Wow. Who'd've thunk after all this time one little question changes my entire impression of you guys! You're cart and hand truck people. (Under my breath... Grumble grumble, get out of my way slow poke, can you move your freaking cart so I can get to the table? etc. etc)

Shoulder bag guy here. If it fills up too much, I go unload it. If I buy a box, I carry it to the truck and start where I left off. I like to have both hands free and all my finds attached to my body. :)

I would have thought, it being GJ, that they would have those little rascal powered scooters? With custom trailers?

Didn't Harley Jim just make one? from a shopping buggy? posted over on the show us your welding thread?

I feel you Lugz most certainly... I thought this way for a long time. I try to be respectful with my hand dolly placement and not park it in front of a vendors booth but usually about 10 feet away so it doesn't block traffic flow. I am a digger just like you so I want to look under tables and dig through tool boxes. I do feel a bit irritated when someone parks their wagon or other tripping device right in front of a booth so I am midful of others with my own. I used to carry most of my finds with my backpack but got tired of constantly taking it off each time I made a find. Now i have relegated my backpack to carrying personal items like latex gloves, my lunch, water, plastic bag that I can put various printed publications inside that I don't want down in the mix with rusty greasy tools.

Small venues I use a bag or day pack - only on the big ones, where you can be a mile or more from the vehicle, do I bring the folding/collapsing cart, and then if I don't need it its not an empty bin blocking people,

What a couple of people here know, but most don't, is that I have MS. I walk with a cane much of the time, but a big swap meet is pushing it for me anyhow, and I want to be able to enjoy them as long as I can before I do get the rascal scooter. I only started doing the hand truck and bucket a little while ago, as it was getting to be too much of a struggle and really taxing me doing the backpack or canvas bag.

The hand truck covers a lot of ground for me, but I do need to modify my setup to add the cane, as walking from the truck to the seller's goods is still hard on me.

But, to each his own.

Sorry to hear that BMW! I hope you fight it off for a long time!

I do feel for you for doing this hobby in pain. I have three issues that can impact me: Sciatica, and a problem in my hip and a back that goes into spasms that can flair up at any time. I hate canes, but I do have a hickory walking stick I use. I like tugging down on the stick rather than the wobbly support a cane provides. I also use it to pull myself up like climbing a rope when I squat to look close at ground piles.

The stick is my constant companion on long walks or any Flea market, as especially the back spasms can hit at any time; an odd jostle off a curb can set it off.... I also use it for hunting where it can double as a rest for the handgun (I haven't carried a rifle for big game for about 40 years)

I can see myself in one of those rascal scooters one day. I would put a trailer on the back! Lol. Then when we have that Big GJ Garage Sale Thread F2F Confab we always talk about we can have drag races.

I was never a big game hunter, but I do miss upland hunting in the CA river bottoms and foothills.

On the other hand, I inherited the coolest deer rifle from my father, a genuine British highland stalking rifle, made by these guys in London. It's a single-shot Martini action in .303 with light engraving, express sights, and, best of all, he found it at a garage sale.

Here is a similar one, by a different maker.

This is BS and a complete waste of effort. The time spent opening countless crumpled POS offshore boxes like this on the hair-thin possibility that there might be something in there besides rat turds could be much better spent driving to the next TOO yard sale full of baby clothes. The rest of you can waste your time if you want, but I heartily recommend the GJ members in the greater San Antonio area to keep moving without giving these things a second glance.
i will make sure to stay off your turf. You will be surprised how many goodies I have found where folks fail to open boxes or drawers overlooking and being in a hurry.. Win Win for me as I take my sweet time scavenging..

Here is the rest of the small haul from today. 4 Proto Challenger DOE wrenches, a Plvmb wrench, Bonaloy DBE, SK screwdriver, Wright ratchet, Utica pliers, and a really cool tin box with a surprise in it. If anyone needs the wrenches let me know. I don’t collect those, just wanted to rescue them.

Seeing as how I'm an estate sale guy, its my standard custom to either make a pile out in the yard or scavenge a container from the environment as I go. Usually, the pile is safe from scavenger pickers, but in one occasion I had to drive back to a sale to get an item I left in the grass! Some guys show up with tote bags, like Lugz, but the unknown terrain of garages/attics/basements/sheds make a cart/handtruck impractical.

Hate is a strong term. It was just a small shock to the system. Like finding out all your friends secretly listen to Bread.

:lol_hitti

EDIT: I know you guys know I'm just "busting chops," but if it's any consolation, my penance is having "Guitar Man" stuck in my head! Honestly, I like that song.

I worry sometimes that people don't recognize my attempts at humor. Subtle sarcasm is often difficult to discern if the parties don't know each other well--even for me and even more so when in written form. That's why I tend to shy away from the subtle and embrace the outrageous--in hopes that no one will confuse my sophomoric humor for my true feelings. Maybe I should just stick to showing pictures of tools...

