Of note to me were:

-Nicholson USA files for $1.50/each
-Stanley pocket level. $2.50
- burly Rogue hoe/rake $12 (retails for ~$85)
-Reed pipe vise $10
-Crosscut and bow saws including the little Coleman $5/ea
-Stack-on box full of random tools for $35
-Vessel impact driver $12
- knee/elbow/wrist pads $1.50/set
- tiny Akro-mills parts organizer $4
- a gas spout with an additional cap attached to the nozzle $1.00
-gun trigger lock $7
- large NEW Crockpot for $12 (will use for Evaporusting)
- architect’s triangular scale $0.50

All in all useful stuff at a decent value. I’ll go through the toolbox in a bit...in addition to lots of junk I saw some SK, Gedore, Fuller, Diamalloy, etc.

Morning flea haul. Things have quieted down out there. Less snow birds and less vendors. One good thing, I went through in less time and still found a few treasures. The sun was unforgiving and then termites began swarming! A sure sign it was time to split.

Found a not so pretty but working condition Blackhawk Freewheeling ratchet for $1!

Some unusual stuff today. Other finds include: Williams “Special” stamped 1/2” offset box wrench, Collins claw hammer marked Legitimus and Hartford, Billmont Guthard ratchet, infamous G&G 3/8” ratchet by Wright, an International Harvester wrench with a hook end, Mac locking adjustable wrench, Bridgeport Hardware short dbe, a Klein & Sons hammer head, Wards Lakeside screwdriver and Craftsman Vanadium Blue flat head.

Sockets included two old Walden short pancake stack sockets, a New Britain made knurl ring unmarked that is factory deformed, a Snap On, Wright, a Proto or Plomb (rusty), Craftsman knurl band extension, some Westline, and some unmarked 1/4” indestro production.

Nice finds! I'm a sucker for the Akro-Mills organizers. That Rogue garden tool is interesting, but I don't know why anyone would pay $85 for that!

Well done Blue! What is that crimper/riveter tool with the yellow handles? That's really nice.

Roper Whitney No. 8 punch, will put a 1/4" hole in 1/4" steel plate! Only $5! I got lucky and while going through a drawer in another building I found the additional punches too!

BB, Nice that your punch has the bench stand! I have several and so far, none... Icing on the cake is the other punch sets!

Nada for me today. One yard sale, and the new/local FM - seller count more than doubled, but struck out.

Ding! Ding! Ding! That was what also drew me to it. Wasn't sure if it was a cut down handle, or a ratcheting torque adapter (you can just make out the female end). Either way, it was interesting enough for me to try and win. The sockets, btw, are a mix of Williams, Indestro, old Apex, etc. Only 3 were non-US.

Ended up being a Plomb WF-38-T. Recent sales show it is fairly pricey. The other ratchets were an Indestro Super with 3/8F drive plug, and a Giller (NB 43 clone). Other lot I got had a BMC pliers, and a Bonnet 1/4" ratchet.

Last week managed to buy and flip a Par-X set from the same local auction. Helps to know what small details to look for.IMG_20210327_153806_01.jpegIMG_20210327_153814_01.jpeg

I picked up this Craftsman 5195 machinists vise today off CL. This is my first 519x vise. Heavy vise for a little 3.5"er and it's in great condition. The only blemish beyond the bad paint job and the now "steel wool cleanup" by the seller is the handle has a slight bend in it. It ought to clean up very well. Based on it's date stamp this vise will be 66 years old next month. I've been waiting for a few years to find one of these. I got this one because the first person to contact him offered $15 less than his $75 asking price. He didn't appreciate that $60 offer. :bounce:

I know some of you will appreciate this and feel my pain. The vise had been painted black when the seller bought it in CA some 20-25 years ago. I asked him whether there was a metal badge on the side under the paint. He said yes. Great! Right? Well, the next day he sends me a pic of part of the badge under the paint after he hit it with steel wool! Arghhh!!!! I told him please don't use the steel wool anymore. I hope I can remember and tell folks in the future "don't do THIS before I see the vise please!". :wtf: See pics #2 & #3.

Went to an estate sale this weekend and picked up quite a bit but haven't had time to take pictures yet.

Also we were throwing out this Behemoth at work. A 42" 1" Drive Wright Railroad Ratchet. Couldn't pass up the freebie. It won't fit in the ratchet box though so I will have to figure out some sort of arrangement.IMG_20210328_180556256.jpegIMG_20210328_180614438.jpeg

I haven't been hitting many sales lately but did manage to check out one Saturday--not much volume but some nice quality. A Lisle 3/8" impact driver set--very little use, a nice set of Craftsman =V= DOE's--some appearing unused and a Craftsman puller. Total was $20.

Yes Mike, I can’t seem to pass up those Akro organizers either...for that one day when I get organized!

The Rogue tools are heavy duty trail building tools popular with trail crews and the mountain biking community. This ain’t your grandmama’s garden hoe! The shaft is as thick as a maul/axe handle.

Heck yeah, that’s a bargain. And a great find on the punches The silly punches for my #5 Jr are about 80% the cost of a new punch

That WF-38-T is a you **** for sure. I just sold mine on Ebay a couple weeks ago. I listed it for $200 and it sold in less than 24 hours.

Went to my first sale of the year on Saturday. Lots of tools, and I came home with some pretty good stuff. I got lucky on the wilton vise. As I was making my "to purchase" pile another guy brings the vise out from an old shed and asks the guy hosting the sale how much for the old vise? The guy says $30 bucks. I ran over and was admiring the sweet deal he just got on a wilton bullet vise! As I am standing in line to pay, the guy who bought the vise comes up to me and says I can buy it off him for $40 if I really want it. Needless to say it ended up coming home with me!

I believe that I have previously expressed just how much I dislike the trend to open estate sales on Thursdays. I am forced to take off time from work to be able to shop most of the sales in my area.

Anyway, Thursday…I snagged a Columbian Autocrat 415, a set of Smith and Wesson hallow ground parallel tip screwdrivers (sans the .40 flat tip). A good handful of wooden handle screw drivers, some Stanley. One marked Taiwan, and another marked MAC. A Ford branded wrench and a small ball peen hammer. Everything totaled about $100.00, so no awesome deals but that’s fairly good for the metro Atlanta area.

It amazes me that hollow-ground screwdrivers were not more widely used. The small additional cost, compared to "chisel" formed screwdrivers is a worthwhile investment. I can't understand why more general, automotive, and aviation mechanics didn't purchase them. It seems like only gunsmiths felt they were necessary.

It wasn't until replaceable-tip screwdrivers became widespread that hollow-ground flat bits became mainstream.

Total agreement. I hate Thursday sales and its always the best ones that start on Thursday that get cleaned out by the time I get there Friday/Saturday.

Tapered tips are stamped and done. Hollow ground are literally ground after forging. That increases the cost significantly. Most people just don't care enough to pay double or more for the improvement. I agree, I wish they were more available. I'd be happy to pay the price.

I understand why they cost more, but how does the hollow ground process make a better screwdriver?

Better fit, Mike. There's zero slop or wobble between the blade and the fastener slot. Beveled tips reduce the surface area contact between the tip and the screw slot. Most screwdrivers you find with altered tips have been ground for that reason.

I use them for anything delicate, and keep a set of Grace drivers handy. But I am often working on screws that have already been abused and so I use my Protos just as often.

Picked this chainsaw from the dumpster yesterday. Needs a muffler, bar and chain and a bucket full of TLC, but I have plenty of that. Pretty happy with this.PXL_20210329_174029439.jpgPXL_20210329_174021098.jpgPXL_20210329_174015790.jpg
