This morning MrsLS & I picked up a recently-widowered friend and made our first trek of the season to Blue Ridge Flea near Saylorsburg PA. Not much caught my eye, but $3 brought home a soft face mallet, HoldEze-type Bridgeport screwdriver, three sockets, and a handful of hammer wedges.

After catching up and a pleasant diner breakfast, MrsLS & I dropped our friend off and headed south to Quakertown Flea, where in a fit of “rain probable tomorrow” spending ($19), I picked up an uninterrupted 8-19mm set of metric Triangle Herbrand DOEs, NIB glasscutter, two Bonney 3/8dr sockets, 1/4” Streamline combo, two punches, C’man auger file, and a Plomb WF hinge handle (unfortunately modified - 9/32dr to a rough 1/4dr).

Nice garage sale early this morning. Picked up a Craftsman USA 1/2dr 6pt metric set and a semi-deep 3/8dr SAE set. Also a set of Cman locking extensions and a 1/2dr ratchet. The Gearwrench metric pass-through socket set was neat. Also this huge Stanley clamp-on vise that I thought had some rust on the inside but it turned out to be wood.

That makes sense. Prevents them from slipping overboard or through grates to fall on people's heads.

Must be another style of lock. The key comes out of this one.

First sale I managed ONE tool adn three jugs of SG and Roundup; the driver is a Vlchek, AND a Philips -Even though munged a bit, I bought it a It's the first Vlchek driver I've EVER seen.

There were several TOOs, that produced, which made up for the planned stops that didn't...

The elbow pipe with the two valves is from an old gas wall mount lamp. The 8 blade knife is marked PROTO and the little box cutter is Craftsman. Neither have "China" on them. A 1" Adjustable Clamp, and the Ash Tone Block was Free! "I just want it to have a good home..." -It has a cool sound so a Drum Circle candidate)

A Zylophone! (technically not; its "Bells", but it is a real instrument and good for Drum Circle. (SWMBO really seems enamored) for $20 I wan't saying no...

the BP is a Lakeside, that was one vendor the rest from a second: A Mercedes Bentz DOE, Tiny No 46 Uitica dykes An Odd Proto ignition wrench, Another Adjustable Clamp, the little tape is a SS Walsco, and the Odd Key?

Hazat made or makes tools for several EU car companies as well as under their own name. if for a car company, they will mark the Car company name.

I hit an estate sale Friday morning. For $24.00 I got all the items in Photo #1:

Taper guide for a table saw.
Diamond hones (1 coarse and 3 fine grit)
M. Klein & Sons cable clamp
Mitchell's Abrasive Cord, No. 52 (.055 diameter by 150 grit) I've never seen abrasive cord before, and this one seems to be unused. The loose end is stapled to the coil.
3 Black & Decker Gripmate clamps for a Workmate. I now have 5, but no inserts for the holes in the Workmate.
Black & Decker Powershot stapler. This is really nice compared to my Arrow T-50 staplers!
?? Some sort of extractor? Slightly too large for 1/2" pipe threads. Maybe to hammer onto unthreaded 1/2" pipe?

This morning I went to another estate sale that looked to be disappointing. It turned out to have a few interesting items, at a cost of $4.00:

On the way to work I stopped at a sale around 1 mile off highway
It was picked pretty well. The owner told me that prior to opening 21 guys lined up and took the numbers (well, not having much hope I went in as people sometimes leave small things)
Among everything I found Xcellite 3/8 driver, P4 driver (1/8), Lincoln Greasegun (Logo looks really cool), Snap On T-bar, PROTO socket, Ingestroll rand soscket and Easco Socket. I decided to leave two Nickelson files which were appearing not too good for me for 1$ each (may be I was too picky though) and got a deal for 2$. Shed behind the house was empty. On the way out I asked about the garage.
I was allowed in with the owner and found SK Wayne box with bunch of staff in it. I was asked for $10. Did not even try to ask for less. Took it as I saw some good staff like SK sockets, Bonney ratchet, SO ratchet and breaker bar. Could not wait till I got home from work to see what else is there and if everything is working! It seems to be working! Just need to clean and lubricate the sockets (started doing it on all that I can take apart - they work much better as majority I see are dry for some reason...)

On the way back stopped at a yard sale. Some very rusty tools. Picket the ones shown here - agreed on 1$.
Left behind - 3 Bonney shield wrenches (USS standard sizes), several Billings and spencer wrenches, very rusty Duro set (not sure if I should feel guilty about picking a single Drag Link socket out of it - I hope this sells, but it was rusty and I did not feel like saving it all)

The S is Sheffield. I have the same unit but with original Sheffield scales.

Outlaw, I saw that 3D printer link. Thanks for the drawing. I don't know anyone with a printer, but will be asking around. It is odd that the clamps show up, but not the bushings.

Does the code stamped on the lock and key help date it or is that just to match the two together? It's GE 2954.

that is a blind code that can be looked up to determine the cuts of the key.

