Not a garage sale find, but instead a fb marketplace free curb pickup. Got two vintage metal cabinets and this was in one of them. Paying it forward and put it on fb for free, after selling the cabinets for $100. Lots of carb parts!

What is this "carb" of which you speak?

I masked up (mostly against pollen, now) and headed south with MrsLS to Jake’s Flea. It was very well-attended. Of course, I did not find what I was “looking for” - ha-ha - but $42 brought home an assortment of items.
I wasn’t quite in the groove, or I would not have paid $3 for the horse twitch someone made from a solitairy 2-man saw handle. Otherwise satisfied with the loot. If I’d passed on it, I might have been more tempted by the $7 SK barn roof box (w leather handle) I saw in the same row.
I thought I had spent my last dollar, so I skipped the last row, but back home, a $5 bill slipped out of my pocket. Oh no! What wonders did I pass up?

LS, it sounds like you use the same system as my wife uses when she goes to the casino. She takes only the amount of cash she is willing to lose, and when it is gone, she comes home.

What is the marking on the 4-way lug wrench?

Well, I definitely like the ease of posting photos compared to the last iteration.

Only one sale worth mentioning this week. All pics are as found--everything looks 87% better after a Simple Green scrub down.
Dove into a small box of rusty machinist tools and came out with:

Starrett Speed Indicator (needs a new tip) and two inside calipers;
Brown & Sharpe 320 Sliding Hook Rule (logo as seen in the 1952 catalog);
Lufkin 511 Depth Gage--missing rule--and outside calipers
Dunlap 4029 Protractor

Picked up the large S-K Wayne box and then started finding S-K sockets scattered all over the garage
S-K and S-K Wayne 42470 1/2" ratchets

Newer CM 1/4" ratchet and #4 Phillips driver

Three strips of soft lead--no idea why...

A single wheel from DICO Products--not sure what the fibers are made of.

And finally, a small water dish to keep in the garage for my wannabe garage dog.

$15 total.

So Mrs_No_Garage and I made the run to the Golden Nugget FM near Lambertville NJ for the first time this season. It was a small-medium vendor presence for a nice Sunday in May.

I saw and pointed out a smaller than normal wooden machinist chest to the Mrs. She has been looking for one since I spruced up an old National probably 5-7 years ago. We got a price and then decided to walk the rest of the FM and come back. It was still there 30 minutes later so we agreed to the price and bought it for $50.00

It's REALLY grubby. No key, the cover is missing, the handle is deteriorating, a bunch of the drawer runners have fallen off the case (they are in the top tote) , one drawer is a bit broken (again - the broken piece is in the top tote). Other than that it's showroom condition . . .

I missed the company logo on the bottom drawer because it's so dirty. It's a Pilliod - I have never heard of them.

I started cleaning a drawer before I remembered to take pictures - so that explains why the one drawer looks SO different. I have a LOT of scrubbing, scraping, finishing and felting before this will be ready to display on her dresser, holding her jewelry.

Cheers

Jim

Is the other Bonney? What is the "S" wrench with the one scalloped head? And is that another Gruber?

I hoped Bonney, but there is no other mark than a “1”. I also hoped the S-wrench could be one of those ancient Bonney alphabet wrenches - it has an “E” on one side. The other side has “Z338C” on it. I thought either the cheeks or the “cravats” at each end might have something, but no.
EDIT - added pics. I can’t shake the feeling I’ve seen those cravats before. Thought of the K-in-a-diamond Kraeuter, but not quite the same.

The Gruber is a 2; it joins my 00.

That’s pretty much what I do. If an extraordinary item falls from the sky, I hit the cash machine - but I’ve only done that twice.

Lug wrench is a Bonney No2553 U.S.A. It will join a CV-marked MADE IN U.S.A. one I’ve got somewhere.
EDIT - Interesting changes in every detail of construction (including overall size) between the two eras.
LS, are the Mini Channellocks Lugz mentioned Plvmb?