Regional differences, too, I think, sometimes. Playful criticism (such as my secret soft rock fan analogy... ) is relentlessly second nature among east coast friends and family. We don't give each other an inch. It's when people are too nice and serious you need to worry. Elsewhere I have not found this to be as pervasive.

I would have to say it's rampant in the northeast, wouldn't want it any other way.

My worst ailment is lack of self control. I thought it would get better over time with experience but it seems to disappear once I step foot into a garage.

Agreed, I don't bring the hand cart to Estate sales...to cramped to operate. I usually bring the bucket most of the time!

On Saturday I went to two professional run estate sales and probably 3 garage sales and the only thing I had to show for it was an 8 piece Armstrong SAE combination wrench set. Another cryptic ad for a Sunday sale came up and it looked strikingly similar to a sale I had gone too like 2 to 3 weeks ago on a Sunday. The ad didn't even have the address ! but I knew enough to write it down from last time because the gentleman running the sale had indicated that he was going to have more sales. So took a flyer and went to the address and lo and behold it was the same house. I was the only one there except a garage sale acquaintance that I see and talk to all the time who also must have had a hunch about the ad. Anyways ended up round two of a guy cleaning out his dad's tools from when his dad was a auto body repair guy. Was able to take my time and pick up a bunch of stuff I had overlooked last time. The weekend cost me $70.

Vulcan and Snap-On sockets and bunch of Hornet metric sockets. Crescent 3/8 ratchet and Vulcan & Snap-On extensions.

Blue Point Micro-Grip mini pliers, Vulcan screwdrivers and Torx drivers and modified scraper. Snap-On screwdrivers.

Blue Point metric tap & die set. Armstrong wrenches

And found lurking on the back wall of the garage a Morgan Manufacturing "Nokker" Kit #9 slide hammer/pulling kit which was too cool to pass up though I have absolutely no use for so it will become wall art for the garage.

I have a Morgan "Nokker" while not nearly every day it does come handy here and there.
Overall you're close to a vacuum.

Nice one. Those are tough to find. In all my years collecting, I found four in the wild. Two 3/8 and two 1/2. Saw one more in captivity, lol. Every now and then they show up on ebay. Definitely one of more unique offerings from Williams.

Due to Covid19 and moving to Kansas City Missouri, I hadn't done any deals till the last 2 weeks. I got both of these Craftsman tool boxes. I gave $340 for the pair. I will post the other goodies once we are moved in our house.

Saturday was too hot to go back to the swap meet, so I accompanied my wife and daughter when they returned to an estate sale where my wife had bought some nice wicker furniture for a bargain price. She was thinking that some smaller wicker items that she had left behind would be worth getting at the 75% off prices scheduled for that day. In addition to the discount on large items, the sale was offering all you could get into a large paper shopping bag for $5.00!

We ended up with three bags and four wicker items. Only one bag was mine, and my daughter stuffed some items in it when her bag was full.

I'm only showing my stuff. The first photo is most of the bag contents:

Estate 1.jpg
Schumacher 75-12-2 amp 12V battery charger SE-1275A
Brownline cargo strap. This is airline cargo quality.
Sears air regulator and filter (with my style fittings!)
Zep Industrial Purple Cleaner & Degreaser (nearly full)
Boston pencil sharpener
Imperial camp knife. This is the same pattern the Navy bought, and was made between November, 1944 and December, 1945
CTA pickle fork
Unknown gas cap
Oil filter wrench
two each Rigid 14" heavy duty pipe wrenches
brass brush
unmarked **** plate
Door strikers
"Unbreakable" "Malleable Iron" 2" c-clamp
Proto Professional 9/16 combo
Powerbilt DBE 1/4 x 3/8
Gedore DBE 7/16 x 1/2
9 steel pipe adapters 3/8 straight pipe male to 3/8 NPT female
Unopened can of hand cleaner
Unused can of polishing compound
Cheap folding shovel (it works!)

Photo #2 is the rest of the bag contents:

Griswold and Dustpan.jpg
8" Griswold Iron Fry Pan
cheap plastic dust pan

Photo #3 is the markings on the Griswold pan

Griswold Bottom.jpg
They wouldn't fit in the bags, so I negotiated a price on the stainless steel pans in Photo #4. I got two shallow pans, one deep pan, one perforated shallow pan, and one cover, all for $5.00. The pans are for a buffet, and would sit in an opening that was 12" x 20" and have an overall measurement of 12-3/4 x 20-3/4 inches. I'll be using them for parts cleaning. I'll put the perforated pan in the deep pan and save the fluid for re-use. I'll probably keep the lid for covering it when not in use.