I drove WAY farther than I thought I would for a barn sale, where I picked up a few tools for a few bucks. I ended up buying a can and a tote of misc. tools, and have already disposed of the dross. This is what's left:

A vice grip thing; Williams, Bog, Craftsman, Giller, Indestro Sockets; Craftsman, Cresent extensions; P&C and an unmarked New Britain ratchet, Proto pin punch, Ranger(?) USA pocket knife, turnscrew that needs a new ferrul, Craftsman T-handle, Vlcheck and Penens wrenches, and an SK Wayne 12mm combo. $4

I then hit my favorite used tool dealer, netting this Blue Point ignition wrench set for $10


After that, I made it over to an estate sale that showed a few tools in the pics, where I made off with the following for $9:

Artisan (SK) ratchet, Wards Master (Wright) ratchet, Proto Penens, Williams sockets, and a partial Duro socket set.

Old Radar- nice looking Challenger pouch set.

Outlaw- nice score on the bells. They're fun, I had a blast playing around with those before. At a music store auction I grabbed four sets of those bells. They came in a backpack kit. Figured I'd keep one and sell the rest.
I sold the first set on day one at the flea market. It seemed like the buyer was a dealer or reseller from somewhere but I didnt know him. Day two I was back there and put another set on the table. The same guy walked by, glanced at the bells in disbelief, and kept on walking. It was really funny.

I dragged my other half out antiquing today. She hates it,lol. It was more “needed to get out of the house” for sanity’s sake. I had to disguise the antiquing part as a destination lunch and a nice long ride in the country (not that she was interested in that part). Things have been bad this week. Her sister is faced with a marriage crisis, a beloved uncle of hers was in the hospital dying, my aunt and uncle have been recovering from this lousy virus and pulled themselves together enough to leave Florida in their RV, and I’ve been focused on a solution to a plumbing crisis at the house.

We made a day of it. A great lunch stop,then antique stores, drinks at a cool tavern, roadside Mexican corn, country roads with some photos by the orange orchard, checked out a small market for some groceries, and lastly a taco cart for some quesadillas.

Came back just in time to get the news of her uncle’s passing. I feel so bad for the family, it was before his time from an age perspective but he had health complications. He was a great guy as far as I knew him. Sadly, the list gets smaller as he’s the third person to die before our wedding this summer.


Back to fun things, while antique store shopping, she scored some earrings (from me) and a nice cup. I couldn’t let her be up on me 2-0 but I was striking out. The last place I dipped into had a selection of tools and a sale going on. I scored a deal on an ugly but nice working 1/2” Plomb ratchet and some ugly Pexto bent nose pliers.

Making up for lost time, we hit three sales today. The first looked promising but prices were higher than I was interested in paying. I ended up with two GMTK correct screwdrivers and a Powr-Kraft combo and only slightly overpaid. The second sale had quite a bit of variety and prices were more in line with reality. By the time we got to the third sale all I could find was a sanding belt although my wife found a couple of items. The screwdriver branded Matchless looked like a Stanley. Has anyone run across one of those?

I've had several generations of air and water cooled VWs and a cigar box full of Hazet (and other German brands) wrenches that came with the cars without VW written on any of them. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a VW marked tool. And some more in the box that that I've picked up here or there that do say BMW or Mercedes. But, my old POS BMW came with tools that didn't say BMW. So, sometimes the car manufacturer's name is stamped, and sometimes it isn't.

LS Thank you for posting and identifying those hammer wedges. I found some of those a couple of years ago in a toolbox. Didn't know what they were but hung onto them. Hearing they're wedges makes total sense. Glad I hung onto them.

Vise grips are 7LW’s, a V-jaw. Odd looking I know. Saw them on a YouTube toolbox tour and the guy loved them. They’re like new so I thought I’d pick them up.

Since we're posting kitchen tools, here's my NOS in-the-box with original paperwork Rival/Magic Hostess food slicer from a recent estate sale on half-off Sunday. I also picked up a Black and Decker professional hedge trimmer for $4, so I no longer have to borrow my neighbor's. (No pic). The carving fork (and a couple more) was also a buck.

Yes, I have a Matchless EHD machinists' screwdriver. It's a Bridgeport brand.

One of the oldest original giants in the automotive tools industry, along with Mossberg and Blackhawk. Known much more for drive tools than end wrenches. That's actually a very uncommon find. We have a Walden-Worcester thread on the vintage board. See Index in Sticky.

Vise grips are 7LW’s, a V-jaw. Odd looking I know. Saw them on a YouTube toolbox tour and the guy loved them. They’re like new so I thought I’d pick them up.

I bought a 3-piece set of the LW V-jaw Vise Grips when they first came out. I use them all the time. They are great for gripping round stock, and believe it or not, they grip hex fasteners very well! I use them to hold a bolt head or nut when I can't reach both sides.