424 Channellock Meadville PA Pat. 1950362. These were by themselves, but they were sold by Bonney (and probably others) with ignition sets of the period.
EDIT - I see them (marked B424) in the 1941 Bonney catalog. Earlier catalogs show a different model (2572 made by Utica, I believe), and B35 in later catalogs.

Had a couple sales I wanted to check out yesterday but didn't have time. One sale today, 30 minutes away. Think I did okay for 13 bucks!
Schlage passage lever, several padlocks - no key, no problem!
Craftsman, Klein, Vaco and Bridgeport drivers
Nicholson file, Crescent adjustable, another Upson Hold Ezee for my Channellock display
The red-clear Craftsman is interesting. It says 1/4 nutdriver PN 41971 but looks like this on the end:

Thank you BB & Outlaw. I was surprised when I got a reply back that it was still available and hadn't been long gone. I was looking online and it looks like there are a lot of upgrade kits & instructions on how to get this saw more modernized with dust collection and ball bearing guides. It matches perfectly with the 12" Cman King Seeley drill press thats waiting for its turn for a restoration I picked up weeks ago.

Todays Swapmeet finds, fuel oil filter, nickel plated threaded radiator cap, Old No.7 CI wrench and unusual to me a Toyang 10" power wrench, interesting trademark/logo. Internet says its self adjusting and not real old. COO unknown. Looks to be a close quarter wrench. $7 spent.

I just got back home from a pretty good estate sale. There were plenty of old "homeowner grade" tools. I picked the ones in the picture below:
1. Puller of some type; has a Ford logo
2. A good-sized ball pein hammer.
3. Alemite grease gun.
4. Oiler---no brand found yet (but I haven't cleaned it, obviously).
5. Set of Oxwall mini combo wrenches, still in original packaging.
6. 6 inch piece of railroad track to make a mini-anvil.
7. Combo square.

All for $10.

The real prize of the sale, though, was something I didn't buy. They had a Craftsman 150 drill press (floor model) with Vari-Slow attachment and a crank-operated table lift. It looked to be in pristine condition and hardly used. They were asking $35. I thought long and hard, but I don't need it, don't have the room for it, and don't like the idea of loading it up, just to flip it. There was another guy looking at it, and I advised him to buy it. He didn't need it either, but he was on the phone with a friend of his when I left.

There were several old 50's era Craftsman power tools (lathe, table saw, belt sander), but none of those were in very good condition. All in all, a pretty good day.
Is there a non-like button I can use on members who turn away from a varislow/ crank table drill press ? :) I get why you walked but seriously, you could have made a bit of money just by buying those and posting on the craftsman drill press thead... last known table crank on that thread sold for $400...just saying.

^^You **** on that chest!! Those are really fun to restore.

I only found three things this weekend. A like new Stihl MS210 CE $50, about 250' of 3/4" poly rope for $10, and $10 worth of scrap black Delrin plastic from a sign shop going out of business.P1090237.jpgP1090238.jpg

Ok, here goes...1st post on the new format with photos. I know alot of folks are a bit adverse to the changes but after seeing how much better the photos that are posted are able to be viewed and zoomed in on, I am a fan of the new format... It will take a bit to get used to but is certainly better than the old forum style...

I hit one sale on saturday on my way home...I picked the whole garage and came home with these...I also found a non pictured snap on ratcheting orange screw driver but as I walked up to pay , one of the guys running the sale says- "hey I was looking for that"...super irritating when you lose a good find because someone isn't organized. I did use this little snafu to negotiate all my finds down to $4 :)

Craftsman 4oz ball pein- marked professional tools on the handle - I believe this is heritage era ?
craftsman 1/4 drive quick release ratchet with oil port
craftsman 1/4 drive extension
proto mfd era 3/8 ratchet

I love the Golden Nugget, Jim, small, old school, and quaint (and for the non-locals, right on the Delaware river very close to Washington's Crossing), but it's a haul for me, and consequently, I don't get there too often. Congrats on the Pilliod.
The Gruber is a 2; it joins my 00.
Nice! One more and it's a partial set. I've yet to see any others except ours.
Is there a non-like button I can use
Snerk.

Whats the opposite of a "you ****" award? lol I wouldn't have left that spot. I would have dragged it with me to the checkout if I had to.

