Manager comes over and says "It's your lucky day." "Sell it to him" it was on a grill at a store about 30 mins from the store I'm talking about.

Second, it does this automatically in the system. Corporate has written off the item, the store is supposed to pull these items. It rings up as a penny so Corporate can track which store is doing their jobs of pulling the items, corporate doesn't care. It's a clearance price for a customer, nothing more. As long as you pay that penny, it's a legitimate sale; it's NOT a pricing error and you're not doing anything to manipulate the price.

Inventory count has absolutely nothing to due with penny status. Nothing at all.
How is it not stealing, you ask? You go to the register, scan your items, pay the asking price for your items, and leave the store. Takes quite a bit of mental gymnastics to call that stealing. Even the company doesn’t consider it stealing.
HD is the only company I know that will catch you “stealing” (trying to buy a penny item), stop you, remove it from the transaction, then give you the item for free. Wow. That’s some kinda criminal justice reform.

Not clearance, but a good price. Two weeks ago, I paid $238 for this same Husky bench, but in black. I think $238 was a sale price, so $198 is even better. If you can tolerate the white, this is decent bench. My shop is almost entirely on wheels and this might become my general purpose bench, or I might mount my Dremel drill press, small grinder, etc. to it. Just know that there are no edges to mount a vise to, other than the back of the bench.



It has two drawers and adjustable height top. Easy assmebly. I added other wheels I had instead, but might swap back to the original wheels.

drwheels... what made it little easy was the fact they were big... cause harder for them to hide it...lol. I just wish it wasn't so hard to find smaller items.

Example: I found this Digital thermostat listed for $199.00 but their hand held inventory scanner shows "Zero" in store for purchase. Kinda doesn't make sense. To me that should be a penny item but guess I have wait for them to knock price down.

If i could only get my hands on that store scanner.

I understand about the skewing, but these items are placed on ADHOC shelving. So they’re not regularly store stock items. Even Ryobi items seem to be mostly online, as opposed to instore.

I'm not sure if this has been posted recently, but the small Husky tool cart is now priced at $69.00 at the Ankeny, IA location. Although I didn't really need one, I went ahead and picked one up at that price. The casters are horrible, and the metal isn't the thickest, but for the price the cabinet isn't bad overall.