I haven't posted in the garage sale threads in quite a while, but I picked these up last weekend at an estate sale. Everything was half price, so I got the 30" heritage box for $37.50 and $17.50 for the smaller box. Couldn't pass it up! From what I can tell the heritage box is either brand new, or was hardly used at all. There aren't any signs of wear inside, and there's a wood or particle board insert on the bottom, that I'm guessing was part of the packaging. Anyone able to identify the year of manufacture on the heritage box? I couldn't find any stamp marks.

You may get better answers on the Heritage thread. It is indeed immaculate. A carpenter’s box, with a slotted block under the lid for handsaw storage. The hammered paint points to very late Heritage era, right up against Crowntop era. 1960s, I would think. I had a 1990s one that I bought new, never used and eventually sold, and I don’t think it was any cleaner!

Wow, I feel like a stranger in here! I’m still kicking but not doing much garage saling. I did however find this gem on Craigslist and I’ll be saving it from the scrappers. 6A89D81D-EB72-4E2B-8DAB-2330D0831D66.jpeg6F34CF05-71C8-48E8-AADD-455A158566D4.jpegED4FB04E-E667-4B37-95EE-BFCF9E2765A0.jpeg328BA0CE-2773-4BBE-A649-478EF762B3B9.jpeg

Those skidders can still do a good day's work. The 6V53 motors are screamers, and not fuel savers! Many have been re-engined with Cummins B-series for that reason.

There is a market for the old ones if rebuilt and modified as fire tankers. They can go anywhere with 500 gallons of water to attack a forest fire while it is just starting out. Many cable yarding operations keep one nearby for just that reason.

Many of the engine/drivetrain/undercarriage parts are interchangeable with the FMC armored personnel carriers.

Not from lack of trying, nor disinterest, I have not found that post. Acknowledging my unfamiliarity using the new platform’s search feature, I suspect it doesn’t access all posts yet. I’m sure you must have posted more than twice on the 2017 GS Thread, but even removing everything but your username, it only returned two hits to me. Nothing in 2018… I’ll give it a break and try again.

I'll see if I can find it when I get home after work. I have stuff scattered at the moment but I know its the same wrench. I also thought of the Diamond K Krauteur wrenches!

Testing the new version with a couple recent finds from tag sailing:
*$2 Fleet socket set. There was no ratchet, so I added the proto
*$5 little Kennedy toolbox
*caulking irons
*$1 Stanley chisel
*$1 no name, maybe homemade chisel

And the girlfriend found a wheelbarrow on the side of the road that just needed the flat tire fixed. I thought it would need a new tube, but it had just deflated so much the valve disappeared into the wheel.

" those calking, or corking irons are for the seams of wooden boats. " Yep. But since my teenage dreams of building wooden boats are pretty much reduced to watching youtube videos at this point, they are probably going to be sold at some point.

Guys,

I noted upthread here that I disliked the new photo attachments because the filename was too large, obscuring the bottom part of the pic, and because they appear in the thumbnail as fuzzy and zoomed in, so you have to click to see the entire object.

To be fair I just accidentally discovered a feature I really like.

Once you click on an attached photo, you can see photos attached in prior posts without leaving the post you're in. Essentially, you are entering an underlying attached photo layer that is not governed by the boundaries of a post. Let's say there's a post with 3 photos attached. Once you click on the first photo you can use the arrows to move to the second and third within the post - but you can also just keep clicking back right through to the photos in the previous post, and the photos in the post before that, and so on and so on, infinitely. You are essentially navigating the thread at an attached photo level.

That could be extremely useful in comparing photos. You can toggle back and forth, examining just the photos, without having to scroll, click on a different post, click on a different photo, and without all the post text in between. Or let's say you're not exactly the thorough reader type (calling all Skimmers!), you just want to scroll through all the latest photos of Plomb tools, or you want to quickly catch up on all the latest Garage Sale thread finds without all the gory details or text in the way. Just click on the last attached photos and use the arrows to click back through the photos until you get to the last haul you remember seeing.
